McNally Men #2

A New Beau

Rate this book
Will her freedom be ripped away before she gets a chance to really live?

Emma Anderson has been controlled by her abusive father since the moment she was born. She never got a chance at a normal life, and when she finds herself in the hands of human traffickers, it seems like she never will. When a twist of fate leads to her being rescued by a powerful, handsome ex-cop, Emma is given a second chance to live the life she’s always longed for.

Hours after quitting the police force, Beau McNally is out for revenge on a personal vendetta when he discovers Emma—an angel in the middle of hell. His sense of protectiveness over her isn’t surprising, but his attraction to her is. Emma is nowhere near his usual type, but her sweet softness calls to him like a siren.

Despite his attempts to resist her, Beau finds himself falling hard for Emma. When the interest proves to be mutual, he resolves to show her all the things she's missed out on in her sheltered life—both in and out of the bedroom. But there are still threats to Emma’s safety that could put their newfound relationship—not to mention her life—in jeopardy.

This book contains strong language, sexual content, and themes of human trafficking and physical and verbal abuse.

So good!! It had the perfect mix of cuteness while still dealing with darker themes. The way Beau cared for Emma was adorable, I love them together!

girl what even was this 😭😭 gave me trashy wattpad vibes and i hated both characters. the writing also made me cringe. i cba for a full review so i'm just gonna leave this here:

She opened the door the rest of the way until he could take her all in. There she stood, all pale skin and messy curls, yawning like a sleepy kitten.

KITTEN? you should be in jail for that alone.

“Angel, please,” he pleaded. “Stay still so I can get you out of here.”
Angel? Get me out of here?

you should have run tbh. angel is such a vomit inducing nickname 😫

Her hot-pink lips snagged into a pout. “But why not?”
“We’ve been over this. I’m not interested.”
Her pout pulled into a full-on frown. “But…but…”
“Look,” Beau interrupted. “I’m getting out of here. Please get out of this booth so I can leave.”

no woman talks like that. especially not at that age. is she five? i'm aware she's the ex but still.

1 star. hated it.

Thank you Molly McCarthy for the ARC!

“Angel, you’re so much sweeter, kinder, stronger and braver than any woman I’ve ever been with. It’s so incredibly sexy”

This book starts with Beau rescuing Emma from where she was held captive, so how could you not be hooked after that?! Who doesn’t love a good hero story…

It’s not hard to immediately feel connected to these characters. Of course Emma after all she’s been through but also Beau. The way he is so incredibly sweet and respectful of Emma’s trauma- you’ll be falling in love with him in no time. And despite her obvious traumas, Emma was a such a strong female character. She overcomes so incredibly much and is stringer for it. Even the supporting characters made you love them like Diego and Isabella, Fletcher and Jack and Natalie.

This is a slow burn but once the spice starts it doesn’t stop. And I was here 👏🏻 for 👏🏻 it 👏🏻. I finished it in a span of 2 days because I couldn’t stop. It’s also so much more than your typical romance: it has an element of suspense that gives it a thriller vibe.

Read if you love:
🦸🏽‍♂️: a hero male main character
🌶️: some good spice
🔥: slow burn romance
💪🏻: strong female main character

This was a really fun read and I definitely hope there will be more books featuring Emma and Beau in the future!

Trigger Warning:
Human Trafficking, Trauma, Assault and Physical Abuse

This one is a hidden gem. At first I did not expect to like this book but it was so good.
It gave me a Wattpad vibes at first but it very much improved itself.

This book has a tons of suspense, not to mention the slow-burn and a plot twist, Once that slow-burn and drama hits it doesn't stop, there are some topics that might be triggering but it was well written. It has a unique plot for romance and the characters was simply amazing together.

If you like a dark romance, suspense with a thrilling plot and a her that will protect the heroine at all costs. This is a book for you.

This book is 3.5/5 stars for me but since you can't give half ratings on Goodreads, I had to put it as a 3 as it is closer to that than a 4.

TW: human trafficking, physical abuse, verbal abuse, kidnapping

This was a cute, thrilling book. First of all, I love Beau. We love a trauma informed, consenting, gentle king. But one thing confused me. How the hell old are they?

Beau gives me late twenties to early thirties vibes, but Emma makes me feel like she is 16/17. Throughout the book we learn that Emma has been sheltered and abused her whole life by her father. It is safe to say that alot of people in that situation may not act their age due to not being able to actually grow mentally and be around others their age in society. She was always isolated. Never watched tv, never had Mexican/Chinese food, never did normal things we all take for granted.

