When two young boys disappear while riding their bikes, Detective Charlotte Pierce must follow the clues to find their killer before he strikes again.
In the dusty outskirts of Mesquite County, California, two kids go missing, taken from outside their homes. The quiet desert community is devastated and it’s up to Charlotte to find out what happened.
The FBI is called in and a man who stalked and terrorized Charlotte comes back into her life. She kept his secret to protect her career, but is now being forced to work with him to solve the case.
What happens when she confronts him about what he has done? What happens when the killer start searching for another victim?
Kate Gable loves a good mystery that is full of suspense. She grew up devouring psychological thrillers and crime novels as well as movies, tv shows and true crime.
Her favorite stories are the ones that are centered on families with lots of secrets and lies as well as many twists and turns. Her novels have elements of psychological suspense, thriller, mystery and romance.
Kate Gable lives in Southern California with her husband, son, a dog and a cat. She has spent more than twenty years in this area and finds inspiration from its cities, canyons, deserts, and small mountain towns.
When Detective Charlotte is brought into investigate a case of a missing boy she has no idea how much worse things are going to get. Not only are boys missing but now that FBI agent that’s there to assist is literally the one who did unspeakable things to her!!!!
MISSING LIVES aka HOW SHE DISAPPEARED is the third instalment in Kate Gable’s contemporary, adult DETECTIVE CHARLOTTE PIERCE MYSTERY (aka Detective Charlotte Pierce) mystery/suspense series focusing on Mesquite County, California Detective Charlotte Pierce. MISSING LIVES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty but I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout.
NOTE: Once again, the author has changed book titles, and the series name such that the confusion is making it difficult to keep track of the books and series order. MISSING LIVES is part 3 of the Charlotte Pierce Mystery, yet the author has the same series aka Detective Charlotte Pierce with the first two books (different) titles with the same characters and premise, and that book 3 is a different premise all together. Confused..yep, so am I.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Charlotte and Kelsey) MISSING LIVES follows several paths including the truth behind Charlotte’s missing childhood friend Kelsey, the disappearance and murder of two young boys, Charlotte’s boyfriend’s dangerous and deadly work assignment, and a ghost from the past that refuses to let go.
Detective Charlotte Pierce and her partner Detective Will Torch are assigned to investigate the disappearance of a young boy who would later be found dead. As the duo begin their investigation into the first of three missing boys, Charlotte will be forced to work alongside the man who almost destroyed her life, an FBI Agent who continues to harass our story line heroine. When Charlotte reveals the truth to her partner, about what happened years before, she must consider her options going forward, options that may threaten our heroine’s career.
Meanwhile, Detective Will Torch’s personal and professional life are about to collide; and Charlotte’s boyfriend is injured on the job.
MISSING LIVES is a fast paced, intriguing, suspense filled story of secrets and lies, power and betrayal, family and friendships, obsession and murder. The premise is captivating, dramatic and intense; the characters are charismatic and determined. Detective Kaitlyn Carr from the author’s Kaitlyn Carr series crosses over with a cameo appearance in preparation for an upcoming cross-over novella.
Here’s hoping the series, the books, the stories and the covers eventually merge and release in a non-confusing manner.
Its like I read and read and read and then in two seconds its over. Done and tied up so fast.my head is spinning. I don't trust that Kelsey at all. I.dont.know why. And what about Dylan? His partners die alot. I am so.suspicious..I just hope that we end up.getting all the.unanswered questions I have. There's a lot..but I do like this author. Honestly. Its just over so quick! and easy.

Although this was an interesting mystery, I don’t really enjoy mysteries that are not solved by the end of the book. There were too many things left unfinished for Detective Charlotte Pierce who has made peace with her childhood friend. Kelsey was abducted years ago after a concert, but why doesn’t her DNA match her parents? Charlotte and her partner are on the case of a missing six-year-old boy. When they find his body, they learn another boy of the same age has been taken. The FBI is called in and to her shock, the agent is the one who years ago raped her when she was a rookie cop. When she gets proof, she is unable to take him down. To add to her stress, she learns that her boyfriend, a firefighter, has been injured and hospitalized. Her partner is involved with an innocent suspect from a previous case. Will this cause problems for him and the department? When another boy is taken, will Charlotte find him in time and handle the threat from the kidnapper? I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation, from the author, for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Crimes against against child are a sad, tragic and horrendous affair and Detective Charlotte Pierce is racing the clock before this becomes a case of a serial killer. Detective Pierce and her partner Detective Will Torch follow the clues which involves interviewing the bereaved parents. As professionals they must separate their empathic emotions towards the parents and their own feelings. But Murphy's law has a terrible timing in rearing its ugly head as in the case of an old co-worker who when Charlotte was a rookie, young and naïve, sexually assaulted her. Being in emotional turmoil she did what most woman did, years before the "Me too" movement didn't report the rape or had a rape kit done. She now finds herself working with the now FBI agent. The reader will find themselves not only following the cases, but also with the personal side stories of Charlotte Pierce and the people who revolves around her. A deep insight into human nature.
