Gabe Kingman has never been great with his emotions. His disastrous personal life is evidence enough of that. Returning to be a doctor in his small Colorado hometown was supposed to bring him closer to his family, not push them even further away. He’s been slowly working to repair the mistakes he’s made, but his efforts aren’t made any easier by the new existence of vampires in his world. Especially one pesky, annoyingly beautiful vampire in particular.

Soren Iversen never meant to stay in Hyde Park this long. He hasn’t kept himself alive for centuries by letting himself be a sitting duck. But instead of moving on months ago, he’s been kicking his heels in the most boring town in the world, hoping for one stubborn, annoyingly compelling human to pay him even a bit of attention.

When circumstances force the two of them together, Soren’s obsession and Gabe’s unwilling attraction are brought to a head. But Soren has been running for a reason, and the skeletons in his closet threaten to tear the couple apart before they can even begin.

SOREN IS A HEATED, FATED-MATES MM PARANORMAL ROMANCE WITH A HEA AND NO CLIFFHANGER. IT CONTAINS A STUBBORN, EMOTIONALLY-REPRESSED ICU DOCTOR, AND A BRATTY, SLIGHTLY UNHINGED VAMPIRE NOT AFRAID TO STALK A MAN TO GET WHAT HE WANTS. IT ALSO CONTAINS STEAMY SCENES BETWEEN TWO MEN, AND THE MODERATE VIOLENCE (AND MENTIONS OF BLOOD) THAT ONE MIGHT EXPECT FROM A VAMPIRE ROMANCE. THIS BOOK CAN BE READ AS A STANDALONE, BUT THE SERIES IS BEST ENJOYED IN ORDER.

Honestly, I think the writing improved in this one. It might just be me, or it might just be because I think Soren is awesome. He’s so flashy and bold, outgoing and snarky. He is also hiding a rough past and needs time to start trusting people. I thought the progression between him and Gabe’s relationship was going to be more of a slow-burn. Which it wasn’t, but that’s fine, they still had their moments as the story continued. Plus this is a vampire series so I don’t know what I was expecting. Gabe’s character didn’t overly stand out to me, but I liked all the sweet moments where he opened up to Soren about his insecurities and how he constantly wanted life to make sense but was starting to realize that goal might be impossible. Then there’s Johann/Jay and oml he is sweetest!! He is literally so precious, he gets introduced like halfway through the book but I smiled whenever he was on page. I gotta say, I may have liked this one better than the last but the odds are pretty close.

Soren is the second entry in the Vampire's Mate series featuring Soren and Gabe. I was so curious as to how this prickly dynamic between these two was going to work. They are both so stubborn and equally damaged from very personal experiences in their past. I think this story moved quite quickly from "pseudo" enemies to fated mates, but seeing how protective and possessive of the other I eagerly accepted their fast moving bond.

Soren takes place over three weeks as Danny and Roman go on their honeymoon, leaving these two stuck together housesitting. I was so curious as to how they were going to make this couple happen and basically their time alone together quickly thawed Gabe's icy persona and unearthed quite a needy, possessive person who was already enamored with Soren.

Through a series of interactions and some life and death situations Soren and Gabe is a great paranormal romance that is different in tone to the first, but was just as enigmatic to see how this couple would have their HEA, which was well earned.

Cannot wait to see how Lucien's story unravels for book 3.....

Gabe found himself watching Interview with a Vampire with an actual vampire. His life no longer made any sense.
A surprisingly fresh take on an old vampire/human love story. It was filled with humor, personal growth, and was surprisingly intimate.
Gabe let out another deep breath, melting back into Soren’s touch. He felt…lighter somehow. Was this how everyone felt, opening up about their feelings all the time? It was kind of awesome.

I really loved reading this story. These were two characters one would never think belong together. But somehow they just work.

