If you're a Sess/Rin fan I'd say yeah give Yashahime a go. Me personally, never saw that as a ship or rooted for it but I continued on with the anime because ~ the nostalgia~ and I also really enjoy Morohas character. They tweaked a few bits of the story from the anime to the manga, which to me was a good call. I think this will be fun for fans of the original series who don't mind seeing the OG's sitting on the sidelines or making infuriatingly enigmatic decisions in the background.

Perhaps because the story it's based on was a originally a manga, the manga version of Yashahime is a bit easier to enjoy than its source anime. It gives a better sense of who Towa is and how different she is from Moroha and Setsuna, and Takashi Shiina is much better with the monsters than his animator counterparts. It's still not as instantly good as Inu Yasha, but it feels much closer in spirit to Rumiko Takahashi's storytelling, making it the version to pick up if you're curious about Inu Yasha's sequel.

I am a huge fan of the Inuyasha series. I watched and read the books with my children. I loved all the characters and am so happy to see their children and a few original characters come back. This is the next generation, win this book focuses on Inuyasha and Kagome’s daughter. InuYasha and Kagame’s, Sesshomaru and Rin’s daughters (twins) were separated from their parents and then separated again with one living in the family temple where Kagome was raised. They are all finally united, now to find their parents because things are going to get bad.
I really enjoyed this version of the Inuyasha tale. The art was wonderful, these girls had a wonderful mix of both parents. The story fit with the past tale extremely well. I can’t wait to get book 2

This was an interesting start, it feels different and similar all at once. I like our main characters, Moroha, Towa and Setsuma. I still cringe at how Towa and Setsuma came to be though, it does very much give me the ick. When getting past that, I can appreciate the direction this story is going and it feels so nostalgic to dive back into this world. InuYasha, Vol. 1: Turning Back Time was one of the first manga that got me into reading manga and watching anime. I remember watching all the movies and greedily taking home all the volumes of the manga from my local library.

I love that this manga includes all of our familiar faces and is giving us a look into the after. It's funny that it seems like this is the path that we might see in many nostalgic series like Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Vol. 1: Uzumaki Boruto!!. I would like to see more of this! I am interested to continue on with with this series. It's got beautiful art from Shiina who has a deep appreciation for Rumiko Takahashi. Everything does seem to be happening super fast in this volume and I do find myself confused sometimes, hence I was left feeling more like, "Oh that's the first volume..." rather than, "What a great first volume!"

Hopefully, the series will leave more of an impression on me with subsequent volumes. As for now it was just such great experience coming back to this world, it would just be nice if this can stand on it's own without relying too much on Inuyasha.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

I have not seen the anime, but I have both read and watched Inuyasha in the past. I used to love the series, so I was very excited to read this manga.

This series follows Inuyasha/Kagome's daughter and Sesshōmaru/Rin's children as they make their way through the world in order to save their parents from some kind of demonic calamity.

I really like that they recap the events of the previous story in the beginning and give enough detail for me to recall the story and pick up from where this one is starting. I am still a bit confused about the conflict that's going on, though, but I assume that will become clearer as the story continues.

My conflict with this story is the fact that Sesshōmaru and Rin had children. Rin was a child during the Inuyasha series, so her growing up to marry Sesshōmaru leaves me feeling gross. Though I had seen it coming I am still very put off by it. I will not be reading the rest of the series because of this.

Well, that was a surprise, good, but surprising.
Thank you, VIZ Media and NetGalley, for granting me access to this Manga for my honest review!

I've been watching the anime, and I enjoy it, my friend got me into it because she loved the original series, and this is very close to the anime but with quite a few differences that I honestly prefer!
I love how the girls were raised, which is different in the show, and how different the history of what happened to separate them from their parents seems to be at the moment.

This review will be for the whole series; read at your own risk!

Read 1 volume

Inuyasha is one of my all-time favorite anime/mangas ever so I clearly had high hopes for Yashahime! And it really starts out with a bang. I love seeing all my favorite characters as adults and I’m so interested in seeing how the three girls do on their quest!

