The bullied second son of the Alpha, Nolen, just turned thirteen when his brother Archer is attacked and killed by an enemy pack—making him the next heir of the Rhyolite Pack. Forcing him from his family to an allied pack for training.
He returns a few days before his eighteenth birthday back to his home to shift for the first time. He finds his mate but due to a law, he cannot confront her. Three years later, misfortunes await him when the enemy pack that killed his brother challenges the pack again. His parents taken prisoner, Nolen must now try to find a way to become stronger to save his pack from the enemy alpha.
Will he be able to regain his pack and take his Luna? Or will his destiny be robbed of him?
I have been writing since I was 14 but never finished the books that I had started. Silver Moon Kiss was my first and it is currently being rewritten and I'm excited that it will be released next year.
The Second Alpha Heir is my first self-published book. It is due to be released on June 14th with both E-book and Paperback.
I am a wife and mother of 3 with 5 German Shorthair pointers and I'm also hoping to get into Nursing school. I like to hunt and watch my kids grow up into the people that I know they can be.
Such a sweet nerd turned alpha story! The whole time I was reading this novel, all I could do was root for Nolen, especially when the weight of the world seemingly rested on his shoulders. I have always been a sucker for the underdog, and really enjoyed getting to know Nolen, and Amora, along with Sawyer, Beta Adam, and the rest of their packs. The author does well to bring us into their world, and get to know the characters, although, I did feel a couple of things were overdone in the description department, or repetitiveness of information, which took away from the story.
There was lots of action, romantic suspense, and suspense in general that allowed for the reader to get immersed in the pages, especially if novels of a paranormal variety are your cup of tea. I do love the connection that is built between Nolen and his deceased brother, Archer. It’s a very neat concept and one that ties nicely into the story! I do look forward to reading more by this author, and think it’s well worth a read if you’re in the mood for some werewolf action!
What happens when the scrawny bullied son of an alpha suddenly becomes the next future Alpha?
Nolen grew up as the shadow to his older brother Archer. He wasn't the favorite of his pack yet he knew that someday his brother would make a great Alpha to their pack. That is until fate intervenes with the death of the future alpha by an enemy pack. Now Nolen is the future alpha.
Nolen is determined to make his late brother and pack proud to call him Alpha when the time comes. Sent away to an allied pack to train until just before his 18th birthday so he can return home for his first shift.
The past returns to haunt Nolen again by once more going after his pack. With his parents as prisoners will he be able to save his pack? Claim his Luna? Or will he join his brother in death?
This was an exciting read that is not the run of the mill werewolf tale. The underdog takes the spotlights and as the reader you go through it with him. Wonderful read!
I did not enjoy this book as much as I expected to, however that is mostly my own doing. I didn’t pay enough attention to the categories this book is listed under and missed the fact that it’s a coming-of-age story (and probably could have surmised that from the blurb, but didn’t for some reason). Those are not my usual reads. In addition to that, it’s under a romance category, but it’s definitely more of a love story due to how things play out (which isn’t really clear by reading the book description). I don’t usually read those either. The writing style took a little getting used to as well.
That being said, if coming-of-age and love stories are your thing, you’ll likely enjoy this book very much. I like the overall concept of the book and the author did a great job of creating the characters. The world building was also great. You will experience many different emotions while reading this, and the tension keeps things interesting.
This story lined up so unlike many other shifter stories. I loved the different take on things and the HEA. I'm a sucker for a good pnr and this one was great
Wasn't expecting the emotions this brought out of me
I was fine till the end. And not to give anything away but it says something that a reader can feel the sorrow of a character. Wasn't ready to say goodbye to the characters in this book.