✔️Fated mates
✔️Forced proximity
✔️MM/Gay love story
✔️Emotionally repressed ICU doctor
✔️Slightly unhinged, snarky 300 year old vampire
✔️Only has eyes for you trope
✔️HEA, no cliffhanger

The banter throughout this story was so cute!
“And your childhood home is little. And quaint.”

“You’re little and quaint” was Gabe’s super mature response. Take that, vampire.

“I’m little. I’m not quaint,” Soren said indignantly. “I’m gorgeous and chic and way too good for this town.”

This was so much better than the first one. Soren and Gabe's relationship wasn't just based on lust they also had a genuine connection. Don't get me wrong there was a ton of sex in this one too but at least they had the emotional connection to go with it. Don't take my word for it though.

I didn't like Gabe in the first book but now that I see what he's been through is kinda hard not to root for him. I loved Soren so much that's my little monster right there 🫶 They also introduced Jay in this book and am in love with him already. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be too sunshiney. Now it is time to read about my man Lucien.

I've been waiting for Soren and Gabe's story and was not disappointed.

Soren is pretty, oh so sassy, and fierce. He likes the finer things in life and hides behind his aloof, mean girl facade. But Soren is holding on to past hurts that threaten his present and his budding relationship with Gabe.

Gabe wasn't easy to like in the first book, but he's as damaged as his brother Danny, just in different ways. He's riddled with fears and insecurities, and doesn't know how to deal with his complicated emotions.

When Danny and Roman leave for a belated honeymoon, Soren and Gabe are tasked with dog sitting. The forced proximity brings truths to the surface, and the MCs fall into a not necessarily easy but satisfying togetherness.

Soren is good at calling Gabe on his bullshit, and Gabe pushes Soren out of his comfort zone. They're both cuddle sluts, even is they don't want to admit it.

Until the last few chapters, this is very much a relationship-driven story. Then danger comes knocking, and both man and vamp have to make some hard choices.

This book has plenty of everything: romance, steam (bitey sex, baby!), action, suspense. All that and a HEA.

Lucien's story is next. Plus, adorable Jay, Soren's utterly sweet and innocent friend introduced here as a secondary character, is going to get his HEA at some point too.

I'm exited (and impatient) for more books in this series!

Book safety, content warnings and tropes down below.

“Fuck,” Gabe swore. “I never cry.” Soren huffed. “That’s not anything to be proud of.”

I finally got around to listening to the audiobook for Soren, and it was just as good as I remembered, and honestly made even better because of the lovely Michael Ferrawhatsit narrating it. His voice is literally perfect for cocky, murdery vampire twinks who chrochets as a hobby.

Soren wasn’t really my favorite when I read the books the first time (actually probably my least favorite), but that matters extremely little in this case. It has become one of my favorite series, especially when it comes to paranormal romance. Every book is entertaining, funny, cute and hot. They’re low on relationship angst, and pretty much makes the perfect comfort reads for me.

“Come here.” He motioned with his arms to Soren, who arched a brow at him. “Why?” Soren asked. “I want to hold you.” Gabe made “gimme” hands at the reluctant vampire.

Gabe is one of those characters that you end up liking more and more as the book unfolds and you get to know him better. During the first book you get the impression that he’s selfish, uncaring and cold, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. He’s mostly just deeply unhappy, drowning in guilt and struggling with anxiety.

“And I don’t mind who you flirt with, brat, as long as I get to be the one who takes you home at the end of the night.”

These books are utterly charming, and I highly recommend them. Soren is no exception.

Because instead of doing better, Gabe had been getting worse. His world had stopped making sense a year ago. His anxiety kept building; his emotions kept spiraling. He felt like he was… pretending all the time. Pretending to have it together. Pretending to be happy. And he was terrified of anyone seeing through it. And now here he was, failing his family. Again.

He was an idiot, of course. Classic American male with too many emotions and no idea what to do with any of them. Like the way he’d been pushing his family away for years when it was clear to anyone with half a brain they meant the world to him. Idiot, for sure.

