Bound to an Overlord #1

The Marriage Bargain

Rate this book
Alien Overlords ruling Earth need human females to rebuild a decimated population. Delle refuses to end up on a breeder's list. Overlord Caide wants to avoid returning to his home planet and his father's harsh rule. Can a marriage of convenience protect them both?

Earth was ripped apart during the Final War, but the alien Overlords have come down to save us.

Or have they?

Delle: Life is simple for my older sister, even under the Overlords' rule. She’s happily married and a mother of four. According to our alien rulers, I should be emulating her. But I want more than to be a breeder, having some blasted alien’s babies. Nope. Not the life for me. Then a cruel alien Flight Commander tries to claim me as his own. My only way out is a marriage of convenience… with an Overlord from the planet Asterion. Caide, my brother-in-law’s boss. It’s the last thing I want, but Overlord Caide promises he won’t force anything on me. Sex. Babies. Love.

Caide: The illegitimate son of an Asterion noble, I took a spot on one of the first starships coming to Earth where I built a new life for myself. Now my half-brother, my father’s heir, has died, and my father wants me to return home. In order to circumvent my father, I must marry a human female so the Asterion nobility will consider me tainted. I can’t deny that Delle, my employee’s sister-in-law, with her generous curves and hot temper, has caught my eye. She’s also caught the eye of a harsh military ruler. She needs a way to escape him, and I need a way to escape going home. So I offer her a bargain. A marriage bargain.

One of the stipulations she sets is that we can’t fall in love. But that may be the part of the bargain I can’t keep. As it turns out, Delle is my mate. Whether she believes it—likes it—or not.

This is a sweet (not spicy) romance between a human and an alien. The future for humans, and especially women created in this book is scarily realistic. While this book isn't "spicy" there is chemistry between both the main characters that is romantic and not focused fully on the physical aspects of an intimate relationship. This is a great introduction to a world that has huge potential for future storylines with many other characters mentioned in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys alien romances, with a sweet yet protective male main character and a strong willed female main character.

A solid start to a new series. The Marriage Bargain follows Delle, a human, and Caide, an Overlord. A slow burn read that keeps you engaged in this dystopian universe.
The story was sweet and the characters likable. Delle is a strong woman in an oppressed society. Caide is an honest, hard working, honorable Asterion trying to forge his own path on a new planet.
There was lots of chemistry between the two, very slow burn. No majorly graphic scenes.
Overall the book was a great way to enjoy a weekend, the author left lots of openings to continue the series with other characters and maybe other races. I’m interested in reading more from the series!

The main female character was so bitter and hateful it was unbearable. Every interaction, every thought. At first I was going to hold on until she mellowed out, but 7 chapters in and she was still going strong. I had to clock out.

It’s fine. The female main character is constantly angry and seems very two dimensional. It’s not terrible.

I’m not a big fan of dystopian or post apocalyptic books and this had oversimplification of a crap tastic world. I don’t wanna live there.

This is a really entertaining alien romance. The set up for this version of the future is scarily plausible. The two MCs are great and have some fantastic chemistry. I loved that they were sizzling without it being graphic. This author hit on a perfect balance. This is a great first from this author.

I received a free ARC in exchange for my honest review.

To start off I don’t think I am this books primary audience since I don’t typically read human/alien romances. With that being said I think there is an audience who will enjoy this book.

The novel revolves around Delle (human woman) and Caide (alien overlord) who meets Delle through one of his subordinates (Delle’s brother in law).

Due to circumstances they are placed in a forced proximity situation and an attraction takes root. For Delle it seems to be a begrudging attraction due to her feelings about the Overlords.

Circumstances ensue through a breeders list that Delle is placed on and in order to save her from this fate Caide offers to marry her. Keeping her out of the clutches of a particularly creepy alien who doesn’t view Delle as much more than an incubator for his offspring.

There are some twist and turns which lead them to marry and develop their relationship. The ending culminating in the resolution of conflicts laid out in the beginning of the book.

My biggest reason for giving this book 3 stars was my difficulty with staying emotionally connected to the characters. Also, the writing style wasn’t what I typically gravitate toward. But if you like alien romances then I think this may be the book for you.

My opinion

This book was a disappointment. Very wordy, The relationship stop and go was annoying and no way as sexy as hoped.

