Inside Out: Train Your Mind and Nerve Like a Champion

Rate this book
In any high-pressure environment, from special operations to the operating theatre, you can divide people into two groups - those who control their performance from the inside out, and those whose performance is controlled from the outside in.

In INSIDE OUT, Charlie Unwin, one of the world's leading performance psychologists, explains the techniques that enable the elite to perform at their best under immense pressure. It reveals how they think, prepare and perform, taking you inside the highly unpredictable modern battlefield, the chaos of the catwalk, the operating theatre, the stadium, the maximum-security prison and the opera house.

Whatever the challenge, whether life-or-death, or simply chasing a promotion at work, we are all susceptible to becoming 'outside in' - when you start paying more attention to the thought of not messing up than the process of doing something well. The 'Inside Out' method helps you gain control so that you can have a greater impact. It's about mindset, learning new skills, maintaining confidence and sustaining great results over time.

Packed with inspirational stories, easy-to-follow steps and mental training exercises informed by Charlie's award-winning research into the performance mindset, INSIDE OUT will help you realize your potential and lead a more successful and fulfilling life.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC.

Inside Out Train Your Mind and Nerve Like a Champion by Charlie Unwin is a fascinating and practical guide to mastering the art of performance under pressure. Drawing from his own experience as a former soldier, athlete, and performance psychologist, Unwin reveals the secrets of the elite performers who can control their performance from the inside out, rather than being controlled by external factors.

The book is divided into three parts, each focusing on one of the dimensions that shape our inner world: the Thinking Dimension, the Feeling Dimension, and the Intuitive Dimension. Unwin explains how each dimension affects our performance, and provides tools and exercises to train and optimize them. He also shares inspiring stories and examples from various domains, such as the military, sports, medicine, law, music, and finance, to illustrate how the Inside Out method can be applied to any challenge.

The book is well-written, engaging, and easy to follow. Unwin uses clear and simple language, and avoids jargon and technical terms. He also provides summaries and key points at the end of each chapter, as well as a comprehensive appendix with additional resources and references. The book is suitable for anyone who wants to improve their performance, confidence, and resilience in any high-pressure situation, whether it is a life-or-death scenario, a career opportunity, or a personal goal.

Inside Out Train Your Mind and Nerve Like a Champion by Charlie Unwin is a must-read for anyone who wants to learn how to perform at their best when it matters the most. It is a book that will change the way you think, feel, and act, and help you achieve your full potential.

Excellent info and advice included here. I've read too much to glean anything new here, but I found lots of great reminders. This is solid information with approaches that will help virtually anyone. I also enjoyed the lack of fluff/filler. Recommended.

I really appreciate the free ARC for review!!

I really like the way this book has you focus on things you can control. Things within your circle. I also like the notion that key moments in sports should be looked at with excitement and not fear.