Nolan is the second son of the Alpha. He was smaller than most of the boys in the pack. And since his older brother Archer would become the next pack leader, he just did what he wanted to do. Then his life is turned around when a mission goes wrong, and Archer is murdered. Nolan is now next in line to become the Alpha, even if that is far from what he wanted. He is sent to spend time with another pack to train rigorously for a few years until his eighteenth birthday, when he can finally shift into his werewolf form and soon after, claim his title. On top of the shift, Nolan is not so patiently waiting to find his mate. While training with the other pack, he becomes best friends with the Alpha’s son, Sawyer. Sawyer doesn’t see Nolan as a small and weak man. He treats him with respect and tries to better him in every way. Sawyer’s little sister Amora has also become a good friend to him. Between him and Sawyer, they don’t let anyone bully her. The boys are becoming stronger, faster, and smarter. They are doing what needs to be done in order to rule over their packs in the best way possible. This book is full of action, thrills friendship, twists, and even romance.
Do you like werewolves? Love fated mates with a slow burn romance, mysterious prophecies and the glow up of an underdog (ahem... wolf)? Me too! This book is for you. Nolen starts off as the little brother of the next Alpha that's bullied by his pack because he's small and appears to be weak. When his brother Archer is killed the title of next Alpha falls to Nolen and he is sent off to train with the wolves of an ally pack. As the reader, we get to follow along as Nolen's strength is tested and he matures into the alpha wolf he is supposed to be. This story is told by two separate point of views and the other narrator is Amora, the ally pack's alpha's daughter. She is drawn to Nolen from the day he arrives and sees in him everything she wants as they grow up together. As Amora's older brother Sawyer and Nolen become great friends as time carries on, she struggles to reign in her emotions and keep her feelings a secret. I enjoyed the characters and the whole world of this book. This story spans a lot of years which was surprising for how short it was. Despite it being short in pages, it is filled with adventure and really does feel quite complete all on its own.
The Second Alpha Heir is the debut novel by C.L. Ledford. It is a captivating paranormal romance with werewolves, magic, werewolf law/politics, danger, action, threats, drama, fated mates, chemistry, tension, destiny, friendship, family, self-discovery, spirit, determination, love, and loss. Ms. Ledford proves to be a talented storyteller who weaves a story full of clever and creative touches- spinning a great story with superb world-building and her own original take on vampire lore. Nolan was such a great character- I found myself connecting with him right from the beginning and was soon completely invested in him and the outcome of his story. With the death of his brother, Nolan’s world turned upside down. He was the second son, not meant to lead their pack. But now, with the death of his brother, responsibility is thrust upon him. He is so young, but duty waits for no one. And so his adventures begins. Add in a ‘fated mates’ component, threats from a rival pack, his parents capture, and the safety of his entire pack at risk- and things get pretty intense. Looking forward to more from C.L. Ledford… Happy Reading!
This is the first book I've read by the author. The Second Alpha Heir is an amazing read. It will have you crying at the end. Have tissues ready because you will need them.
Nolen is the second born son of the Alpha of his pack. He's not tall and strong like his brother is and he sure isn't as popular. When his brother dies he is the one who is next in line for the Alpha. He does meet his mate, but can't tell her as she isn't of age. The quote I chose for Nolen is: “You are one amazing person. I could never forget coming to your pack; my life changed so much when I lived there.”
Amora is the daughter of another Alpha and she's part of the pack that trains Nolen. She has a crush on him and is hurt to know that when he becomes of age he'll find his mate. When she learns that he's met his mate she is shocked. The quote I chose for Amora is: “Let’s head down then. The pack is waiting for us.”
Highly recommended for Werewolf Paranormal lovers.
A very interesting book that was full of intrigue all on its own! I loved reading this one, as I love my shape shifter books and how each one varies in what it brings. This one was very special in the sense it brought a wide range of plot and character development, I very much enjoyed it!
I enjoyed reading this one, as we follow Nolen and his story. He alone had a lot of character development. From what he started as and what he ended as. I felt for him, he had rights that were being taken form him, and he had to fight and prove. I find as humans we constantly must do that through out life. So that greatly appealed to me. The story all in all captivated me immensely, and I very much enjoyed reading this book plus the author’s writing style was fantastic! Loved it!