Emma and Beau meet after he saves her from a human trafficking ring, and then he hides her out while trying to find/kill her kidnappers. But throughout the book, there were so many cringe moments about her sheltered life that made her feel like a child. For example, she asked him what a condom was during their first time having sex. He had to teach her how to give a blow/handjob. The cringe part isn't that he had to teach her these things, because she really didn't know, but the cringe was just how she behaved in those scenarios or her words of choice. It literally felt like he was being intimate with a teenager or 14 year old.

She spends 65% of the book curled on the couch, reading a book or watching reality tv. However Beau is full of action and protection mode, and really, the book should be mainly focused on him and his journey to crack a human trafficking ring. I feel Emma was an added bonus but could have been excluded. Maybe we could have just had the book be focused on Bo getting revenge for his ex Sophia since the human trafficking ring had killed her.

Overall, it's a cute story. Again without knowing their exact ages, some scenes weird me out but again I also understand that trauma knows no bounds and everyone responds differently. Emma seems like a sweet character but really had no development, other than letting her guard down a bit. I would have liked to see her get tougher, stronger, fight back, etc. But Beau is awesome. I love him.

THE BOOK WITH THE CUTEST PEOPLE I HAVE EVER READ.

I wanted to start with that line because both Beau and Emma are really wonderful characters, but also Diego and Isabella (Beau's best friends), Jack and Natalie, Fletcher and his girl. I am delighted with the human quality they have. They are all great characters. It fascinates me how Isabella always supported Emma from the second one and took care of her and empowered her, that was the best, in the same way that Natalie supported her. Diego 10/10 despite all his pain yes He continued to be a magnificent human and not to mention Fletcher, from the second one he supported Emma, understood her in his own way and protected her like a sister 10/10The family chemistry in this story is beautiful. Thank you for this.

The topics that the book handles, I felt well treated and cared for, human trafficking is not a topic of And I love how it was portrayed, from all the corruption leading up to the process. Even the one in Emma's victim position was flawless.

The fact that Emma from the second one was scared and even felt safer sleeping in the bathroom 🥺 broke my heart But the way Beau handled it was super admirable to me.

I loved like Emma despite all the fear, despite all her history with her childhood and father, with human trafficking, she remained a pretty powerful survivor, and She was born in the ashes and grew from them into a mighty flame of fire that no one could stop.

The romance friends, the romance. Fuck, too beautiful, slow enough, smart, fair and brave. I think it was a new experience for both of them, but they were just right for each other and I was fascinated by how Beau had a process to protect her from even himself and his instincts.
I fell in love with Beau, that man gave me so much peace, he gave me so much peace of mind when he rescued Emma, when he took care of her and protected her from the second one. It just gave me peace. And that made me fall in love.

Title: A New Beau
Author: Molly McCarthy
Hero/Heroine: Beau & Emma
Tropes: Protector Romance

TW/CW: Mentions of human trafficking, abusive parental relationship, mentions of physical and verbal abuse

THE GOOD 😀

I really enjoyed Molly McCarthy’s debut novel, Beauty in the Details, so when I saw that her next book was about Jack’s brother Beau, who we met previously, I just had to sign up. This book was so different to her debut and it dealt with some pretty heavy themes, however I really enjoyed the contrast between the both.
Beau has just finished his last day as a Boston police officer when he heads out on a solo mission to finally catch the head of a human trafficking ring. Upon arriving there he finds Emma, beaten, bruised and scared out of her mind. Taking her away from where she’s been held hostage, he takes her back to his place and insists on looking after her.
Beau and Emma were unbelievably sweet together, and I loved how they brought out different sides of each other. Emma had lived a very sheltered life due to her controlling father, whereas Beau was a bit of a player who never took anything too serious. Seeing them learn how to be around one another and approach their new living situation was heartwarming, with Beau ending up being a big squishy cinnamon roll where Emma was concerned. And Emma, even though she’d lived through a pretty horrific ordeal, ended up being tough and a fighter when it came down to it.
Another enjoyable offering from this author, A New Beau was a drama filled and addictive read with some really great characters.

THE BAD ☹️

Emma’s Dad. The bloke made me feel like I needed to scrub myself down with a wire brush just to get the thought of him off me.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy of this to read. This is my honest review.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: An enjoyable and drama filled read
STEAM LEVEL: 🔥🔥🔥
STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I really enjoyed this book!! A kindle unlimited hidden gem for sure! Trigger warnings for: human trafficking, trauma, assault etc.