I was a hardcore SessRin shipper back in the day, so this also just made me so excited. I can’t wait to see the two again!

It’s no surprise that I rated this as I did, because I love Inuyasha with all of my heart, but I totally had to space save in my heart to make some room for THIS NEW, BRILLIANT, ADORABLE, & FIERCE story of Inuyasha’s child & SESSHŌMARU’s twins! And yes you read that right! My FAV SESSHŌMARU HAS TWINS! And his daughter Towa takes center stage!

OH BOY, DID I LOVE THIS! IT WAS A JOY!!!

Thank you to NetGalley and Viz Media for providing a digital copy of this volume in exchange for an honest review.

As a longtime fan of Inuyasha (both the anime and manga), I was beyond ecstatic to hear that it would be getting a sequel anime series that focused on a new generation, namely Inuyasha and Kagome's daughter Moroha. Unfortunately, like many others, I found that the anime was a severe disappointment and a poor addition to the legacy of the Inuyasha franchise.

The manga, on the other hand, breathes fresh life into the story where its predecessor failed. Though neither is written by Rumiko Takahashi herself, Shiina is able to capture the wonder and adventure of the original work while making it his own. The premise and themes are essentially the same as the Yashahime anime, but now the story is comprehensive instead of passing off poorly thought out concepts without any logical sense.

The main issue that I raise with the manga is that it still has to follow the basic outline of the anime. For example, the plot itself that Inuyasha and Kagome have gone missing and it is up to their daughter to find them. We had a happy ending with the original manga, but now that happiness has been uprooted to push a sequel series and is largely unfair to readers that rooted for the main couple through the entirety of Inuyasha. There is very little in between shown from the ending of Inuyasha to the start of Yashahime, when arguably, that is exactly what the fans wanted to see. The other issue is the parents of Setsuna and Towa are revealed to be Sesshomaru and Rin, his ward that was a young child in the original. Supposedly she is an adult now, but it still leaves an extremely uneasy feeling because she is still not out of her teens when she gave birth so there was very little room for them to "fall in love."

That all aside, the manga is still miles better than the anime. OG characters are done justice, actually feeling like their past selves instead of cardboard cutouts with little emotion. People now seem to care that Inuyasha and Kagome are missing when in the anime, they are hardly ever even mentioned and when they are, it is only in passing and with little regard for their well-being (Kagome's family is a HUGE example of this improvement). The animation in the anime is also notoriously terrible, but on the other hand, Shiina's manga, though different from Takahashi's style, is dynamic and oftentimes beautiful to look at.

As for the translation, I don't pretend to be fluent in Japanese, but even I knew there were several instances in the original Inuyasha manga that were so completely different from the source material that it was baffling. Yashahime does a better job with this, though after reading some fan translations, there are moments that don't have as much impact just because of the wording. But overall, it is much easier to understand when they drop plot details (especially since we're varying so far from the anime).

Overall, I'd give this 4/5 stars and do highly recommend anyone who has not yet watched Yashahime to just read the manga instead. I cannot wait to see where the story goes from here!

I did not know I needed this manga until I found it.

I was an unapologetic Inuyasha fan growing up. For years I would stay awake to hit the little red record button on my VCR so I could tape the episodes airing on YTV (#throwback), and then as an older and employed teenager I purchased the entire manga series with money that I maybe should have set aside for my RRSP contributions, but the heart wants what it wants. So imagine my utter surprise and delight to find a continuation/reimagining of the world I fell in love with a decade or so later. I was slightly skeptical as to how immersed and authentic it would feel, but I absolutely adore Shiina's spin on this classic. It was so much fun and inundated with numerous references to the original series. I mean...Takahashi enjoys it, so really who are the rest of us to have an opinion? Absolutely brilliant. I can't wait to continue the series.

Better than the anime

I highly enjoyed this first volume of this manga I really liked the slightly edited beginning. I really liked the characters especially Towa she is a great character she was interesting to read about looking forward to reading more. I also liked Moroha and Setsuna they both are similar to their parents I just liked reading about them. The plot was interesting it starts in the modern era with Towa and how she scares away friends she and her family are attacked and here is Setsuna and Moroha great introduction I am liking this series looking forward to where it goes from here.

