The Sweet Spot

Rate this book
Amy Poeppel brings her signature “big-hearted, charming” (The Washington Post) style to this wise and joyful novel that celebrates love, hate, and all of the glorious absurdity in between.

In the heart of Greenwich Village, three women form an accidental sorority when a baby—belonging to exactly none of them—lands on their collective doorstep.

Lauren and her family—lucky bastards—have been granted the use of a spectacular brownstone, teeming with history and dizzyingly unattractive 70s wallpaper. Adding to the home’s bohemian, grungy splendor is the bar occupying the basement, a (mostly) beloved dive called The Sweet Spot. Within days of moving in, Lauren discovers that she has already made an enemy in the neighborhood by inadvertently sparking the divorce of a couple she has never actually met.

Melinda’s husband of thirty years has dumped her for a young celebrity entrepreneur named Felicity, and, to Melinda’s horror, the lovebirds are soon to become parents. In her incandescent rage, Melinda wreaks havoc wherever she can, including in Felicity’s Soho boutique, where she has a fit of epic proportions, which happens to be caught on film.

Olivia—the industrious twenty-something behind the counter, who has big dreams and bigger debt—gets caught in the crossfire. In an effort to diffuse Melinda’s temper, Olivia has a tantrum of her own and gets unceremoniously canned, thanks to TikTok.

When Melinda’s ex follows his lover across the country, leaving their squalling baby behind, the three women rise to the occasion in order to forgive, to forget, to Ferberize, and to track down the wayward parents. But can their little village find a way toward the happily ever afters they all desire? Welcome to The Sweet Spot.

Crowded, retro, 70’s style Waverly Place brownstone building / lovely Greenwich Village theme with lots of unique, quirky, entertaining characters: another enjoyable novel from Amy Poeppel.

I honestly focused on Lauren’s disorganized family gang a little more: nerdish professor husband Leo, three sweet- quirky kids, highly energetic-adorable dog: I loved each of them as soon as I got introduced with; including good hearted, artsy Lauren: a ceramic artist whose ability attracted social media attention and helped her gain enough followers to start her business.

The other two women’s stories were also interesting ( but I still wished to read more about Lauren’s family because in my opinion they deserve their own book)

Lauren and Melinda’s lives intercepted by their mutual connect with Felicity: a boutique owner, TV host, successful entrepreneur. The same woman is Lauren’s mentor who was encouraged by Lauren to chase her happiness. But chasing happiness also meant raising illegitimate child of a married man and steal him from his wife. That’s where Melinda’s revenge story starts. Melinda is the wife who has abandoned by her husband because of Felicity. She lost her PR job and now she lost her husband. She’s seeing red and she’s creative enough to find ways to avenge people who did wrong to her.

Felicity is her arch nemesis and poor Lauren is also at her sh*t list because she made a mistake to support Felicity to take a chance with her love. She didn’t know Melinda and she thought her marriage was already over when she gave Felicity the relationship advise.

Olivia is the youngest character who is caught in the crossfire, suffering from big debt, trying to soothe down Melinda which is impossible task when she also deals with her own anger management issues.

Both of the characters were flawed, relatable, eccentric. The story is a little long and there are enough materials for more than two books. But the writing style and characterization are amazing so I still enjoyed each chapter and took my time to absorb each stories. Normally reading a bunch of characters might be a little confusing and I don’t prefer it but this book is so exceptional and I still enjoyed to spend more time with those vivid characters.

Overall: I’m giving my four unique, smart female characters, dysfunctional family and girl power stars. I’m looking forward to read the future works of the author sooner.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Atria Books for sharing this amazing digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions.

What a wonderful book! 4.5 stars

This is a novel about family--both the ones related and the ones that become a part of things. It's a book about misunderstandings and revenge, about forgiveness, making up, and discovering what you really want in life.

This tale has a large cast of characters, and discovering how they all fit together, in both good and bad ways, it part of the joy of the reading. At first it is a challenge to keep all of them and their connections straight, but once you do it is just a delightful read.

It's a book filled with humor and heart, and I smile thinking about my experience reading it. I will miss these characters.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book was madcap, it was like watching a Three Stooges episode or a Laurel and Hardy movie; I loved that about it. I can't count how many times I literally laughed out loud. I enjoyed so much about this story. I loved Evelyn's character development, the precocious kids were so sweet and funny and heartwarming, the sophistication of Phillip added a touch of class, and the artistic Lauren is a busy mom trying to get her career off the ground again, and who could forget the nerdy Leo who is all heart. The unruly dog Bumper and the Gerbil Pixel that bites just adds to the chaos. I really hated the selfish Russell and felt so bad for his ex-wife, the heartbroken Melinda. I was happy to see her come into her own without him though.

