A steamy friends to lovers romance that breaks the bro-code…big time!
Gio is blessed with a big family and lots of friends. Unfortunately, there’s an unspoken code amongst his buddies…one where sisters are off-limits. That wouldn’t be a problem if he and his best friend, Rafe, could stop thinking about Kayden’s vivacious, fun-loving little sister, Keeley. They have always been stand-up guys, but Keeley is so tempting, so sexy, that they’re in danger of breaking all the rules.
Keeley’s not exactly batting a thousand when it comes to life. She just lost her job and her only true talent seems to be picking the worst guys on the planet from online dating sites. However, her uneventful life takes a turn for the steamy after Rafe hires her to work for him and he and Gio start crashing all her bad dates.
When one kiss lead to a second and then to something much, much more, the lovers are left to decide if they’re engaging in a fun fling or embarking on forever.

This is the sort of friends-to-lovers romance that I can get into!
The story pacing was excellent (very easy and natural), the chemistry between Keeley, Rafe and Gio was great, and I found the relationship development believable… even though it’s a MFM friend-to-lovers romance. Set in a maybe haunted mansion. 😂
Another winner in Mari Carr’s Italian Stallions series!
This is book 3 in Mari Carr's Italian Stallions series. While each book covers a different relationship and stands well on it's own, the series is best enjoyed in order.
Carr is really making me enjoy MFM more than I usually do. The connection between Keeley, Rafe, & Gio even when there's no romance between the men is really strong and well done. I loved the Brother's Friend/Friend's Brother and employee/boss tropes as well as all the banter. There's a fun haunted mansion with meddling ghosts element that was delightful.
Some things that didn't quite work for me (spoilers):
Overall I enjoyed Rafe, Gio, & Kelley's story and am looking forward to continuing the series.
Narration: Marina Barrett, Theo Sinclair, & Oliver Highpoint continue to do a great job narrating the series. They complement each other well and I like that they give all the characters unique voices. While there was one section (ch 15) from Keeley's perspective yet was narrated by Highpoint, the rest was well done.
Rough and Ready is full of chemistry and spiciness. Keeley, Gio and Rafe have and amazing friendship and care for one another. It felt natural for their relationship to evolve the way it did. Their attraction was bubbling under the surface and all it took was one kiss for it to light up the world around them. There was a natural progression to this relationship that I really liked, and it fit to who these characters are. Sometimes in a throuple romance it can be hard to see the uniqueness of personalities, but Mari Carr does a spectacular job of showing us who these characters and how different they are but how they fit together. Gio and Keely are all in. They are outload with their feelings and expressive. Rafe is more reserved, he is more cautious and thoughtful with how he shares himself with the world. Rough and Ready is book 3 in the Italian Stallion Series and can be read as a standalone. Full review at Bookcaseandcoffee.com
Rough and Ready is the 3rd book in the Italian Stallion Series and can be read as a standalone. I love Mari Carr's books she does a wonderful job of giving us insight into each of these characters. Rafe is more the more reserved, cautious and thoughtful about his life and what kind of relationship he wants how different, Gio and Keely are they all in from the beginning of their menage. They are open with their feelings and very expressive, with lots of hot scenes. I loved this book and can't wait for the next one.
So hot! And as always, Mari Carr hits hard with those emotions!
Rough and Ready is the third in her incredible Italian Stallions series, and is a seriously sexy older brother’s best friends, friends to lovers ménage. Each story in the series is full of the sheer physical and emotional joy of falling in love, and Rough and Ready is no exception.
Rafe and Gio have been best friends since childhood, and Keeley’s older brother Kayden is another of their closest friends. What starts out as them keeping a friendly eye on Keeley on a string of bad first dates morphs into a revelation of deeper feelings on all their parts.
Mari Carr’s characters are real and so well written, and each story is brimming over with not only the passion of the new relationship but also with the warm sense of friendship and community that encompasses their lives.
I like this author, she's the queen of writing big family saga series, and also what I call *everyday menage" but this book feels like I've read this story too many times before, only the names and details are changed.
In a rut, Keeley has just lost her job, her apartment rent increased and she hasn’t had a good first date in months. Unfortunately, the guys she finds swoon worthy also happen to be her brother’s best friends. While Gio may flirt and Rafe gives good hugs, she knows they will never see her as anything but Kayden’s little sister.
