It was supposed to be over: The Utah Facility discovered, New World Genetics dismantled, and the people hunting Luca, dead.

Finally, Nox and Luca could start their life together.

Then strangers, who call themselves Varu, come to Luca for help.

They call him Cana and claim he’s the only one who can bring back their wolves.

The Varu tell Luca and Nox how a people called Mah are responsible for the atrocities of the Utah facility, unearthing the ichor and infecting Nox with the Anubis.

How the creature will consume Nox’s mind.

How he will become the monster.

Then it will destroy Luca.

But they can stop that from happening if Nox is willing to risk death by letting them purge him of the ichor.

As far as Nox is concerned, it’s a small price to pay to keep Luca safe.

Luca can’t convince Nox that the Anubis isn’t the mindless entity the Varu claim it to be, that it’s not a danger to him or anyone else.

When Nox won’t listen to reason, Luca decides to use the Anubis to help him save the man he loves.

After all, Luca is Nox’s Alpha.

And the Anubis is really Luca’s wolf to call.

*MM Dark Paranormal romance, high heat, heart-pounding action, twists and turns, colorful world-building, devoted couple, size difference, protective alpha male, epic monster battles, love at all costs, self-sacrifice, never give up, genetic manipulation, and unstoppable determination.*

Georgia born and bred, I am an artist, a writer, and a general pain in the ass.
I spend most of my days working on my next book or bettering my art.
Writing is my identity and I love every minute of it. It's work, lots of work (sometimes I work 12+ hours a day and I never get a vacation) but I don't regret doing it.
I currently share my house with a myriad of dogs, a few cats, a saltwater aquarium filled with coral and fish, as well as my partner who's great at giving hugs when the day's been rough.
And of course, my editor and PA, who helps me keep life reasonably organized. At least so I won't walk out the door without wearing pants.

I'd like to say that I understood most of what happened in this book, but I'd be lying. There was so much dialogue, discussions on top of discussions, and scientific info dumps that I had to take long breaks from reading this book just to clear my mind. I almost DNFed it a few times.

The overloading of information chokes this story until your eyes glaze over. Which is such a shame, because I loved the first book. This second book goes HARD CORE with the info-dump dialogues it was mind numbing.
Urja brought out the darkness, empowering the wolves and sending hosts into a second stage of metamorphosis that enabled the beta tied to the Urja to draw strength from the Suvar and feed it to those who were bonded to him.
I felt like I was back in college. Will there be a quiz on all this?

This book was one group against another group but then there's a third group and you'll get ALL the heavily detailed information on all groups. I just wanted to read more about Nox, Luca and the Anubis, instead a got a dictionary of terminology.

I commend the author on this attempt, but it was too much jammed into one book. I have loved every book I have read from this author, so this was a big disappointment.

I highly doubt I'll be reading the next book in this series.

I wish I'd liked this sequel better. I was expecting a lot more from Nox and Luca, but it seems that 70% of the book was aimed at Dr Dante. Nothing against Dr Dante, but it got boring. 700 pages and all along it was Dr Dante whining, it was Jonathan whining about wanting Dante.. 😔

Two characters that I had no connection at all took much of this sequence, I'm frustrated.

Apart from dr Dante's annoying lamentations, the book had an interesting plot, but it couldn't take my breath away like in the first book. Lucas and Nox were much more striking in the first book.

We'll see what we get in the third book, I can't stand this Doctor Dante's further lamentations.

an absolute MASTERPIECE……holy fuck…..

