I was hired to tame alien pets, but my beastly alien boss is determined to tame me.
As a pet whisperer, I’ve yet to meet a snarling beast I can’t turn into a purring pussycat. When a billionaire alien living in a castle on an isolated planet posts a job looking for someone to housebreak his pets, I'm confident I can train them to eat out of his hand instead of trying to bite his head off.
My growly boss has two rules. Don’t touch him and remain inside my room at night. The first part’s a challenge, because I have an overwhelming urge to nuzzle his neck and lick his . . . fingers. As for the second, I lie awake all night, struggling to ignore the howls echoing through the barren castle passages.
I might be here to train his pets to walk on a leash, but I’m beginning to suspect there's a beast in this castle who wants to train me.
Leashing the Alien is Book 2 in the Beastly Alien Boss Series. Each book is standalone and features a woman hired for an off-world job who meets a gruff alien who can’t resist falling for his fated mate.
AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.

🦸🏼♀️ The Heroine: Jenny
Jenny is the kind of heroine who refuses to be caged by tradition. Her father, cold and unfeeling, insists on perpetuating a family legacy of forced marriages. But Jenny is no passive participant — she stages a daring escape mid-ceremony, sprinting away from a life of control into the unknown. Her flight is both physical and symbolic, a declaration of independence. When she stumbles into the Intergalactic Employment Agency, fate intervenes. Though she’s never held a job, her natural affinity for animals lands her an assignment light-years away, where her compassion and courage will be tested in ways she never imagined. Jenny’s arc is one of defiance, resilience, and discovery — a heroine who embodies both vulnerability and strength.
🦸🏻♂️ The Hero: Venge
Venge is the quintessential brooding alien hero, steeped in loneliness and tragedy. Banished from his people, he lives in a crumbling castle with only his aunt, a loyal groundskeeper, and two fire-breathing cuulair pups for company. His solitude is not just emotional but existential: cursed with a gargoyle beast inside him that grows stronger each night, destined to kill him once it fully emerges. This looming fate defines his isolation, his reluctance to connect, and his simmering melancholy. Yet beneath the gruff exterior lies a man desperate for companionship, even if he doesn’t believe he deserves it. His attempt to tame the pups is less about control and more about reaching for a bond he fears will always elude him.
📚 The Plot
Jenny’s arrival at the castle ignites immediate tension. Venge’s mating marks flare to life, signaling a connection he cannot ignore. Yet he pushes her away, convinced his impending death makes love impossible. Jenny, however, is no shrinking heroine. Determined to carve her own path, she refuses to return to her father’s oppressive plans and instead digs deeper into Venge’s secrets. Her gift with animals wins over the pups instantly, and her gentle persistence begins to thaw Venge’s icy resolve. What unfolds is a slow-burn romance layered with danger, mystery, and the bittersweet awareness of time running out. The story balances gothic atmosphere with sci-fi adventure, weaving a tale that feels both timeless and futuristic.
🌟 What Worked
• Fresh world-building: Unlike many alien romances where Earthlings are abducted from a contemporary setting, this story imagines a future where humans and aliens coexist openly, with interstellar travel as routine as catching a bus. That twist makes the premise feel expansive and original. • Beauty-and-the-Beast echoes: Venge’s curse, his hidden beast, and the gothic castle backdrop create a fairy-tale resonance. Jenny’s warmth and resilience mirror Belle’s compassion, while the vast library and enchanted atmosphere add a deliciously romantic touch. • Emotional stakes: The looming threat of Venge’s transformation adds urgency, making every tender moment between him and Jenny feel fragile and precious.
💔 What Fell Short
• While the romance is undeniably steamy, certain alien-specific elements (like tail sex) may not appeal to all readers. For me, it pulled me out of the otherwise immersive flow.
🎙️ Narration
The dual narration by Patrick Zeller and Hollie Jackson elevates the story. Patrick’s deep, resonant voice perfectly embodies Venge’s hulking presence and tortured soul, while Hollie’s expressive delivery captures Jenny’s innocence, determination, and emotional growth. Though her tone skews slightly older than the typical ingénue, her warmth and nuance make Jenny feel grounded and relatable. Together, they bring the dual POVs to life with energy and authenticity.
