Frontier Matches #2

Her Frontier Sweethearts

Rate this book
Ciara O’Rourke learned to bake sweet treats from the best, her older sister. Now determined to step out on her own, she agrees to start the first cookhouse at Wallin Landing, a tiny settlement north of frontier Seattle. But nothing goes as planned, from the local loggers, who seem more interested in courting than being paying customers, to the baby who’s thrust into her arms by a stranger who rides off whispering warnings.

Kit Weatherly sailed away from his controlling family on a tea clipper to explore the world. He’s since found a true family in the Wallin Landing logging crew. That is, until the pretty new cook informs him he’s uncle to a niece he never knew he had! One look in little Grace’s face, and Kit knows he’ll do anything to protect her. And one taste of Ciara’s cooking has him wondering what he’d have to do to convince her to take a chance on them both.

If you like warm, witty historical romances with intelligent heroines, dashing heroes, and well-researched historical details, then you’ll love this frontier romance by an award-winning author.

Regina Scott started writing novels in the third grade. Thankfully for literature as we know it, she didn’t actually sell her first novel until she had learned a bit more about writing. Since her first Regency romance was published in 1998, her stories have traveled the globe, with translations in many languages including Dutch, German, Italian, and Portuguese. She is now the author of more than 50 works of warm, witty historical romance.

She and her husband of 30 years reside in Washington State on the way to Mt. Rainier. Regina Scott has driven four in hand, learned to fence, sailed on a tall ship, and dressed as a Regency dandy, all in the name of research, of course. Sometimes a character resonates with me as a reader. Maybe it’s something I have faced, or perhaps it’s just an emotion, but I am drawn in strongly. That’s the case with this novel set in the fictional Wallin Landing, near frontier Seattle in the 1870s. While this Frontier Matches series is a continuation of an earlier series, it is not necessary to have read them first, but for those of us who have, it’s a lovely visit with friends, old and new.

The main characters in this story are quite alike—they are able to see the good in others, but struggle to recognize their own value. That’s not because of any past mistakes, however, and this was a different take on characters who struggle with self-esteem, even when they excel at various activities. It was relatable in both instances, and I loved how Kit and Ciara were able to help each other be the best, and see the best, that they could.

I also loved the idea of carving out a life in a place that is sometimes scary. I can certainly sympathize with feeling entirely out of my depth, but nevertheless marching forward because the dream is more important than the obstacles. Staying aware of potential danger is good, but finding the beauty in the unfamiliar is just as important to a life well lived.

Whether it is set in an alternate history or the real past, in England or the US, Regina Scott writes novels that are peopled with relatable characters in realistic situations. Romantic but clean and suitable for young teens and up, I highly recommend this entire series, as well as anything else this author writes!

I received a review copy of this book from the author but was not required to write a positive review. The opinions expressed are both honest and my own.

Loved this sweet historical romance! Mount Rainier and its surrounding area are absolutely gorgeous. Regina Scott beautifully captures this setting in a heartwarming must read western set in 1876 in a small settlement outside of Seattle. It’s a fake engagement, unexpected guardianship love story with some really endearing characters.

Ciara O’Rourke has something to prove. She wants to get out from under her older sister’s shadow. She’s traveling to Wallin Landing to cook for a few of the local loggers with the hope of opening her own restaurant. Love is definitely not in her plans, even though loggers outnumber women 8 to 1. When an unexpected baby is put in her charge, she has an even more pressing mission, find the baby’s father.

Kit Weatherly feels like a disappointment, especially to the wealthy older sister who raised him. He’s flitted from job to job trying to find his place. Working as a logger in Wallin Landing finally feels like home. When his sister and brother-in-law pass away, he unexpectedly becomes the guardian of a sweet little girl whose favorite word is “no.” Caring for a baby girl is outside his comfort zone and he depends on Ciara to teach him how to care for her. Neither one is looking for love, but when the baby’s grandmother threatens to take custody of Grace, Ciara pretends to be his fiancé to help prove Kit’s the better guardian. But, Grace’s grandmother won’t give up so easily.

I loved the characters in this story. In addition to Ciara’s and Kit’s enjoyable slow burn romance, are some lovable side characters who make up this small community. There are a couple of loggers who try to woo Ciara who you can’t help but like, and Katie Jo raised by a tough uncle who wants to learn to be more feminine. The community is welcoming, friendly, and I loved spending time with them. There’s also some nasty villains and a threatening lynx. I recommend not reading while hungry though, because there’re delicious descriptions of food throughout.

