Edit: Apparently the series is now 1 book. All the reviews for both books got shoved onto this page. After I read book 2 I'll edit my review with comments about book 2.

I will however add that I don't appreciate parts of my review, even just the trigger warnings I listed, being put copy pasted onto the authors Instagram page without credit to my review itself and underneath 5 stars as if it came from a 5 star review. Was it just the trigger warning section? Yeah. But it's still copy pasted, and none of the review quotes posted on the authors Instagram page credit the reviewers with even a simple "goodreads reviewer". I'm obviously not changing my review over it, but I can say 100% I don't like it and it's a little sketchy.

My review is my thoughts, my opinions, and my POV. Trigger/Content warnings may be considered spoilers about certain themes or plot twists in the story.

TW/CW: Negative self views; Death of a loved one; Stalking; Domestic Violence; Consensual sexual scenes

Cut Off Your Nose is book 1 of 2 in The Beautiful Nightmare series. Follow Willow, who has extremely low self esteem, and arguably, body dysmorphia. After coming into some money, Willow has cosmetic surgery. After recovery she gains the attention she's always craved, which turns out to be more than she bargained for.

At its surface this book seems to be about superficial beauty and even some misogyny. After reading however I see a much deeper message. I believe Grace is trying to use Willow to make the point that cosmetic surgery, while there's nothing wrong with it, does not truly determine the beauty of a person. Willow's personality hardly changes after her surgery, she is still the same person just with a sprinkle more confidence. Willow is still Wiow regardless of her face.
I really enjoyed the pacing of the story and the portrayal that people will ALWAYS give their opinion on your life choices, we can never ever please everyone. It also portrays that while we believe being attractive to the majority is a step up in life, it comes with a lot of unwanted attention and advances (though obviously that can and does happen to everyone).
One thing I did dislike was how predicable it was. Every time a "twist" popped up, both small and large, I had seen it coming from a mile away. I believe I have already figured out who the secret antagonist is as well.
Overall, a really quick read that has much more tto offer than at first glance. Super excited to dive into book two!

Many thanks to Author Nicki Grace for the ARC copy of Cut Off Your Nose. My opinions expressed here are unbiased.

WOW, just put everything down and read this. Nicki did it again. With every book I see, she is a gifted author pouring her very best into her stories. I could not put this book down; it kept me interested and curious throughout. I read it in one day. It was a fast-paced, twisted, compelling, pacy page-turner from the first to the last page.

Do you think having a new face changes who you are? Willow Feltner sure does, and she is a brilliant, intelligent woman who, unfortunately, has many insecurities, a stalker, an abusive boyfriend, and toxic family members. The author has done such a fine job developing the lead character; you can feel all of her strengths, weaknesses, and insecurities, and it makes you want to hug her (or slap her) for everything she's been through.

BEWARE!!! This story is addicting. You won’t want to stop reading. You will loath some characters and love others. I don’t want to spoil anything for you, so I’ll stop here and impatiently wait for the next book in this series.

Grab your copy today. Happy Reading!!!

Is the grass always greener

Sometimes sequels can be disappointing, but this was better than the first. You never know what’s going on behind closed doors so don’t be envious of what someone else has. Willow learned the hard way that the grass is not always greener on the other side. Her need for love and to feel perfect led her into the life of a psycho. This was a good book on learning to love what you have. The only part that I didn’t get was the sister.. I won’t say more don’t like to give away spoilers

To start off this review I’m not sure how I feel about this book I found myself getting really angry with Willow in the middle of the book for putting up with the abuse from Justin when his “punishments” are INEXCUSABLE!! Some of the things he did to her made me uncomfortable but that’s the feeling the author was going for so she did her job really well!

I did find out my guess about the stalker was wrong so that was a big plot twist for me.. I just couldn’t believe it was her sister I really thought it was David being jealous!

I also enjoyed the ending and I hope now Willow knows her worth and takes value with the friends she has and doesn’t involve herself with toxic situations anymore but I’m so glad she can use her story to help women who are struggling to seek help because hopefully they know that they are not alone.

This book was still a page turner since I finished it in a day and I would recommend it if it is something you find interesting but just be aware of the possible triggers in this book! PLEASE READ TRIGGER WARNING BEFORE READING THIS BOOK!

This author will make you fall in love with her characters and then take you through the ringer with them while tearing your heart out but have you still rooting for the main character to pull through and when she does you fall in love with her even more! So if you want an author that can write with such hold on her readers look no further then the amazing Nicki Grace herself!

Thank you again Nicki Grace for letting me read the ARC it was a honor as always! I love your work and can’t wait for the next one! ♥️

From the very first page I was hooked. The author does a great job of playing with your emotions throughout the story. I laughed, then I felt sadness, pity, anger, and frustration. This is everything I want in a suspense novel. The characterization is great, you’ll want to just hug Willow but kick and scream at some others….I may have yelled at the book a few times. I connected well with the book because I love a great amount of dialogue and this book has it. I’m also an accountant like Willow and that brought realism to the story for me, we just don’t get a lot of representation. I could also relate to the social pressures of outward appearance that we all face as well as the family drama and the main
theme of the story. I highly recommend this book.