💬 Final Thoughts
This audiobook blends gothic romance, sci-fi adventure, and fairy-tale magic into a unique alien love story. Jenny’s defiance and empathy make her a heroine worth rooting for, while Venge’s tragic curse adds depth to the brooding hero archetype. The narration enhances the emotional beats, ensuring listeners are swept into both the danger and tenderness of their journey. Despite a few elements that may not suit every taste, the originality of the worldbuilding and the emotional resonance of the romance make this a standout listen for fans of alien love stories with a dark, fairy-tale twist.
The human is nosy and tactless, constantly asks prodding and invasive questions, and keeps doing shit her employer and his staff tells her not to. The alien asks the human to a meeting where he's naked in the bathtub, and tries to get her to look at his cock.
I almost kept going to see how the gargoyle-thing gets resolved, but meh.
This series is very good, this book is about Venge and Jenny. Jenny has to Run away in the Middle of her own wedding. It is a forced marrige to steal her of her very hefty trust fund left by her grandmother, her dad and fiancy even put her with a shock bracelet so She doesn't Run away. Really evil guys. So what do you do when you want to Run away? You get a job in a almost deserted wolrd in the Edge of civility. Venge has some sort of curse and he moves to this planet to live his last months before the curse takes him down. But he is lonely and get some pets. Of course they are smal dragons that breath fire and can easily kill him, also they don't like him very much. That's how he ended ordering a pet trainer that ended up being the gourgeous Jenny that from the first Touch he knew was his Korier mate. The development is amazing and we see them evolving in their relations and some very fun pet training. Very easy to read.
This book should have a quote saying "Never judge a book by its cover"..Venge is needing a pet trainer to help him with his two culinaris (is that the correct spelling?) Little dragons... Anyways, Jenny just ranaway during her wedding. Not wanting to marry because her father wants her inheritances along with her soon to be husband Thurston. But, , once she meets Venge she notices his beauty but terrible manners. Curious to know why and why he wants her to immediately gone. But, once she is in his presences and shook her hand, He felt a burning sensation on his chest. He recognized heis attractions to the small human with sass and curiosity. But, he holds a secret that he must keep private between him and his aunt and housekeeper. Can he keep it? Will Jenny be able to help him train his pets and keep her distance from him and not touch him.
THis is a slow burn, with lots of teasing. And an Aunt who doesn't talk to Venge...which I still don't understand why..
While not as good as the first book, this was still super entertaining. It felt like an OTT version of a classic fairy tale, with almost a “camp” edge to it. It’s pure entertainment, not to be taken too seriously ;)
3.5 stars. So I know this is a light, don't think too hard about it read. But there were a little too many inconsistencies/glossed over or forgotten pieces for me. Like how she thinks there's no way he means it when he calls her mate even though he literally explained it in the first conversation they had ever. Or how her family/fiance is never mentioned again. Or how the diary she finds mentions not trusting the staff but... There was nothing to that. Or how they were terrified of this monster finding a mate and then murdering her but they just invite a single female to the island to live there without second thought.
I like easy reads but there is basically no sexual difference between the species. Like, he knows her anatomy immediately despite having no experience with humans. All the parts and all the mechanics of sex are exactly the same without question. It makes the fact that it is an alien book seem just... Insignificant.
I liked this Hero. And I liked how they tried to make this genetic anomoly scientific somehow instead of magic. And the sex was steamy. But I guess I am just looking for a bit more sense to the background story of the erotica.
Written in first person by Ava Ross, Leashing the Alien is book 2 in this Beastly Alien Boss series, and follows the alien gargoyle Vengestire (aka Venge) and his human employee Jenny. The set takes place in a time where alien worlds are familiar and intergalactic travel is common. Jenny was running from a forced marriage. She hid inside an employment agency on Earth on her wedding day (still wearing her wedding dress) and agreed to take a pet training job that offered immediate departure from the planet. Venge was a gargoyle who was banished to a castle on a desolate planet to live out his remaining days until he could no longer fight his inner beast, and the Gargoyle took hold. He hired a pet whisperer to help him train his newly acquired culair pups that he received from Kreel and Cora at the end of book 1. He got the culairs as pets to keep him company during his final days in isolation. Immediately upon arrival, Jenny sparked Venge’s mate mark, to which he tried to send her away. Because of what awaited her back home, Jenny was reluctant to be disposed of by Venge, and fought to keep her employment.
