⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Nope, Not For Me*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

The book centers around Jimmy Poe (26) and mafia boss Roderick ‘Boss Cold’ ‘Cold’ ‘Roddy’ ‘Rod’ Legrand (44, turns 45). Jimmy owns a huge depth (because he's trying to get his father out of jail), and in order to pay pack, his body becomes Cold's. What Jimmy hadn't expected was his feelings for Cold. Overall, this was a huge bust. I didn't like it and I knew it early on. But I kept going just in case something could've saved it. Nothing did though. The thing is, I wanted to like this one. I mean, it's a mafia boss M/M book; what's not to like?! Except I got a couple of.... dislikes for this book:
1. The sex was not hot. I ended up skimming them. Quite disappointing.
2. Insta-love. After two days, Jimmy felt that Cold made him feel complete and happy. They don't know a shit about each other.
3. Apparently Cold has never acted this way before, therefore, it's Jimmy who is the cause; must be love. According to Cold's sister, Jimmy makes Cold happy. After. 2. days.
4. Cold is apparently this cold, badass mafia boss.... I don't feel it at all.
5. Jimmy was such a boring character. He always believes 3 days is enough to; "Last night had been full of so many intimate moments, and Jimmy thought he had finally made a crack in that icy armor of his.". No, if Cold is as cold as everyone pretends, than three fucking days isn't enough to open him up. That's just stupid.
6. The names. The name Jimmy reminds me of some pimp, and Roddy/Rod is not a name that makes me thing of a mafia boss. There's no power in that name.
7. Rowena was a terrible character. She's the mafia boss' sister and she tell a man she's known for 2-3 days pretty much everything. All she does is drink and shop/dress up.
8. Jimmy was a weak as man. He has no spine.
9. No depth. It just didn't work.
10. No chemistry between the characters. I didn't even feel it in the sex scenes. I felt nothing.

Other Characters:
Maurice ‘Maury the Mouth’ Martine, Jimmy's loan shark, who he'd known since he was a child. He's also Jimmy's only ‘friend’ and family, with his father in prison.
Jules Price, Cold’s top enforcer
→ Detective Augustus Duplin, who adopted Jimmy after Jimmy's father went to prison for his mother’s murder. He was also the very same cop who had arrested his father, testified against him at the trial, and kept Jimmy from seeing him. Their relationship had been rocky and finally broke when Jimmy turned eighteen. He had demanded to see his father, and Augustus had again refused to let him. Jimmy ran away that night and never looked back.
Rowena ‘Roe’ Legrand, Cold's sister. Boris, their father, used to abuse the fuck out of the siblings. Especially Cold. Cold killed him and served time for it; two years for voluntary manslaughter. Rowena and Cold has different mothers; both dead.
David Poe Jimmy's father who had been arrested 17 years ago for the murder of his wife and Jimmy's mother, Eliza.
Anna, Augustus Duplin’s daughter and Jimmy’s childhood crush.
Mickey ‘The Shadow’ Tamerlane, who just got out of jail. He’s one of Cold’s original Gentlemen; that’s their little family of criminals: the best of the best of Strassen Springs’ not so law-abiding citizens. He's a hitman.
Roger Lorre, Tamerlane's lover/boyfriend who also works for Cold/member of the Gentlemen..
Theodore Pym, also works for Cold/member of the Gentlemen..
Francis Von Valdemar, and Francis ‘Thirdsies Von Valdemar III, Valdemar’s grandson, the pair represented both the youngest and oldest members of the Gentlemen.
Rufus Corman, member of the Gentlemen. He’s not exactly the most loyal Gentleman; he was the last one to join, and he only did when it was clear Cold was gonna win.
Dickie White, Rowena's ex-boyfriend. He's the guy whose murder they’re trying to pin on Cold.
Dario Romero, works for Rowena at La Belle. She runs it, while Cold owns it.
Jerry, Rowena's limo driver and part time chef.
Luigi, Cristian, and Matteo Luchesi, their father used to be the mafia boss in Strassen Springs before he was killed, and Cold ran them out of the city.
Madeline Queen, a doctor who Cold has on his payroll, who both Jerry and Jules wants.