After Rafe inherits his late uncle Albert’s estate, he’s left with a huge mansion filled with paperwork and a handful of random businesses left to run. When he discovers Keeley needs a job, it only makes sense to hire her to help him find his way out from under the boxes of paperwork as he navigates his new reality. And, when Keeley suggests the mansion they’re clearing out would make the perfect inn, Gio jumps on board as well.
The more time they spend together, the bigger Keeley’s crush gets . . . and, the more Gio and Rafe think of breaking all of the bro code rules when it comes to Keeley. But, with Rafe’s fear of love and commitment, will this new attraction be a brief affair, or will it become what they’ve all been missing in their lives . . . a happy ever after?
I adored Rough and Ready! Keeley, Gio and Rafe have known one another for years and have a strong friendship before they ever act on their attraction, giving them an amazing base to build from. I loved how organically things seemed to happen . . . even if this throuple needed a few pushes from Uncle Albert and Aunt Marta to get them to fully dive into their relationship.
While Gio and Keeley are extremely demonstrative when it comes to their flirting and feelings, Rafe is much more reserved. They are also opposites when it comes to jumping in vs over thinking, which adds both tension, but also balance. I appreciated how Mari Carr balances each relationship in this trio . . . as all are important in order to make something long lasting work. I also loved that it wasn’t smooth sailing.
Rough and Ready had a really fun element of a good old fashioned ghost story, which added some unexpected light heartedness to this romance. It was also insanely hot and steamy while having some extremely sweet and romantic moments as well giving readers lots to really sink their teeth into throughout the book. 5 stars!
Brother's best friend...times two! That's what Keeley gets when she starts working for one of her brother Kayden's best friends. And he idea to turn his newly inherited, run-down mansion brings the other bff, Gio into the mix as well. While both men have always seen her as just Kayden's baby sister, sparks fly when they are all in close proximity. Which is now constantly. While other friends and family members are living threesome relationships, there's a lot at stake for Keeley and the guys, especially since Gio can see them lasting forever and Rafe is closed off to anything other than a fling. Keeley can see herself falling for them both, but what happens if Rafe walks away instead. I loved everything about this story. From the differences in Gio and Rafe's personalities to their caring of each other's feelings as well as Keeley's. Each character brings something different to the relationship, with an added surprise of a different side of Rafe that even Gio has never seen before. And the added fun of possible ghosts haunting the old house was a fun twist as well. Although this is part of a The Italian Stallion series, it can be read alone. But readers like me who have been around since book one, we get to see characters from the previous books pop by for a visit. And what's always a plus. Mari Carr is one of my must read, favorite authors for a reason...and she proves it again with this book.
Keeley feels like she's failing at life. Everything seems to be going wrong. She just lost her job and the guys she has been dating from online dating sites are jerks. Too bad she can't find a guy like Gio or Rafe. They are both stand up guys and she is sure they know how to treat a woman.
Gio has a big family. One of those close, always got your back families. He has always had his eye on Keeley. Unfortunately, she is his friend Kayden's little sister. There is that unwritten bro code that says you don't mess with your friend's little sister. Too bad because she is so tempting. She is everything Gio could want.
Rafe vowed never to get married. He had a bad home life growing up and he doesn't want that. He'll just keep serial dating. But he isn't doing much of that lately. He recently inherited his grandfather's companies and his house. He has been trying to go through all of the papers and boxes his grandfather left and make sense of them. He could really use some help. When he finds out Keeley is looking for work, he hires her. That might not have been the best idea because being around Keeley all day is going to very tempting.
When one kiss becomes more kisses between all three of them, how will Keeley choose one of the men. But she soon finds that maybe she doesn't have to choose at all.
Fantastic Read! Gio Rafe & Keeley Are a Perfect Match!!
Keeley has known has know Gio and Rafe most of her life due to fact that they are friends with her brother Kayden. Kayden and Keeley are extremely close due to the loss of their parents when Keeley was younger. So, unfortunately due to the “bro code” they won’t go there with Keeley. And no matter how much she flirts, her one thought is they cannot know how she really feels.