This novel was witty, charming, and engaging while focusing on love, family, dating, friendship, and community. I would love to be friends with Lauren and her family, they were the highlight of the book for me. I adored most of the quirky characters...flaws and all. This is the perfect book for a pick-me-up.

I really enjoyed this novel. It’s very funny and touching.

Lauren and her family get to live a brownstone in Greenwich Village while a family member is away. Lauren’s art is really taking off since a style guru has started promoting her work, so things would seem to be going well, except she inadvertently made an enemy of a woman she’s never met, and this woman is making her already complicated life much more complicated.

Melinda’s husband of thirty years left her for a younger woman, and, even worse, is having a baby with her. Melinda’s mission is to destroy Felicity and her business and everyone she believes led to her life going off the rails.

Olivia’s career was on the rise until an unhinged woman verbally attacks her and Olivia loses her cool—unfortunately as a TikTok enthusiast is taping the exchange—only posting the part where Olivia seems to be saying the customer isn’t good enough to shop here.

All of the characters are well drawn. I loved the comic relief provided by Lauren’s three children. There’s a lot of humor throughout, but the way the kids get stuff adorably wrong is hilarious.

Recommend. NetGalley provided an advance reader copy of this book, which RELEASES JANUARY 31.

This delightful novel hit my sweet spot, not flimsy or heavy but light and humorous with appealing characters that I wish were my neighbors. It centers around a family in Greenwich Village whose home expands when their lives intersect with several other characters. I like a good "found family" trope and this one made me feel warm and fuzzy without any eye rolls.

Thank you to Simon and Schuster for sending me the ARC.

In New York City, a group of women form unlikely friendships when they are brought together by forces of fate--and a baby. There's Lauren and her children, who just moved into a brownstone gifted by her husband Dan's father. But Lauren quickly makes an enemy in Melinda by hastening her divorce. Melinda's been dumped by Russell for Felicity, who runs a fancy shop that sells Lauren's art. At said shop works Olivia, who is unceremoniously fired after a video of her goes viral. Add in Evelyn, Lauren's uppity mother, who comes to stay for the weekend, but winds up not leaving. These women are on a crash course collision--tempers are running high--and oh yeah, Felicity is pregnant!

This is an incredibly charming book that made me laugh out loud on multiple occasions! I truly loved it--some of these characters are crazy, some are downright lovable, some are silly, but I was completely caught up in their wild and chaotic lives. Lauren and Dan have three children who add to the insanity, and soon we have a visit from Dan's father too. There's an untrained dog, a biting gerbil, and a bar in the basement of the brownstone. But at its core, SPOT is an endearing look at families--both your own and the ones you find and make on your own. It delves into motherhood, marriage, friendship, and love (and, sometimes, hate).

The story can meander a bit, but ultimately it's such a lovely and witty read that I did not care. This is such a sweet and fun book. 4.5 stars.

The last 12 months of my life have been full of a lot of sorrow, a lot of joy, and a lot of pain. At the beginning of this time, I read one of my favorite books of 2022, NORA GOES OFF SCRIPT by Annabel Monaghan. It hit me right in the feels, and now, almost a year later, it has happened again with THE SWEET SPOT. It’s not lost on me that these two stories are the bookends of one of the most trying times of my life, and I love them both so equally and dearly that I want to keep them on my beside table forever.

What I loved about THE SWEET SPOT…

Multiple POVs. A huge, dysfunctional (but mostly lovable) cast. Multi generational, eccentric characters. Most of them living in a house that is so well described and wildly decorated that it is basically a character itself. And, of course, a big goofy dog to round out all the perfection that was this book.

This story had me laughing, tearing up, emotionally connected, and really not wanting it to end. It read like a sitcom with so much heart, it felt that the pages may explode with joy. Full of color, wit, sarcasm, and love, there is no chance that THE SWEET SPOT won’t make my top 10 of 2023.

Books like this one remind me of why I read, and what it feels like to burst with genuine affection for characters that aren’t even real. Escaping into the pages of THE SWEET SPOT was the most excellent ending to the last chaotic year of my life, and provided me with the respite I needed from reality. Thank you, Amy Poeppel for this little gem of perfection. I will cherish this story and characters for years to come.