The premise for this book was right up my alley. A cold, ruthless mafia boss falling for a sweet, gentle and beautiful young man? Um, YES PLEASE. I love the trope where a grumpy and powerful guy develops a soft spot for his sunshine love interest. It's just so swoon-worthy to me.
Then again, it's a trope that is sometimes pretty difficult to execute well, and this book is a perfect example of that. It definitely did not live up to its potential, and I had some complaints.

First of all, there was farrrrr too much sex in this book. Almost every single interaction between Cold and Jimmy involved sex. They hardly talked, and they never actually did anything outside of sex. Why they even fell in love with each other is a mystery. You just kind of have to accept that they somehow had a connection, even if there is no reason for them to have that. It's a lazy development of the relationship, and this could have been done so much better.

Secondly, Jimmy was too much of a doormat and Cold was a bit too stand-offish. Jimmy was incredibly naive and easy-going. He accepted everything without question, and he made due with the tiny scraps of 'affection' he got from Cold. He wanted more, but never truly confronted Cold about it; he never demanded to get the treatment he deserved. He accepted being treated as an inferior, someone who needed to keep Cold happy, and it didn't matter how he felt about it.
And don't get me wrong, it's not like Cold treats him badly. He just doesn't treat him super lovingly either. I am having trouble explaining it well, since it was clear Cold cared in his own way, but I still would have preferred for him to be more obsessed with Jimmy; be desperate to make Jimmy happy and try to be the best version of himself for the man he loves, that sort of thing.

And that brings me to my third point: I felt like this book really missed Cold's POV. It would have been very nice to actually know what Cold was thinking. We needed to know what his thoughts on Jimmy were. He's obviously a stoic and tough person, not showing his emotions, and in those cases it's very beneficial to get inside a character's head. I think his POV could have made it more obvious how important Jimmy was for him, and also why.

Nonetheless, I did enjoy this. Sometimes it was a bit boring, it definitely lacked any kind of depth, and there was nothing that really stood out here, but I still liked the general idea of the book, and I do want to read the sequel!

Update 6/11/2020 reread before I start on its sequel Cold Hard Cash 2 ARC! Squeeeee! Who is a good girl who snagged the ARC? Yes you are, Volha, yes you are! *happy sigh* Loved Roderick, Jimmy, Rowena, Dario, Jules and all the Gentlemen! Awesome story!

*******************************************

Out of all the books about Mafia that I have read, I think, I enjoyed this the most. It had an array of flawed characters that were capable of both love and inflicting pain, who have suffered pain themselves and survived; the plot twists that kept the story suspenseful and very steamy encounters that were of the charts hot. Despite seemingly chance meeting between MCs, later on the story tells a completely different tale. I loved the interconnected ways all the characters had with each other.

Jimmy Poe is up to his eyeballs in dept. His loan shark of a friend who used to help him stay afloat can help no more. New boss moved in whose name strikes fear and brings inevitability of broken bones and possibly swimming face first in the river, but an innocent suggestion to work off the debt up close and personal, so to speak, becomes a new and unexpected beginning of something deep and all encompassing. I liked Jimmy. He is loyal, steadfast and trustworthy. It helps him that he is also good looking. He expects a lot of pain when he makes an agreement with Boss Cold but in the end he is well taken care of and dare I say happy. Slowly and steadily he breaks the barriers of Cold's heart with his gentle affection and willingness to be there for him.

Boss Cold aka Roderick Legrand has clawed his way up from the bottom to the top by being ruthless and controlling SOB. All he has been through taught him to be cautious and cold-hearted. He is a lone wolf despite the small family he has surrounded himself with, the Gentlemen. One look at Jimmy has him intrigued. As more days pass, he sees loyalty and passion he never expected and slowly starts to open up. He is reluctant but Jimmy gets under his skin, and Cold can't help but let him in. The quiet moments of vulnerabilities that self-assured Cold displayed at times made him seem more human and less harsh.

