After her mother unexpectedly passes away, April is bombarded with extreme sympathy and sadistic reminders from those around her. Her rebellious ways of dealing with this unleash a series of events that causes April to plunge into the depths of PTSD and her personality switches. Will her bond with her best friend Ilana, and her new friend, the sole heir to Adiso Enterprises, Caleb Wilfred, help her break free from her traumatic behavior?
At only 18 years old April suddenly loses her mother in a tragic accident and her life is thrown upside down. Not sure which way is up, April acts in chaotic and unpredictable ways with her family, friends and classmates. When it all becomes too much to handle, April sets off on a destructive path that will alter her life forever.
The writing style is simple which makes this book a really fast read. I thought the bones of the story were good, but I would have liked to see a more in-depth description of some of the characters' actions and feelings. This is a character driven piece with a lot of dialogue. At times the dialogue felt forced, but overall it helped keep the momentum of the story. The ending is also very abrupt and I don’t know if the author is leaving this story up for book two; it would work either way.
I was given the opportunity to read this little novella from the author and give an honest review!
First I wanted to talk trigger warnings. There are a couple to be made aware of.
Death of a loved one Self harm Bullying
April Reese is your average teenage girl going to school and living her best teenage life when an unthinkable tragedy happens. From here we follow April through the ups and downs of grief while she also battles bullies and mental illness. We see what a true friendship looks like because her best friend never leaves her side through all of this. Her dad also has to learn to parent a daughter who is on this emotional rollercoaster while he is also grieving.
I think this story has really good bones. I love the direction it went and I did want to keep the pages turning. I do feel like it had a few plot holes that I would have liked to see develop a little bit more. My only other issue was I felt the ending was quite rushed. I wanted to know more about April’s healing and how she got there. It just kind of abruptly ended and left me feeling like I missed something.
All in all this is was a good read and I think the author is on the right track!

April Reese is a sweet and intellectual teen who goes to school with her best friend Ilana when her mother dies unexpectedly in a tragic accident. We follow April through a rollercoaster of emotions, dealing with bullies and mental illness whilst grieving her mother.
The storyline and plot is good, I also really like the cover illustration for this novella. I feel the ending is a bit rushed though.
Overall this novella had me engaged and I wanted to keep reading.
