This 352-page manifesto will put many other political books to shame. For its intriguing, enthralling assessments of the socialistic mindset and its detrimental hold on American society, The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary offers the reader an outrageously different, intellectually stimulating, iconoclastic, and sometimes wildly unpopular opinion. How can a person, like author Oscar Phillips, possessing a lack of credentials, create a book with such keen insight that has never occurred to anybody else? Writers of any ideological persuasion just plain don't think out of the box like Mr. Phillips does.
“The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary” is a remarkably ardent and precisely reasoned basal that examines the legislative and bureaucratic systems in modern-day America.
Here, Phillips notes that conservatism is a movement for happiness, unity, and social justice with a positive agenda to fight poverty, promote equal opportunity, extol spiritual enlightenment, and help everyone lead happier and more fulfilling lives. He neatly hammers any idea that conservative ideologies lack relevance in today’s rapidly-changing world. As the chapters unfold, the writer presents his viewpoints with candor and precision, examining different structures of governance while not shying away from sharing his atypical assessments.
“The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary” is readable and consumable, well-written, and thought-provoking. Further, author’s command of facts is august. Having lived within a conservative environment, Phillips manages to bring lucidity to a subject that most analysts misperceive. While some of his beliefs on politics and socialism may appear contentious, his egalitarian approach to the various subjects that he discusses is what gives this book an elevated poise.
This volume offers a refined and enlightened presentation of what is singular about conservative social and political ideas. It is a compendium with an argument, that evokes pondering, reflection, and musing about the future of America and what part each American citizen can play to ameliorate living standards. Blunt and punchy in its own right, the text further suggests rejecting the values set by government socialists and returning to values that allow us to pursue life, liberty, and happiness. He further looks at areas of government, politics, society, and culture offering his insights on the same.
Overall, “The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary” is a must-read for anyone interested in the basic tenets upon which the United States was built, and most importantly, a rallying cry for all Americans. Indeed, Oscar J. Phillip’s forthright work is bound to serve as a rousing gallop for Americans and political science students alike. Its arresting viewpoints are worth a good read
The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is certainly an interesting read. As someone who is fairly pulled back from politics most of the time I try to stay away from such books, but as this year is an election year, and a monumental one at that, I decided to give this book a try and it was pretty elucidating on the topic of what the conservative mind thinks in the modern day and age.
The title is definitely descriptive, the structure of the book can certainly be seen as a rant, as the author goes off on various things about the liberal establishment from the acts and actions of the typical liberal college student all the way up to the actions of Barack Obama and his disastrous implementation of Obamacare and so much more. For such a loaded topic it is a bit dense at 415 pages but the author strives to make the journey interesting.
I do not agree with everything said in The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary, but I feel like you shouldn’t have to agree with something simply to experience it, and that’s what my lasting impression of this manifesto is, that it’s an interesting experience and one that should be read so that others may form their own opinion at the pressing topics presented here.
Overall it’s a fun read, as it is a rant I do recommend occasionally taking a break from the book to let your mind breath and absorb what you’ve read before returning to it. While I’m sure you won’t agree with everything this manifesto has to say, as I didn’t, I do encourage you to read it if you’re interested in what goes on in the mindset of a current day Gen X conservative, which is a demographic of people I feel are tragically underrepresented on all facets. It’s good to know people on all sides of the political isle, and this is a great learning experience for all involved.
Oscar Phillips did not go to college but has completed four and a half years of high school. However, he developed his out-of-the-box approach to anti-socialism in his 352-page manifesto, The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary. He does not have the credentials to back his mindset on paper, but he proves his knowledge, complexity, and logical thinking in his book. In admission, I am not a political guru, but I am confident in identifying a brilliant read, and this book exemplifies a brilliant read. I firmly believe in doing your research, and it is clear that Phillips conducted the research with his strong sense of observation and personal opinion.
When I say I am not a political guru, I strongly mean it. Politics is a sensitive subject that is strongly opinionated and can lead to damage and elimination of relationships. However, I love how Oscar Phillips presented his information to structure it from a learning perspective. In each chapter, I read flashbacks to my high school history class and how I struggled to understand the concepts, laws, historical events, and many more. Now, I know why. I applaud Phillips in his NO BS, unfiltered approach. The writing of this book proves that credentials on paper are less prominent than having the skill to write an enthralling and intriguing manifesto that has the potential to change not only our political system but the entire world. The book was stellarly written, edited, and structured. You will find this book enticing even if you need to be more politically knowledgeable and passionate. For these reasons, I am rating this book five stars.