I had never read anything by this author, so it was pure luck that I ended up with an ARC and I’m so glad. I’m left many theories about “whodunnit” and can’t wait for the next book!

✨ This is really great one guys! ✨

Willow is a single young woman who works an office job at an accounting firm. She doesn’t have any family left other than her incredibly selfish sister who is constantly putting Willow down about her looks. Willow is insecure about the way she looks because of this and other circumstances in her life like not being noticed by men, and missing out on opportunities. She decides to alter her appearance, and her life changes drastically - love, friendships, and her career are all affected in ways you as the reader don’t expect.

I really enjoyed this book because of all of the relatable feelings and situations she ends up in. It really wasn’t comparable to other books I’ve read, and that’s what really got me hooked. I can’t wait for the next one. Definitely recommend ♥️

Thank you to Nicki Grace for the ARC copy!

emotional roller coaster!

10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! I was hooked the moment i started reading this since i had been impatiently waiting for its release. i went through every possible emotion with Willow in this. I cried, cussed, got angry and judgmental, felt sad, embarrassed, terrified, excited, relieved, and happy during this journey with Willow. I related to her thoughts and actions so much more than i had expected. The author puts you in the front seat of a first person view of a woman trapped in her head and life so you best buckle up and hang on while you’re riding the roller coaster of the beautiful nightmare series!!!!

So I ate up the first book, but this one was a little harder to get through. For one, almost every single one of the characters was absolutely insufferable. And I liked Willow, the MC, in the first book but I began to dislike her in this one. Also, there’s a MASSIVE amount of TWs in this one-I don’t have TWs and I still had to take a break every so often from reading this because of that and because I was so mad at the characters. I did like the ending though and the reveal of the stalker was a good one.

I got an ARC of this book and read it in a matter of a day.

This story is rather addictive. I like that it was pretty short but really wish that there was more and that I didn't have to wait till the second book came out.

Willow is a very relatable character, with not liking her looks and wanting to change them. Not too sure she did it for the right reasons but she did it anyways.

I'm very curious as to who the stalker is....

*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review*

This book picks up right after the events of the first and seamlessly ties everything together. The reveals make perfect sense of the previous books twists, and still leaves the author enough time to work through the remaining conflict without rushing. The only bummer for me was that it still felt a little short, but that strikes me as a decent problem to have!

All in all, great story! The characters felt relatable, as did the premise. The pacing was a little off in places, and a decent chunk of time got skipped over in a way that felt a little abrupt. All in all though it was a solid story with a good amount to follow, an easy and enjoyable enough read. Glad to see there’ll be a part two!

Wow! I usually try to empathize with characters in which I don't have a similar life experience, but Willow, I just couldn't. Nicki Grace told a great story, but the characters, especially the women drove me crazy. Nicki should have put a disclaimer like Law & Order does at beginning of show, cause these events came straight out the headlines. Sad, but too true.😪

The Price of beauty

Willow thought she was an ugly duckling, but she wasn’t. Now her beauty is causing pain. Good book it took a minute to get started, but once it did it took off. I am waiting for book 2 have to see how this ends

Heartbreakingly accurate

SPOILERS AHEAD

This is yet another brilliant book by Nicki.
The story is a great domestic thriller that touches on domestic violence and IPA.

It accurately portrays the struggles of a woman in an abusive relationship, not just with an intimate partner but with other people around her.

Willow is a self-proclaimed doormat from the start, believes herself ugly and unworthy of love.
She puts up with ill treatment from her remaining family members.

When she takes a chance and makes physical changes to herself, she believes that everything will come up roses from now on.
But unfortunately for Willow, that just isn't the case.

Willow is stalked and harassed and succumbs to a barrage of mental and physical violence.

My heart broke for her from the get-go and continued right the way through.

Getting out of a DV relationship is not as easy as it seems to someone on the outside, and this story is so accurate it the way it flows, it brings a tear to my eye.

I could not put this book down. It is yet again another phenomenal story, told by an incredible writer.

100 percent recommend

such a great read!

This book was so good! Once it picked up I couldn’t put it down.

We first meet Willow the ugly duckling that by a turn of events becomes a swan. But.. what cost would that be? Definitely not what she was expecting it to be.

Next up the self absorbed sister Naomi. You know.. the pretty sister.. everything is about her.

Neeexxxxtttt up… the office pretty boy Justin. You know the one that all the girls want.. including our MFC.

Everyone has that one ex that messed up and wants to try again. Here it’s David!

Such a dramatic winding story. But.. looking at the book from a deeper perspective the situations that happen in this book women see every day.