Charlotte is once again trying to solve a complicated case. Two boys have gone missing and then their bodies are found. The case is puzzling with very few clues to go on. That’s where Charlotte excels. She also has to face a past that she did not deal with when she was a new recruit. Her relationship is strained when her boyfriend is hurt while fighting fires. She rediscovers some old friends and reconnects with another detective. All this makes for an a on packed novel.when you start this book, be prepared to follow along with a normal person like you and I, only with the added job of detective.
I liked this story a lot. I still like the main character, and her boyfriend, and I like that she ends up connecting with the main character in the author's other series. The story line itself is fresh and original.
On the other hand, the villains are despicable, including the nasty FBI agent, who is himself a bona fide criminal. I can't wait to see him taken down, hopefully in the next novel in the series.
Oh, and, while the editing isn't perfect, it's much better than the ediing in the previous novel in the series. I suspect that the editor credited on the copyright page had a lot to do with that. ;)
This is book three in The Last Breath Series A Detective Charlotte Pierce Mystery and omg it is definitely a must read. When Charlotte's friend Kelsey disappeared after a concert when they were thirteen Charlotte and her friend's always regretted not telling the truth about what happened that night and they felt guilty but now Charlotte is going to Vegas with her boyfriend Dylan and also going to meet Kelsey after all these year's but when she finds out what happened to her Charlotte was so upset and determined to find out the answers that Kelsey never got. When she returns home two boy's have gone missing and under the same circumstances and Charlotte and her partner Will need to put the pieces together and also the FBI have been called in and Charlotte will have to face the man that did something bad to her early on in her career but she is not the same person now and will need to ignore him if possible. When another boy goes missing under the same circumstances will they find him in time before he suffered the same fate as the other's. Will they find the person responsible for these terrible crimes that have been committed or will they be to late and he strikes again. Wow this series just gets better and better with each book written and I couldn't put it down and read it until the early hours of the morning as it was so addictive and I can't wait to read the next book in this amazing series.
This is then first book I read from this author. It had me hooked right away. It is a fast read. I was thinking the fbI agent had something to do with the abductions but as far as I know so far he didnt. Charlotte is the main character she is a cop. She moved from L.A because she needed a change. She gets involved with a case where a little bit was riding his bike and gets abducted. Then it happens to a second boy. They are found dead but then a third gets abducted... It is fast moving. I really enjoyed the book.
OMG where do I start to review this book, it has twists and turns all of the way and keeps you on the edge of your seat wanting more.
Charlotte is loving life with her boyfriend Dylan, he is an ex cop now firefighter, they spend most of their nights together, till he is called out on a bush fire, which kills his partner and lands him in hospital, meanwhile In the dusty outskirts of Mesquite County, California, two kids go missing, taken from outside their homes. Charlotte and Will are the primary officers on this case, but then to her horror a face from the past appears, FBI agent Phillip Welch is brought in on the case, Charlotte has had dealings with him before when he drugged and raped her.
While trying to find the killer, a third boy goes missing but a body isn't found, so hopefully this one is still alive.
Charlotte gets a lead from Kaitlyn Carr, saying she has some information about who the murderer could be. Can Charlotte find the third boy alive, will she find the killer?
While all this is going on she is still trying to find out why the DNA for her friend that went missing when she was a teenage didn't match, after meeting Kelsey, she knew that it was her friend, so offers her help in finding out what is not right in this case.
This is another brilliant story in this series, it is a must read, I cant wait for the next book.