A smooth continuation of storytelling from book one, only with a new focus couple, Soren proved to be another delightfully charming, well-paced, MM themed, vampire romance.

Soren, the sassy blonde vampire with a tortured past, made such a good impression on me as the sidekick in Roman’s story, that I was practically chomping at the bit to learn his backstory and watch him claim his fated mate, ER doctor Gabe Kingman—the broody brother of sunshiny Danny from book one.

The chemistry between these two is palpable, with an underlying tension already well at play between Soren and Gabe when the story kicks off. It only takes a wee-bit of forced-proximity to get these two to acknowledge their mutual attraction and come together in an explosively sexy and passionate way.

There’s some juicy angst thrown into the mix on both sides, with Soren running from the horrors of his dark past and with Gabe coming to terms with the recently unveiled supernatural world around him, as well as his increasingly developing “big feelings” for a certain blonde vampire with a tongue as sharp as his teeth.

In both books, I’ve liked the way the fated-mate bonds have progressed, both instant and intense, but not so fast moving that it feels too insta-love-ish to me. I also like the small dose of suspense and action that gets thrown into the mix, making the stakes a bit higher and the HEA more well-earned and satisfying.

Due to the fact both Soren and Gabe played big parts in Roman and Danny’s story, I would not recommend reading this as a standalone.

Another good book in this series! I really liked Soren & Gabe. This book was pretty short & fast paced, so the conflict was solved very easily- which didn't bother me much but I can see some people thinking things get resolved way too easily.
Jay (Johann) was my new favorite character and now I am so excited for his book - because how is a 300 year old vampire gonna be so sheltered and such a clueless idiot 😂😂😂 I love it

Loved:
◇ Possessiveness
◇ Hurt/comfort
◇ Getting to know each other - I especially appreciate this part with fated mates
◇ All the cuddles and touching
◇ Steam
◇ Soren - dramatic, fierce, strong, comforting. His sense of humor
◇ Gabe - hurting and lonely on the inside, his "touch-prone behavior", the way he melted into Soren and let him lead.
◇ Soren's "his human" & Gabe's " bossy little monster"
◇ Jay - the most adorable vampire ever

Loved it even more than the 1st book so rounding up. Can't wait for Lucien's story and then fingers crossed for Jay.

As expected, Soren and Gabe‘s story was a lot of fun 🥰

We already got to know both of them in the previous book - Soren, the flirty, stunning blonde vampire with the manic grin. And Gabe, Danny‘s older and slightly neurotic brother.

And we know that Soren is slightly obsessed with Gabe, stalking him secretly, but otherwise keeping his distance.

As Danny and Roman leave for an extended honeymoon, Gabe moves in temporarily to look after their puppy. It doesn’t take much time after that for both of them to discover that they really like the persons they are behind their facades, and that they are, indeed, mates.

It’s a fun, easy read, nothing taxing. I really enjoyed their banter, and they had good chemistry.

“Soren giggled. “And your childhood home is little. And quaint.” “You’re little and quaint” was Gabe’s super mature response. Take that, vampire. “I’m little. I’m not quaint,” Soren said indignantly. “I’m gorgeous and chic and way too good for this town.”

Was is perfect? No, i especially thought that this book’s bad guy got away too easily. Other than that, I’d definitely recommend it.

“ I trust you to love me.”

eee5u0-TOV9s-LXBZpi-J-ezgif

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Considering how anti Golden Boy Gabe was initially of Soren Iversen and all things vampire-related, I expected a little bit more of a setback against his acceptance of Soren's pursuit of seducing him over the course of the three weeks they would have to spend time together - 'Gabe could only hope he’d survive them' - while Roman and Danny were off on their honeymoon. 🥺 Granted it has been a year since the vampires' arrival upended both his and Danny's lives, but, I thought there would be a little more of a build-up to their connection, rather than the immediate endearments of baby. 😮‍💨

“If it makes you feel better, tell yourself I belong to you. I don’t mind that.”