Please make sure to check trigger warnings of this book. I personally don’t because I like to be surprised about the book I’m reading. But this one really made me think and I appreciate that an author can grab my attention and make me sit and think about a book for a couple hours after I’ve finished it.

Keep it coming!

non-stop twist

This is the second book I have read from author Nicki Grace, and she’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, especially with a title like Cut Off Your Nose to Spite Your Face—a clever play on words that gains even more meaning as the story unfolds. Although there’s some humor woven in, the dark twists and unsettling moments are classic Nicki Grace, showing off her uniquely twisted imagination (in the best way possible). She crafts scenes that are so disturbing you can’t help but wonder how these ideas came to her. Her characters are incredibly well-drawn; you end up despising who you’re supposed to despise and rooting for those you’re meant to love. This was definitely one of those books where, by the end, I found myself thinking, “What did I just read?” I couldn’t put it down, and despite the length, it flew by.

NICKI "GODDAMN" GRACE DID IT AGAIN! Every time I sit down at night to enjoy some quiet. I'm left needing a box of tissues, maybe some therapy and a shoulder to cry on! I also need some giggle juice 😉 if you know what I mean...to calm my STRESS!

This book was an emotional experience, I got teary eyed, I laughed, I was SO angry that I won't share no spoilers! Just know, I cursed her out for being with this man Justin! He irked my nerves so bad. I couldn't get to sleep without knowing how the story ends. So now that I'm sleep deprived, I say GET THIS ON YOUR READING LIST! 😄

A page turner!

A story about learning to love yourself as you are. But Willow was surrounded by so many toxic people it was hard for her to love that person. She changed her outer appearance but the inside still needed work. This book will have you feeling all types of emotions, it was a roller coaster. This was a great book!

I cannot rave about To Spite Your Face enough. It was definitely a tough read in spots with the abuse Willow suffers, but that simply means it was well written. This book will make you feel everything. It's a fantastic conclusion to Nicki Grace's duology.

I thought this was a good read. Willow had
so much negativity and jealousy in her life.
She felt so insecure about herself due to how
others treated her. She did what she thought
it would be a good idea to change her image
which ultimately caused more issues in her life.

“Cut off your nose to spite your face… to hurt oneself in the course of trying to hurt another.” -Cut Off Your Nose

Hello, my name is Willow, and I am probably the ugliest girl in the world… at least that is how I feel. I have one person I can always count on, my best friend Ally, ok maybe two if you count my ex-boyfriend, David. I lost my parents three years ago and my grandma recently. That leaves me with my self-absorbed older sister Naomi, and an aunt and uncle who are the greediest people I know. I just found out that my grandma left me a ton of money, the question is… what should I do with it? Make myself gorgeous of course!

I found this book to be intriguing. Nicki Grace does a phenomenal job hitting on the sensitive topics of beauty, how others see and describe beauty, and how the main character sees beauty. Cut Off Your Nose is a great example of how things aren’t always greener on the other side. Things may seem perfect on the outside but could be totally different inside. Willow believes that all her problems are due to others thinking she is ugly. Once she gets her face-altering surgery she finds out that she still has problems, they are just different kinds of problems than before. Nicki Grace nails this on the head.

This novel is classified as both romantic and suspenseful. Although both romance and suspense are within the pages of this book, I don’t feel as though they played a major role in the book. To me, the book revolves around Willow wanting to feel good about herself. This happens about halfway through the book and then the romance starts. Just as the suspense is beginning, the book ends, on a cliffhanger.

I did find this book enjoyable and will read the second book within the series, however, I don’t know if I will remember this book later down the road. I give this book 3 stars and would recommend it to anyone who wants a fast, light read with a tiny bit of spice. I would even maybe classify this as a young adult read.

Content/Trigger Warnings from the author: self-harm, emotional abuse, violence, rape, and other forms of sexual violence. Other triggers I would like to add are profanity, stalking, death, mugging, physical abuse, and sexual harassment.

This is an emotion packed story of a young woman struggling with her identity, her less than desirable physical attributes and her inability to demand fairness in her personal and professional life.  The story starts with the main character, Willow, as a caterpillar who is determined to turn herself into a butterfly.  While changing the outside is achieved simply and quickly with only a scalpel and bandages … changing what’s inside will require much, much more.  This is a story of an abused woman as she goes from one kind of abuse to another, all the while wondering, “Where’s my happy-ever-after?”.  While this type of story may not be your first choice, it is a MUST READ.  In Cut Off Your Nose, author Nicki Grace respectfully and courageously shares with the oblivious world the side of life most people never see, the cruel one.  This is not just a book about abuse, and/or violence, it’s about Willow’s painful experiences and how they shape and propel her, forever changed, into the future.  This is only book one of Willow’s story; so, come take this ride with me and let’s find out if Willow has cut off her nose to spite her face; or, if she can end up as the beautiful butterfly she was meant to be!
