My Holiday Tails

MON MINUSCULE GÉANT (Un Alien pour les fêtes)

Rate this book
During a mission on planet Tragul, I have the misfortune to get stranded with Lieutenant Agan Drankai, the most arrogant prick in the entire alien army of the country Ravie. I save his life during combat. But the big, tough Agan isn’t too pleased about having a “tiny” female as a mission partner.
When he and I end up separated from the rest, we get captured and brought to a secret lab supposedly operated by our allies. A rogue scientist performs an illegal experiment on Agan, which finally allows the cocky lieutenant to get a taste of his own medicine.
The tough guy is now no bigger than my palm.
He thought he hated fighting side by side with a woman before? Now, he literally has to be carried back to his army base by one.
And the safest way for me to do that is to stuff him in my bra.
Despite his small size, Agan’s ego remains as big as ever, but so are his confidence, courage, and loyalty. The better I get to know him, the more I find his “little self” growing on me.

How much does the size really matter? And does it matter at all?

This book was amazing!
From the beginning itself I was completely hooked. There were many many moments that our alpha hero made me laugh out loud, like wise in many other times I felt his frustration and sadness. He was cocky, confident, impulsive and so damn endearing. I loved his growth in the book. Likewise heroine was perfect for him. Strong, compassionate, brave and a warrior through and through.
Strongly recommended and safe.

This was magical! I love how the author used the shrinking of the hero to teach both of them empathy for the other. It was wonderfully done. Also, I thought it was amazingly funny how everything starts when he shrinks. She needs a safe place to put him and she put him in her bra! It was the funniest thing I have read in so long. This was a treat and so much fun. I only wish I had more time with them at regular size together.

Oh. I do like a pleasant surprise. Warms my shriveled, black little heart.

So. The first 20% of this story isn't anything too unexpected; it's pretty standard cookie cutter SFR at its most basic elements. We have Emma, a.k.a. Pixie, a.k.a. Eleven, who is a rare female soldier in a human army mechanized fighter unit.

Meaning.

She gets to wear a big-ass robo-suit and beat the heck out of things.

Except no one can see inside and tell who she actually is.

5-foot-nothing with a slight weight to match, the suit allows her to fulfill her dream of being in the military and Doing Things. All of the men in her unit respect her, and she's one of the dudes.

The alien men they're fighting alongside of though?

Not so much. They're the most unhinged, show-boating chauvinists, and Emma hates spending any time with them. She refuses to leave her suit so they have no idea who number Eleven "Pixie" is. But the worst offender of them all is her counterpart, Agan, who can never shut up or take a clue.

Agan is very impressed with human fighter number Eleven, his bro who does him some solids and saves his tail (HA) a few times. When they're stranded after a dangerous mission and have to walk back to base, things go well until it's time to stop for the night and Eleven needs to leave his suit.

Because Eleven isn't his bro at all. Eleven isn't a he...he's a she. A very tiny, adorable she who is spitting mad and unimpressed with his Opinions about where women belong and what's appropriate for them to do and not do. And she is not yielding to him.

After an ambush that leads to losing his giant stature, Agan is forced to accept even more help from Emma, and he worries about how he'll navigate in the world now that he's about 6" tall.

And.

This is where the magic starts, y'all. And it's so delightfully unexpected. I had so many Feelings during this, some very good laughs, and I will definitely revisit this story at another time, because it's sweet and lovely, and seeing an OTT Alpha Male character who suddenly can't loom and impose have to utilize other methods to win a woman over without strong-arming her? Getting to see Emma feel 100% safe around Agan and fall for him because of his actual charms and personality was delightful to read.

I worried the sex was going to be cringey and uncomfortable to read, but it surprised me too. I love good surprises.

And the resolution and ending to this? Works really well. This is the best work of Simcoe's I've read to date.

I have to give this one a Real Rating of 4.5 stars.

Problematic Content—minor quibble: sex and gender are not the same thing.

Multiple times, Emma gets upset that she's being discriminated against based on her gender, when it's her sex they're basing everything on. I know these terms have been used interchangeably in the past, but gender is identity and there are over 30 of them. Sex is physical body parts/genetic make up (there are 6, iirc), and what Agan's attitudes are based off of.