“I guess we can both belong to each other.”

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ It was funny to see how one boring human like Gabe had fashionista, club hopper, literal monster Soren wrapped around his finger - yearning to claim him as his own. For all Gabe was kind and good, Soren was selfish and flighty, and yet, they healed and soothed an innate part of themselves. Their love language was snuggles and cuddles - affectionate hugs and warm embraces, topped off with cheesy declarations of love. 🥹 It was sweet; they shared some very cute and soft moments that had me going aww, at how they became comfortable with each other to let their vulnerabilities show, while still carrying the hint of desire and hunger radiating from both sides. 😳 'You and I could be very dangerous together.' I liked how perceptive Soren was; he saw through Gabe's strong persona, saw how he needed to have someone to be vulnerable with - that together they allowed for their hearts to be open and honest and affectionate. 🥰

“He suddenly wanted…something. Something different. Something real. He didn’t want to keep his human at arm’s length anymore.”

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ When Soren's past comes to light, I liked how comforting and understanding Gabe was of him. To know that they had each other to feel safe and cared for - an innate protectiveness that thrummed deeply within them both. 🫂 When Gabe didn't believe in his own strength, Soren was there to lift him up. For all that Soren wished to keep his pain a secret, for all the different sides he possessed - the monster. The rude brat. The coward- Gabe loved and cherished him for it, craved and needed his mate - more than willing and ready to offer him any respite - any soothing touch - to his conflicted heart. ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹

“Soren would risk it all—loneliness, madness, death—if it meant a chance at a free life.”

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ I did enjoy it a little bit more than its predecessor. The writing was not as repetitive as before, as the story of the fated mates did not need to be explained in detail this time around, but there were some issues that still bothered me. I wish the author would not be so shy of delving deeper into the angst, or at least give us more of a potential threat. It comes to the point where the threat arrives, but it never becomes something more intense. 🙆🏻‍♀️ It arrives and then just fizzles away. 🤷🏻‍♀️ As much as Soren's past with Hendrick was painful to learn about, Hendrick, himself, did not really pose much of a threat, which I don't know, again, maybe this is a new brand of storytelling, the cozy paranormal vibes with lighthearted tension; which is nice and all, but I need a little more zing to care. I can leave without spice, but I need some action and drama. 😕

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ I was happy to see Jay. Yes, don't laugh, I've already read Johann's story, hence, my interest in completing this series, but he was such a sweetheart to Soren and just so happy to be free of Hendrick, so hopeful that he'll find a human of his own. 😌 That pivotal scene with Gabe was one of my favorites, because the intensity behind the next crucial decision was palpable from both of them. I'm not sure why Luc deserves his own happy ending, but it will be interesting to see how his own soulmate story will play out.

We meet Soren and Gabe in book one. While you can read this as a standalone, I highly recommend reading it in order and starting with Roman, to get the most out of the story.

It was so fun reading Soren and Gabe bicker. Soren is very into Gabe from the outset (vampire fated mate things) but Gabe, who's new to the paranormal, is very against anything to do with him. They grow on one another; with some life and death events accelerating the process a tad.

This book does follow a similar plot structure as the first, with someone from Soren's past coming back to haunt him and threaten his loved one. But it was still engaging and action-packed.

Soren's past was really intriguing and gave us some more vampire-worldbuilding.

We also get introduced to Jay who is super cute. I can't wait to read his romance in Johann!

Gabe and Soren's relationship was much sweeter than I thought it would be, considering how much Gabe seemed to dislike everything about vampires and, in particular, everything about Soren.

I liked this book more than the first one, though Danny still remains my favorite character (...he reminds me of another Danny from another series involving totally different types of monsters 😆). Soren's friend, Jay, was absolutely adorable, and I hope we get his story after Lucien's. For a minute there, I was freaking out because I thought he was going to be paired with Lucien, and I did NOT want to see that happening! 😂 5 stars. This was a lot of fun.