This is no story of redemption, of going legit and dancing off into the sun set. Crime families fight for power, loved ones are in danger in the world where one mistake can cost you your life. Cold tries to keep Jimmy safe, and Jimmy gives himself to Cold completely, he sees underneath to the strong, determined and at times tender man Cold can be. It might have started as s*ex, but it turned into passionate love that made Cold feel and finally take a slice of happiness for himself. It was freaking fantastic.

Despite only single POV that of Jimmy, I could almost tell what everyone was feeling and thinking. The secondary characters were vivid and well-written, they added that extra sparkle to the otherwise a bit grim story. There was a perfect balance between darkness and sweet oblivion that Jimmy's embrace gave to Cold. I loved them together. In the end crimes are still committed, Cold is still as ruthless as before but he has given his heart to the young man who was brave enough to take it. Absolutely amazing story! I highly recommend it!

So I went on an Audible splurge and I got this. Best. Purchase. Ever. 🥰

Scott Carousel is a NTM narrator and to say he hit it out of park is faint praise. He took a story that I loved despite the fluff and made me LOVE the fluff.

I have nothing to add say that I hope he narrates the rest of the series and many more books. ❤️❤️

***re-read 12/3/21 - 12/6/21***

This was the fun distraction my brain needed. An absolute fantastical tale about a heart-of-gold gay, mafia boss, and the babe in the woods in need of rescue that captures his heart. Golden oldies tropes are cleverly reworked and in such a fashion that you can't help but identify with Jimmy's sense of wonder and utter devotion to Cold and Cold's 'mine' stance.

Same enjoyment same rating. 😈

WELCOME TO THE GAY MAFIA.
James "Jimmy" Poe is on his last legs, financially, and emotionally. At 26 y.o. he's had to drop out of college (no money), lost countless jobs, and is in debt up to his eyebrows, all trying, unsuccessfully, to prove his father innocent of his mother's murder and get him out of jail. Things for Jimmy are about to get worse or better, depending on how you look at it. His debt has been purchased by Roderick Legrand a.k.a. Cold, the Mafia Boss of Strassen Springs. A deal is made and the rest is romance heaven.

You know those stories where you can see the constituent parts, hear the echoes of countless books you've read before, and yet in spite of or because of that you're enthralled? That was my experience with this book. K.L. Hiers is a NTM author, and it seems to be a first published book, but you wouldn't know that from the finished product. The writing is smooth, well edited, and more importantly, smartly plotted out.

Jimmy is a sweet innocent (almost a damsel in distress, but in a good way) and he finds his knight in shining armor in Cold/Rod. Sure, Cold's armor may seem tarnished to the law and order crowd, he IS a notorious Crime Lord, who's done time in the Big House, but the moment Jimmy & Cold lay hands on each other and undeniable connection sparks. Cold offers to let Jimmy 'work off' his debt in Cold's bed. Jimmy isn't mad about it. Cold has rules or rather one rule: he says jump and Jimmy asks how high. Failure to comply can mean 'punishments', which Jimmy doesn't actually hate. He might, kind of, sort of love them? Also Cold doesn't like to be touched. Reasons.

Take a dive and enjoy. It's like the best popcorn movie. You know what's coming and you want a second helping. Also KUDOS for the wonderful cast of characters. I loved them all.

This book's audio and narrator just won at life. Absolutely jawdropping, lip squealingly perfect. It's so damn good and it is such an experience.

Story wise, I'm thinking of lowering my 5 stars to a 4 or 4.5.

I went into this book thinking it was going to be a hilarious and ridiculous cliche with over the top themes, and generally I was prepared for a 3 star read.

My eyes are TWITCHING at the 5 star.

No one had ever believed in him as much as the gangster did, and Jimmy didn’t want to let him down.