An excellent Sci-Fi romance for all those in search of sizzling chemistry with a hell lot of feeling, without on page graphic sex scenes.

This one's a keeper!

The Marriage Bargain is not your average Sci-Fi romance. It does give us a future torn apart by war Earth and aliens colonizing it, as well as a premise that's terrifyingly plausible and a slow burn romance, but here is where the typical stops and the story heads off straight into an atypical that's both bold, and refreshing.

The characters are not the usual alpha alien and beautiful human mate.

This author gives us a 24 year old woman full of resentment towards an unfair hand fate had dealt her and a life that she can't seem to escape. Delle is neither a perfect beauty, nor one of those gentle little damsels in distress. Used to take care of herself and her sister's kids, and work hard for every single thing she needs, Delle is the typical take no shit strong woman with an attitude, proud of the fact she can stand on her own two feet. The kind who doesn't believe in fairytales and would rather work her butt off to achieve something than have it handed to her on a silver platter at a price. The kind who recognises the injustice in the world and is not afraid to call anyone out on their bullshit. The kind of woman whose trust is hard to gain and whose loyalty to the people she loves knows no bounds. The kind of woman most of us above 25 will not only understand but also want in our corner, and most probably also be able to identify with.

And then there is Cade. A cinnamon roll of the best kind. Sweet and caring, gentle and understanding... Someone please let me know if more of them are available and point me in the direction of the cue. I'll rush and grab a number cause seriously people - that alien is... yummy!!

The chemistry between them is off the roof and taking into account the fact that steamy scenes here are fade to black, one has got to admire this author's ability to make her readers literally feel it.

The worldbuilding is great for the genre, leaving a lot of open possibilities for the sequel and the narrative is as smooth as it gets, providing sufficient details without becoming overly descriptive.
The plot is, as usual for the genre, more or less linear with a few subtle twists, while managing to keep readers on their toes.
And the characters are fabulous. From main to side cast, they are all nicely fleshed out and three dimensional, practically leaping from the page.

All in all, because I already held you too long, The Marriage Bargain is a sweet alien romance with sizzling chemistry and a hell lot of feeling. The perfect mix of sweet and exciting, tension and fun, with a small side of cheesy. Just as any great romance must be.

I absolutely loved it and highly recommend it to any Sci-Fi Romance fan out there.
You're gonna love it!

I received an ARC copy for an honest review.

The premise of this book is that Asterions from the Interstellar Coalition have come to Earth to aid Earth from total destruction. Most human men have died due to all the wars, and the Asterion women have all contracted a virus that has rendered them unable to bear children. Enter the Marriage Bargain, where a list is made of all human women that can get pregnant, for the members of the Instellar Coalition to choose from and procreate.
In this story, book 1, we meet Delle, a human woman, and Caide, an Asterion male who decide to make a pact to marry so Delle does not make it to the list, and so Caide does not have to return back to his home planet to help his Father.
It was very detailed, and we meet Delles sister, brother in law, and nieces. We also learn about Caides family of origin, and how being called back to his home planet would not be good for him.

All in all, I would recommend this book, and will definitely read the next one.

Loved this book about MFC Delle and MMC Caide. Delle is a human on earth, Caide is an alien overlord from planet Asterion who came to Earth after the Final War. Now, human women are being placed on a breeders list to procreate with the Asterions in order to keep up the population. However Delle has dreams and aspirations, she doesn't want to be married off to a random Asterion just to become a breeder for the aliens. Caide doesn't want to be forced back to his home planet by his estranged father. Thus, she and Caide make a marriage bargain that would hopefully benefit them both.

This book was well written. The author did a wonderful job giving each character a distinct voice. I had never read any sci-fi, alien romance sort of books but I will definitely be keeping up with the series!

I am providing my honest review after the author graciously provided me with a free copy of this book. 🖤💜

Well then....

It was a really good story. I was expecting spice. It has moments of passion, however it fades to black. Or more to the point you get a retelling of the moment without the details, just the emotions felt in the moment. If I had known what I was getting. I wouldn't have been so disappointed.

Bored in Space🚀, supposed sci-fi👽

This was a disappointing ,boring, actionless book which could have had a human male substituted for the alien male👽 and it would have changed nothing. 👨The novel consists of endless inane conversations. The characters had no chemistry.

