Rocket Man: Master Of The Universe

Rate this book
Ruling North Korea has lost its appeal for Kim Jong-un. Missile mayhem, executing minions, or hanging out with basketball legend Dennis Rodman can’t lift his mood… What’s a poor dictator gonna do?

Tapping into Kim’s superhero alter ego, a group of terrified generals think they may have the answer. Who is going to stand in their way? Not best buddy Dennis Rodman, who is determined not to miss out on any intergalactic joyride, if he does not foul things up.

In a race against time… Can these two outsized personalities keep their friendship intact? And just maybe fulfill their dream of propelling the “Rocket Man” and the “Worm” roadshow into outer space, saving the earth in the process, too?

**Should Read as 3.5 Stars!**

This straightforward short fantasy story is a parody about the North-Korean Super Leader, Kim Jong-un and his friend, the former US basketball player, Dennis Rodman.

Bored by being the ruthless leader of North-Korea, Kim Jong-un seeks a new challenge and adventure, and that will happen when his dream of becoming Rocket Man becomes suddenly reality.

Behind his back all the generals of North-Korea are playing along in this endeavour to get rid of this horrible creature, while the Super leader's friend, Dennis Rodman, later on called the Worm, will encourage Kim Jong-un, and join him on the space expedition.

All in all this is a funny caricature of two deranged personalities, who the rest of the world wants to get rid of, and somehow they will succeed by sending Rocket Man and his friend the Worm into space with no turning back, and that's why I give my header its title of: "Hilarious Rocket Man Seeks Freedom!"

** Thank you to the author for this digital copy without any obligations, and so I can state that my review of this book is completely unbiased and honest!**

This is a short story involving the North Korean leader and Dennis Rodman, the American basketball star (former player).
I truly enjoyed the writing.
This author writes so well.
The dialogues are smart and funny.
The big ego of the main characters are well displayed.
I just didn’t find the storyline that engaging, perhaps because I don’t care about those two human beings, but this is a clever and funny story.

This read took me a bit longer than others but I always find controversial reads a bit harder. When I first got the book I saw the cover and I was excited for this graphic novel. Even though it was instead a short story about one of North Korea’s most brutal rulers having the desire to be the rocket man it was pretty hilarious.

I stay pretty clear of satire when politicians are involved but this more comedy than politics. From page one I wanted Kim Jong un to leave but I also wanted to know if maybe he decided to change his ways instead of spiriting himself off to space.

I’ve taken a short break from this type of literature overall but I’m happy I got back into this.

Happy reading everyone 😍🥰😙😊!

I received an ARC from the author and I am leaving an honest review.

This is the first novella by Yoel Bereket that I've read, it was absolutely bizarre and hilarious, with a dash of political commentary/parody added in.

Unfortunately, this is a fantasy book, too bad it won’t happen. It was a very clever and funny story. We all need a comic break from life. Dennis and Kim play the two stooges in a race to space. The Rocketman and the Worm, together forever.

Kim Jong Un and Dennis Rodman go to space.

In the magazine, National Review, Rob Long, who used to write for the sitcom Cheers and other shows has a column, where he often pokes fun at Kim Jong Un. This is like that, only a whole novel. Pretty funny.

A comic caricature of Kim Jong-un and the military of the Hermit Kingdom. What if the Supreme Leader were to decide to conquer space…personally? And what if his bestest buddy went along?

Enjoy the imaginings of author Yoel Bereket as he and the rest of the world put the Little Man outta here.

This is not the first time that I read this Author’s work and let me tell you this short story is hilarious. It was easy to read and easy to follow along. I even imagined the story as It played out and it was just too funny. If you like funny short stories I recommend this book.

This was a little different to what I normally read.

But it was (a whole lot of) fun, (kind of) fascinating, (sort of) fantastic!

And freaking funny!

Featuring real people.

A send-up of the North-Korean Supreme Leader and his bestie Dennis Rodman aka Rocket Man and The Worm.

What a hoot!

Kim wants to go to space and his bestie begs to chaperone him.

Amusing behaviour (by Rocket Man and Worm) makes this hilariously funny.

Even funnier if Obama and Bill Clinton went along for the joy ride. I’m visualising a KaBoom! 😂😂

An excellent parody.

Very clever and creative.

Many thanks to the author, Yoel Bereket, for providing me with a free copy of in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you to the author for sharing his book with me. This short story portrays the North Korean leader as ‘bored’ with his life. The Generals around him devise a plan for him to rocket himself out of earth.

I enjoyed reading this quick story. I read Nothing to Envy a fee months ago and understand how evil this regiment has been and why as a society we would want these dictators to leave our earth.

2.4/5

I'd like to thank Mr. Bereket for providing me a free electronic copy of this in exchange for an honest review. I'd read his previous story, Dreidel to the Grave, which was an enjoyable action romp about a Jewish Nazi hunter searching for Hitler, who may have faked his own death.