mood throughout the book: 😩🤩🧐😍🤯🥺🫣🥵😱

me reading dante’s pov’s: 🤓🧬👩‍💻🧪👩‍🎓

me after reading dante’s pov and talking it out with my buddy reader and realizing i barely understood shit: 🥸

lmfaoooo my brain was running on FUMES that first part of the book bc there’s so many new concepts😭 the science explanations in the first part of the book were not as easily understandable as book one….i had to read over them multiple times and even read them out loud to myself to get that shit to sink in. i mean i even read the glossary 5 times before reading and i was still like…um i don’t get anythinggg😭 it’s like you need to read the glossary before reading, but also, reading the glossary without any context is fucking confusing. so yes, that first 20% or so is a fucking struggle. and you and that damn glossary will be best friends💀

this is a sequel that really needs to be read right after reading the first book so the all the concepts are fresh. if i read book one and had to wait a few years for book two to be released, i would’ve been soooo fucked💀😭

i also would’ve been LOST if i didn’t read it with my fave buddy reader🫶🫶 soo thankful we read it together bc we were able to talk these concepts out and help each other understand💗💗

a lot of the confusion for me, aside from the science explanations, came from the black wolflike anubis creatures. in the first book, they’re just called anubis. in this book, turns out there’s 3 different types of black wolflike creatures: sarvari, cur, and anubis, and they’re easily mixed up bc they look alike. so anubis goes from being this overview word, to only describing the black wolflike creature made from pure ichor. so that was a confusing change at first.

but, my god, once it all started to click??? it was BEYOND good. i mean, fuck, the plot was already plotting when i could barely keep up, but once i was in the zone??? MUAH💋, it became spectacular!!!! i was gasping and OHHHH-ing and just unable to stop thinking and spamming HOLY FUCK and OMGGGG in the br chat🤣🤣🤣 this was incredibly action packed and engaging. 6 povs may sound off-putting, but it’s actually the key to making these characters feel so complex and the world feel so well-rounded and complete. i was constantly guessing who the “bad guys” were….there’s no one-note, pure evil to their core mfs around doing evil shit just bc….the ones i ended up HATING with a passion, i could also understand them and their motivations. still fuck them tho😤🤣

in this book, luca and nox are still very much main characters, but the story also needs dante and jonathan and phillips to be main characters too. i wasn’t too sure about how i’d like that before reading, but i wouldn’t change a damn thing. in fact, i wanted MORE of dante and jonathan😩😩 and phillips was such a kickass baddie!!! i’m simultaneously in love and scared of her🤣🤣 i enjoyed EVERY SINGLE pov tho, like how tf is that even possible🤣🤣 THAT’S how fucking MAGNIFICENT the writing is. it absolutely blew my mind, bc HOW is this not more popular, and WHERE is the tv adaptation!?!😩😩😩

the massive (and wonderful) amount of plot didn’t take away from the romance either. luca and nox had two absolutely fabulous standout moments. one was so sweet, soft, and tender; the other being sexy, primal, and exciting. and my sweet bb nox grew soo much this book, i’m sooo proud of him!!!!🥺

but uh speaking of exciting, that fucking CLIMAX!!!!!!! it was heart racingly fast paced, can’t sit still, wtf is going on, holy fuck, holy FUCK, HOLY FUCK, HOLYYYYYY FUUUUUCKKKK, omg!!!!, OMG????, OMGGGG!?!?!?!!!!!! type shit🤣🤣🤣 it was just incredible stuff, super gripping and explosive….like even gun to my head, i wouldn’t have been able to put the book down🤣🤣

i almost teared up finishing it bc i didn’t want it to be over😭 i’m actually wearing all black today bc i’m in mourning that the next book isn’t out yet💀

this isn’t my usual type of book either. i gravitate towards sexy sluts over plot most of the time🤣 what can i say, i’m just a girl🥺💀 but fuck, i GOBBLED up ALL of this damn plot like thanksgiving dinner….in fact, i need seconds and thirds and fourths, i don’t care if i’m stuffed, ADRIENNE WILDER I NEED BOOK 3🗣🗣🗣🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️🧎‍♀️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😩😩😩😩😩😩🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️🙇‍♀️

also, megan, my buddy reader extraordinaire💗💗💗 i had an absolute BLAST reading this with you!!!! thank fuck i didn’t attempt this alone💀 the experience wouldn’t have been anywhere near as good🤣🫶 so grateful you stumbled across this gem of a series!!!!🙏🤗

also idk why gr says this book is 700 something pages, it’s only 500 something!!