Not worth reading. I only read it because it was an ARC copy.

ARC provided by Hidden Gems
I also got this ebook from Amazon with KU.

The Marriage Bargain de Moriah Blackwood serie Bound to an Overlord libro 1

Argumento:

Delle

This is 3.5 stars however I rounded down for GR as I seriously struggled with the FMC.

This is a new alien romance series. Very sweet, not much spice, almost felt like a fade to black. I'm fine with that. Despite being a dirty girl, I can appreciate a good love story..

This story is takes place on earth. Humans have destroyed their own planet with wars and depleting natural resources. The Overlords arrived and stepped in to help rebuild. However, in doing so they have basically taken over and are rebuilding earth in their image. There are few earth men due to the final war taking so many lives. However, due to a sickness that plagued their own planet their own female population is limited. I'm sure you know where this is going.

It seems the aliens have been present for about 20 plus years, as our female MC is in her early 20s and has only ever known a life with them. She harbors a lot of anger and resentment towards them. However, she is also very ignorant of the benefits and dangers of their presence.

I did not like our FMC Delle for a majority of this book, she was very hostile, disrespectful, and ignorant right from the jump. She would often contradict herself. She would attack then think AFTER the fact of the possible consequences. Had Caide been someone else she easily could have jeopardized her brother in-laws' job and his ability to care for his growing family. It wasn't cute.

The overall plot is really good. The Overlords have decided to make an official breeders list allowing their men to claim the unmarried adult human women. Not only is Delle on this list, but she's also highly sought after due to her sister being Fertile Mertl. I felt like this could hit a lot of nerves due to today's climate.

Our MMC Caide who is an absolute gentle giant and sweetie proposes the Marriage Bargain to Delle. The marriage would not only prevent her from being sold off like cattle but allow him to stay on earth. Delle is a total douche, doesn't believe the dangers and when she does accept that the breeder's list is an issue, she's ignorant to believe that it will just blow over.

Dude!!!! This is straight human trafficking; they want to use these women to populate the society. What is NOT to get?!?! I wanted to pop her upside the head and say "You in danger girl" smh..

Long story short, Delle finally comes around, she finally treats our man with the respect, love, and kindness he deserves. It was all very sweet.

However, again the overall plot, the human breeding program, the young girls who are destined to one day be a part of it, the other unattached women whose names are on this list who don't have anyone to step in and save them. There is so much more to be told.

I really liked the writing style, the duel povs, and the adversity presented. This series has a lot of potential. My dislike for Delle is subjective. I'm sure other people might be more empathetic to her prejudice. I definitely recommend this book and plan on reading the series as it progresses.

Good Beginning But Ending is Rushed with Plot Holes

It started off with a great premise. I loved the world building initially but it never expanded. It evolved into a trope where an average girl in every way is desired by all the men. She has big dreams to be something different from her sister. Her sister's husband seemed very derpy. I still don't understand why the female mc had to go alone to get paperwork into a predatory place with no women in the first place. Like the husband is unaware it's not safe there? Well Here's my issues with *spoilers*:

1. Why was Caide so antagonistic to his father when he showed up at the end. In the beginning he mentioned that he still respected his father and they were on cool terms. Enough for him to ask his father for favors which he did to secure the marriage. Suddenly his father shows up and he unleashes all his trauma and gets aggressive before the dad could be a cartoon villain. He didn't have to be nice but there was a respect there that vanished in the last chapters.

2. How did the father find out she wanted to go to architecture school? How???? I guess the father can read minds now?

3. That ending sucked. It didn't make any sense. Why is this commander so down bad? If the purpose is to have kids, the only thing she has going is her sister is fertile (which doesn't mean she will be. These are smart aliejs who should know that). she is (fake) pregnant, why would he still want her? Who cares who's the most fertile. He's a commander and was able to have priority over any woman. Anyway...caide happened to have a witness to the meeting. Mind you the transportation they use is very fast so he managed to explain everything to this guy in order to set the father up in one text? The father was not a great guy in the beginning but he became cartoonishly evil by the end. Also you just killed the brother off just because? Can you explain the accident in any way? At first the step mom died and the brother was hanging on for dear life. Why was he traveling with his mother? There was an explosion but what exploded? You get nothing then 20 chapters later..."he died".