The novel's cover is colored in red and pink and reminds me of a valentine. The book is a romantic comedy and was released just before Valentine's Day. It's best to think of it as a delicious box of chocolate candy - sweet, fun and fluffy.

The story takes place in NYC and focuses on the residents of a brownstone in Greenwich Village. A scientist and his artist wife (Leo and Lauren), their three young children and dog live in the top floors. "The Sweet Spot" is a bar that exists in the basement. The building itself is historic, graceful and dated with wallpaper and furnishings from the 1970's. The parents are a bit eccentric and permissive. The kids are energetic and can be a handful. The bar has a separate entrance and a life of its own (as well as a handsome bar-keeper).

This is a plot-centered book that has a lot going on in it, including but not limited to romance. There are other key characters as well. My favorite character was grandmother Evelyn, who at first disapproved of how her children were living, but found herself taking charge during a family emergency and then did not want to leave the household.

The novel would have had a 4 star rating from me, had the romance (portion of the book) been more believable. That aside, if you are in the mood for a lighter read, this is a good choice.

A brownstone in Greenwich Village is the setting of this delightful story. Lauren Shaw, a potter trying to juggle her growing business while raising three children, lives in the home with Leo Aston, her husband. Leo is a professor, and the old brownstone, still with 70s decor, is his childhood home. The Sweet Spot is the name of a bar, which is situated below the brownstone and run by Dan. Felicity Winn, a TV home-makeover personality comes into their lives creating havoc. She decides to order Lauren's ceramic works for her local boutique. Russell, Felicity's baby's father, leaves Melinda, his wife of 30 years to run off with his much younger girlfriend. Melinda decides to seek revenge on Russell, Felicity and Lauren (who she believes helped contribute to the breakup of her marriage). Dan's daughter Olivia, who worked for Felicity, gets caught in the crossfire and after losing her job, becomes the nanny for Lauren and Leo's children. The situation gets even messier when Felicity's baby is born and the lives of all these characters become intertwined.

The Sweet Spot by Amy Poeppel is a charming, enjoyable tale filled with over-the-top, funny occurrences. I loved that the book was set in Greenwich Village and the brownstone was so well described. The characters are quite a quirky bunch especially Melinda, the initially bitter, scorned wife who cooks up some mean-spirited ways of seeking revenge. Everyone in the book is ultimately seeking their own sweet spot and how nice that a group of such different people can ultimately come together to make that happen. When it's time to read something joyful and light, check this book out.

Rated 4.25 stars.

What a pleasant surprise this turned out to be! There's a large cast of characters to keep track of with each bringing something unique to this heartwarming and very funny story of family and found friendships. Leo and Lauren along with 3 kiddos plus one rather rambunctious dog live in a retro brownstone in the heart of Greenwich Village, complete with The Sweet Spot, a bar in its basement catering to locals. One simple statement "follow your heart" sets in motion a string of comical happenstance that leads a group of misfits to become entwined with each other. I loved being the proverbial fly on the wall and watching this story unfold. No plot is necessary here, the characters carried the narrative forward. Filled with a quirky ensemble of lovables and a little taste of chaos, it was a delight!

This was a delight!

A quirky, character study with the most delicious cast of darlings. I chuckled out loud multiple times, and couldn't get over some of the shenanigans these characters get into! I do think the back over slightly mis-markets this as three women coming together to take care of a baby. That really doesn't come into play until about 60% in.

Lauren Shaw is an artist that makes ceramics with life like insects on it. She's filling orders for home maven Felicity Wynn's storefront. She's living in a walkup filled with her science teacher husband, and her three kids, and floofy pup. Life is chaos in waiting and she invites her uptight mother, Evelyn to come help out until they can hire a proper nanny. There is a bar downstairs (The Sweet Spot) and enter Melinda, whose husband is having an affair and ends up having a baby and leaving her. Melinda goes on the most epic revenge rampage I've ever seen. Gasps all around with the antics she pulls, including getting Olivia fired from Felicity's store for being rude to a customer.

Poeppel does a fantastic job of fleshing out these characters- they are so fully developed I could see moments of my own slapdash family referenced. I really enjoyed this and I think Evelyn was my very favorite and watching her respond to Frances & William was *chefs kiss*, I feel as though I must pick up more by this author!

I enjoyed this one!

It gave me Iona Iverson vibes…mainly the “found family” trope that I love so much! The Sweet Spot had great plot development and lots of side stories that all came together at the end pretty flawlessly. I do think the momentum started to go down hill towards the end and I was ready for the story to wrap, but I think this one will be enjoyable to the majority of readers.