The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary by Oscar Phillips is truly a rant. It's an organized rant, but a rant. Throughout the book I found myself wondering how he came to many of the conclusions he made in his ranting. What experiences or lack of caused him to write these things? He was raised in a Democratic state with Democratic parents, yet he had a hate for them. As he lets you know he spent over four years in high school. He seemed to have a hate for organized knowledge and gathering of knowledge. He watched from the outside guessing what college life and courses are like. What were they learning in these places? If he did not attend, he does not have a true picture. As the author provokes you to continue reading these various topics of ranting, I did disagree with a lot, but yet I was able to think about the facts that I know and experiences that I have had to disagree. This allowed me to organize my thoughts to have on tap ready to go to engage others in conversations that may take place with people such as the author. The author is condescending and sarcastic, at times I thought it was satire. The book made me experience many emotions, which I believe a good book should. It gave me an insight into why some believe as they do. It is always amazing to me that we all come to different conclusions in life. But it all has to do with every experience we have had. How they affect our persona, heart, and beliefs is so individual. This is our greatest asset, freedom of speech.
In general, I have never really considered myself political. As the author mentions in his introduction, most young people are not politically-inclined or simply are influenced by their parents when it comes to political affiliations and opinions. That being said, I learned a lot from Phillips in this level-headed, point-blank approach to explaining the true differences between the Right and the Left and hashing out the misconceptions and myths that surround both parties. With so much information bias and social media agendas today, it truly is difficult to know the facts, but it’s pretty clear Phillips has done his research not only from watching how our country has changed from the 1960s until now, but by studying political endeavors endlessly. Even if you don’t completely agree with his stance, Phillips makes an excellent point several times that we should be able to have healthy conversations and debates amongst each other in order to achieve better policies and compromises for the greater good, but instead we have so much division and short-sightedness based on “taking sides” or going along with a side just to not feel ostracized by peers. This I could absolutely relate to; but I agree with him that our freedom of speech should allow us to have a “freedom to be wrong,” as the author states. Despite Phillips leaning conservative, I didn’t feel like politics or a specific agenda were being stuffed in my face in this read – just an enlightening and refreshing perspective that I think everyone should give a chance.
Despite the author's self-professed lack of formal education, Phillips offers a unique and sharp perspective on various social and political issues. He doesn't shy away from controversial topics, taking on everything from liberalism to feminism with a fierce and unapologetic tone.
What sets his book apart is Phillips' ability to engage you with his raw honesty and biting wit. His arguments are often aggressive, and he doesn't hesitate to express his disdain for opposing viewpoints. However, this unfiltered approach is also what makes his book so compelling and hard to put down. It forces you to confront your own beliefs and consider perspectives you might otherwise dismiss.
Phillips' writing is easy to understand yet intellectually stimulating at the same time, which makes it a great read for those of us interested in understanding the current political landscape from a conservative viewpoint. While some will find his views abrasive or extreme and whether you agree with him or not there's no denying the thought-provoking nature of the arguments he makes.
"The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary" is a refreshing departure from the ordinary, in a time when political discourse often feels constrained by societal norms. This book and its author dare to speak its mind, challenging its readers to do the same. Whether you're a supporter of Phillips' conservative views or not, this book is an engaging and eye-opening read that deserves attention.
I enjoyed reading this book by Oscar Phillips. A friend told me about it and strongly encouraged me to read it. It offers a rare straight-up provoking collection of essays. There are a lot of sharp ideas and candid opinions on some tough topics. The book comes off an unapologetically honest and very engaging.
One of the most striking elements of Phillips’s work is his ability to provoke deep reflection, regardless of where you stand on the political spectrum. As a former liberal turned conservative, his insights are not just bold but also backed by personal transformation, lending sincere authenticity to his arguments. His essays push readers to question their own beliefs and consider perspectives they might typically dismiss.
Despite some confrontational viewpoints, Phillips maintains a wit and sharpness that kept me engaged and that is not easy to do. His stance on free speech, for instance, is not just a commentary on current societal norms but a call to return to a time when expression was celebrated, not stifled.