Mr. Bereket's exploration of evil dictators continues here with Rocket Man, this time centered on Kim Jong-un of North Korea. He's extremely pampered, delusional, and childishly callous. Everyone hates him, both in real life and in this book, understandably so. Even the prose takes jabs at him, and why shouldn't it? The best parts of Rocket Man are the parts where everyone and everything takes potshots at him--everyone except Dennis Rodman, for some reason. It's an odd choice to combine the two, and I'll admit I know almost nothing about Rodman except for his eccentric hairstyle, he had a basketball career, and he appeared in that one Van Damme movie in the late 90's, early 2000's (which wasn't one of Van Damme's best, either).

I couldn't tell if this was written for kids or teens, as much of the humour is something I've seen and heard in dozens of kids movies, but the language and hints at darker things like public executions and abuse of power are somewhere around a PG-13 level. Team America, a movie I'm sure 95% of the world's population including Mr. Bereket has seen, parodied Kim's dad to mostly great effect (although I'm not the biggest fan of the movie myself). I was nonetheless reminded of Team America while I read this, albeit the humour was MUCH more subdued and kid-friendly than that was.

I found the writing in this to be a step down from Dreidel to the Grave, adding to my skepticism about the audience this is meant for. I feel like some of the darker things could have been explored more in-depth, with more time and pages spent on the scheming generals and the oppressed people, which I'm sure would've improved the humour and given the satire a lot more bite. As it currently stands, this was just okay for me.

An excellent super-subversive treat from Yoel Bereket (author of brilliant Dreidel to the Grave) – with loads of (laugh-out-loud) humour tempered only by your own all too dark and uncomfortable understanding that this actual state of the world really isn’t funny at all (and if you didn’t laugh, you honestly wouldn’t/couldn’t stop crying).

Believing he has created the perfect world (having cured polio, ended world hunger and created ‘global happiness’) and entirely oblivious to the actual abject poverty, starvation and all out misery his outrageous excesses continue to cause, Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un finds himself… bored. So much so that even his best bud Dennis (Rodman, no less) can’t shake him out of his depression.

The Superior Person’s put-upon generals, however, seek to be rid of him and so from their secret broom cupboard (they’re not safe anywhere else), engineer a celestial intervention to convince the Invincible and Triumphant Dear Leader to remove himself from, literally, the Earth: ‘Rocket Man’ is born; Master of the Universe is his destiny – and fun and games commence as world leaders and citizens alike wish the Young Lord ‘Good Riddance’ – which is, don’t you know (and as one of his generals explains), Swedish for ‘May Peace Be With You…’

Dreaming up a wild tale whose main characters include everyone’s favorite chubby North Korean dictator and a former NBA star who once wore a wedding dress is nothing new for this author. One of his previous books is about a Christmas revolt by Santa’s Bolshevik elves, so “Rocket Man” shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody. This is an enjoyable and rather breezy quick read that piles crazy on top of crazy like a weird kimchee kraut cake. It's a welcome respite from the world’s actual nutsy realities.

The story is this: Kim Jong Un, his spirits down and finding life as an absolute autocrat a bit boring, decides to literally leave planet Earth and head for outer space. His pal Dennis Rodman shows up and tries to convince Kim to let him tag along. Kim’s ordinarily loyal staff plans to use the the dictator’s absence to “reorganize things.”

Obama and Bill Clinton also make an appearance, along with the late Queen Elizabeth, who yaks up a wet loogie to show her distain for Emperor Kim.

You can’t make this stuff up. Oh wait…actually, you can.

Enjoy the ride.

Now who couldn’t use a fantastic short satire story?! I gotta tell you, this was hilarious! If you have a couple hours and need a good laugh, albeit at the expense of a dictator and his bestie, you should give this one a go. As a warning though, I don’t think this will be for everyone!

Kim Jong Un is bored and depressed. His bestie Dennis Rodman is trying to help him get out of his funk.. One evening, Kim has a dream, to become a great world leader. With his trusted friend Dennis and the world thinking this is a great idea (leaving the planet), Dennis helps Kim jet off into outer space to begin his exploits of taking over the world.

Thank you Yoel for sending this to me. Just like your previous book, Dreidel to the Grave, you wrote another fantastic story! I look forward to the next book about Rocket Man and his blunders!

A satirical take on Kim Jung Un. It was funny as the author tells us about Kim’s life. How he sacrifices so Korea can have statues and flags devoted to him for their happiness.
The story has an amusing take on the politics and nature of that government. There is a little slapstick humor. I think the author is trying to make a satirical point with former Presidents Obama and Clinton. I didn’t get what it was and I’m thankful. Other than villains we all hate, I don’t get the author’s political bent. Or maybe I’m happy not seeing it.
Anyway, for a short bit of humor on the world, this book is for you.

This short read is a snarky parody about North Korean leader Kim Jung-un and former NBA star Dennis Rodman. Kim decides he's accomplished everything he possibly can on Earth so decides it's time to become the Supreme Leader of the Universe. The activity around this egotistical display is where the fun is. If you are looking for some fast entertaining reading, give this one a try.

Rocket Man is a fun and quirky short story that follows the adventures of an unlikely duo, Kim Jung Un and Dennis Rodman. The story is a parody of real life events and Yoel seamlessly integrates slapstick comedy into Rocket Man's adventures. Yoel shows a lot of potential in this book and I'm looking forward to where his career takes him.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is my favorite thing Yoel Bereket has written. Satire that at times you can seriously see happening. 5 stars especially for the Queen Elizabeth moment.