So yeah, that "gender reveal party" you've attended is really a "sex organs reveal party," sorry, y'all. I know it doesn't sound as cute, but no one can tell you a child's gender except that child when they're old enough.

It's a minor thing, but it was enough to make me want to mention it.

3.5 stars, I’m so torn about this book! It was a fun story and I did enjoy it, but the steamy scenes with the mmc tiny were so weird to me 😂 I ended up skimming them. Even the steamy scenes with him regular size just didn't do it for me! It still felt like they didn't get their perfect time together after all they had been through.

I did love how much he learned about himself and the world around him, and that his experience changed him for the better. I kept thinking that this could be an alternative timeline Gaston, where he gets humbled and has a happy ending 😅

The fmc was great. There is plenty of action and humor!

I will read this again, and will add to my permanent collection. What a good book! The hero is unique and sweet and still cocky. But with good reason. His predicament is handled so well with a gentle touch. Haha. Heroine is kick-ass and compassionate. Both characters are consistent throughout.

Judgment not judgement.

“Memories remained anchored in the time when they had first happened, I believed. It was never possible to recreate them completely.”

Yes!

“They’ll also be a victory parade here…”

There’ll.

“I stiffened by back, getting ready to fight the general.”

My back.

“…where would you’d rather live here or on Earth?”

Even with the few editing glitches I loved this. It was hard to picture a man the size of her hand, or a foot tall. But the author was really aware of this and made it easier. And how sweet.

“When I imagined him sitting in another woman’s lap, or on her shoulder, stroking her neck with his tail, and—worst of all—having one of those fun, easy-flowing conversations like the ones we’d shared, jealousy I’d never felt before burned through my heart like acid.”

The world building was adept, the storyline made sense. Even the sex scenes, yes there are those, were well done. The most was made of what they had, lol. And served to show just who the hero was.

Will definitely read more from this author.

Unique premise, cute story

I’m always a little leery of FMC whose entire identity seems to be “I am in the military” because I’ve been burned by books in the past. Many authors don’t allow FMCs to still embrace the wonderful parts of being feminine and instead have them embrace toxic masculinity and become worse than a lot of emotionally stunted MMCs. Simcoe tempered this with enough compassion, appreciation of feminine things, and normalcy to make Emma a relatable character. Agan was an interesting MC and they had a good dynamic between them.

Spice: 3/5

Triggers: violence

It was good and different. I liked the chemistry between the duo and how Emma changed Agan's mind. Didn't like either general, the traitor or the misogynistic replacement. The romance was strange but cute. I liked Agan sneaking in with the valentine's delivery. The sex was a bit weird when Agan was miniature. Kinda felt like a doll coming to life and get handsy. Sci-fi action with a woman showing a species she can hold her own. I'm curious about other books from this author.

I love a good spin on a fairytale...filled with suspense and of course romance, this read kept you on the edge of your seat. From one dangerous mission to another, Agan and Emma find themselves thrown into the most unusual circumstances when Agan finds himself shrunk down to the size of a hand. Betrayal plots must be defeated however, while Agan realizes that he can no longer protect his love with his new size. Emma is a warrior who proves that women can be warriors. I loved the world building and the writing is exceptional. Enjoy❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Fantastic!
What an amazing story! Two soldiers from different worlds, working to eliminate a seemingly unstoppable force that is systematically overrunning the planet. Their work as soldiers leads them into some terrifying situations. If you’re thinking that Emma and Agan are an oddly matched duo, you would be right. But the author makes their story intriguing, fun, possible, romantic, exciting, and ever so satisfying! After all, it’s a matter of making the most of what you’ve got...and Agan has a lot to offer!

The sex was weird, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing (given that this is SFR, and sex in this genre is never not weird!!). But the author made it believable, which is admirable as it shows real writing talent!!

The world-building was really good, and I'll be reading the other novels set in this universe. I'm keen to learn more about the different parts of this universe.

