‘To me, reviving our inner beauty means reclaiming our happiness and well-being.’
Happiness and well-being are adornments of this temporary life. They lift up the heaviness in our chests when navigating through obstacles and challenges in our journey towards the eternal destination; akhirah. Though happiness in its truest sense is a gift from the Creator, we also hold some degree of power on the reigns of our life to improve our well-being.
Inspired by the scientific input from Positive Psychology and understandings from the al-Quran and Sunnah, Glow Inside & Out presents to you 10 steps to rejuvenate your happiness and well-being. If following the 10-step Korean skincare routine can give you radiant “glass skin”, then the author is hopeful that the 10 main insights from this book could ignite the spark to your inner glow.
This book gives readers 10 insightful essentials of maintaining happiness and well-being in order to navigate life better, despite the hurdles.
What i really impressed with this book is that the author tackles positive psychology to align the happiness and well-being in accordance with Islamic teaching. It’s really a good insight to find balance between science and religion.
I gained quite a number of new information and concepts especially in the field of psychology i.e. Martin Seligman’s theories of well-being, Seligman’s ABCDE Model and categories of coping mechanisms.
I also discovered the relations of Islamic concepts with happiness and well-being such as sa’adah, ‘afiyah and barakah. It made me realise that the deen (Islam) is really a perfect religion.
Who needs this book?
•Muslim, especially the one who wants to improve happiness and well-being •Anyone that is in the healing process
Quotes that I like:
✨There is never a coincidence or mistake in meeting people, just more lessons to be learned from. ✨We do not know the hikmah behind something that Allah holds from us. ✨When He wills it, Allah can open doors that were previously locked tight for you.
Personally, I found comfort in this book and it aids me in my healing journey.
One of my recommended read of the year! Taking inspiration from Positive Psychology and combine with understandings from the Quran and Sunnah, this book is just perfect for those searching for a book, a manual to help them ‘glow’ and be the best version of themselves. I find the language flows and easy to understand and the pretty design layout and illustrations makes the book a complete package! I highly encourage anyone to read this.
A book that I wish to read again. I find myself here and there in the book. Love the illustrations and quotation pages. Life is a journey of finding your glow inside out - happiness. Combinations of knowing yourself, gratitude, strengthening self-barrier, motivation, productivity, consistency and survival kit as tools for "humans whom would be tested with obstacles to unearth the 'gold' within them."
The best Islamic psychology book I have ever read. Well, how many books I have read? Aha.
One of the best things I like about this book is how the author relates his writing to our lives (how to have good physical and mental health) with Al-Quran and Sunnah. Whoever has depression, anxiety, feels tired with their life, and facing tests over and over should read this.
Haha. Tapi mencabar macam mana pun boleh jer fahami konteks ayat. Cuma kalau betul2 nak tambah kosa kata, boleh rujuk kamus. Gittew.
Terima kasih penulis. Gembira dapat baca buku psikologi yang sentiasa rujuk dan kaitkan dengan agama dan bukan secara melampau.
The book is about searching your inner-self and guide you to see the beauty of it. Discuss about our emotions and how to develop EI skills (emotional intelligence) within ourselves.
Contains interesting subtopic such as mental health, life purpose, gratitude , consistency , and mindfulness . The author also share her experience and story to explain certain topics which to me, is attractive. I would say the formality level of the book is on 70%
Author juga ada selitkan dalil-dalil, infographics, figures yang berkaitan untuk dihuraikan di dalam kebanyakan subtopik which shows that we are not only reading them casually but also ada opportunity to learn something from the writings.
Dayah personally as non-fiction reader, would love reading this book during free time, sebab kita boleh choose which topic to read at one sitting. to me buku ni is not kind of books yang kita boleh habiskan cepat2. Sebab there are some important and a bit heavy topic that we need to digest and understand.
I would recommend this book to those yang dah familiar dengan non-fiction writing style and suka baca non-fiction atau sesiapa yang want to upskill dia punya Self-exploaration and Emotional Intellingence skill. Also, its a great tools to improve your English vocabulary and writing skills!
The author nicely interweaves the theories, stories and her insights, making the reading experience a good one. The book is embracing, consoling, guiding and heart-soothing. 🥰 . She shared her life journey to motivate others to stay positive, keep moving forward and be consistent in their efforts. Her writing is humbling, intimate & personal. Each chapter was curated well, making it easy for all readers to focus without feeling draggy or lengthy. It is not easy to open ourselves up to the public. ☺️ . On page 105, I love how she, highlighted the fact that some Islamic novels can have the “yawning” effect, this emphasises how good creative writing is needed to convey beautiful Islamic values successfully. . The advice shared is practical to be implemented in our lives, doable inshaAllah. The summary tables at the end of every chapter are very helpful for us the readers to recap whether have we understood everything well or not. 🤓 . Convenient for us to revisit the “steps” at another time. Thanks!