🎵Narrated by Kirt Graves🎵 💗💗

Note: The audiobook doesn’t have the glossary that is at the beginning of the written book. You NEED that glossary to understand this book. I lived in it for a lot of the book and would have been absolutely lost without it. Going to Amazon and using the “look inside” feature will show you the glossary if you don’t have KU or are having trouble finding it on the author’s website. 😘

I was intimidated to start this book because the reviews said it was way more technical than book one and while that is true and I lived in the glossary for awhile and had to keep looking shit up, I fucking loved it. That said, reading this with someone else is a must imo. My favorite person to buddy read with joined me and without her I feel like I would have missed a lot of important things plus having someone to bounce ideas off of was so helpful and helped me learn all the vocabulary faster. 🫶🏻 Mug’s review is also a fucking masterpiece and better than anything I’m going to be able to cobble together so I’m going to link it. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Once I understood wtf I was reading I devoured this book. It was such a wild ride and even more in depth than book one. There were times I could not sit still listening to this, having to pace around because I was so fucking anxious. I had every emotion while reading this and it made me even more invested in this world. The author’s note said this series will most likely be 3-4 books with more spinoffs if it does well and I cannot wait. For those worried about starting an unfinished series, both books have ended with a HFN and not crazy cliffhangers. There are more things I’m dying to know but I am also satisfied with how things were left.

I highly, highly recommend this series. I usually don’t like recommending books to others because I have no idea if they’ll even enjoy them but almost everyone on my discord server is reading this series right now, even people who were unsure if it was their thing and they all love it. I knew I had stumbled upon something special when I found this but to have all my friends be as excited about it and love it too has been amazing. This is the best series I’ve read so far this year 🫶🏻

Obsessed!! I love how much science and genetics is involved in this story, and I love even more that it makes total sense to me 😂 I actually have a kid with a really rare genetic microduplication on chromosome one, and I was studying to become a genetic counsellor, so the whole explanation about how the genetics can change and vary made perfect sense to me. I'd totally have loved Dr Dante to have been my teacher because he explains it really well 😂 I'm so keen to see where this series goes and what else we're going to find out about all of these species and what they can do, not to mention who the actual big bad is!

I'm still loving Luca and Nox but there were a lot of times I wanted to shout at Nox to stop being such a bloody martyr and accept who he is! Luca gaining confidence and coming out of his shell more was also really fun to see.

Reese and Jonathan annoyed the ever loving shit out of me, but I want to see them together so badly! Jonathan is so stubborn that I wanted to gag him so he'd stop trying to justify why he shouldn't do what his very nature is telling him to do, and Reese asks SO many questons that I wished serious laryngitis on him at multiple points 😂😂 I was just shouting at them to shut the fuck up and give in to each other already!

I detest Isaiah. I thought he was super sketchy as soon as he came into the story and I just don't like him. He reminds me of how 'Christians' behave - there is only one path, one answer, and anyone who doesn't believe the same is beneath them or a sin / abomination.... I hated how he was so sure in his belief that he just flat out refused to even entertain that anything he thinks to be true may actually be wrong. Would not be sad if something bad happened to Isaiah!!

The action in the last part of the book was non-stop and so fast paced that I felt like I couldn't breathe or something might go wrong. Definitely excited for the next book but what a cliffhanger to leave things on! I need to know more ASAP.

So this is a suuuuper long book and it was rather slow going for the first half of it, but definitely picked up after that. Lots of new mythology and terminology, a lot of which I'm still not sure I followed. And another cliffie! Holy hell, I hope the wait for the next book is less than the wait for this one.

Seung laughed a little. “That’s your first mistake, Mr. Kelli. You seem to think the Anubis is yours to control. But it’s not.” “It lives in me.” Nox frowned. “Who else is supposed to control it?” “Your Cana.” She nodded at Luca. “The Anubis is his to call. Just like you are.”

BITCH THIS WAS SO GOOD BUT MY BRAIN HURTS!!!!! Shoutout to Megan for being my human glossary and helping me understand things because I was soo confused at times! But once it started clicking I was ALL IN.