ETA: just got to listen to the audiobook of this and it’s so, so great. Michael does a great job with the voices.

And Jayyyyyy. I can’t wait for his book in audio format!!

Well, with this book, Grae Bryan is solidly on my auto-buy list and this is definitely one of the best debut authors and series of the year for me!

I definitely recommend reading the first book of this series - it'll just make more sense. Gabe is Danny's brother and you get to meet him and Soren in the first book. The two clashed a bit - Gabe mostly because his first exposure to vampires wasn't a great one. Now that Danny and Roman are leaving for their honeymoon, Gabe and Soren wind up spending a lot of time together.

I really love that in this one we delve deeper into both characters - what Soren's past is, and why Gabe is so standoffish and a bit removed from his family. I think that their own pasts and trauma was well explained in why they act how they do now. Gabe's anxiety and mixed emotions felt very real.

Put them together, and the cuddle monster comes out, the sweetness comes out, and their dynamics now as a couple are just so, so great. I absolutely loved their story.

Also - there is the MOST ADORABLE character introduced in this book - YES, even more adorable than Danny. Possibly the sweetest cinnamon roll ever. And I cannot wait for Jay's book. I need the biggest grumpiest GRUMP ever to be his mate lol.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Ooh I love a feisty little vampire with attitude

While Roman was all tall, dark and deadly, Soren is little, feisty and fierce and I absolutely adored him.

The sparks have been flying between him and Danny's brother Gabe since they met, but here it deepens deliciously.

Not quite an enemies to lovers romance, this has elements of that coupled with some wonderful hurt/comfort.

Both man and vamp have ages long traumas they've not dealt with properly before but the more time they spend together, the more they open up.

I loved the sheer unabashed nature of Soren's inner vamp, he's a hedonist who delights in pleasure. Gabe's locked up tight as a drum but slowly learns to relax around the vampire he knows is his mate, even if Soren's saying nothing.

When Soren's past comes back to torment him, each deals with the fallout in surprising ways.

I'd dnfed Roman but I may go back to it some time in the future maybe I dunno

But this installment, featuring Soren and Gabe, was pretty much 85% sex and cuddles! So it was not bad at all lol 🤭

But, most importantly, it introduced the adorable Jay, who I think the author said was getting his own love story after Lucien's, and I'm TOTALLY here for it because he's a Cutie pie and I love him already 🥰

Anyway, Soren was a quick read for a sex and snuggles fix, and I'm actually looking forward to the rest of the series, as I think I'm enjoying the writing style a bit more, and Luc and Jay's stories should be pretty awesome 💖

I absolutely loved book 1 in this series! Roman and Danny were perfect to me! I wasn’t sure how I would like Gabe’s story as I didn’t really like his character in book 1 but that’s really how it was supposed to happen I think. I like learning more about his character in this story and seeing him learn how to be part of a family again.

Soren was great! Such a fun, spunky vampire! I really enjoyed the action near the end of the story and getting to meet Johann. He seems like the cutest, sweetest thing and I can’t wait to read his story!

“I’m not,” Soren finally said.
“You’re not what?” Gabe asked.
“Sweet.” He said it like a curse.
“You are to me.” It was a rare occurrence, to see Soren blush.

Without a doubt I can say that this is my favorite book of the series so far. Which it’s not a surprise considering Soren was my favorite character in the previous installment. Super fast-paced and with new characters to get attached. It’s all heading to be a big found family and I'm always here for it. I can’t wait for the next books of the vampires we already know and the ones we are yet to meet.

description

Seeing Gabe’s playful side after only knowing his more serious one in the previous book was more than what I was expecting. It matched so well with Soren’s wariness. Some snarky dialogues between them were so simple yet so effective. Every time they had a silly argument they managed to make me smile. Their chemistry was no joke.
And I really like the way their past was handled and the repercussions to their current personalities.