I watch a little of the anime about a yearish ago and it was interesting so when I saw this in the store I decided to give it a shot since Inuyasha is one of my favorite manga. The little I remember of the anime was different to this, and I like the manga’s approach better so that works for me lol. Towa is an okay main character but I’m more so interested in Setsuna. I would also love to get more Sesshomaru he’s so hot 😅

Next generation of Inuyasha demon hunters. I. Am. THERE.

This could have gone horribly wrong and IMHO, it did not, so this reader was quite happy with it. YMMV of course, but I think this was worth a read and I will be continuing with the series.

4, I'm so glad this was good, stars.

Summary:

Towa has spent the last few years living in present-day Japan. In truth, it's all she can remember – literally. The days before her arrival are blank to her. She and her family know that there's something more going on with her sudden appearance, but until recently, they could only guess.

One day, that all changes. When Towa's twin sister (Setsuma) and her cousin come through the gate, hunting a monster. Now Towa has a choice. Stay home (safe), or follow. We all know which option she'll pick.

Review:

I've been tempted (but on the fence) about Yashahima for a while now. But I finally caved and dove into Yashahima: Princess Half-Demon Vol. 1. In truth, this experience was...mixed for me. There were parts I adored and parts I couldn't run away from fast enough.

Let's talk about the good first. Towa's character is pretty interesting all on her own (even in the present setting). Throw in the mystery of where her parents (and aunt/uncle) have gone, and you have plenty of reasons to invest in the series. I'll admit more than a passing curiosity about Setsuma and her subplot.

Admittedly, it did take me a little bit to get into the swing of things. By around the halfway mark, I was getting really into the story when it all came to a screeching halt for me. I'll just say it: I'm not a fan of who Towa's mother is. It feels far too much like grooming and puts a bad feeling over the whole series.

Highlights:
Time Travel
Supernatural
Twins
Secrets and Mysteries

Trigger Warnings:
Missing Family

Will I continue the series? Eh, probably not? I might check out the anime though.

I was a big fan of Inuyasha as a kid and loved the anime. A few years ago, I read the manga and found that I enjoyed the manga more as an adult than the anime.

When they announced a sequel anime, I was so excited. As the premiere drew near, I ended up not watching it.

When I found out that they were going to adapt a manga from the anime, I was once again excited but also apprehensive. This is also the first time I have ever heard of something like this happening. Generally, anime is adapted from the manga, instead of the other way around.

I started this today around the same time I was reading the first chapter of Wandering Witching. I finished the first chapter of this manga and felt more interested in the characters.

Towa is introduced as the daughter of Rin and Sesshomaru, somehow she was transported to the modern era and was adopted by Kagome's brother Sota and his wife when she was younger so she does not remember how she got to the modern era or what happens to her parents.

A demon later attacks her but she doesn't know how to fight. Two people show up to help. Towa twin sister, Setsuna and her cousin, Moroha, the daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome. Setsuna reminds me so much of Sesshomaru with her coldness but it turns out that she has been cursed and is only able to feel negative emotions. When the trip returns back to the feudal era, we meet a few characters from Inuyasha. How they are still alive is surprising but it is good to see them nonetheless.

Towa walks into a trap but is triggered by a memory of a burning building. And also remembers how she let go of someone's hands, as well as women who looked like her mother but were not.

They are told a few important information and decide to embark on a journey to save their parents.

Towards the end, I was so excited to find out what happens next. I really want to know more about Setsuna curse and how to break it.

I may have to start watching the anime to get some answers but in the meantime, I can't wait for the next volume.

