Death is a funny thing. It usually happens when and to whom you least expect it. Clyde McCoy had a lot of good years left in him—had being the operative word.
Allie and Lucy discover an abandoned dog on the beach, but they know who she belongs to and that her owner would never abandon her. That coupled with footprints going out into the ocean makes them suspicious. It’s obvious to them that because Clyde would never abandon his dog foul play is afoot. Can Allie and Lucy figure out what happened to Clyde?

Allie and Lucy are at it again. They decided to go running at sunrise on the beach (pant, wheeze) where they find Clyde McCoy's dog Sadie. They drive to Clyde's house, Alie's former neighbor, and get no response to their door knocking and bell ringing so they try the door and go inside looking for him. They then call Alec who also brings the cops. They decide to go back to the beach to see if Clyde may be there only to hear a woman screaming - Clyde's body is in the tide pool. Meanwhile Alec has been offered a detective position working for his friend police chief Ben Fuller and decided to accept. Allie, Lucy and the police start interviewing suspects. Allie also convinces Mr. Winters to take Sadie home. The murderer is caught and all is well in Sandy Harbor, until the next time.

This is the 19th book in A Freshly Baked Cozy Mystery Series and it is a nice book. I like its summer atmosphere. This is one of my favourite series and I am looking forward to the next book.
Allie didn't expect a trip into her old neighborhood to be so awful. Her sweet older neighbor had been brutally killed at the beach, and she found out her house was now owned by a class A jerk who'd treated poor Clyde terribly by tossing trash into his yard. There were quite a few great candidates for killer in this book, but a cleverly hidden clue stood out to me and I kept remembering it which made my hunch correct when it was time for the reveal. I loved what happened for sweet pup Sadie (Clyde's dog) to get her forever home with someone who hadn't even realized he needed a dog!
I love reading about summer in Sandy Harbor! That beach (minus any murders) sounds so inviting and perfect. Now I'm actually caught up with the series since I happened to read the next book earlier in the month as an ARC. I'm eager to see what the newest book after that brings!
This is such a fun series. The author’s writing style makes you feel you are right there with Allie, Alec and Lucy as they investigate the murder of an old friend and prior neighbor. While Allie and Lucy are on the beach, they find a dog wandering around. Allie knows who the dog belongs to and knows it’s owner would not abandon his dog so they become suspicious. As they try to find the owner, they stumble upon his dead body. Allie has plenty of suspects as she speaks to the family and neighbors of the dead man. There are plenty of twists and turns trying to figure out who did this and why. Could it have been a family member, a girlfriend, or the new neighbor? You can sense Allie’s feelings for her friends, her neighborhood and her community as she tries to solve this crime. Join Allie as puts the clues together.

When Allie's former neighbor Clyde is found stabbed multiple times, she is determined to find justice for him. Between the new owners of her former house, his greedy money-grubbing children and a fiance no one knew about, she is discovering a side of Clyde that maybe even she had no clue.
Another winner from Suzette in this Freshly Baked Series that sees Alec making a life changing decision as well.