This was just so good, the world building, the lore, the wild hunt of it all. I was gagged and gooped the whole time. Still unsure how I feel about certain characters and I’m interested to see how the dynamics play out with Jonathan and Doctor Dante! (The touch him and die was sooooooooo fucking good in this) also shoutout to him having my name and it being spelled the same :)

Phillips is a badass bitch! Seung was as well!

Uhhhhhhhhhhh I’m forgetting alot because it was a lot so I don’t know make sure you read the glossary and have a buddy reader with you?

My brain still is processing I need more. Go science!

Honestly...
Finishing this book was a chore.
Too long, too much information, too many characters and plot points that felt disjointed.
I was expecting so much more than this.
I loved Nox but this one was a huge disappointment.

2.5 rounding up because I wouldn't have finished if it weren't for the audio by Kirt Graves.

I loved this second book much more than the first one, once I finally *finally* understood the ichor. This is not an easy to understand book...by any means. If I hadn't had access to the ebook while listening to the audio I would have thrown in the towel. The ebook has a glossary that you kind of have to live in. Luckily for me I also had Megan and Jonathan to hold my hand (thanks guys) through all my wtaf moments lol.

I have so many theories about where this story is going and I'm pretty sure I'll die before the author puts out book three. I'd much rather he take his time and put out a quality product but waiting is going to be hard 😭

I am giving this 4 stars, because I did enjoy it and I do want to keep reading the series. Butttt.... it is a definite downgrade from NoX. I think fans of NoX will still be happy to read this book, as Luca and Nox's relationship continues. But the narrative structure changes a great deal. Nox is a book you would re-read. This most definitely is not.

After reading NoX, I checked out the author's series "The Others Project," which is also m/m scifi. While there was a great story at the core of that series, the overriding thought while reading it was that the writer was badly in need of an editor to keep her on task and trim the fat. NoX seemed like the work of an author who had matured and and learned to focus. Unfortunately, Anubis is a big step back to the problems that plagued her Others series.

The book starts with a dictionary of terms which explain the hierarchy of the various wolf forms. And a dictionary is unfortunately how the book often read. It's like the author spent her time building up a world in her mind, and wanted to explain it to us. Over and over and over. Each time, the explanation got more convoluted, as the author expanded on her theories of genetics or alternate dimensions etc. But in doing this, she lost all focus on the characters. In some ways, a lot happened in this book, as there were so many plotlines going. But in other ways, I could probably edit this book down to 20 pages, and that would contain everything that really happened to alllll the characters. For example, we learn that the doctor is special and the wolves will want to do something with him (I am being vague for spoilers). We are told this early on. Then it is repeated to another character. And another. And another. Hinted at to the doctor. Told to someone else. Hinted again. Finally revealed to the doctor. Avoided. Discussed a little. Avoided again. And ultimately, the book ends with it still having not gone anywhere. Sure, it's something for the next book. But we had it described to us literally a dozen times, spanning multiple pages each time. And it wasn't even a feature of this book!

And the terms - dear lord, the unnecessarily convoluted terms! These people have wolves called one thing, those people have wolves called another. Fine. But the other wolves have a slang term for them, oh and another slang term as well. And this is just the basic stuff. Now let's discuss color and personality. Like, come. on. I read some hard scifi, with plenty of deep world building. If the terms don't naturally explain themselves on the page, during the action, you should not ask your readers to come prepared with a study guide.

There is also the issue of dozens of subplots that just are not needed. For instance, at one point, Nox helps a motel owner repair the motel in exchange for housing. Some crooks want to drive the motel owner out, so Nox is there to save the day. Except he's really not, because after one altercation, he leaves. Why did we waste a chapter on some random small town crooks, when it was just dropped??? Maybe the motel owner will reappear in a later book. I don't know why, she is not needed. But now we have a dangling storyline where it wasn't needed at.all.