Despite my excitement since the first whispers of its conception, I've been sleeping on Yashahime. Even then, I still find myself drawn toward the manga first, despite it not being the source material this time around. But it's hard to blame me for it with art so beautiful and alluring as this. Shiina-sensei does a service to the original series' art, especially by not trying to emulate it, but rather embracing it in his own style and capturing those feelings the original gave us and recreating them through his own language of art. Beyond the beautiful art, the story itself feels a lot like an RPG as well as a homage to the start to the original InuYasha. It's chock full of references to the original, additionally, we continue to see the same monsters that Kagome had seen around the same time and amount of exposure, even starting with that same centipede woman. One thing that did surprise me though is that for all this time, I thought Towa was a Prince, not a Princess. This is in fact about three Princesses! I was thoroughly shocked, though I still find Towa charming. New wave Utena Tenjou, perhaps..? It's also quite interesting that Moroha, the child of Kagome and InuYasha is in fact not the heroine this time around but rather a tritagonist, the tertiary main character, or perhaps she's more like one of two deuteragonists. But yes, I thoroughly enjoyed all the homage to everything the original characters saw (even the corpse controlling crows and the unmothers which were used in peculiar ways this time around). I find the new elements as well to be interesting and I hope that this story has just a happy ending as the original did.

5/5

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon is a manga series that is actually being produced AFTER it’s respective anime. Though it is Rumiko Takahashi’s beloved world and characters, the task of creating the manga actually goes to Takashi Shiina.

[Enter sigh of contentment here] Its like coming home after 5 long years at sea. Inuyasha and Takahashi’s story has and always will be one of my favourite franchises. I grew up on it and I’m so happy that it has continued to make an impact on the world. I kid you not I squealed when I first heard of the anime, so when I learned there was a manga I jumped on the chance to read it as well. I cannot say this enough but Inuyasha is just ingrained in the very being of my person. But anyway, on to the review!

Shiina does a really good job of keeping the feeling of Takahashi’s world and characters alive while also adding some of his own flair to the story and the art. I’m really impressed by his creation. The art style is different from Takahashi’s original mangas but Shiina’s art does a great job of portraying the world and characters.

I did read an electronic copy, and I’m not sure if it was a scanner problem or file problem, but the version I read was a little pixelated. But I’m sure that will be fixed in the physical form (which I will be purchasing as soon as I can).

I literally have nothing bad to say about this manga. I loved it and I cannot wait to continue reading its serialization.

This is a worthy successor to the Inu Yasha series (as well as to Rumiko Takahashi). Shiina has captured the spirit of Takahashi's work while also bringing his own flavor to the series. This is more homage to Takahashi than substitute - adding a nice dimension to a strong collaboration and not feeling repetitive or diluted.

Story: The daughters of InuYasha/Kagame and Sesshomaru/Rin have been separated from their parents - and even from each other through time. They will need to reunite to find their parents and stop a coming demon apocalypse.

The story is fairly straightforward for manga/anime: power up through fights and learn to master hidden abilities and talents. Even in this first volume, it is clear where the author(s) will take the story from here. I have not seen the anime this is based on but I can say that the manga so far is solid. It feels like a Takahashi work without being derivative. Shiina has done a great job channeling his idol.

In all, I think fans of InuYasha will enjoy this new foray into the lives of those characters. There is plenty of mystery and development to be had. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Just as a precursor to my review, I have never seen the Yashahime anime, though I did read the original InuYasha manga. I'm mixed about this manga. I feel like if I was going into this without having read InuYasha, I would probably like it more. This new series tries to cater both to people who never read InuYasha and people who have. So it feels weird when they explain basic plot details that readers of InuYasha already know. It makes you a bit impatient because they stop with the plot to explain all of these already-known facts about the world. The plot itself is...fine. It's enjoyable to read, but I'm going to completely be honest, it reads like fan doujin. Not in a bad way! It reads like a fan doujin that would have been super popular in the fandom during the early 2000s. It's just jarring because this is an official sequel to the original manga, but it honest to goodness feels like I'm reading a fan doujin filled with someone's OCs. I find the choice of making one of the sisters completely unaware of how the world of the Feudal Era functions interesting. She's obviously supposed to be the character whom the reader who is new to the franchise sees the world through. Some plot points made me raise an eyebrow because it felt like they didn't know what to do, so they just lifted plot beats from the original manga. It was an entertaining read for sure, but I'm still unsure if I'm liking this sequel or not.

