Michael J. Buckley, SJ (1931–2019) was Bea Professor of Theology at Santa Clara University. Prior to holding this position, he taught philosophical theology at Boston College, the University of Notre Dame, and the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley. His publications include Denying and Disclosing God: The Ambiguous Progress of Modern Atheism and What Do You Seek? The Questions of Jesus as Challenge and Promise.
Prayers include personal, family, liturgical, and special occasions. The prayers are of various ages, and the compiler and editor get some of their own prayers here, too. Not all prayers are Catholic, but most are. The rosary is the 3 sets of mysteries one, the fourth is not included here (the Luminous one).
Well-arranged and with enough variety, this is not a bad collection to own, but I feel it shouldn't be the only one. Still, it was a good experience.
The Catholic Prayer Book - Large Print Edition includes basic liturgical prayers, sacramental prayers and meditations. It's a prayer book not only Catholics, but for all Christians. Use The Catholic Prayer Book to prayerfully invoke a conversation with God.
The book starts out as the Christian invocation with prayers to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The sacramental prayers are next. Prayer in general closes out the book with prayers to the saints, Holy Mother, rosary prayers, family prayers, etc.
The book is great for any occasion. Young and old can benefit from the large font. The book makes it easy for beginners to learn Catholic prayers.
This would be a nice addition to RCIA programs to teach prayer to people wanting to covert to Catholicism. Use the book as a family prayer book. Or read a passage daily to mediate on.
"Silence, for the Christian, is not just the absence of speech but the stillness of soul in which our true self is united with its creator and we contemplate God within us." ~The Catholic Prayer Book
Really well done. An ecumenical tone in that prayers are not always Catholic in orientation, but the major and minor Catholic prayers are there as well. Very helpful to my spiritual life.
I am not a devoted Catholic who regularly goes to mass every Sunday but I am confident to say that my faith is strong with our God the Savior. This prayer book is a steadfast for my faith and the prayers compiled on this book are just wonderful. In our busy life today sometimes we often neglect or forget to pray but with the aid of this book, prayer will not be a obligation but rather a commitment to our God as a way of communication. Thanks to this book I've learned new prayers and just gave me more faith in what I believe in.