Ultimately, this book needed an editor. A professional, hardline editor, who was willing to redline 80% of it, and put the author back on focus with the characters. Nox and Luca, Reese and Jonathan, Phillips, Isaiah - there was genuinely room for all of them. But the author took so little time to just develop the stories between them. I would love to see the next book clean up its act and refocus on character driven stories, instead of history lessons. Because - and here is the 4 star part of the review - I like the story. I like the characters. I am rooting for them - all of them, even though some are on opposing sides. Obviously the main couple, Luca and Nox, is a great pairing, but I am excited to see where Reese and Jonathan go (...because they went nowhere in this book). I want to see Isaiah realize his mistake, I want to find out what the real root of the Anubis is, I want to see the wolves thrive without destroying humanity, I want to see Phillips be responsible for that. There is so very much compelling material in this story. I just want to actually see it in the next book, instead of sitting through another "filler" book of background noise.

The rage, the violence fell into a lull, and Luca wrapped it in all the love he felt for Nox. Not just the man but the darkness. The Anubis.

Adrienne Wilder took everything I liked about NoX (the characters, plot, worldbuilding) and made it even better

I was initially sceptical about the world building but a few glances at the glossary (who doesn’t love a good glossary??) and I was able to kick back and enjoy the book.

There is so much I can’t wait to find out and I’m not usually a release-day girlie but I’m gonna have to make an exception when book 3 comes out because🤩🤩🤩

HIGHLIGHTS
- World building. We don’t just get an expansion of the lore introduced in book 1, we don’t just get to learn more about the Anubis – we get to see the characters’ perception about the Anubis change and I was living for. every. moment.
- Expanded cast. All I will say is that there was never a dull moment😉 (you know what you need to do, Reese😏)
- Writing. Believe me when I say the writing in book 1 was fantastic (enough for me to overlook some typos) so the fact that Adrienne Wilder pulled out even more stops in book 2 was EVERYTHING (we still need to work on those typos though).

S/O to Megan for being a listening ear and simplifying the concepts!

ok the thing with Isaiah was unpleasant business but it got significantly better and then ended on a cliff💀.

i know i said an index would be helpful but the avalanche of new terms in this just about gave me a headache.

*spoiler*
also personal opinion time: i was strongly against Anubis-less Nox.

totally for the reese-johnathan ship but can we have more Nox and Luca please😭.

I'm sitting here in absolute AGONY over finishing this book. I loved it just as much, if not even more than the first, and it's left me craving more. More of these characters, of this world and everything that goes with it.

Luca and Nox had me PANICKING hard for a while, and I swear to gods if people don't start appreciating my savage Anubis baby, I'm gonna freak out.

But honestly, while I loved being with them again, I crave more of Reece and Jonathan. PLEASE. Just a little twisted, the slow burn is excruciating and amazing, and I can't WAIT for them to lose it to each other.

I can't get over how completely different these books are from ANY other shifter books I've read. They're so unique and I just need more...

Liked 1st one not this

So we go from the happy for now first book Nox to this allover the place second . I know that it went from me rooting for Nox and Luc to not caring. My problem with book 2 was she tried to cram all the names meanings and history from about three different factions into one book .It was over load and honest nothing stuck .yes we got definitions but at what point in this history lesson did I have time to break out the old paper and pencil? This really felt like a class that was cramming a whole year into one day...it took away from the story not added to it . my eyes crossed from all the names off shoots and meanings . we touched lightly on to trans in to way to explain egg bearers that I found ironic , not irritating but kind funny as if It is keeping with current events calling mother childbearing people ...such I am not ,I am a mother . But it did not travel down to the pc correct enough for me to get frustrated. Don't like politics in my books ,I read to get away from it .
There was action but the different is it seemed constant teaching about all the names for ppl and explaining took me out of what I felt the story was about .The names and the past ,definitions of things dominated the story . Who's right who wrong .Then we also go down the rabbits hole of it doesn't matter who you really like but who is in your presence at the time.even if you hate them because we are going with his body in heat stuff ,you a man I hate you but my body says sex it up and don't care ......that line is getting so so old
I could go on and on but I won't .so if you like it to be bogged down and cramming many lifetime education in one book and going into heat ,setting up for other couples and pretty much having every point of view wrote this is for you .As for me took 3 days to read, unheard of for me ,ima a at least one book a day, but took three days to read and in My world that's bad .Only mildly interested in book three and all these men who think they have the absolute right by choose or by force to get the man they want but I'm afraid we are going to go to the library and be told you have one day to absorb everything .😈