Yes there were some inconsistencies in the writing. Yes the timeline is wack and yes, yes, yesss. I'm aware this book had many flaws but they didn't even hinder a tad bit of my enjoyment.

Honestly, this was book was just.... Ugk. It was so good. I just wanna read book 2 now tbh. But the subtle details Cold has of taking care of Jimmy had me WEAK in the knees. He was the definition of not having to say a word but the presence of significance was on a another level.

And Maury. My dude. My fucking DUDE. I. Love. HIM!!!!! Wrinkly balls and all 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I just.... I love Jimmy and Cold's love story and I'm so happy it's a one couple series

and he was in love with a gorgeous and kind man, who was also a severely complicated and ruthless gangster, but hey, no one was perfect.
In his mind though, here in this bed, Cold was pretty damn close.

initial reaction:
I read this in on sitting and folks.... My eyes are TWITCHING.

”You’re willing to risk your life for this?”
“I’d risk everything,” Jimmy said earnestly, his eyes locking with Cold’s.

I wasn’t ready for greatness and so much intensity in this one. I feel like in the end both me and Jimmy Poe were gasping for air. Judging from the blurb, the books sounds like the typical mafia mm romance but in its totality it wasn’t. Some parts are typical, yes, but I highly appreciate those certain surprises and twists here and there. And the sex! It was fucking glorious. Need the next one asap!!

Wow, this was bad. 😬 I grabbed this book looking for nothing more than a steamy, ott mafia romance… But it didn’t even live up to my low expectations! The plot was flimsy; the MCs’ personalities lacked any kind of depth — Jimmy was one of the stupidest, most naive and childish characters I’ve read in a long, looong time, and Cold, the big bad Boss, was getting all soft-eyed for Jimmy after like 2 days — the relationship was insta, and the ‘bdsm’ elements were exaggerated and seemed more like a parody which pissed me off to no end (Jimmy’s instant trust and submission? Don’t make me laugh); the supposed mafia family acted like a bunch of toddlers, and don’t even get me started on Cold’s sister Rowena… That shopping trip had me rolling my eyes so hard so many times I’m surprised they didn’t get stuck that way. And throwing her shoes like a kid during that party argument…? 🙄 I could go on and on and on.

I don’t rate dnf’s as a rule, but after looking at that 4,11 average rating again, I feel the need to make an exception in an effort to lower it a bit. It’s more of a 1,5, actually, but damn if I’ll round it up.

My first book by this author and it was very enjoyable.

It took me a while to get into Jimmy and Cold's relationship, as it was sex right away - for reasons you'll have to read this for - and their connection as more hadn't been established yet, so I wasn't feeling these two at first. But then as time went on, I started to enjoy these two. The sex was definitely hot and steamy as well. I'm such a sucker for the criminal, the bad guy, falling in love and being soft and sweet and vulnerable with them and usually only them.

The plot was interesting, there being a little bit of a mystery element to this as when Jimmy was a kid, he saw his mother murdered, but no one believed him and thought his father killed her. Jimmy has known all this time, though, that his father is innocent.

When he racks up debt paying for lawyers when he tries to open his father's case to set him free, he's down on his luck, with no job, and only about 90 bucks to his name, give or take a few bucks. When Boss Cold a.k.a. Roderick Legrand, comes to rough him up for not having any money to pay back what he now owes, Jimmy - thinking about what Maury, a friend of his fathers and so a friend of his, said about Cold - offers himself to Cold to pay back what he owes.

Of course, it quick becomes more for Jimmy, who is a sweet, kind, excitable guy who can't help falling for Cold even knowing his ambiguous morality, the fact that he has murdered people in the past. Cold is totally falling for him too, but he got the nickname Cold for a reason, and he's not so free with his feelings, keeping them more locked up, having been through a lot of shit in his life.

But Jimmy, being the sweet, adorable guy that he is, slips under Cold's defenses despite Cold's best efforts to keep him at arms length.