Highly recommend to Western and historical romance readers. Though it’s part of a series, it can definitely be read as a standalone. I’m excited to go back and read the first book in the series, and am looking forward to Harry and Katie’s stories. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

Endearing story of the wilderness near Seattle. Ciara wants to prove to herself that she can be a cook for three loggers at Wallins Landing. She hopes to establish a restaurant and be independent. Kit Weatherly becomes an instant father when his siter and her husband die, leaving him custody of baby Grace. Ms. Scott captures Grace perfectly as a baby barely getting around by herself and whose only words are No, no, no no no!
There are villains who want to kidnap Grace and dangers from wild animals. And where ther3 ar3 more men than women, there are sure to be suitors at every turn!
This story was so interesting. It kept me turning pages to see the outcome. Very enjoyable. Now to anticipate the story of Katie Jo in the next book and catch up on the romances from the previous books.

Her Frontier Sweethearts is book two in the Frontier Matches series, which comes after and is related to the Frontier Bachelors series. This story can definitely be read and enjoyed on its own. However, if you like finding books that are connected and enjoy seeing characters reappear over the years in subsequent novels, then I would highly recommend these two wonderful series.

Ciara and Kit were characters that I really liked. Ciara wanted to establish herself as a restaurant owner in the small town of Wallin’s Landing. It was a chance to get out from under her sister’s shadow. Kit was a man who was good at many things, yet never felt settled or very accomplished at any one thing. He carried a lot of self doubt.

I really liked the way Ciara and Kit worked together for the good of baby Grace from almost the very beginning of the story. And baby Grace was such a cute little bit of humor throughout the novel with the word that she was so fond of repeating.

This was a sweet addition to the series and I look forward to reading the next book about Katie Jo.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I've gotten hooked on this series. Scott's books barely take a break from one to the other, and I want to know what happens to all the characters I've already met, so just buy the next one and keep reading! I enjoy the interactions, relationships, plot twists, and romance. Really fun and relaxing reading.

What a sweet and enjoyable historical romance! I liked how the roles were flipped and Kit is the one who struggles with insecurity. Both of them have complex relationships with their sisters and I loved the addition of Grace to the story. A cute and clean romance With a heaping of good food!

Her Frontier Sweethearts de Regina Scott serie Frontier Matches libro 1

Argumento:

Happy to Return to Wallin Landing!
Cierra is ready to make her dream of owning a restaurant a reality, but on the way to Wallin Landing a baby is thrust into her care with instructions to hand him over to Christopher Weatherly (Kit).
I really liked how Kit never questioned his responsibility to little Grace. He muddled along, but did his best. With all of Wallin Landing pitching in to help, Grace is in very good hands. There is a decent amount of drama, and a sweet romance. Plenty of characters from the previous series, so you may want to read those 1st, but I feel you can get by reading this one on it's own.
Favorite Quote:
“Dear Lord,”he said. “We thank You for this food and this company, the beauty of Your creation, and the success of our labor. May we be a blessing to others even as You have blessed us.”

I recommend this clean story set in the PNW territory in 1876.

For my honest review I was gifted an eBook from the author without further compensation or expectation. All opinions are my own.

Regina Scott creates a new world that invites the reader in. And having read the other books I felt like walking home when I read of the familiar characters.

The Frontier series is a “ continuation “ of the Frontier Bachelor series that is set in a settlement near Seattle, Washington. But each book can be read as a stand alone.

The characters are a family that are strong and capable. They protect their own and support through challenges and cheer with successes.

Kit and Ciara are both feel less capable due to family expectations and living in another’s shadow. But they soon discover that they are more than what has been perceived by others. They grow stronger and together as they face the new challenges and new beginnings set before them.

I highly recommend this book and others written by this author.

I look forward to reading more of this family/series!

I received an ARC copy of this book and the opinions are mine.

Ciara O’Rourke came to Wallin Landing to step from under her sister’s shadow and start a restaurant. On the journey there, a baby is delivered into her hands with the instructions to take her to Kit Weatherly, a logger in Wallin Landing. Kit is unprepared for the role as father, now that his sister and her husband are no longer alive to take care of their baby. Yet with the help of Ciara and friends at the Landing, he begins to adapt to his new situation. As Ciara and Kit work together, they begin to notice feels for each other that might change their original plans.
Her Frontier Sweetheart is an easy and clean romance to read. The characters are written well with flaws that make them seem human and true to life. My one critique is the fact that near the beginning of the book, danger was implied, but the actual danger (which happened towards the very end of the book) was slightly anticlimactic. Overall though, this book was a good read.