This second book was just as intense if not more so than the first one. I’m not gonna lie 😂 I did get lost quite a few times with the technical terms of the Anubis and all the wolf types but finally I just decided to enjoy the book and not to worry about being quizzed on it. I listened to it on audio and it was phenomenal 👏🏻🤗

I struggled more with this one because there was a lot of confusing exposition repeated multiple times. Was also worried about a certain horrible something happening to Reese's pieces (see what I did there?) But nah we're good. If you can get through the exposition, and not beat yourself up too much when you don't understand the scientific nuance (unless you do then gtfo you smart person). Then it's still a good time.

M/M paranormal romance. Book 2/2 for now (there must be a sequel in the works since this another HFN/cliff hanger).

I agree with the many reviewers that were disappointed. NoX was a MUCH better book.

There are several issues with Anubis:
1) forget all the world building you learned in NoX. It is being rewritten here! And the new world building is DENSE. A lot of new spices/races and their history told from different points of view that contradicts each other’s so it gets confusing. And just about you think you got the handle on all that and the rules that govern those creatures then all that is then suddenly set aside because someone mysteriously is messing with it all and the rules no longer apply! Because on top of all the world building history we also get scientific mambo jumbo to contend with. Ugh! It is a confusing mess.

2) How is it that Luca’s doesn’t have any impact?! Wouldn’t that make him ? This is a gigantic plot hole! And why did Dante omit ?

3) The book is not really about Nox and Luca anymore. There are all these secondary characters that are partially developed.
So there are multiple POVs from all those characters.
Jonathan and Dante in particular are practically shoved down our throats despite the hate and hardly exchanging a dozen words! Oh the melodrama! What is the point of consent/free will when you are driven by primal biological directives???!!!!!! Please spare me the drama! And spare me Dante’s babbling!
I was less peeved at the egg-bearer thing but I agree with other reviewers that it was unnecessary especially considering the objectification of everyone in these races!

4) I was quite disappointed at Nox and Luca’s relationship. Nox definitely doesn’t treat Luca as a partner would or should. It was frustrating. Maybe because the whole thing is still quite insta. As the author reminds us at the end of the book that it has only been sixty days since they met!
While Nox was quite the drama queen, Luca did show maturity and more respect to Nox as he tried to respect Nox’s wishes, improve their communication and to even help Nox with his own lack of communication with him and the wolf.

5) I am not sure why the book is called the Anubis when we learn so little about it and it is all very contradictory. So it is death and destruction yet it is really more like a powerful but yet vulnerable wolf! I am confused! All the action sequences were drawn out and hard to follow and frankly stretched my tolerance for incredulity.
There is plenty of gore and graphic sex but the sex scenes are still stilted and not erotica in my opinion.

6) This ends in a cliffhanger and we still have no clear idea who the puppeteer is! And does it even qualify as an HFN?!

So despite the unique take on the werewolf origin this plot is a hot mess!

This was definitely a lot different than the first, NoX. Not particularly in a good way. I still really enjoyed it and the information we get here, but... Too many POVs! Too many.

I dislike it to begin with when there are more than two. There were way more than that here. I also dislike when they're from the "enemy's" POV. Which who is to truly say who that is from this but... Point stands. I can tell you who I disliked the most, that's for sure. Which was Isaiah. That guy comes up with excuses like flies to trash. Do I know exactly which side, alpha, organization, etc is one to root for? No. Not really. I have guesses but who really knows.

