Oh my. [Big sigh]. What a glorious story! Catrin, the girl who sits at the bastards’ table who is servant to the queen. Marcus, sincere, honorable, strong man of King Arthur who wants to make a difference. Dyfed, Merlin’s homeland, crumbling for want of a leader. TOUCHED BY MAEN LLIA is a grand tale worthy of the magnificent storyteller, Tracy Cooper-Posey! I reviewed an Advance Reader copy of this book.
Touched by Man Llia is a novella set in The Once and Future Hearts series.
Plot
Catrin serves as a handmaiden to the elderly Queen of Dyfed, whose monarch, Geraint, has passed away without leaving an heir, making the country vulnerable to invasion. Prince Merlin, the wizard and counselor to King Arthur, was born in Dyfed, and he frequently visits the turbulent country to decide who should rule.
Marcus Jorath is a newbie to Camelot and is only interested in serving King Arthur, whose reign of peace has significantly improved the quality of life and future prospects for his family. However, he is given the task of accompanying Merlin to the remote realm of Dyfed.
The maids of the realm go to the Maen Llia to make wishes when the Dyfed mage Ianto announces it to be midsummer's day. Catrin denies that it is the solstice since she can read and is knowledgeable about how to monitor seasons and more, but no one pays attention to her, so she is compelled to accompany the other ladies to Maen Llia.
Marcus is captivated to the fiery redheaded Catrin and her forthright, straightforward style of speaking and thinking about the world when Merlin's band of armed men stumble across the women. They are drawn to Ianto, who is more than just the kingdom's ineffective mage and who has goals of his own that he will not allow a meek little girl to stymie.
The plot is interesting and the pacing of the book was good, but I actually wish this book could have been longer than it was. I think the main conflict was resolved way to easily.
Characters
The main characters are Catrin and Marcus and I really like them here. Again, I wish this book could have been longer, because the main characters have many potencial. This interpretation of Merlin is one of my favorite and it was good to see Bedivere again.
Writing
Again, the writing really captures my attention and kept me engaging the whole time.
World-Building
It was interesting to be back at the kingdom where Merlin was born and it was interesting to see what was happening with it.
Romance
Marcus and Catrin were cute together, but because the novella is a really short novel, they relationship moved way to fast for my personal liking. That's way I would love a bigger novel, where the author could have developed the romance and the characters even more.
Final Thoughts
Despite all of this, it was a interesting novella.
Touched By Maen Llia is a small tale set in the Once and Future Hearts series and it gives us a glimpse into one small kingdom that pays allegiance to King Arthur and his court. Catrin is a handmaiden to the Queen of Dyfed but being a bastard she is disregarded by all. But she has learned how to read and her life in the court enabled her to gain knowledge and experience much beyond her rank. Marcus is a knight in service of King Arthur but his mixed origins, Roman and Briton make him a misfit in the court. He is chosen to take part in Merlin’s guard when he is tasked with choosing the heir to the Queen of Dyfed. Catrin and Marcus seem to find that their roles and anxieties are similar and together they can untangle a dangerous situation and hopefully save the kingdom. A short story but full of adventures and excitement. Not to be missed by the fans of the series. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
What a great short story; it's not only a love story, but a story of a women's courage and strength during a time when women, unless you were one of very high standing, were taught to clean, cook, and follow orders. It's also a story of a man who looked beyond that to see a woman like none he's known before. All this was not a surprise to the one called Merlin for he knew things that would shock and surprise them. If your one of those that think a book has to be long to tell a good story, no, an amazing story, well you're wrong. Again, the author, with such extraordinary details, has brought this story to the level of "did this really happen, or not". Be sure to read the series as each and every book is sure to surprise you.
Tracy Cooper-Posey’s Touched by Maen Llia, Book 8.1 is the latest addition in the Once and Future Hearts series. This is the story of Marcus Jorath and Catrin. Marcus is traveling with Merlin to the kingdom of Dyfed in order to settle the succession question. Along the way, Marcus meets Catrin and their apparent futures take a turn to the awesome. This is a great story filled love, politics and intrigue; and Tracy Cooper stays true to both the history and mythology of the time. If you enjoy Arthurian tales, this story is for you.
This truly is a magical and wonderful storyline! It’s well detailed and the characters are interesting. Especially the main characters, Marcus a soldier to King Arthur. Catrin is a servant to the widowed Queen. Catrin meets Marcus and they are attracted to each other, the love scenes are G rated. The plot drew me in to this truly magical book! Tracey Cooper Posey is an incredibly talented author, she writes many addictive genres. I enjoyed this book and especially the ending.
I absolute love this series! Every single book of this "Once and Future Hearts" is gorgeous. And even if this book is very short, there was nothing I imissed. The female lead Catrin seems weak first, but like all the women in Tracy Cooper-Posey´s books I read so far is courageous and smart. I don´t want to spoiler, but Merlin is very Merlin in the end....I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Another fabulous read in the Once and Future Hearts series, the 8.1 book is "Touchex by Maen Llia." It was a short read but was sweet and had a little intrigue. It shows the next ruler of an important land. Along with a couple falling in love for being themselves. How this wish to be truthful and frank versus how it is in court. A great read. I highly recommend this book.
I was given an advanced reader copy this book for my honest review.
Great continuation of the series that tells the story of King Arthur through lesser or bot know members of his court. This book stars Catrin, the handmaiden of the queen of one of the smaller kingdoms and Marcus, the knight sent to the kingdoms she served in. I love the weaving together of a romance and another look at the story of King Arthur.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great drama and romance with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