With a bratty vampire that can be both, the life of the party and a homebody knitter. And a reserved yet understanding doctor. This is a book I really enjoy. Super recommended if you want to get out of a reading slump. Can’t wait for Lucien’s book (and hoping Jay gets his own).

DNF @ 49%.

I’d been asking myself for the last 15% if I wanted to finish this, and as a wise person pointed out, if I’m asking it, the DNF is just a matter of “when”. I don’t think I have another 50% in me, so 49% is the “when”.

I admit, a huge part of the draw of Roman was Soren. Who doesn’t want to read about this maniacal, snarky, sassy, fashionista vampire?

And that is where the problem lies. I’m not getting snark. I’m not getting sass. You just time skip one year from the time Gabe and Soren meet, glossing over all the poking and prodding, all the antagonism. One year of Gabe doing his outmost to avoid Soren, Soren doing his best to be under Gabe’s skin, and the one week of dog sitting has them making goo-goo eyes at each other.

The last straw for me was the flashback that I was 99% certain served only as set up for Jay… and of course flipping to the Afterword confirmed it:

As for book four… I'm thinking Jay might need his own love story as well :)

★★★★★ bite me stars!!

*squealing* this book is just right up my alley!!

Everything was PERFECT! I have zero complaints. Pretty little vampire? Check. Broody human? Check. Endless cuddly moments? Check. I’ll turn for you? Check. Emotionally unstable character? Check. Check. Cheeeeeck- I’d give Gabe and Soren my heart on a silver platter!

I’ve been hating on insta love stories, but I don’t think I do anymore! In fact, I’m a fan of this trope. Give me more of this deliciousness! Soren is such a pretty, tiny, fierce, and sassy vampire. He loves to play around and flirt with humans, but when he met Daniel’s brother, Gabe, he felt something strange. Is he, his mate? Yes. Unfortunately, Gabe hates vampires and he once called Soren a monster. Things weren’t going well between these two until Daniel requested them to look after their puppy because he and his husband, Roman, are leaving for their honeymoon. Here is where the fun begins *devilish laugh* they had to live under one roof!!!! Mwahaha!

There are so many scenes that ripped my fragile heart into tiny pieces! Singles shouldn’t read this freaking book! The urge to cuddle someone is so strong- just to warn you, it contains heart-crunching cuddly scenes. Funny thing to confess, I might actually have a biting fetish. Why does it sound extremely sexy when your lover bites you? Shit, I need to stop reading vampire stories. I’m feeling NOT fine.

I strongly recommend this book if you LOVE: MM romance, vampire MMC, fated mates, size difference, and forced proximity.

This was such a great read. I really loved Soren's cameos in the first book of this series, and seeing his relationship arc in this was excellent. Getting to know his backstory and why he has his hangups on relationships and life was really well done. I also am a sucker for a character redemption arc, which Gabe successfully achieved.

The bratty vampire and big soft touch starved human was precious. There's so much cuddling in here! Also very thankful for an erotic massage scene, adorable puppy, forced roommates/close proximity, pec love bites, and an emotional bathing scene. This checked a lot of boxes for me.

Like Roman, we have the fated mates trope, this time with a reluctant and wary human who isn't on board with the whole monster life. We learn more about Gabe's anxiety and internalized pressure he puts on himself. The only thing I wished for a little more of was a bigger conversation between Gabe and Danny, but they do have a while to catch up on their childhood.

Overall, my favorite in the series. I highlighted so much of this book while reading.

I received an ARC copy of this book from GRR.

i loved soren and gabe so much, both individually and together.
i just wish the inner demon/vamp was actually more present, just like it was in roman. sure, soren isn’t as conflicted as roman with that aspect, but i expected something.

now, the real star of the book wasn’t even in it, but i guess that’s just the real power: steal the spotlight without even being there.
lucien, cutie pie, i cannot wait for november 3rd.