I liked Jonathan's part here, though. Liked how he was twin to Paul and how it's working out with Dr Dante. However, he really isn't thinking about anyone other than himself truly. No matter how often he tells himself it's for Dante's benefit. Especially with this ending! Whoa. When the audiobook was done, I was like wtf...! Really hope the next doesn't take remotely as long as the first to come out especially since I'm waiting for the audiobook again. D:

It definitely seems like the audio version is the way to go. Kirt Graves does a fantastic job once again. He made even the slow parts interesting (and, let me tell you, most of the beginning was a slog of info dumps) and, when it picks up, he's right there with the action. And it really picks up. From reading other reviews, however, it seems like audiobook is also the way to go from merely the scientific aspects of this with all the terminology and hypothesis. I actually found those bits rather interesting. But, sometimes, it would be a bit much, especially if something crazy just happened with Luca and/or Nox and then we go into that. Ugh.

Downside of audio is that I don't have any screenshots. And, wow, there were some super sweet moments here that I really would have loved to quote tf out of. I loved how in-depth we get here with Nox: when he's trying to be rid of the Anubis to be the kind of partner to Luca that he thinks they both want, when we get more information about Nox's past, when they're relaxing. Just... There're so many great scenes throughout here. And super-hot scenes.

One of my favorite parts of this whole book was how Luca realized the Anubis was his wolf. Not Nox's, not even the Anubis' itself, but his. When he baits the Anubis, when they prove themselves. Such a fitting scene.

Seong (again, audio, no idea how her name is spelled and couldn't find it anywhere so going with this - let me know otherwise) has to be one of the most beneficial characters in this entire series. All around. I love how she stands up for herself and everyone else, how she does what needs to be done, and how she tells the others how it is. She's no nonsense and so caring and calming. See what happens with her later. Hope she doesn't disappoint! Cuz I need someone like her in my life. xDD Side note: really liked her brother's part in this too, Caspen. He's someone I want to appear more in the next. (But don't need his POV!)

When Dr Dante asks Luca what kind of person Koda was... My. Heart. It was soo special. So heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I loved it so much. Almost brought me to tears. So well-written, so well narrated. Gah.

I will definitely be checking out of the next in this series and hoping, hoping soo much that there aren't as many POVs in it. Really threw me outta the story multiple times.

I think Phillip will turn out to be an asset. But we'll see...

Loved Nox, but Anubis was often like a long boring history lesson. Sorry 🤷‍♀️

Gripping and intense!

The writing and storyline of both Nox and Anubis has kept me reading practically nonstop over the past couple of days. All of the additional terminology took a while to wrap my head around (I highly recommend using the glossary at the front), but the story had me at the edge of my seat! There is definitely more coming, and I’m anxious to see where it goes!

WOW. Again, a full five stars. This author knows how to build worlds, develop characters, create suspenseful and satisfying plots, and they write the hell out of smut and action scenes. I don't understand why these books haven't gotten more attention.

Without giving any spoilers it's hard to be specific about what this book accomplished. I can say that I started two other books while listening to it, which is pure flattery as I only pick up other books when I'm freaking out and need some kind of decompression for my sanity.

There were points where clung to whatever furniture I was poised on, cried and begged, felt the urge to punch something.. If it wasn't an audiobook I might have thrown it at the wall. Thankfully I had enough sense to avoid paying hundreds for a phone repair and didn't launch my cell at the nearest hard surface, but I wanted to. So badly.

I call that a great book experience. I was so freaked out and agitated from the halfway point that I almost lost my shit. Multiple times.

This book consumed my waking hours while I was listening to it. Not only do the main characters have gripping challenges and threats we're not sure they'll conquer, but other side characters have very interesting developments and challenge the reader to side with them or hate them (or both?).

The only thing I'm upset about is the fact that Dr Dante and Johnathan didn't get down and dirty by the end of this book. I was shipping them so hard. I know it's coming but I wanted A TASTE and I only got a wiff of their sweat and cologne!

These books are definitely in my top ten reads for 2024. I have a feeling that I won't be rereading them for a long time because a big part of my enjoyment came from the impossibility of predicting what happens next, but they are utterly unforgettable and deserve their place on that short list.

Not as good as the first! Which is a shame because I could tell the author put in a lot of effort as far as world building, yet the explanations in the story was all that there was. There wasn't a lot of events that actually happened, and with the narrative pulled away from the two mc's, I just wasn't as invested.