5 Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

(Having an armored suit would lessen a lot of the differences between men and women in combat. I wanted an armoured suit myself, after reading this novel! 😉)

Such a great read💖💖

This was so much fun to read. I loved married to Krampus so I decided to give this book a shot and I'm so happy I did. Emma is a 5 ft tiny package in a smart warriors nine and body. She has trained hard and fought hard to be the best soldier she can be. She has the respect of her peers and their trust she's excellent at what she does. It not all planets and cultures see women a capable of being warriors. Agan is from the planet Ravil they have been at war his whole life against a nice mind like b!oh creatures that destroy all things in their path. The humans of Emma's unit are on Tragrul to help defeat the enemy. Agan likes the Earth warriors and respects their fighting skills especially number 11. That soldier saved his life, that is until he realizes number 11 is a woman. When that happens they butt heads hard they get captured by the enemy and a life altering situation changed both their lives forever. They must learn to rely on each other and trust that the other will have their back. As they learn to navigate their new circumstances they begin to learn imports things about one another that truly opened their eyes to possibilities and love blooms. The chemistry is wonderful between them, the banter is oftentimes funny, tender and sexy. Truly a great read you won't be sorry if you pick up a copy and read it today!💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

Part of Albatross Astounding Amusements - where basically I read random KU books with odd covers.

Despite the odd cover with a giant, little alien hero sitting on a cupcake, and a slightly bonkers premise - this book was a little more conventional and sweet than I was expecting. This is probably both simultaneously a shame and a pleasant surprise.

The book deals with our human heroine and her alien hero who starts off being strong and alpha but because of plot reasons is shrunk down. The romance continues in a sweet but also creepy manner. I mean the hero is still an adult but the logistics of the “romance” did give me a bit of a headache.

I like the premise of an alpha hero not being able to overpower the heroine but still be all confident and cocky. That was fun.

However, our heroine Emma was a little too serious throughout the book as a premise. She kept bringing the book to space opera levels and focus on the “danger” and the “stakes” - yes, sure but this is not why we are reading the books. Come on - lighten up!

Going with 3.5 fun stars - not sure if I will be continuing with the series but this was a pleasant, (cupcake) sweet book.

I saw one of the other ones in this universe around Christmas (Married to Krampus) and got the whole lot in one go. I didn't get to actually reading the Christmas one, so since this one is supposed to be the Valentine's day one, I decided to start with that, since it's February now.

This sounded so hilarious to me so I was expecting to have a fun time. And honestly, I got what I wanted from it. The premise tells you exactly what to expect, so if you're interested in reading a romance with a huge alien guy getting shrunk (it wears off by the end of course), this is exactly what you need.
The plot outside of the romance was interesting enough that it didn't feel boring when I was reading through the parts that focused more on it. And the romance was nice enough as well.

TL;DR: If you've read the synopsis, you know what you're getting. If you want to read it, I'm sure you'll have fun.

I really enjoyed the premise of this story, with the alpha male lead being physically shrunk and unable to exert the physical presence that he might otherwise have, which led to some interesting and challenging situations.

The character interactions were thoughtful and detailed and I enjoyed seeing the characters develop as individuals as well as in their relationship. The story was thought provoking and I really enjoyed the role reversal and how that played out.

The story was mostly third person single perspective of the female lead, with some male lead perspective - I personally would have preferred more balance but the story was still well told and enjoyable. It was well written and edited and I had fun reading it.

I do LUV a good kick butt, take no prisoners heroine and Emma aka Pixie (she hates that moniker) is sure as shootin’ just that! Emma is a member of a Special Forces military unit from Earth, and they have been sent to the planet Tragul to assist the inhabitants in eradicating an enemy, the Fescods, a particularly nasty invading species.
It’s there she meets another kick butt, take no prisoners smart arse, our hero Lieutenant Agan Drankai leader of a platoon of Ravils, one of a species inhabiting Tragul and soon to be a bane of Emma’s existence.
Fab world building, plenty of action and adventure with a slow burn but oh so charmingly sweet romance delivers a fast moving interesting plot twist that creates some very humorous moments between the two leads. Love of course wins the moment and a happy Valentine’s Day was deliciously earned!