I was happy to see a new book by Amy Poeppel as I remembered how much I enjoyed Musical Chairs. This one did not disappoint! This book has Lauren and her madcap, zany family living in Greenwich Village in a brownstone over a bar called The Sweet Spot. Just a short time after moving in, Lauren finds she has made an enemy of a woman whose husband left her, Melinda, by making an innocent comment to her friend, Felicity. Melinda's husband dumped her for Felicity. Melinda is out for vengeance against Lauren. Olivia, innocent in all of this, gets caught in the cross-fire. This book was fun!

I liked the mix of characters and the history of the old brownstone. The bartender for The Sweet Spot was a treat - I enjoyed reading about him. Melinda was crazed with her desire for vengeance. There were surprises in the relationships. Oh, and Lauren's mother was an interesting character who was not what I expected from Lauren's initial description of her.

There were several crises in the book that had to be handled and worked through. The book kept my attention throughout and i didn't want to put it down.

I ate every meal and snack right here in this bed today. I just let myself relax and I positively devoured this precious book.

I adored every single character and the growth they showed in the pages of THE SWEET SPOT by @amypoeppel - I just couldn’t get enough!

I always know I have a 5 star read on my hands if I dread leaving the characters behind when I finish the last page- and that was definitely the case with this one. I miss this quirky, chaotic family already.

This novel is witty and endearing and lovable all around. And can I just say that it’s SO NICE reading about characters in my age range for once?

Sweet spot, indeed. 🥰

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5, Fiction)
An utter delight .

This may not be a love story in the conventional sense (between two romantic partners, although there’s a little bit of that sprinkled in here), but it is a love story between family, friends, neighbors, & strangers. I found this refreshing and perfect, especially if you feel you’ve been flooded with cheesy love stories during this season of love (I say this as the #1 fan of cheesy love stories 🧀 💗 ).

Our story is about one very historic brownstone and the cast of characters that inhabit it—whether it be for a week, a month, a year, or an afternoon. It’s the story of 3 unlikely friends and one baby. It’s a story of love and rage, punishment and forgiveness, young and…less young. Lauren is a fabulous artist, tasked with a huge commission and trying to balance her kids, husband, and mother (who’s decided to drop in for a week? Month? Who knows!). Melinda is a woman scorned after her husband of 30 years left her for a younger woman. The only way she can seem to deal with her new reality is to terrorize anyone who had anything to do with the dissolution of her marriage. Olivia is a young woman who is fired—in a very public way—and trying to figure out what her future looks like. These three women band together to take care of a baby that’s fallen into their laps. I know, it’s insane.

This book is CHAOTIC in a way that makes you desperately want to join in on the chaos.

The writing is lovely and fresh, I smiled throughout the story, and the cast of characters made me laugh out loud.

This book left me wanting to judge less and give more love, acceptance, and forgiveness!!!

Best paired with an old fashioned in a basement bar. If you can’t find a basement bar, just the old fashioned will suffice 🥃!

Wow, this book is fabulous!

We start out meeting each character by chapter, then we start to discover they’re all connected.

I don’t know where to start, so I’m going to go think about it so I can write a worthy review. 😊

This book had me laughing out loud so much that my dog got startled and left the room! Amy Poeppel has outdone herself in this incredibly smart and quirky story of chaotic families, unconditional love, unsatisfying revenge, and reinvention. The characters are so perfectly drawn and so utterly original that it's impossible to pick a favorite. This book will hit the sweet spot for readers-brilliant writing, clever twists, sassy dialogue, and so much heart that you'll never want to put it down.

The Sweet Spot by Amy Poeppel is a captivating novel set in the heart of Greenwich Village. It follows the story of three unlikely women - Lauren, Melinda and Ginnie - who form an unlikely bond when a baby lands on their collective doorstep. The novel is full of humor, heartache and unexpected surprises as these three women struggle to figure out their lives and how to best raise this baby as their own.

At the center of The Sweet Spot is Lauren, who has been granted the use of a spectacular brownstone with her family. With its bohemian charm and grungy wallpaper, it's hard not to love this house - particularly when they discover a bar in the basement called The Sweet Spot. But soon after moving in, Lauren inadvertently sparks a divorce between two people she's never even met. This sets off a chain of events that will bring all three women together on an unforgettable journey of self-discovery that ultimately leads them to accept each other and embrace life as it comes.