Self help books are really not for me, thus this book is not my favourite but, but-
I do appreciate : • how easy-to-read the book is (i finish this book in one sitting , less than 2 hour) • learn a lot, the complete mental health model, PERMA & ABCDE Model, 24 Strengths by Martin Seligman, the mindfulness exercise for muslims, model of flow by Mihalyi, Stages of creative process & many more (love how the author relates all these in everyday life & in a muslim's perspective (because Islam is complete)
My favourite chapter would be Chapter 10, examples of coping mechanisms (either problem-focused or emotional-focused)
also thank you Mr Hisham Salmin for all the beautiful arts, its really soothing having such nice watercolor arts in between pages
recommended for someone who need a simple read & who wants an islamic motivational book.
Solid 10!! ✨ I just love everything from this book. Seriously, I don't know how to describe this feeling. This book has touched my heart with the author's sincerity. We can really feel it. Each word embraced us. And the guidance are all practical too. It's all up to us, willing to do or not. Baby steps are still a big step. And paling best big view for this book is; the author managed to talk psychology theories and relates them all back to Quran and Hadith, such are very comfort to the situation related. May Allah SWT rewards the author and blessed all the readers, allahumma ameen ameen.
It took me almost a year to finish this😅It’s a great book but since it requires extra focus and understanding to finish it, I took a long gap because I didn’t have the luxury of focus last year apparently.
Although I can’t remember most of the earlier parts, the annotations and tabbings I did really help in revising the points.
This book is amazing! The fact that the author majored in psychology AND quran sunnah made her points more sense both islamically and practically. I think if one can actually practice every steps in the book, one will be at their best self in shaa Allah 😁
Definitely, a highly recommended book for this year! I think this book has everything i need right now. The way author wrote this book is like a friend.
It has little stories just the way how a friend will tell a story, it has wisdom in it, some suggestion on solution.
I am so thankful that we have a great author like this in Malaysia for this genre.
Self-help gem for Muslimah readers. This book seamlessly blends faith and personal development, offering practical advice and spiritual insights. Auni's relatable writing and actionable tips make it a must-read for those seeking to enhance their inner and outer glow. Highly recommended for anyone looking to boost their confidence and well-being through an Islamic lens. 🌷
When a friend reminded me of my uni days "You should take psychology for your undergrad studies". Oh no no no...psychology was the most hateful thing at that time, I won't register that subject for my elective courses. And that's how the time passes..
Ended up, as I grow older...my interest has changed. Self help books become my top priority. And I could read things about psychology hours just like how I read fictions.
Ok, about the book Glow Inside & Out by Auni Baharin. She explores on various scope on psychology such as psychological perspective on happiness, how to define mental health vs mental illness, emotional intelligence and many more. The good thing about these explanations are the way she relates it with what the Quran and the Hadith said regarding these matters. Another thing that deepen my understanding on certain issues or concepts that she introduced is through the anecdotes, the story that redirected the concepts to real life events.
Through relatable storytelling and empowering affirmations, she connects with readers, offering guidance on overcoming insecurities, managing stress, and cultivating a life of purpose. The tone is uplifting and motivational, encouraging readers to take small but meaningful steps to embrace their authentic selves. For example, she proposed on how to cultivate a positive mindset by reframing negative thoughts and focusing on gratitude. Write a journal and list down even smallest of things that we are grateful for.
A new thing that I discover from my reading is the concept of happiness. We tend to view happiness is equal to well being right? Same goes for well being as equal as happiness. But in this book, you will come to an understanding that happiness is just a portion, one of its cargo on a huge ship of well being as what the author wrote.
"Well being is the larger picture of how to feel happy and satisfied in life".
It's a good book for those who are seeking inner peace, self acceptance, and those who are not just focusing on external beauty but a deep and lasting transformation.
The author starts off with defining the terms - happiness and wellbeing accompanied with extensive explanations. Shen then carefully explores the needs to recognise our own emotions and which state of emotion we currently experience at the moment.
I love that this book is packed with interesting information and scientific facts about feelings/emotions and the graphic diargram helps the readers to better understand the information that he tries to deliver.
I guess this is a very concise and refreshing read, not too preachy as the author claimed which makesit great for anyone looking for a spiritual boost or getting confused with what he/she desires in life.