Amazing book for all it brought to us as the reader. I could not put this one down! I was hooked and held there till completion! Loved it! Highly recommend this must-read book!
A story that finally gives a refreshing twist on the usual trope of the werewolf tale, adding not only a touch of magic that feels believable but also structure with the clans, the wolf laws, and the pack dynamic that gave this an old-world feel and captured me immediately. It is too easy to fall in love with Nolen as he finds himself mourning the loss of his brother, the true heir of the pack, but he knows he must rise to the challenge and do his best to become a leader his brother would be proud of. Along the way he finds true friendship, his own strength he thought was lacking, and a deep love that propels the plot and had me fully invested. I love the action, the scene building, and the character complexity. The author did an amazing job and has me eager for her next one. A story that will have your heart invested from the first page. I highly recommend.
The Second Alpha Heir is CL’s first self-published book and a great tale. It is a shifter paranormal fantasy romance story and one that I thoroughly enjoyed. The world building, the plot and the characterisation that CL has created is a little different than the norm and it makes for a refreshing read. I found myself fully immersed in this new world because of her storytelling. With action and magic, fear and danger, hope and longing the story will keep you on your toes.
Nolen wasn’t meant to be more than he was but circumstances see to it that he must now take on more than he imagined at his young age. Now he must find the courage and a new found faith in himself to pull this off. With his new friendships his must fight for what is his.
Reading The Second Alpha Heir by C.L. Ledford was a wonderful experience that, given the choice, I would have had in a single afternoon; alas, I was forced to put it down and come back. The world we are brought into is enough like other books in the genre to be easily understood while being unique enough to provide interesting twists to the story.
The main character, Nolen, is kind and considerate due to unfortunate circumstances in his history. The book takes us on an adventure though his teen years and young adult life but provides insights into his past and glimpses of the future. The love story is a subtle, slow-burn that had me cheering for the characters.
If you're looking for a story with well-thought-out characters, a soft romance, and an intriguing plot - then this book is for you!
This story keeps you truly hooked. Being born the second son of the Alpha and Luna of the Rhyolite pack proves to be harder than anyone would expect. Being smaller than others and second born means Nolen is picked on and bullied, ignored and left out until tragedy finds the pack and he is thrust into the alpha in training role. Will the pack think more of him when he returns from his years of training, a grown man ready to assume his rightful position? Nolen has made a family unit out of the alpha family of the Quartzite pack where he was sent for his training: Sawyer alpha in training and his sister Amora. He also finds his wolf years before he should, and this brings a twist to the story and links to the past. This page turning story takes you through the trials and tribulations as these young wolves mature find and move on with their fated mates.
This book captured my attention from the very beginning! I was expecting your typical shifter romance, but was pleasantly surprised by the depth of the story. C. L. Ledford pulls you right in to the emotional roller coaster of the story when the oldest son of the Alpha, and brother of the main character, Archer is killed. This story follows the second son, Nolen, as he begins training to become Alpha. The Second Alpha Heir is full of ups and downs, and so many emotions as Nolen navigates training, growing up, and finally shifting and finding his mate. C. L. Ledford delivers a wonderfully imaginative and descriptive story along with captivating characters that you'll just fall in love with! I can't wait to read more books by C. L. Ledford.
Nolen never planned to be Alpha, he was the brother to the future Alpha and was always in his shadow. Nolen knew he was loved by his parents but he was scrawny, bullied, and never a candidate until the day he was. Now he is the heir of the Ryholite Pack and has to be trained at a fast speed. He will do his duty with honor but the pack who always looked down on him, will they be able to accept him?
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the fact that the author took time to give us an insight into training to be Alpha. There is so much more to this story that happens and I really was pulled in reading about Nolen and how he comes to terms with his future. Would definitely read more by this author.