The writing style employed by Amy Poeppel throughout The Sweet Spot is nothing short of brilliant. She skillfully weaves together elements of comedy and drama while exploring themes like motherhood, relationships, loyalty and friendship. Through clever dialogue, vivid descriptions and subtle characterization, readers will find themselves quickly becoming invested in the characters' lives as they experience the highs and lows alongside them.

The Sweet Spot is an incredibly touching novel about life's surprises and how our paths can sometimes lead us down unexpected roads. It's a delightful example of what happens when trust is built through shared experiences - no matter how strange or unpredictable those experiences may be. If you're looking for an uplifting read that will leave you with a smile on your face then look no further than Amy Poeppel's The Sweet Spot!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 If I had to pick one word to describe The Sweet Spot, I’d choose charming. This is exactly the type of light, warm-hearted book I crave after too many dark thrillers or emotionally draining reads.

At its heart, The Sweet Spot is a story about family - both the families we are born into and the ones we find along the way. It’s also about forgiveness, love, friendship, motherhood and misunderstanding (but hilarious misunderstandings, not the eye-roll inducing misunderstandings of romance novels!).

I adored this book. Did the story need to be 390 pages? Maybe not, but I consider this an “enjoy the ride” read. It was a nice escape at the end of the day and every other page had me smiling and laughing out loud, so I was a happy camper.

Things I especially loved:
🍎Precocious children and quirky hilarious fathers, especially Leo!
🍎Writing that makes you feel like you’re smack dab in the middle of New York in the fall.
🍎Chapter titles written in a font that looks exactly like my best friend’s handwriting.
🍎Harrell’s Halloween “essay” (page 288).
🍎Women over the age of 40 still having fun, dating, living life, and finding themselves.

If you were following us in 2018, you might remember just how much I loved Limelight (reviewed here). Well, Amy Poeppel's recent release, The Sweet Spot, is on par with Limelight's greatness. I had such a fun time reading it and felt like I was breezing through the story as it was so entertaining. I enjoyed all the different perspectives throughout, especially those of the three main characters: Lauren, Olivia, and Melinda.

Lauren was the most relatable for me, as we're probably close in age, have two sons and a daughter, and our houses are always in some stage of chaos. (Although I don't have any pets.) I felt like Amy was listening in on conversations I've had with my mother, as the dialogue was that spot-on between Lauren and Evelyn. Melinda grated on me at first, even though I felt bad for her. Taking her situation out on Lauren bothered me though. I did find her revenge tactics amusing and somewhat creative and I wish I could sic her on a certain friend's ex-husband. I liked Olivia a lot and felt like she was easy to connect with, even with the twenty years age difference between us. I hated what happened to her as part of Melinda's revenge plot and I love how she found her place with Lauren's family.

I didn't know that I'd want to read Russell's perspective, but it did clear some things up in the story and I enjoyed seeing how things were going for him given what he did to Melinda. I also didn't think I would like Evelyn all that much but she changed throughout the story and became so wonderful. I love how New York City is the backdrop, and how Amy really captures the feel of the city without having to overly describe it.

My only concern is that I felt the baby situation was introduced so late into the story. It was around the halfway point. I wish there had been more time to work with that situation and really explore it more. I also would have liked another chapter with Felicity's perspective aside from the prologue and epilogue. Having said that, none of these concerns took away from my overall enjoyment.

I've been recommending The Sweet Spot even while just in the early chapters, it's that well-written and engaging. Do yourself a favor and pick up this feel-good read!

I'm ashamed to say this is my first book by Amy Poeppel (even more ashamed to admit I've had Musical Chairs sitting unread on my tablet for two years now but promise to fix that ASAP)! What an absolute delight this was to read!

Amy's writing is outstanding. I felt like I knew my way around Greenwich by the end of this book, and I longed to be within the walls of that old brownstone or in a cozy corner of the Sweet Spot drinking a Manhattan and surrounded by this eccentric cast of characters that I had come to love.

Her characters are so well rounded and multi layered. At times, even the characters you root for the strongest leave you shaking your head and upset, which to me just made me love them even more. They just feel like REAL people.

The plot itself was brilliant as was the set up for the storytelling where you get a sense of the main characters and their lives before they all start to come together in various ways. I loved how all of these characters from seemingly different areas (and eras) of life came to find themselves within the same circle and bond with each other (even if the beginning of their meetings with each other maybe weren't so great...😝). It was heartwarming. It was charming. I laughed with them and cried with them. I couldn't put this book down because I just wanted to make sure sure that they all ended up in a good place by the end. Absolutely wonderful read, and I can't wait to read more by Amy!