MISSING LIVES is the third book of Detective Charlotte Pierce Mystery. In this juicy mystery, Detective Charlotte Pierce is hot on the case of not one, but two young boys murdered. And another young boy disappeared. Why would riding a bike turn to murder? Detective Pierce can’t solve all the pieces of this puzzle alone. The desert and unusual setting within the outlying community of Mesquite County, CA, where crime is very low, makes what happened in this community very disturbing. Time is of the essence to find the killer(s) before he strikes again, so Detective Pierce’s boss calls in the FBI to help with the murders. Who killed the two boys? Did the same person that killed the boys kidnap the other boy? Or are the murders connected to the disappearance? Will Charlotte be able to find out before it is too late? This is as much a novel about the characters as well as the disappearance and murder of each person. We get to know all about the characters, we get to see how Charlotte’s mind works, and how she goes about taking the clues and solving cases. Not everything is fun and games, a lot of personal issues, and family dysfunctions comes to the fore. This book is every suspense lover’s dream with gratifyingly unpredictable detective work that kept me up turning pages. There are many twists, and twists, and turns in this book that I thoroughly enjoyed and didn’t see coming, but Kate Gable kept me on my toes. Kate Gable has an ability to make you feel as if you were right there watching the events unfold. I highly recommend this book. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Absolutely wonderful book. Kept me on the edge of my seat. It normally takes me about a week or two to finish a book no matter the length but this one I had finished in 2 days. Would have been sooner but my kids kept finding me. I really need to find a better reading/hiding spot so I can just read until my heart is content. I love your books and can’t wait to read the next one. 🩵💜💙💙
I was so excited when this book popped up I actually squealed with delight and then I hunkered down and started reading and I knew right away I'd be reading all day till the book was finished. Man I love the suspense of the cases, the mystery and how Ms.Charlotte Pierce finds the bad guys. You never know what's on the next page waiting to jump out to get you.
Two boys go missing while riding their bikes. Each one was found dead. Then a third boy goes missing. A concentrated effort is underway with Detective Charlotte Pierce leading the investigation. The FBI sends an agent to help. It turns out to be the one that drugged Charlotte. A page turning thriller.
This was another good heart-tugging mystery by Kate Gable. It has all the questions, the theories, the frustrations, the exasperations....and finally the answers to "what happened...and why." The only reason I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 star is because the ending seemed to be wrapped up a little too quickly. It all made sense; I just wanted it to drag out a little more.
This is the first book I've read by Kate Gable and was very disappointed. There were so many loose ends left at the end. In fact, I don't think one story line was completed in the whole book. In one place she was talking to/about one character but used a different character's name. It was like she kept forgetting what she was talking about.
Wow another great book. Detective Charlotte pierce gets another griping case of two missing little boys but nothing makes since, her boyfriend is hurt during a fire and Charlotte must go to him. Can she solve this case before another child is in danger?
Book #3 in the Charlotte Pierce series is an excellent page-turner. There are several stories going on at the same time. She is still wondering who kidnapped her childhood friend, her fire fighter boyfriend is injured, an FBI agent from her past shows up to taunt her, her partner is mixed up in a possible mistrial, and someone is kidnapping and killing young boys. It’s a lot!! But even so, the script is easy to follow. This is a very intriguing mystery. There are some loose ends that make me anxious to read the next book. This is an excellent addition to the series . *this was a complimentary copy and this is my honest review*
I really enjoyed this mystery from Kate Gable. She is an excellent author and knows how to keep you turning the pages until the last one. Her stories make you feel like its a real life story and could happen to anyone. Get your copy today and enjoy her books.
Great storyline that grabs your attention from the beginning with relatable characters and a desire to find out who dunnit and how it pans out!! Can’t wait for the next instalment!!
I received an ARC of Missing Lives and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I love Charlotte Pierce. She's very relatable and feels like she could be me, am average woman. I love reading about her solving mysteries it's like an adventure
Please do not take my 3 star rating that this a bad book. It was just that I found little boys being murdered hard to take. Made me very sad which made it hard to finish this book. It is just that I am a very sensitive to crimes against children. Read for yourself and make up your own mind.
Missing Lives/How She Disappeared was a great crime book describing another adventure with Detective Pierce (book3). Enjoyed that she solved this on her own, well, for the most part anyways. Eager to see what else Ms. Pierce is up to in book4!
MS Gable keeps you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. The relationship s of the characters are very real. It was good to see Kaitlyn brought back into the story line. And now I can't wait to start the next book
Definitely another page Turner from the very talented Kate Gable. Detective Charlotte Pierce takes on another case, chasing down a heinous killer, while dealing with an unwelcome face from the past, as well as other personal issues. Well worth reading.
Such a good read! Hoping Charlotte spills the beans about the creep. I love how she followed her intuition and found who she was looking for! Thanks Kate Gable for another great Mystery Thriller!
Horrible Virtual Voice narrator. The story moved so slowly and then felt so rushed at the end. It seemed to be a whole lot of words with very little happening. The monotone virtual voice didn't help either.