What Rafe hadn’t counted on was not only Gio and Keeley but some unearthly help. That help comes from the ghosts residing in Rafe’s house, his grandparents. Because they want him to be happy, they feel that Keeley is the woman for him and unfortunately, they have a big job because their grandson, because of his upbringing keeps his heart on lockdown. Eventually the heart wants what the heart wants, that is at least for Gio and Keeley. In the beginning Rafe was there but when he realized that they were catching feelings, so he distanced himself. There was only one problem----he wasn’t as distant as he thought. Because Keeley was different, and he needed to decide if he could live without her.
Will they figure it out before Kayden gets home? How do they tell him let alone how will he react? The answer will surprise them all.
Rough and Ready by Mari Carr is a friends little sister romance that I listened on audio narrated by Marina Barrett, Theo Sinclair, and Oliver Highpoint. This is the third book in the Italian Stallions series.
I really enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Gio, Rafe, and Keeley. I liked that we got all of their points of views throughout the story. It really brought the story to life.
I can't wait to dive into the next book in the series Wild and Wicked so I can get Gianna and Elio's story.
Marina, Theo, and Oliver did a great job on the narration. I look forward to listening to more of their work in the future.
I would recommend this book if you like friend's little sister romance, friends to lover's romance, boss romance, or contemporary romance.
What an amazing story of friendship first, attraction and then love. Rage, Gage and Keeley have had a friendship for some time, the guys always seeing her as one of their friend’s baby sister, saw her as off limits. One kiss, that’s where their destiny changed.
Oh my goodness, I just cannot even begin to express how fun this story was to read, just the amazing friendship that our trio has, their banter and just how amazingly they were meant to be.
One of my other favorite parts is the haunted mansion, Uncle Albert and Marta and Cricket, wait until you read about it all.
But one of the guys doesn’t feel he can love, what will it take from the other two to make him see and feel how to be loved and give it back in return Mari Carr packs so much emotion into her stories, at one point I’m laughing, then I’m wiping the tears, and let’s not forget that she also knows how to write some very steamy scenes.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
I have been patiently waiting for the next couple in this series and it was so worth the wait! Keeley, Gio and Rafe journey was a brothers best friend that heats up when they finally takes the next step to be together. Although Gio and Rafe has had a history together with having relationships with one woman, Keeley is different with all the emotions that she brings to life in them. But can they find their HEA when one of guys feet is already out of the door? One click to find out in this newest release that doesn’t disappoint with a steamy storyline and swoon worthy characters that will have you cheering for the HEA.
Mari Carr writes like no one else! I have loved every book in the Wild Irish series, the Wilder Irish series, and now the Italian Stallion series. FYI, these all go together, so if this is the first book you are reading, do yourself a favor and read the others!!! In Rough and Ready, we get to read about Gio, Rafe, and Keely's story. Keely is in the "off limits" category, but Gio and Rafe are having a hard time with it. As you read this, you will not only be rooting for their happy ending, but you will also be wowed (is that a word?) by how hot the 3 of them are together. I can't wait for the next book!!!.
Find out why everyone is asking “What is up with Baltimore???” Keely, Rafe, and Gio give us one hot and steamy ride, full of fun and feelings. In a classic best-friends little sister (X2), years of harmless flirting becomes real when lines are blurred. Time alone only deepens the feelings and make it seem like an HEA is an easy leap, but a third of their trio has some issues to work through. Persistence and patience (a really hard thing for our scheming duo) finally have him seeing the light, and our trio can start to plan their lives together <3 Of course, this was all facilitated with help from the friendly ghosts of Albert and Marta
The 3rd book in the series, Rough and Ready is very unique and can easily be read as a stand-alone, but I guarantee that you will want to read up on the others once you've finished it! There are soo many laugh-out-loud moments, two very hot, genuinely nice heroes and a heroine who's just adorable with loads of chemistry between them. There's also a haunted mansion, a treasure hunt and an over-protective older brother. I can promise that you'll finish this book with a smile on your face. Can't wait for the next one!.

Once again author Mari Carr gives us a steamy and emotional story with all the feels in her latest book, Rough and Ready in the Italian Stallions series. Gio and Rafe are best friends who have shared women in the past but that’s where it ends with no HEA for either of them. Rafe doesn’t believe in love, but will Gio and Keeley be able to change his mind this time with extra help from Grandpa Albert’s spirit? These three had amazing chemistry in and out of the bedroom and I loved seeing the family interaction and friendships throughout this book. Looking forward to reading more in this series.