Jenny was Venge’s one true mate, verified by the instant skin tattoos he received. Venge fought the mate bond the hardest, unwilling to to allow a connection to someone when his death was inevitable, until he finally stopped fighting it and they came together in chapter 21, at the 52% mark. The buildup to that point was intense, both lusting after each other but refusing to act upon it, resorting to flirting and eye fucking each other from afar.
Aside from the abundant attraction and sexual encounters, Jenny spent her time training Venge’s pets and sneaking around the castle, determined to solve the mystery around Venge. So much wasted time and heartache could have been avoided had Venge just been straight with Jenny in the beginning. But alas, he chose to lie to his mate and push her away. He was lucky that Jenny was so tenacious and refused to give up on a future with him.
I will add that I was severely disappointed with the climax as it was, well, anticlimactic. Such a long winded buildup for a couple of paragraphs that said “you don’t have to die,” and then “oh, okay, cool.” 🙄 Also, I would have loved to see more of a resolution to Jenny’s father and fiancé, like a terrible accident from a mysterious stone creature.
The two lived happily ever after as mates. Jenny became pregnant in the epilogue. Everything worked out and the two were better for knowing and falling for one another.
I personally married my own boss, so I am totally here for this series. I am looking forward to diving into the next book in the series. I recommend this read, if this genre is in your wheelhouse. 🫶🏻

💜 “You make life worth living, mate. I cannot go on without you. ~~~ I really liked Jenny! She’s so kind, sweet, resourceful and compassionate. Even more, I absolutely adored her curiosity and her sharp wit. And she’s quite the pet whisperer. So, when she tries to escape an awful arranged marriage, she happily accepts a job on a remote small planet to train two pups. Little did she know that Fate has more plans for her and there is another beast that would need her more.
Venge is one tortured male. He hides a dangerous secret which only brings him pain and suffering. And it might cost him his life. It was so heartbreaking how lonely he is, despite his aunt and friend living with him. Nevertheless, Venge is such a wonderful male. Even more, he’s so honorable, strong, protective and sweet. I absolutely adored everything about him! Venge wants friendship and company so desperately and he adopts two small culair pups. But the trainer he hires might be more than he bargained for.
I loved everything that happened between Jenny and Venge. From the moment they met, their attraction was undeniable but both were unwilling to act on it . After everything Jenny’s been through she’s not willing to jump into a new relationship or let any male control her ever again. And Venge is not willing to hurt his mate with his curse and the beast he’s struggling to control. Nevertheless, I loved those two together, their chemistry was amazing. I loved how Jenny’s happy and calm nature fit so well with Venge’s grumpy and sad one. And I really enjoyed the moments they spent together training the culair pups (Fleese & Gular were absolutely adorable for fire breathing alien pets). Even more, I loved their banters and teasing. And when they finally gave in to their undeniable attraction, the passion they shared was scorching hot. Oh, I just loved all the knotty goodness! 😏 After everything both have been through, they more than deserved to find happiness and love with each other.
In addition, the worldbuilding was spectacular! I loved the Beauty and the Beast vibes. And with all the emotions, suspense, danger, curses and secrets I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, Leashing the Alien is another fantastic addition to the series and I loved every page of it!
Oh, where to start? I loved so much about this book! The heroine is Jennifer Arastellar, a feisty and courageous woman who derailed her forced marriage, right at the point in the ceremony where the pastor asks if there is anyone who can show just cause as to why the parties should not enter into the marriage. She was being forced into the marriage by her father so that he could control her inheritance. Jennifer is a “pet whisperer” and has a special way with animals; she had trained a flock of doves to divebomb her father upon her signal. When they did, she ripped off the ankle device he used to control her and raced out of the church. On the run in a wedding dress, she entered the Intergalactic Employment Agency before a tracker could lock onto her. She took the third job offered and found herself in a pod on the way to the planet Darkfire, where she would train the culair pups owned by Vengestire Rarkeleone Abesteen.