So despite the slightly shaky start for me, and it taking a bit for me to feel the connection between these two, I enjoyed this a lot, and it improved the more I read it. I enjoyed Cold and Jimmy together. I wish we had been allowed to read Cold's POV as well, although I get with the way this was written, Cold had some secrets that the author obviously wanted to wait to reveal to keep us reading and on our feet, wanting to learn more.

Overall, a fun and entertaining book, and I will be reading the next in this series. Two thumbs up from me!

I don’t even know what to say...I can’t say it wasn’t hot. It was. Lots of sexy scenes. Although my interest in that started to wane due to the frequency of said scenes and I eventually started skimming those parts. Which left me with the rest of the, “plot.” And I found all of that super cheesy. Ridiculous and not in a particularly fun way. The premise was good but it, sadly, didn’t deliver. It’s often hard to take mafia or gangster stories seriously. (Except Boardwalk Empire. You should always take Boardwalk Empire seriously.) And it’s not like I was expecting this to be super serious. But it felt neutered. I wanted a little more grit. A longer wait before the big, bad, “cold,” gangster turned to mush. Even more than two nights would have been good. So I don’t think I’ll be reading book two. Not for me. I guess I did know what to say after all. 😉

I loved a few parts, got annoyed for no reason at a few and the ending needed some creativity I thought but I could see why I gave it a four star rating the first time around.

Also did I mention the eerie similarity to The Flash?? The Man in White. Mom murdered. Dad in jail for her murder. Even the fucking "slugger" part. The cop taking him in. The daughter he was in love with. Captain Cold/Boss Cold🤡. Startlingly naive MC.

2.85 stars rounded up

(mafia romance, bdsm lite, age gap, power imbalance, revenge)

"He loved Cold being in control. His mind was completely empty except for the sole focus he had of pleasing this man. It was soothing in spite of the discomfort, calming in a way Jimmy had never known before. He didn’t have to think or worry, he only had to obey."

Cold Hard Cash is a cheesy m/m Mafia romance featuring several cliches. A ruthless, untouchable mafia kingpin nicknamed Boss Cold. A poor, indebted college dropout, Jimmy Poe, who's run up a huge debt with a loan shark. Jimmy’s run up such a large debt that he's forced to strike a deal with Cold—sex in exchange for paying off his debt. There's the usual cast of scary, loyal henchmen who eventually warm up to Jimmy. What is unique, however, is that this Mafia family is primarily made up of gay made men.

Jimmy incurred a debt of $250,000 trying to get his father out of prison. His father, who has been imprisoned for seventeen years, was wrongly accused of murdering his mother when he was a kid. Jimmy started law school with the dream of getting his father’s case overturned. Yet he ends up using his student loans to hire lawyers for his father and is forced to drop out of school. He also borrows money from a sympathetic loan shark over the years. Boss Cold buys out the loan shark and Jimmy’s debts are suddenly called in.

The relationship between Jimmy and Cold starts off as purely transactional. Cold is much older (nineteen years older) and there is a huge power imbalance. He's a gangster, he holds Jimmy's debt, and he's more sexually experienced. Their relationship has a distinct D/S flavor with Cold exercising absolute control in the bedroom. Jimmy soon discovers that he craves the security and peace he feels when he surrenders control to Cold. But Cold deserves his nickname for a reason. He doesn't allow people to touch him, including Jimmy, and has erected impenetrable emotional walls. Cold is unwilling to open up to Jimmy emotionally and it takes a lot of persistence from Jimmy before he thaws.

The Positives
• A fast, easy read
• Smut galore

The Negatives
• Main characters lack depth
• Cliche mafia depictions
• Convoluted plot
• Awkward writing style

I know that my rating is generous given that the weaknesses outweigh the positives, but I was never tempted to DNF the book. The book was entertaining so that’s enough to give it a pass.