Keeley's frustration with the dating scene is one that many have struggled with. It's difficult to find someone to belong with, someone who can build you up but also keep you humble; someone who can love you intensely, but also keep you on an even keel; someone who will support all your efforts but also show you where you need help. Rough and Ready's chemistry is well showcased: friendship, brotherhood and relationships that push the boundaries. Gio and Rafe have a history beyond simple friendship and the introduction of Keeley to their love life proves that attraction is exactly what you allow it to be.
Love these sweet and steamy romances by Mari Carr! Filled with a slow burn brother’s best friends forbidden love story with some friendly and helpful ghosts in an old dusty mansion. Keeley is no longer just their best friend’s little sister for Gio and Rafe. The more time they begin spending together, the harder it is to hold back the feelings brimming to the top! So good!.

Mari Carr hits the jackpot with her latest! If you love her Wild Irish & Wilder Irish series, you’ll love this 3rd installment of the “spin off” series. The Moretti boys are HAWT and Gio is no exception! Gio, Keeley & Rafe are perfect together!! And the ghost element adds even more fun to the story. I promise, you’ll love this book. Five stars, two thumbs up & a promise this book will end up on “read again & again” list!!!
I love the way this relationship evolves. It takes a while for our trio to get on the same page but the witty repartee and character revelries kept me smiling and added depth to their portrayals. The pacing is perfect, there is never a dull moment. Keeley, Gio, and Rafe are all wonderful people. The supporting cast whets the appetite for more stories. A joy to read.
Individually Gio, Rafe and Keeley are exceptional but together, there is nothing better. Mari’s penmanship makes you feel like part of the story, as if it’s playing out right in front of you and this love story will keep you enthralled to the very end. Keeley is so much fun and I especially loved how she teased her men. They are all good friends but their burning chemistry is undeniable. One kiss and everything they thought they had under control evolved into so much more. Of course Albert and Marta were a fantastic twist to their tale.

I enjoyed this book most of the series thus far. Besides Jess in the first book who highly annoyed me, even mention of her in the 2nd book annoyed me, I enjoy all of the characters. That's what's keeping me reading. I want to hang out with these Moretti's. I'm not even here for the sexy anymore. I enjoy this big family and their friends. I get excited to know what's going on as though they're real people.
Wasn't a perfect book but I noticed it gets better as the author goes on. Not so many tropes.
Rough and ready is the third book in the Italian Stallion series by Mari Carr. This book finds good friends Gio, Rafe, and Keely’s story. What is up with Baltimore? Gio and Rafe have seen their friend Kayden’s little sister Keeley grow up. They have been fighting their attraction because she is their good friend’s little sister. As life unfolds they find themselves drawn to each other. Can it work? Can they break through Rafe’s walls? Mari Carr has written a heartwarming yet steamy contemporary romance that I couldn’t put down.
With characters that pulled me into the story and a plot that didn't let me go this book is an instant read again and you will find new details each reread coz these characters are so three dimensional that theres always something to discover.
Oh my! This book had me hooked! I loved it. What happens when you mix best friends and one of their closest friends little sister? A whole lotta steam. That is after all the crashed dates, lost job, ghosts, and overcoming the past. Keeley has crushed on Gio and Rafe for years. The issue? They are friends with her brother. And there is a bro code going on. One thing leads to another in this book and well...why choose. Gio and Rafe have done everything together...include share women in the past. They both want Keeley but will she be up for what they have to offer. The next issue is Rafe and his need to run. He doesn't do love, so what will change his mind? These three have a long road to their HEA and oh what a journey!
This is the story of best friends Gio & Rafe, and the attraction they decide to explore together with one of their closest friends’ little sister, Keeley.
I could not stop reading their story, it has love, secret romance, and even a little mystery.
This is a fantastic addition to the Italian Stallion series and I cannot wait for more!
Undeniable... it's undeniable how long they kept their feelings in the background but one kiss changed it all. It was like a match and I loved reading it all unfold beautifully. They all had their own hangups but in the grand scheme of things it wouldn't be held back. I want more from them and the Haunted Mansion ;)