Normally I am NOT a fan of slow burn romances but this one was soooo good. I absolutely adore Nolan. I’m so used to reading about alphas that are badass/self assured (if not cocky) but Nolan was so refreshing with his doubts and insecurities. It really made it easier for me to empathize with his character. Sawyer? Another favorite character! The author really created a world that I could immerse myself into and wished that it was real. This was a great shifter book- with new takes on classic tropes- and this cover is *fans self.* Definitely gonna recommend this to my friends that like shifter novels!
This is the first book that I have read from this author, and this book quickly became of my favorites. I literally was not able to put this book down long enough to eat, I had to read this entire thing in one go. This is a nerd turned alpha situation of a story. If you are into books where the underdog bullied nerd becomes the hero, this is the story for you. The way the author had written this story is like you are feeling everything the character is feeling and seeing. The heartbreaks, challenges, and how the character overcomes everything that is thrown his way. I really recommend this story for everyone. I can't wait to see what else this author has instore for future books.
This was a really good read, found it quite refreshing to read about an alpha who isn’t quite sure of himself and watch him grow into a capable alpha. Nolen is such a likeable character. He connects with his inner wolf early due to an altercation with some enemies. Sarge is such a cool character- love his interactions with Nolen. I enjoyed reading about how Nolen is able to discover his true worth, form friendships and find love. Loved it, highly recommended
I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
Omg i really enjoyed this story by C.L. Ledford was really well written, a real page turner pulls you right in. Nolen was treated like crap for years. When his brother was attacked and killed. He suddenly becomes the next alpha and his life goes through a lot of ups and downs before getting to his HEA with Amora. Looking forward to reading more books by this author. Highly recommend reading this.
I finished this book in just a few hours it was that good! Nolen was the second alpha heir in his family, and he was bullied because of that. His brother ends up killed when Nolen was only a teen. From there on out, he trained to be an alpha next to his friend Sawyer! The story goes from there and it's so exciting! Please read this book! You won't regret it!
I love shifter stories and this one was right up my alley. I loved that it was just a bit different than others I have read. It's a story of the struggle Nolen faces after his brother was killed and he is expected to become the next alpha and find his mate. I fell in love with the main characters and was very glad to see Nolen's self confidence grow with him. Overall, highly recommend this book!
Really enjoyed this book. Most of the time a book does not draw my attention enough to complete it but that was definitely not the case for this book I was able to finish the whole book! Can’t wait to read more from this author!
Nolen, the second heir to be Alpha, must join an allied clan after the untimely death of his brother. After 5 long years of training and mourning, he returns home and finds his mate but she’s just out of his reach. Great book, hoping for several more.
Enjoyed this book , it was captivating . Each chapter drew me in further. I didn't want to put it down . What a great read .This young new author has a great future in front of her.
This was a great story. Found myself totally immersed in the story and couldn’t put it down. I loved the characters and plot. The only thing I didn’t like was the end. I feel like there was a better spot to leave the story and wished the author wouldn’t of taken the ending too much into the future. I was happy then ended feeling sad. It’s still a great story just wished I would of left the book with a more happy feeling.
I very much loved this coming of age story. The story was solid from beginning to end although I would have like it to end a bit sooner because it left me with a sad lol. One less star than it could have had because it could really use some editing. Lots of passive voice and dangling participles.
An underrated author! Her work speaks for itself. The emotions that Nolen’s story brings out and how it plays out is simply so satisfying. Watch out because the shifter world has an amazing story teller and her name is C.L. Ledford. Can’t wait for more.
Another great read from C L Ledford. You cannot always have what you wish for and HEA is overrated. C L gives you all the feelings in this book. I can only recommend you read the first five, four pages and you will be hooked. Nolan is the younger brother trying to prove himself but there are many huge obstacles in his way! I love you CL and feel so blessed that I picked up Alpha Moon Kiss, fell in love with your writing and found myself here!
Absolutely loved the story I couldn’t put it down . I was rooting for Nolan from the first paragraph. I think everyone who loves shifter wolves should def read this 💯❤️❤️❤️