The single men of Wallin Landing want to find themselves wives. Kit has no need for a wife. He enjoys living a carefree life and learning all he can while having fun. Ciara o'Rourke has gone through life living in her older sisters shadow, never feeling like she quite measures up. Ciara decides that the best thing for her to do is to leave Seattle and settle in Wallin Landing, cooking for the logging crew and setting up her own restaurant. While Ciara is traveling from Seattle to Wallin Landing, a strange man comes along, thrusts a toddler named Grace, into Ciara's arms and asks her to take the child, a note and her carpetbag to Christopher Weatherly in order to keep Grace safe. Christopher, AKA Kit has no idea how his life is about to change. I love the characters in this sweet Frontier romance laced with suspense.

This second book in the Frontier Matches series hooked me with the first line—“She was about to enter a whole new world.”—and kept me reading expectantly to the satisfying ending. With a diverse cast of delightful characters, a fast-paced plot which includes a bit of mystery and suspense, a beautifully described 1876 Pacific Northwest setting, intriguing historical detail, and sweet romance, this captivating, easy-to-read story is sure to please fans of clean, Western fiction. The sneak peek at Frontier Cinderella, the third book in the series, is an enjoyable bonus. Note: Even though Her Frontier Sweethearts is the second book in the series, it can be easily read as a standalone.

Ciara O’Rourke is Maddie’s sister—the delightful heroine of Instant Frontier Family book 4 in the Frontier Bachelors series featuring the Wallin Brothers and the Mercer Brides.
Ciara O’Rourke is all grown up now and moves to Wallin’s Landing to open her own restaurant out from under Maddie’s shadow. Her sweethearts are three loggers working for the Wallin brothers. Two of them wish to marry her right off, and set about courting her, but one of them does what he can to keep his distance.
Kit Weatherly has just been handed his baby niece to raise and he’s got more than his hands full, but Ciara is willing to help.
I enjoyed this book very much. It was cool to visit Wallin Landing once again. I don’t know how Regina Scott does it, but I love the characters and situations they find themselves in and must extricate themselves from. I'm looking forward to book 3 in the series.

Her Frontier Sweethearts by Regina Scott
Frontier Matches Series Book Two
Christopher “Kit” Weatherly is shocked when a baby is delivered to him. Ends up that little Grace is his niece. His sister and her husband were gone. So what was a man who didn’t have a home and wandered from job to job to do with a baby?
Ciara O’Rourke was heading to Wallin Landing to open a restaurant in the old Wallin family home. She was getting out of the shadow of her sister, Maddie, who had the most famous bakery in Seattle. They were given a little girl to deliver to one of Drew Wallin’s loggers on the way.
Excellent storyline and characters. Most are good people, but a few villains are in the mix. Looking forward to the next story where poor Harry might finally get the girl.

Sweet historical romances from Regina Scott always hit the spot for me. Ciara and Kit's chemistry is oh so sweet, the setting filled with adventure, mishaps and life, and Grace is there to bring them together. It really is a delightful romance.

Scott does a great job setting the scene in Wallin Landing and what loggers lives looked like at this time. The frontier charm is there for all to love and the characters engaging. The fake dating, determined young woman, wandering young man, thrown into caring for a child...all of it and the community at Wallin Landing make for a beautiful story. You can read this as a standalone, though the characters in this story have me curious and I am will definitely be returning for more. I am very excited to see more from Scott with this series.

Another fun entry in the Frontier Matches series, this features reappearances of characters from previous books (and series) by the author, as well as setting up character arcs for the next one. It can be read as a standalone - Kit and Ciara's romance is the sweet combining of two independent lives with a fake engagement trope. The various perils in their lives and obstacles to their happily ever after were an engaging backdrop to their goodness and realizing their compatibility.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

Good

Am really enjoying this series. The mix of outback and new settlement speaks to my adventurous soul. Really like how they all stand for each other. Harry is an unusual character. Like Jesse. Absolutely love the glimpses of Katie Jo we are honoured to catch in passing. Enjoyed the growing relationship between Kit and Ciara. Liked how they both needed to overcome personal issues in order to truly bond. A good clean read. Can't wait to read more of this enjoyable series.

I loved this sweet historical western romance. I loved Ciara and Kit. I loved Graces antics. I am definitely looking forward to what Harry and Jesse might do to find the women for them in the next book in the series. I loved that this story shows how tough women can be. Book two of the Frontier Matches Series is just as enjoyable as the first installment! This slow-burn romance allows us a peek into the lives of lumber camps in the Nineteenth century. I never thought I would be interested in loggers - until this series. I enjoyed reading about Clara's pursuit of satisfying employment in the rugged wilderness of Washington. Her goal involves hard work and independence. She isn't expecting romance, but it comes her way nonetheless. Fun read!