The moment Venge touched Jennifer, his body responded with a korier symbol across his chest. Venge is horrified as the korier indicates that Jennifer is his fated mate. Instead of accepting her, Venge insists that she not touch him again and further insists that she leave immediately, which she refuses to do as she was hired to do a job. But Venge is a man with secrets; secrets that he can’t share with Jennifer.
This book had an engaging plot, with several unexpected twists to it. There was sweetness and plenty of steam, plus there is one spot where you may want to have your Kleenex ready; at least, I needed my Kleenex! The culair pups were so cutely described that you wish you had a couple yourself. The “castle” in which Venge lived was well described as was the small portion of the world that was near said castle. The character development was truly well done to the point that you felt like you knew Venge and Jennifer, as well as the other two secondary characters. Altogether, this really was a great book and I think it’s my favorite book by Ava Ross thus far!
My rating: 5 + Stars!
I received a free copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily sharing this review.
There is a hint of beauty and the beast here which is my all-time favourite. It would make me love this book even more were it not for the fact that I love this author anyway. She's one of my absolute favourites. Read the book and you'll easily see why!Venge is very resigned to fate and yet he still seems to be hoping against hope that there might be something that he can do to put it all off for as long as possible. Taking on pets for instance, why would he do that when he knows he will not be there to watch them become fully grown? There has to be something in his subconscious telling him that there is another way. Which is grand and all but at the moment his pets seem to be trying to kill him. Great blasts of fire aimed at his person but he cannot bring himself to chain them up or leave them outdoors in all weathers to fend for himself. Again despite all he has been through so far, all he knows to be true he is a kind, gentle and genuine person. Other would rail against fate and take it out on everyone and anyone yet still he doesn't do this. Instead he decides that what he needs is a pet whisperer which he gets but it turns out to also be in the form of his mate. This could not be timed worse! Jenny has always known what her father thought of her. What she was not expecting was the extent of his avarice. He had run through all of her allowance and was now after her trust fund which she could only take on reaching 25 years of age although he had managed to circumvent that or on her marriage. So he plotted, found her a groom that he could manipulate and was shuttling her down the aisle, minus her usual jewellery of a shock anklet when she managed to break free and make to the Intergalactic Employment Agency. She takes the only job which is on practically unheard of planet in order to escape her fate. When she arrives the first thing her new boss does is tell her to leave. There is something going and she is determined to get to the bottom of it, that and well she hasn't anywhere to go right now either. Surely it can't hurt to stay where she is for now can it?
This story about Venge and Jenny is so good. Jenny is an animal whisperer- she can train/ calm any animal. Her father is forcing her to marry a creep, apparently a long time family tradition, and she has trained some doves. During the ceremony, the doves distract, she tears off the shock bracelet from her ankle and runs in her big, poufy dress. Really- what decent parent puts a shocker on their daughter's ankle and has used it. She gets a job on a distant planet and escapes. Venge is living under a family curse and is banished to this planet to live the rest of he life S0- he obtains two pets, pups really, called culairs. They can breathe fire. Fun, except one of them doesn't like Venge He's learned to move fast. Jenny arrived, they touch and she sets off his Koriar symbol His true mate. So, he immediately tells her to leave and she says no. So sassy and confident in her abilities as pet whisperer, she stays. But, she finds a mystery. Ava has written a wonderful tale- with a Beauty and the Beast feel to it Her world building and character descriptions allow the reader to be immersed in the story, living along with the characters through anger with her cruel father and fiancé, joy working with the pups, curiosity, danger, Venge's extreme sadness with hiding a terrible secret and exploring their love.
I loved this book. I know there will be (at least) four more books in this series after this one, but I have a feeling that this book will still be my favorite. Great world building and wonderful characters. The story was exciting right from the beginning as Jenny was being forced into an arranged marriage by her rich father to a lustful man she did not want. I was impressed by how smart and brave she was. That first chapter was pulse-pounding and suspenseful as she managed to escape not only the wedding, but the planet entirely by taking a off-world job opening at the last possible minute and getting out of harm's way. Venge is her new boss and hired someone to train his two alien pets to like him. He didn't expect Jenny to be his fated mate, and demanded she leave as soon as he saw her, which she refused. I loved the dynamic between the two of them. Venge won my heart right away. His loneliness and pain really made me sympathize with him. Jenny's skills and nature as a pet whisperer not only helped with the pets, but with Venge himself. And of course they have steamy chemistry. I liked the supporting characters as well. An excellent read! 5 stars.