I must admit, I thought that there would be less physics in this book, which was most definitely not the case. And the cast of characters got a LOT bigger, which was occasionally confusing.

The Varu sucked – there’s no other way to describe them. I particularly hated Isaiah as he came across as bigoted, close-minded and manipulative. I was more than a little unhappy with NoX allowing someone like that to get into his head. That being said, the thought of living thousands of years with an integral part of yourself missing would no doubt warp the best of people.

The relationship between Luca, NoX and the Anubis continued to grow and deepen, and I liked the fact that Luca had a relationship with the Anubis that was separate to NoX – his understanding of the creature, of what it wanted/needed, was fascinating to read.

Johnathan and Reese Dante are an interesting duo. I was repelled by Craige (which I imagine was the point) and the introduction of this new couple was intriguing and is hopefully explore further in future novels.

The machinations in the background were interesting and intriguing, although sometimes more than a little confusing. In fact, I think that is my main feeling about this book – there were so many confusing factions that it was becoming muddled in my head. I can’t imagine how Adrienne Wilder manages to keep it all clear in their head and my hat goes off to them.

This was another very long book which, again, I felt would benefit from a ruthless editor to get rid of the spelling mistakes, name and grammar errors – again, sometime things like that pulled me out of the plot. I absolutely adore Phillips and think she is incredibly kick-ass and someone I would most definitely want on my side.

Expanding on the world-building of the first story, and adding more lore as well as future plans make this an intriguing and engrossing addition to the Wolves Incarnate verse and I do look forward to reading the next instalment although I don’t know how long it’s going to be before this is published.

This was another HFN for me, with the addition of more couples and characters to care for. I would recommend reading it but be prepared to keep your brain engaged because you’ll need it!

Anubis

 Wolves Incarnate, Book 2

 by Adrienne Wilder

★★★★★

540 pages

3rd person, multi-character POV

TRIGGERS: on page violence and gore; illegal human experimentation; genetic mutilation; mentions of off-page medical experiments

THEMES: medical experimentation; age difference; size difference; monster romance; forced proximity; slow burn, UST; touch him and die

This was a fantastic follow up to the first book. It really developed the world building and the characters of Book 1, to the point where it's creating a complex, intricate world of shifters, internal conflict and interspecies relationships.

It was great to see not only Luca and Nox back again, but to see more of Reese. His part in the story was very interesting and I can't wait to see how that builds and progresses in the next installment.

This book does include a Glossary and Character chart, but I chose to bookmark it rather than read it. I'm grateful that it was included and that it was at the front of the book, but I didn't want to read spoilers for what followed so I only referred to it when I was confused or struggling to follow the world specific terms.

The story picks up exactly where Book 1 left off (if you ignore the bonus content) which is great. I really feel like that was necessary and so helpful to where the plot went afterwards.

Now, there is a lot going on here and it would takes pages or hours to fully explain. We have the story of Luca being Cana, and of Nox battling his inner Anubis. We also see Reese, Dr Dante's, story expanding. Then we have Phillips (from Book 1), the introduction of Isaiah, and the introduction of Jonathan Dekker - evil Paul Dekker's twin brother! All of these characters have a vital role to play and all get their own POV.

However, unlike Book 1, most have the potential to be unreliable narrators. Because of this, I feel the pov are even more exciting and interesting. We never quite know who to trust or believe.

I really loved the other side characters and I'd love to read short stories about Frost, Seung and Jersey, and Caspin and the priest. They're all so interesting. I'd also love to read a short about Jia and the wolf they chose, because we hear so much about it through Isaiah - who is potentially the most untrustworthy narrator - and I'd love to see what really happened eventually.

Once again, Wilder created a unique and complex world that had me tripped from start to finish. I loved every minute and I now need to go read the rest of their back catalogue, while I eagerly await the next book in this series.

"He wakes up before I get there and rips my face off, I'm gonna be pissed."

Seung waved Craige on. "If he does, I hope he rips off your head, so I won't have to keep listening to you bitch like a prima Donna with a hangnail."