Amy Poeppel creates vibrant, flawed, and hilarious characters who quickly become friends. Written with depth and her signature wit, The Sweet Spot hits the actual sweet spot. Readers will devour this compelling take on blended families and complicated relationships. I laughed out loud and already miss the characters. I especially love Poeppel's knack for creating chaos and calm through life's biggest obstacles. Immersive and unputdownable, this is Amy Poeppel at her best.

Oh boy, I feel like I’m in the minority with this book but I couldn’t get into it at all! It was too slow for me and I only liked some of the characters. I liked the idea behind the story- how the characters all fit together in an unexpected way but I wish I would've listened to my inner self telling me to stop reading it at the halfway point.

It's not you, it's me. And this time I know it's definitely me because a lot of folks truly enjoyed this book from start to finish. I just wish I was one of them. Don't get me wrong - this book is well written, the opening chapter is so fun and captivating, and the ensemble cast have such big personalities that I wish I could see this on the big screen too.

It's just that 40% into this book and I started to get lost on what was happening. The cast of characters in this book all have huge personalities which is awesome and something I typically love in books. In this book I started getting confused because it started to feel like there was too many characters and too many things were happening at once. What started off funny and quirky slowly became confusing and a big question mark. I love the found family vibes of it all, but I was starting to get annoyed at the feeling that there was no clear direction the story was headed towards. It started to feel all over the place and that just didn't work for me in the long run.

I want to give this another shot when I feel less overwhelmed at the sheer chaos of everything going on in the second half of the book.

However, I do think this is a great story about friendships and finding those people that just fit right with you. Reading stories that delve into platonic love more than romantic love are important and must be treasured more.

A huge thank you to Atria Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this eARC!

The Sweet Spot is an absolute delight! Author Amy Poeppel draws us into a big, complicated, contemporary muddle of family, friends, exes, lovers, frenemies, enemies and babies. And makes it all a delightful mess - with sharp writing, distinct characters, sly observations about modern life and a great brownstone in Greenwich Village. It's a book with a plot that sneaks up on you, so give it time to get going. Then you'll be rewarded with a satisfying ending and a smile on your face. The Sweet Spot, indeed.

30 Books in 30 Days, Vol. 3
Book 1/30

I was genuinely surprised by how much I liked this. I very rarely really connect to contemporary fiction anymore that doesn't have some sort of genre twist, or queer angle. But this was just so charming!

I would advise not reading the blurb, because it spoils something that doesn't happen until over 60% of the way through the book.

The Sweet Spot follows several women in Manhattan whose lives are either falling apart or finally coming together. We've got Lauren, whose family has the lucky opportunity to move into a classic brownstone in Greenwich Village for free, a brownstone that sits atop a neighborhood bar called The Sweet Spot. Lauren has just been commissioned to make custom pottery pieces for an upscale NYC boutique run by a famous decorator named Felicity who has her own TV show as well. She is overwhelmed and needs help, so invites her mother Evelyn to NY to stay with them, even though the two are not close. And then there's Melinda and Olivia: Melinda, the angry ex-wife of the man that Felicity had an affair with, and who is now having his baby; and Olivia, the woman Melinda gets fired when she has a full on (planned) revenge meltdown in Felicity's boutique.

So that sets the stage for what is a pretty normal but sweet and charming story about family and friendship.

I thought for sure I would be giving this one 3.5 stars and selling it on Pango, but I would read this again. It really turned a corner for me when Melinda and her extremely angry POV came into play. She shot adrenaline into the story, and in many ways acts as its center for the rest of the book. I found myself wanting to move into the brownstone and just be among all that family chaos.

I'll definitely be reading more from this author in the future.

Taking place in the heart of Greenwich Village, the story follows Lauren, Melinda and Olivia - very different women of all ages as they are brought together by a baby - that does not belong to any of them. The Sweet Spot is a novel about how our paths can sometimes lead us down unexpected roads and the people you meet along the way!

This is a fun found family novel with a quirky cast of characters. There are also a fair number of plot lines, but it's easy to keep everything/everyone straight as they all come together. I chuckled out loud multiple times and I loved how Poeppel did a great job of creating the setting. I feel like I've been to the brownstone on Waverly Place in Greenwich Village and The Sweet Spot bar! The writing was so engaging and the story is heart warming, funny, and endearing.

Would I recommend?
If you are looking for a sweet family drama this would be a great one to pick up!