Ahhhh, this was really fun! Inuyasha was one of my first manga series when I was in middle school/junior high, and to see that it’s come to the point of a new generation is really heartwarming. I’m glad people still love this cast of fools, haha.

Yashahime is interesting in that it was an anime before it became a manga, according to the interview in the back of this volume. I myself haven’t watched the show (yet), so I don’t know how they differ, but I enjoyed this! It was fun meeting the new cast of characters and learning about themthere’s enough mystery to make you want to read more: for example, when I first heard that this show existed but the main cast wasn’t in it, I remember thinking there was no way Inuyasha and Sesshoumaru would be absent parents after what they went through with their own parents, so why weren’t they around? Well, now I know!

The art style is noticeably different from the original, but that’s to be expected with a new person drawing the panels. It’s a pretty faithful representation, though!

I’ll definitely be keeping my eye out for the next volume.

PS, the fact that every girl in Towa’s class has a crush on her…love it, I have a crush on her too, she’s so cool.

Yashahime: Princess Half-Demons follows the daughters of both Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, Moroha, - the quarter-demon, - and half-demon twins, Towa and Setsuna. On a fateful night, these three girls were separated and eventually reunited. The girls are then tasked by the tree of ages, to find their parents and heal a rift in time. AND I CAN’T GET OVER HOW BEAUTIFUL THE ART STYLE IS! It’s also aesthetically pleasing to me too. I can go on and on about how great the art is and all the panels I loved seeing, but I can also go on about how much I prefer the manga over than the anime.

Aspects of Towa and Setsuna are expanded on; not a whole lot, but enough to make me like them a lot more. There is also more of a relationship between Moroha and Setsuna that’s cool. As for the plot, it seems to be more or less the same, but with changes here and there that make the story more engaging. I’m not trying to dog pile on the anime, - I really did like it, - but I’m just kind of confused as to why we didn’t get any of this in the anime, you know? That being said, this is only the first volume so I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of it.

Also, WHY in the hell is Konton so hot? XD And he seems to be mostly loyal to Zero too, rather than Kirinmaru. See, it’s those little changes that have made me invested already.

I watched the yashahime anime first after learning about it, dying to relive some childhood memories. The anime had some high points but was overall not superb. I’m really glad I discovered the manga adaptation because it had much of what the anime was missing: more interesting storylines and character development. I also liked the direction the manga took the story rather than the more bizarre backstory of the anime adaptation.

Yashahime follows the three half-demon princesses: Moroha, daughter of Kagome and Inuyasha, and Towa and Setsuna, twin daughters or Sesshomaru and Rin. Towa was living in the modern era and gets returned to her cousin and sister in the feudal era. This volume introduces the characters and starts the storyline of how the girls became separated and what happened to their parents.

I enjoyed this volume and will definitely keep up with it, the story time seems way more promising than the anime adaptation and it seems like there will be more backstory to the relationships which is great.

Inuysha as been one of my fave anime. So when I heard they were doing a sequel I was really happy. So far we had two seasons. The plot is done and there's no words of a third season unfortunatly. Not that I know anyway. But we now have a first manga.

So the story starts about 18 years later, Towa lives in the present with Sota, Kagome's younger brother, his wife and daughter, his mother and grandfather. Towa is different from others just in look like her hair and eyes, but she's also much agile. At one point the shrine get attack by a demon and she does as she can to fight. Two other girls show up, Moroha and Setsuna. They fight up the demon and a portal open up a the three of ages. Going back to the feudal era, Towa learn a bit more about her birth parents, but all of the three girls have little memories of what have happen all those years ago when they got separate and how Towa ends up in the present. So after the village got attack, they will leave on a journey to find them.

A notice there's some difference from the anime and the manga. Like what got Towa and Setsuna to get separate. But I really like to manga and cannot wait to be able to read the second one.

"Oh, you know my mom and dad?"

Did I read this manga for the OG Cast glow up? <_<

description

Let me begin by stating that I have never been more attracted to manga characters in my entire life. Seriously, this manga is worth buying for the 5/5 star art alone. The artist looked at the OG cast and said, "Glow 'em up boys!" AND LET ME TELL YOU!