Contemporary MM tale about a gangster and his moll (or should that be his Mal?) True story, one of the protagonists, Jimmy, even becomes a singer in a club. Cold Hard Cash opens with a brooding, suit wearing anti-hero gangster (Cold) and a twenty something boy in a pickle (Jimmy). Then it adds a dash of insta-something, some light bdsm, a pinch of corruption, betrayals, humour and some larger than life secondary characters, shakes it all well... and voila “the gay mafia” have arrived! All of these elements made Cold Hard Cash an entertaining romp of a read and I enjoyed it a great deal. My advice, suspend your disbelief, ignore the flaws, hop in the limo and enjoy the ride that this book is.

Like most readers I do sometimes question the creative choices authors make. Especially if the author is new, or new to me. Well this was one of those times. You see I strongly believe both MC’s and the author could do with some advice in certain areas. Let me explain a bit. The questionable choices involved the MC’s clothes. See it nothing earth shattering but still I laughed and not in a good way. A dark red suit with a black shirt and white bow tie? No, Jimmy, no! Never in any universe ever is that ok. And if that wasn’t bad enough...brace yourselves... the big broody gangster was seen wearing spats. Yes, spats in the twenty first century! Twice! Sorry I’m going for a lie down in a dark room… with brain bleach. What’s that noise?

“Woop-woop that’s the sound of da (fashion) police.”

I’ll leave it there.

This books comes with all the heads up and disclaimers it possibly needs to let you know whether it's exactly what you're looking for of if you should pass on to something more your speed.

Heirs delivered exactly what was advertised, a Mafia kingpin and wide-eyed young man that falls into his lap in a very mutually beneficial arrangement.

Jimmy was super easy to root for and get attatched to, and Boss Cold really came through with the promises he made him, if you catch my drift. I was also happy to see their relationship develop past the physical, and into something intense and all consuming that befits their connection.

It also had plenty of fun and interesting side characters like Rowena, Daryo, Maury, Jules and Jerry, and I'll definitely be looking to see if any of them got their own story. I also loved the idea of the
Queer Mafiosos banding together - found families for the win, even in the Mafia!

This is probably a good one for you if you're a sucker for an MC who's a grump for everyone but the other MC. I loved how attatched Cold became to Jimmy, and I'm excited to see their relationship develop!

Also highly recommend the audiobook, Scott Carousel does a fantatic job!

One thing that bears mentioning is the odd The Flash parallels? Like to an extreme. It's the Barry Allen origin story down to the kid witnessing the "man in white" killing the mom, the dad getting sent to jail for it, the kid getting taken in by the Detective, falling in love with the Detective's daughter and the daughter falling in love with the Detective's partner. And the dad calling him "slugger" too. It was all just a lot lol

I loved the start of this book, the first 40% of it was really good but it sort of sizzled out a bit after that.
This arrangement between Cold and Jimmy goes on for only a few weeks before it's love of your life sort of thing which started only days in.
I wanted more of the harsh treatment of someone that was suppose to pay his debt off with his body, not lounging in bed and spoiled with hotel breakfasts. I wanted Cold to live up to his name and be that for more than the days it took for him to drop his defences.

It wasn't too sappy, I'll give it that, it was very close to insta love but it wasn't cavity inducing sweet stuff.

Though I didn't like Jimmy as much as I had hoped, he seemed naive and somewhat stupid, which I kept saying to myself several times during the book, for someone that was suppose to be smart enough to go to law school.
For managing on his own for so many years, even with the struggles he had, he so quickly started relying on Cold, and then the sudden burst of law lingoes and his Nancy Drew investigations seemed opposite of his general behaviour.

Though it was a sweet end, for a book that revolves around Jimmy getting his father released from jail, we don't actually get that reunion. Instead it's sex scenes while I just wanted to see his father step out of prison.