This was an okay read. I found it more interesting to listen to than read. This is partially because I feel like this book could have been resolved quicker if the MMC was more open with the FMC about what was going on with him and it’s frustrating to read chapter after chapter of her begging for answers to not get any until the last few chapters of the book.
Speaking of the FMC she’s lucky this is a romance and not a horror movie or she would have died in the first few chapters. She repeatedly ignores direction and goes charging head first into the unknown a lot. She the type of character who walks through the door while viewers scream at her to run the other way. Luckily for her this is a romance so it works out for her in the end and this attitude helps to solve everything.
Although I didn’t love this book I do want to give it kudos for its gothic feel. I haven’t read a lot of other SFR that have that element and it was a nice change of pace. If you’re looking for an angsty quick read SFR this is a decent one to pick.
Jenny needs off planet like last month..between her hellish father and her "fiancée", Jenney says I can do better on a planet where I know nothing just as long as it it ain't here.
Venge is lost, mad, alone, and soooooooooo keeping a secret. But he knows there is something out there to help..he just doesn't think he has the time for it to happen.
Jenny shows up and she becomes nosy, in which Venge goes leave me alone and do your job since you gonna stay. Between Jenny being nosy and a busybody (all good) and Venge falling for her and proteccting her from who/what..the roller coaster ride is everything anyone could want..slow burning love, angst, possessiveness (on both sides), hella laughs and some steam that you have take ya glasses off to read.
Jenny is on the run from a forced marriage and takes a job as a pet whisperer for an alien named Venge. She realizes quickly that there are hidden depths to this alien, but what is he hiding? Venge suffers from a generational family curse, resigned to dying, here comes this impertinent, nosey human messing with his life and igniting desires he has to fight. I loved how their relationship grew as Jenny sought out his secrets. She taught him there is always hope and those two surely deserved their HEA! I absolutely adored this book, I found it to be imaginative and felt so sorry for poor Venge. I mean he REALLY suffered! Thank goodness for nosey humans and hidden passages. I received an ARC of this book and my review is voluntary. Just as an FYI, I also purchased the book!
Cover Blurb: I was hired to tame alien pets, but my beastly alien boss is determined to tame me. As a pet whisperer, I’ve yet to meet a snarling beast I can’t turn into a purring pussycat. I was so impressed with "Leashing the Alien." There was a bit of mystery, spicy romance, and best of all, loveable alien "pups." The FMC, Jenny, was trying to escape a wedding she wanted nothing to do with and fell into a job working for the MMC, Venge. Jenny is fabulous with animals and has a way of understanding the behaviors of any animal she helps. I have a thing for a tortured hero, one that is facing an obstacle that seems so daunting and overwhelming that he has no hope. It grabbed my heart and the way that Jenny gave him all that love and wanted to not only help his pets but help the male that was suffering. I highly recommend this book and suggest you read the previous one because both are lovely. Happy reading!
I loved how this story flows from book 1, and continues with Venge's story. Even if you did not read book 1, it is okay. Now back to this story; it was a great story and had a nice storyline with romance, hot spiciness, and a beauty/beast feel. Jenny was a versatile character and a stubbornness which helped her out a few times, I very much liked her. And, Venge, he was this big alien who you just feel for and will love because his past brings "the feels" and it plays with your heartstrings. But he is very much an alien you want and need, trust me, it gets hot. This was a great read and I didn't want it to end, I cannot wait for the next book now.