Sweet and delightful romance!

I absolutely loved this super sweet, captivating and highly entertaining romance. Agan and Emma are phenomenal characters that you can’t help falling hopelessly in love with.

Both Agan and Emma find themselves in a strange and unpredictable circumstance. They learn together that no matter their size, they are a force to be reckoned with and stronger together.

It’s a lovely story that’s heartfelt and super sweet.

I almost didn’t read this

Just looking at the cover and synopsis, I thought this would be one of those short and filthy novellas. Since that’s not my taste, I almost passed this by. However, I saw it was, like, 285 pages and I gave it a shot. Omg, am I so glad that I did! Loved it! Such a VERY interesting take on size 😉

Great imagination on the author's part - a well written and entertaining science fiction romance. This is the story of earth born soldier Emma and Agan, a fierce golden warrior from an alien planet. Unfortunately, he's been shrunk to the size of her hand. I really enjoyed it! Lots of fun and some very steamy and creative sex scenes. Also, there's lots of action and adventure.

A tiny giant

I was wondering how a tiny human and a giant of an alien could make things work. These two did.

I enjoyed reading this. We have no whimpering maidens to be rescued, she did the rescuing.

Our H was bigger than life even if he was reduced in size. I loved the way he loved his Pixie.

Loved It!!

Awesome adventure and action in this book! Agan, the self assured, cocky, alien main character thinks all women should be protected and cannot be solider. Emma, thr only female in her specialized Army unit cannot stand the aliens misogynistic behavior and attitude. Hilarious introductions and changes in peeception. Loved seeing these new worlds. Lots of action and super steamy scenes.

At first I didn't know what to think about the story. But, what a surprise! It's refreshing and funny. Really loved it. Agan and Emma are the perfect couple..both stubborn and true to each other. Loved what he did for Valentine's and the way he got to intimate with her. The end...perfect.

Marina Simcoe certainly provides us with a VERY Unique and Engaging Romance when her characters find themselves in an unexpected situation.

With so many opportunities to read Science Fiction, why would you choose this story? Because you will feel all those emotions from enemies to friends, to empowerment of the female soldier, to blossoming friendship and respect, to love. But in a variety of sizes!

Marina breaks some barriers with this tiny tale with a BIG heart!!!

This is an OK sci-fi alien romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 2.5 stars from me, rounded up to 3 stars.

The author says that each book in this series is standalone, but I disagree. I believe that this series should be read in order, beginning with Married to Krampus, as each book builds on the overarching plot. It might be difficult to understand, and would certainly not be as enjoyable, if the books were read out of order.

The basic plot of this book is that human Emma is helping to fight a war on another planet, and meets an alien man from that planet. They get captured together, and he gets shrunk down to tiny size by an evil scientist. After they escape, the rest of the story is about how they adapt to his size change, get over their initial dislike of each other, and fall in love.

I had a difficult time believing that Emma would fall in love with Agan. On his world, women did not fight, and were to be protected by men -- so he was really rude to Emma when he first found out she was a woman. He said a lot of things that really made her angry. I had a tough time believing she would have gotten past her initial dislike of him and his attitude toward women.

I also had a hard time believing that Agan would have changed his mind about women so completely (and so quickly). He had been taught his entire life that women were to be protected, and treated as if they could not fight. But he changes his mind after just a few days with Emma? I just didn't buy it.

I had a difficult time liking Agan, simply because of his attitude toward women. He got better after he spent some time with Emma, but I still had a hard time liking him.

I also thought this book was too short to have as much character development as I like. I would have liked a little more backstory on both Emma and Agan.

There was one other issue, and this is minor, but it is a pet peeve of mine – the cover of a book should match the description of the characters in the book. Agan is described as having blonde hair and golden fur on his skin. Yet the cover shows a man with light brown hair, and no fur on his skin. This may not be the author’s fault, but it still bugs me.

I never really believed that Emma and Agan were in love, or that they ever would be. They were definitely in lust, though. By the way, the sex scenes between them while he was really tiny were just weird. I didn't find them sexy at all, just strange.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