I loved everything about this novel, but a special wowza for the heat - just melted me into a puddle every time. It easily could have turned into a sex without any plot or attachment kind of tale, or Cold could have been someone unlikable over time, but instead you get this amazing slow burn to just incredible emotion and romance and love between these deep and complex characters. Not even just the mains either, the side characters were all wonderfully rich and fun to read about too. If you're a fan of extreme and steamy dominant/submissive play, this hits every button, and has a beautiful love story at its core, with an amazing plot behind it all that brings the whole thing up another level. I cared about these characters and enjoyed every minute spent with them, especially each time I had to fan myself over the amazing sexiness. A definite must read for fans of these genres.

I dove into Cold Hard Cash for a couple of reasons. One, it's a dark romance. Two, it involved the mafia. And finally, it worked for a challenge or two. So, it's a little bittersweet to be disappointed by this book.

Now the romance started off pretty quickly. Fast and hard with no puns intended. Now while I love sexy hot romance scenes, I didn't really like the characters. After meeting Jimmy and Cold, I just felt okay with them. I honestly wasn't invested in anything that was happening between them either. Which definitely hurts my heart because I absolutely love dark mafia romances.

After reading the last page, I think it's safe to assume that I won't dive into the sequel. Unless, and that's a big 'unless', the sequel is like ten times better than this one. At the moment, I'm not even going to think about this series or the next book.

HOT!

I love mafia books. The crime, the passion, and the gray morals, all mesh to make an exciting book.

Cold and Jimmy have a very interesting meet/cute which leads to some super hot encounters!

Cold has a very tragic backstory and so does Jimmy. They bond over tragedies. The trust develops and they slowly sink into love.

The over arching mystery was captivating as well. Off to read book 2. I’m definitely binging this series!

It took me a while to read this because I wanted to savor it. I am not completely sure what I loved so much about it besides the fact that it was not a typical mafia/love story. I enjoyed the writing. I enjoyed the plot. I thought the ending was satisfying and the two MCs played off each other well.

Jimmy was definitely a Pollyanna who couldn't keep his mouth shut for anything. I mean we're talking verbal diarrhea. I swore he was going to get Cold sent to jail because he could barely keep secrets. All that being said, he was also sweet and caring and kind of goofy in an endearing way.

Cold was a ruthless gangster with a soft spot for his sister, his friends and colleagues and of course, for Jimmy.

I am definitely going to read this author's books in the future!

Cold Hard Cash is one of those books with a story woven around the sex. The scenes with Cold’s sister, Rowena, with the gentleman who serve Cold, and even with Jimmy’s friend Maury feel clumsy and a bit forced. However, as the story goes on, the relationship between Jimmy and Cold begins to take center stage, and while the graphic sex scenes remain a prime focus, the plot and the people begin to do more heavy lifting.

Jimmy starts the book as a wide-eyed ingenue, and ends it in much the same way. As a child, he saw his mother killed in front of him, and no matter how much he protested that his father was innocent, he had to watch as his father was taken to prison. His foster father did his best to alienate Jimmy from his father, refusing visits and phone calls until Jimmy was old enough to leave his protection and begin his old life. Even when Jimmy was sick, or broke, or even facing eviction, his foster father was never there for him.

I loved everything about this book.It sizzled off the page in
so many ways.I am glad that i took a chance with this new
author and will definitely be on the lookout for her next
book.Jimmy Poe's life was at stake. He was indebt to Boss
Cold. The Mafia was not known to be understanding when
it came to owing them money.Boss Cold offered Jimmy a
chance to work off his debt,an offer Jimmy could not refuse
despite being terrified.I thought Cold would be a one such
a one dimensional character but he surprised me.He was
powerful and arrogant but his feelings softened towards
Jimmy

What a fantastic premise fo a story,Cold and Jimmy were so
right for each other.I was captivated by the weight of emotions
as the many layers of complexity were revealed. This book is dark,
sensual with intense sexual and elements of BDSM.What a gem
of a book.

Enjoyed this more than expected- a gritty mafia style theme & plot with young Jimmy being the innocent pawn to start off but slowly becomes far more important. Some interesting secondary characters that certainly added meat to the bones ! Book 2 for me now ❤️