This story kept me on an emotional roller coaster! Jenny was feisty and funny, and Venge was funny and so heartbreakingly sad. This couple kept me laughing and ugly crying. I loved every minute! I also loved the culairs, Fleese and Gular. Nothing says fun like a pet that can roast you with a fireball! Lol! Even though I knew there would be a happily-ever-after ending, the last few chapters were heartbreaking! I had to stop reading a few times because I was crying too much to see the words! I loved that ending, though, so I “almost” forgave Ava Ross for squeezing my heart so hard! Overall, this was a fun, sweet, and spicy story! Looking forward to the next in the series
Good book, interesting storyline.. kinda makes me think of Beauty & the Beast + Gargoyles (curse) but different too 🕊️🕊️🕊️🕊️ lucky for her those birds were amazing!!! 💜very much loving this fated mate, tattoo/markings appearing thing💜 ⚡️wishful thinking for that zap-collar on Daddy-Dearest and ex-finance for some revenge therapy😈
❓thought he has beautiful white hair & a fluffy-tip tail…cover is different FYI😶

really disappointed, this story could’ve been so much more
Whereas book 1 had extra thrills and intrigue, this one just didn’t. With the way this story went, it could easily have been several thousand words shorter. It really dragged, which bummed me out because I love Venge and Jenny’s characters. I also loved the culairs.
And yet I felt the story focused too hard on parts of the story that could’ve happened in passing. I love Ava Ross’ writing, which makes this extra disappointing. It took me three days to finish this book, and I’m a fast reader. I just kept putting it down and walking away.
Venge is on his final days. He has only his aunt Azareela (step in mother), his loyal friend Ressard plus his two culairs pups Fleese and Gular. Now he just needs to tame his pups to get two final friends before he meets his fate. Jenny is here to tame the pups. She might just want to tame Venge too. He is one tall drink of water, even if he is now her boss. She is a person who cannot not help if she is able. So who better to tame the cries she hears every night. Maybe even get a HEA in the process.
This was a fab follow-up to book one and I really enjoyed how easy it was to read - and how quickly I was invested in Jenny and Venge. They had instant and sizzling chemistry that lead to a hot romance and fun banter. Of course, not everything goes smoothly for them, not the least being that there are secrets between them. Expect to be whisked away on a wonderful reading adventure full of drama, danger, suspense, emotions, sass and steamy romance. It was highly entertaining and I'm looking forward to more ;D
This is a quick and enjoyable retelling of Beauty and the Beast, only the beast in this one is an alien. Jenny is a strong woman who has managed her escape from a forced marriage. Her new job to tame and train a pair of culair pups, puts her in the orbit of Venge- who has his own beastly secrets. Almost out of time, Venge is nearly past hope, but Jenny's strength is exactly what he needs! A fast read featuring an alien beast/Monster and a fated mates storyline, this is a sci-fi romance that lovers of the genre will enjoy!
Venge is facing certain death! A genetic disease is causing him to lose control of his body to his Gargoyle form. Jenny is his fated mate. She believes his true mate can save him! But can she convince both Venge and his friend that the love of a true mate is the cure Venge needs to save his life. Will she find them in time before his friends ends his life believing he is saving others from the terrible and deadly beast Venge becomes after sundown? Enjoy!
For me there are three schools of reading, the fair food (cotton candy and everything fried...meaning not super deep or life changing. A pallet cleanser).
And that is what this book is. So I score it accordingly.
Jenny is escaping an arranged marriage to someone who only cares about her inheritance.
Venge is cursed to slowly become a dangerous creature so he is exiled to a planet to await his fate.
This is a cute, spicy, quick read alien romance that doesn't have the abduction trope. I enjoyed it and will continue the series.
This was fun but I liked the first one in this series better. Venge had an affliction that turned him into a sort of gargoyle. Jenny was on the run from an arranged marriage and took a job as a pet trainer for Venge. Neither one expected the attraction they felt to each other. I loved the action, drama and suspense as well as the interactions between these two. It was enjoyable and I finished in one sitting.
I've become addicted to monster love stories! Jenny and Venge were definitely an odd couple, but with her escape from her doom, she finds a dude ready to embrace his own. The spark between these two characters grows, she doesn't quit, no matter how often he fires her. It's just who she is. I loved this story, and these two characters made it easy. I'm reading them out of order, but it's okay because they seem to be stand-alone stories that are connected by characters surviving for love.
Am so glad to finish this segment of the Leashing the Alien series. Male = intelligent, caring, loving while facing a deadly illness. Female = disregards privacy, snooping, all about personal wants, silly. It is so dissatisfying for female to be childish and disrespectful of homeowners property and privacy. Also did I mention impulsive to a degree of self endangering?