Pretty Boy Inuyasha can have my heart any day he wants (will add photo later).
Or mister priest boy... >_> No wonder why he had a ton of chicks (Be honest, he definitely has undisclosed children we'll meet later in this series based on his actions from Inuyasha lol).
description

Point being the art is nothing short of gorgeous and absolutely breathtaking. Additionally, a lot of the humor hit hard, like when Kagome's little brother discovered she had a child with her "doggie demon boyfriend" (I can't make this up)... like honey, it happens. XD

Seriously don't just take my word for it, visit your local library or bookstore and borrow/buy it yourself.

Inuyasha is my dude. That was my show, since the moment I first saw it on Adult Swim back in the halcyon days of my millenial teenagedom. I'm old now, but still love it. (Sad confession, though, I've never read the manga! But I want them all, and badly, lol.) So when this sequel was first announced a few years ago, I was stupid excited. Got my kid into Inuyasha, then we watched the Yashahime anime, and then when he recently asked for the mangas, I had to say yes. The kid doesn't often ask for books, or read voluntarily, so, yea, I'ma jump on the chance if he wants to! xD But, side affect for him is that now I get to borrow and read them too :D

Ok, kicking myself now for not just ordering them all in one go, because I want to keep reading, but the next couple volumes won't be here til Monday... sigh...

Really like the art style here, a lil more 'pretty', or elegant, or refined looking, whatever the heck word I'm looking for there, than the anime. Also, kinda digging the small differences between book and anime. Makes it even more interesting, because it's not just a repeat, paper version of what I've already seen, but a lil different. So, it's like I'm not exactly knowing everything that is going to happen.

Hurry up Monday so I can read #2, 3, and 4!

Essential for fans of Inuyasha. But I would not say Inuyasha is required to enjoy this.
I have a passing familiarity with the Inuyasha anime but never read the manga. I still enjoyed this volume.
In this volume we get introduced to the three girls. Things move at a pretty quick pace which is where some Inuyasha knowledge would be helpful.
We see how Towa was separated from the other two girls and transported to the modern era. But our time in the modern era catching up with familiar characters is brief and the other two girls show up and drag Towa into the Fuedal era. The backstory of the girls is revealed, they have a quick fight with demons, and then the three are on their way to find their parents.
As I said earlier, I enjoyed this volume for the fantasy subject and link to a good earlier series. The volume definitely moved fast and could have slowed some to savor the reintroduction to this world.
I think this series will be perfect for young girls. I received a free copy through Goodreads' giveaway program.

Towa's appearance set her apart in the human world. While some fangirl over her exotic looks, some wonder about it. It's hard for her to make friends... and there's the bit about being able to see demons and spirits. When Towa invites a middle school fangirl to the shrine after dark... the girl thinks she's the one who got through all Towa's defenses. But when the girl arrives, Towa admits that she lured her there for an exorcism. Things get a little messy when a centipede spirit emerges. Two realms collide when Towa's twin sister Setsuna and her cousin Moroha emerge from a tree. Can Towa survive in this other realm and help her sister and cousin find their parents? Read on to find out!

I really liked the premise of twins separated at a young age and reunited after 10 years apart in different worlds.
There's a flea for comedic relief and I don't usually like bugs, but I liked this one.
All three main characters are kick ass females - and I LOVE it.

The story started in the much beloved Inuyasha series continues…

This series follows the the daughters of half-brothers Sesshomaru and Inuyasha as the girls embark a journey to realize their own powers and assist their half-demon parents.

Towa and Setsuna are the twin daughters of Sesshomaru and Rin while Moroha is the only daughter of Inuyasha and Kogame. The girls have, unfortunately, spent most of their younger years separated from each other due to the machinations of demons trying to get at their parents.

Now reunited, the girls must uncover not only what happened in their family’s past to separate them but also discover a way to break the curses keeping them from reuniting together.

Definitely a fun read for fans of the main series! It’s an interesting start so far and I’m looking forward to reading more~
