Gordon Kirby is one laid back individual... but when duty (or boredom) calls, he dons his homebrew hero outfit and patrols the streets and rooftops of Montreal as The Jammer!
Collected here for the first time is the original five-issue storyline of Bernie Mireault's cult favorite alt hero series The Urban Adventure , newly remastered and enhanced by Mireault himself. As an added bonus, the book leads off with a series of shorter pieces that appeared in New Triumph Featuring Northguard and The Jam Special .
A reread for Mireault's entire run of The Jam, from the early issues collected here up to the short runs from Dark Horse and Caliber Comics. The early stuff is the best, in terms of story: after a wobbly start, Mireault finds the tone and voice of his everyman superhero, concentrates on the quirks of everyday life and relationships, and his art becomes stronger, more idiosyncratic and confident. The last few issues, co-written with Jeff Lang, are aimless and unfocused, and presage the series' cancellation by Mireault's choice.
I enjoyed The Jam surprisingly a lot more than I expected to. A simple and funny story accompanied with some funny frames. Not the typical comic trade I read, probably wouldn't read the other books in the series however it was still a fun read.