Even if you find yourself disagreeing with many of his conclusions, it’s impossible not to respect Phillips’s commitment to speaking his truth. The book is a catalyst for broader conversations about the ideologies that shape our world, making "The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary" not just a book, but a starting point for deeper exploration and understanding of modern conservatism.
The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is an intriguing and unique take on politics. Oscar Philips takes the reader through a journey of his personal ideas and opinions that inspires deeper thought and attention to politics from readers. Despite his lack of a formal education, Phillips can stand confident in his political convictions and the reasoning behind them. Phillips takes the opportunity to give his reflection on religion, social values, and varying forms of government, among many other topics over 362 pages in his narrative. His passion is evident through his ease and style of writing and the book is well organized, which makes it an enjoyable read, wherever you are on the political spectrum. While you may not agree with every explanation presented in the book, readers can find new perspectives to consider and debate amongst others. I particularly appreciated that the author included his thoughts on what to do about the issues at hand, rather than simply presenting the reader with problems lacking solutions. This is not always something that is explained in other works, but it is an essential part of this book. In our current political climate, this book is a thought-provoking read and I would recommend this book to those interested in politics, especially if you are looking for honest and open discussion. This is the perfect read in an election year and in years to come!
Reading "The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary" by Oscar Phillips felt like navigating a whirlwind of provocative ideas and unfiltered opinions, especially in the context of the upcoming presidential election. This book is a collection of essays and thoughts that challenge conventional wisdom with an audacious conservative lens. As someone who doesn't align with the political views espoused within its pages, I still found it incredibly intriguing and insightful.
Phillips's writing is a rare blend of erudition and raw honesty, making it accessible to anyone with even basic literacy. His iconoclastic approach is sure to ruffle feathers across the political spectrum, but that's precisely what makes it so engaging. Each essay dives deep into topical and philosophical issues, offering perspectives that are as contentious as they are thought-provoking.
With the media frenzy surrounding the election, this book provided me with a clearer understanding of the American right wing and its current ideologies. Phillips doesn't shy away from subversive ideas, and while I often found myself at odds with his conclusions, I couldn't help but appreciate the cerebral stimulation his writing provides. It's a book that will provoke, challenge, and likely unsettle you, but it is undeniably a compelling read.

Phillips presents strong, honest opinions on a range of topics, challenging readers to engage deeply with the material. His insightful commentary stimulates thoughtful reflection and invites readers to reconsider their understanding of complex subjects. Phillips’s approach is both courageous and accessible, effectively making controversial issues more approachable without compromising depth.
The book tackles often provocative subjects that can spark intense debates, but Phillips’s clear and coherent writing ensures that readers can follow his reasoning without becoming overwhelmed. His strong, dedicated stance on these issues keeps readers engaged, making the book an educational resource as well as an intellectual stimulant. The Rantings of an Uneducated Reactionary serves as an excellent tool for those seeking to expand their knowledge and understanding of complex political and social topics.
Overall, the book provides a fresh perspective and challenges readers to think critically about their views. It is an enlightening read that offers valuable insights into significant issues, making it a worthwhile choice for anyone interested in exploring and understanding the nuances of contemporary political discourse.
The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary was an interesting read. I'm not big on politics or the elections or anything but it got me thinking. With all the unfiltered opinions, it made me realize that I'm probably one of those people who stay silent when they shouldn't. Especially in this type of sense. I wish I could be that blunt or that opinionated with something im passionate about. This is the future. Elections and politics shape our future, who ever is in office makes a difference, if the past four years haven't been enough evidence lol. It gives examples of what each side does so its good to know for reference when someone like me hasn't been involved or really interested in the topic. Perfect for someone just needing a breakdown of opinons, regardless if you agree or not with the author. Its just good to have handy. Not sure why we had to announce that the author is uneducated, does it really matter? They're voicing their opinion to the masses. Its a good thing. There are a lot of uneducated people out there by different definitions. Ignorance, no common sense etc. But this book is really about their rants lol I think its a good thing cuz not a lot of people can attest to thinking critically about a heavy topic like this.
The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary by Oscar Phillips is a thought-provoking manifesto that boldly seeks to challenge the conventional political discourse. Phllips adopts an unwavering stance in his critique of the socialistic mindset and its impact on American society. Despite his lack of formal credentials, Phillips's analysis is sharp and biting, giving us an insight into his understanding of political dynamics. This book is a departure from typical political commentary, presenting an unfiltered and unapologetic perspective. Phillips addresses a wide array of topics, from college campus liberalism and feminism to constitutionalism and social values, with a fearless and provocative tone. His writing reveals a passionate commitment to national politics, making the book an interesting read for those who wish to understand a particular political view. The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary will help anyone seeking to challenge their own beliefs and gain a deeper understanding of the political spectrum. Phillips's unique voice and fearless approach make this a worthwhile book to spend time on.