Emma has been controlled by her abusive father her whole life including selling her to human traffickers! In a twist of fate ex police officer Beau rescues Emma. Beau gives Emma a life she has dreamt of! Somewhere she feels safe! But when feelings develop between Beau and Emma complicate things especially when two people are recovering from two different traumas?

I absolutely loved this book! I loved the chemistry between Emma and Beau! I loved how patient and caring he was towards Emma! I loved the scenes where Beau helped Emma with her nightmares. I enjoyed seeing the sensitive side of Beau that Emma truly brought out in him! I loved the scenes where Beau and his friend work to take down Emma’s father and the human trafficking ring! The spice was enough so much I had to fan myself a few times. This is as such a great read I was on the edge of my seat the whole time!

Another hit from Molly McCarthy - “A New Beau” follows characters Beau and Emma. Beau is a newly retired cop who stumbles upon Emma while he’s doing an undercover mission. Despite wanting to bust the undercover trafficking ring, Beau decides to first save Emma. Naturally, Emma and Beau grow closer over time and love begins to blossom.

For those of you familiar with McCarthy’s work, please note that this book deals with much heavier topics: human trafficking, parental abuse, and death (off page). McCarthy handles these topics with grace and ends up creating a beautiful story. There are also cameos from Beau’s brothers Jack and Fletcher. Does one of those names sound familiar? They should, because Jack was from book one! When authors create stories that build upon each other, or at least take place in the same timeline, I get so GIDDY. I eat it UP! It’s so good, and now I can’t wait for book three, in hopes that we get to learn more about the third McNally brother.

4⭐️ This book was such a good quick read for me, I think it helped me get out of my reading slump🥳 I love Beau and Emma so much, they are so adorable together and I am so happy they both get a happy ending with each other.

Personally, I think the book had a really nice paste and wasn’t too long or too short. Emma’s past was so heartbreaking to hear about, she went through so much and deserved to much better, I am so happy she and Beau have each other. I am so glad that they have each other to take care of and look after, they both deserve so much😌🤍

I rated this book 4⭐️ because this book was a nice and easy read, which I really enjoyed. Even though I am not super attached to to the book or characters it was a really good and joyful read. I definitely recommend!!

This book was "salty and sweet...the perfect combination" as Emma and Beau would say.
My first book by Molly McCarthy and certainly not my last! I had been itching for a romantic suspense book that didn't slather on the angsty and A New Beau gave me just that. Yes, it deals with some very serious issues- TWs ahead, human trafficking, abusive parenting, kidnapping, verbal and physical abuse, HOWEVER, we also get the sweetest love connection between sheltered Emma and freewheeler Beau. We get to experience two people falling in love and learning to live and become more than their tragedies as individuals and as a unit. I so enjoyed this book and I hope everyone else does too.

Thank you to Molly McCarthy for an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is my first novel by Molly, and it did not disappoint!

A New Beau is about Emma, who is sold off to a human trafficking ring by someone who’s supposed to love and protect her. Her angel in disguise comes in the form of mega hunk, former cop, Beau McNally.

This is definitely a slow burn, insta-love (though they take their time considering the circumstances of how they met), forced proximity, damsel in distress book. While it is often light hearted, this book does tackle some heavier topics… so I would highly recommend looking up TW for this book before picking it up.

Beau was so sweet in how he always asked/waited for Emma’s consent in doing anything/making sure she’s comfortable. Beau doesn’t normally go for the meek/timid girls, so it’s nice to see him change as this book progresses. Their relationship is just so sweet.

While insta-love & damsel in distress books aren’t quite my thing, I still enjoyed this book! I would recommend this to anyone who likes those two particular tropes 💖

This is one of my favorite book tropes and it gave me all the feels! The book does involve some topics that might be triggering for certain people but they are handled so well. I love how the characters are able to grow from their trauma together and find their happily ever after, after some suspense of course.

A suspenseful and spicy romance that will sweep you off your feet in more ways than one!

This was such a fun read - I really enjoyed the trope and seeing the characters grow. There are some topics mentioned that may be triggering but it was so well written. There were twists and turns I didn't see coming and of course, a happily ever after even after significant obstacles.

dnf, this book was making me so uncomfortable because i was getting this feeling that emma was a kid, and i know she isn’t but it looked like she didn’t know anything and he was like “ownn look at her, so cute all confuse”.
and because we don’t know their ages (at least i think so, don’t know because i dnf) some situations made me think that it was a teenager and a grown man interacting.

Enjoyed the book. There were a couple of times the POV was confusing- it seemed like we hopped back and forth in the same paragraph. Overall I enjoyed getting both Emma and Beau’s points of view. The suspense aspect was a great addition to the story. Can’t wait for the next book.