THE RANTING OF AN UNEDUCATED REACTIONARY is sure to stir some reactions from readers. and that's part of its intent--to give voice to intelligent, controversial opinions. The universe knows there's plenty of silenced voices these days, after all.
Specifically, this book is for anyone unapologetically unafraid to broach politic matters that so many avoid--or at the very least--hide their opinions on. Phillips's background as a liberal-turned-conservative is a courageous declaration in today's political climate.
Still, Phillips's deeply reflective essays and musings on topics such as race, feminism, and...The Beatles (in a way you've never read about before) are awe-inspiring. His opinions aren't necessarily popular, but they're valid in the free world. Plus, his voice and tone make it feel like you can sit down with this guy and talk for hours. He's witty, sharp, and unorthodox in a world of conformists.
You may not agree but you can respect his freedom of speech. And that's why words matter. I found myself diving more into my own beliefs and seeing things from a broader perspective.
Oscar Phillips is a man who feels strongly about his beliefs, and this comes through in his passionate arguments about politics and the world around us. His provocative and exciting ideas allow you to think about other perspectives. His criticisms of the American left are supported by anecdotal experience and his own analysis of both historical and current topics. Phillips is unapologetic in his ideas, and I found myself enraptured by how he presents his points about a wide array of topics from socialism to feminism and even Marxism. This is a wonderful book for exploring different political beliefs, and learning more about your own. I found myself pondering my own views on some of the subject matter that Phillips brings up, and enjoyed the time for reflection that this book offered me. Oscar Phillips may not share popular opinions, but they are wholly and truly his own, and that's an impressive feat in and of itself. This is a great book to pick up to learn more about politics and learn more about yourself, highly recommend.
The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary was an absolute joy to read, striking a perfect balance between humor and refreshing social/political commentary. One of my favorite things about Phillips’ style of writing is how comfortable it feels in itself, the ease with which it pushes the boundaries of style: “Our country will hopefully and soon revert itself back to the hippie generation where the term “freedom of speech” was in BOLD PRINT, not in “quotation marks.” This example not only shows how well-crafted and memorable each line is, but the work’s careful interrogation of labels that have so long governed the American people, how they have distorted over time and lost their true meanings along the way. The book combines extensive research and the authors’ personal experiences to demonstrate the importance of keeping open (blunt) dialogue and a level head, to fully understand the context and history of the opinions with which you identify yourself.

This book is most certainly something else. Phillips absolutely picked the correct title, if that is any indicator for what lies in store upon opening up the pages.
There’s most certainly a lot of thought put into this. That is evident in the convictions that Phillips holds, loud as they are on the page. They also have this tendency to weave in and out of one another, each singular thought feeding into the next, and then coming back a few paces later. The entire text reads less of an ouroboros and more of a gorgon’s knot of circulating concepts.
In a way, and I do mean this fondly, it reminds me of being on the late ‘drunk bus’ at college. I’d be getting back to campus around midnight from the library and just take the bus back to my dorm because it would be safer, and in the process, there would inevitably be someone talking far too loudly at the back. It was always entertaining to listen.
The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is provocative work that offers readers an unfiltered dive into the mind of someone deep in reactionary thought. The book is not a polished or scholarly critique of modern society but rather a raw, unapologetic expression of the author's frustration. The structure of the book is loose, with each chapter functioning more as an individual essay or rant, which is a style that was different but I did enjoy. The passion that fuels The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is palpable on every page. This passion is coupled with a deep sense of conviction. The author does not shy away from expressing strong opinions, and this fervor is what makes the book so engaging. The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is a polarizing work that will likely appeal to a niche audience. This book is a raw emotional outpouring, which is somewhat refreshing. The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is not just a book to be read; it’s a book to be debated and discussed.
This nonfiction novel holds many opportunities to dwell on thoughts regarding topics such as capitalism, socialism, and a stance on all sides of the political spectrum. Oscar J. Phillips stresses the monumental moments he experienced for the duration of high school where he grew an interest in politics. If you’re passionate about political history as it continues to unfold, this is the perfect book for you! Not only does Philips offer a stance on what it's like from the liberal perspective, but also on the conservative perspective. He discusses more worldly topics such as LGBTQ+ and what it’s like to stand for or against it. As he dives into detail, examples are included of what a conservative citizen might think versus what liberal citizen might think. If you’re an individual looking to be educated on politics today, then this book would be a great resource for you to learn more about the history of those around you and what they might support.
This book will through you for a loop with all the political party talk of liberalism to the road of socialism. In this political world arena, its had not to stubble cross the political politics of today’s world. We are casted in a collective essay manner within this book that thrusts us into the collective consciousness point of view. The author starts out talking about anti-socialism is the narrative of the literature and have most are not anti-socialism but is that the real problem. As the author explains through the landscape of the political arena as he pulls back the curtain in time to show us how the world worked in the 70’s and 80’s with the presidential campaign elections. This book might invite, provoke and challenge everything you might think about the political system. I recommend this book to anyone who will investigate those issues or ideas you of the political era we live in today.
The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is a thought-provoking exploration into unconventional ideas that challenge mainstream perspectives. The book is a collection of essays brimming with sharp critiques of everything from socialism to modern conservatism, written with a raw honesty that’s hard to ignore. What I enjoyed most was how the author proves you don’t need a fancy degree to deliver intellectual punches that stick. It’s a refreshing reminder that anyone can contribute meaningfully to the discourse if they’ve got the guts and the grit to do it.
The writer’s tone when penning his “rantings” is familiar, unconventional and informal. One gets the sense of the author being in a room filled with people and then begins to vocalize his beliefs. The author’s need to get his philosophies and beliefs off his chest is the essence of this book. His topics vary greatly as the Table of Contents illustrates: “Bush vs Obama”, “The Politics of Compassion”, “The Socialist King”, etc. Some readers may be turned off by the author's beliefs and his conviction to relaying said beliefs to whomever will bend an ear and even those who won't. For political junkies like me, it’s necessary to try and see all sides of an issue. Otherwise, how can people come together to compromise and make policy if we don't know what people think, never mind work against common foes whether internally like hunger and poverty or externally like those who threaten our national security. This book is a great resource to gather insight into how a percentage of Americans feel about this country’s political system. For that reason, I would greatly recommend this book!
OMG, The Ranting of an Uneducated Reactionary is like sitting down with your loudest uncle at Thanksgiving—but plot twist, he actually makes sense (sometimes). Phillips comes out swinging at society with takes so bold, you might need a helmet. But dang, this book makes you think! It's proof that brains don’t come with a diploma, and his sass and smarts will keep you flipping pages. If you want a book that’s equal parts fiery and mind-blowing, grab this one. Trust me, it’s a ride. 🎤🔥
In The Rantings of an Uneducated Reactionary, Oscar Phillips offers a provocative critique of contemporary American politics. His book dissects the blurred lines between political ideologies, particularly focusing on the shifts within the Republican and Democratic parties. Phillips presents a stark and unflinching view of what he perceives as the encroachment of socialism in American politics. His analysis is direct and often harsh, reminiscent of a butcher dissecting meat. Phillips excels in his use of language, deftly balancing factual analysis with satirical commentary. While the complexity of his arguments occasionally adds a verbose touch, the book remains engaging and thought-provoking. Whether one agrees with Phillips or not, his incisive examination challenges readers to reflect on the current state of political discourse. The Rantings of an Uneducated Reactionary stands out for its bold stance and intellectual rigor, making it a significant contribution to contemporary political literature. I found it be an easy and worthwhile read. If you find the topic of politics intriguing, pick up this book for an intelligent take on one man’s thoughts. I would give this a 5 out of 5.
This book is pretty interesting to read. From a high school graduate to an author, the book signifies his opinions on the political left and then some. Overall, it’s an interesting read, with many examples of what happens with what the “left” does. I’m impressed by his long-winded diatribe and feel that maybe he should have decided to go to college to further his education so he could make this rant better. Personally, I think it’s just an interesting book to read, and if you like political rants, this book is for you in so many ways. I mean it’s at length and broken down into various chapters for the reader to take in and should be maybe a way to think about how the left may think. Again, if you like political rants I would check this book out when you can. I will note that it is controversial so I would keep that in mind when reading it, just so you know.