4. The "Romance" was rushed and intimacy was non existent. You wasted my time. It was insta love with very little substance. The closest they got to getting to know each other was they didn't care who made the bed. Favorite colors? What they like to eat? Other than the wedding..any customs they aren't familiar with? I was expecting some of this when they were at the sister's house but this never came up.

Thank you to the author for giving me a free copy in exchange for my honest review.

Alien Overlords (aka men??!?) are ruling the Earth, claiming to help rebuild the planet and save humanity, but shady things are happening, like the fact that "fertile" women are part of a breeder's list and are "auctioned off" to these sketchy alien overlords. Luckily, not all overlords (not all men?) are sketchy and perverse.

Don't be fooled by my rating (I'm leaning towards a 3.5 for this). I greatly enjoyed reading this, but I feel like it could have been churned out better.

I really love the world-building of this book. Although I think more could have been given to building the dystopian future of the Earth, it does good in making the reader imagine the setting. I know that if this book was longer, and more time was given to develop everything -- from the setting to the characters to the history and the languages-- this would have been very astonishing (and probably would get 5 stars from me... I'm a little selfish with the 5 stars, I'm sorry). I was also a little bothered with the consistency of Caide's language, but I'll let it pass because... I love Caide.

The concept/premise of this book is really great, but it was way too fast-paced for me. Don't get me wrong. I love fast-paced stories, but this was too much. I guess that's a reason why I couldn't give this four stars. Things just felt rushed. I would have really loved for this to be more detailed. That's how much I really love the story. I wanted it to be more immersive.

Overall, this was a really fast, light, and cute read. There's still a lot to be improved, but it sure is entertaining! I would recommend it to romance/paranormal romance readers. A lot to be enjoyed here, especially if you don't want to be too stressed out with what you're reading lol. This book made me realize that I actually enjoy this genre, so thank you!

I received this book as an ARC in return for an honest review.

Before I get into the book, I just want to say how much I loved this cover art. Caide is giving me young, super fit Jeff Goldblum vibes and I am totally here for it. lol! :)

Imagine you are in a post-apocalyptic Minnesota. Aliens from 12 different worlds are rebuilding your planet after the last war, and there are far more women than men. Humans are subservient to the new aliens and must call them their overlords. Caide is working on building the Citadel, a fortress city for the aliens, and his coworker Zyn, who is human, invites him over to dinner not thinking he will take him up on it. To Zyn's surprise, he does and he meets Delle, Zyn's sister in law. Delle and Caide have an immediate attraction despite the fact that she despises the aliens. After their chance encounter Caide finds out about a list of desirable female humans. Aliens are signing up to be paired off with a human for breeding. And guess who's at the top of the list?...

I won't go too much into the plot as to not spoil the story too much. I really enjoyed this. I typically read things on the more spicy side, but their story was so unique and relatable to today's political climate that I could not put it down. Delle is sassy and not your typical skinny fmc. She's got curves and is considered not a conventional beauty. Caide is a respectful cinnamon role mmc. He says the sweetest things to her and they have a few really sweet moments together. The love scene at the end is mostly fade-to-black with descriptions of the emotion behind everything. No explicit sexytimes here folks, but a great read all the same!

Tropes:
Enemies to lovers, different worlds, opposites attract, marriage of convenience, fated mates, marriage before romance, slow burn, unequal social status

The aliens have finally arrived and they are here to make the Earth a better place. Only what they do is set human females back to the 50's where they are just breeders to repopulate the world with alien-human hybrids.

Delle lives with her sister and husband, they have 3 kids and her sister is pregnant with the 4th. Her sister is struggling with this pregnancy, but her brother-in-law decides it would be great to have his Overlord alien boss come over. Delle is less than excited when her sister has to go to the hospital, leaving the Overlord and her alone. Yet, it's not all bad. He is kind, he is nice, and he is everything she needs. Wait, what?

A Breeders list of humans is going around and Delle is on that list. Caide can't let this happen and sadly he finds himself in a situation that he is not pleased about. What if Caide offers Delle a solution to both of their problems? Would she accept? Caide realizes after the bargain, that she is his mate and he loves her. He'll never give her up. For nothing. She is his.

While I liked the story, I craved more. I felt like the story would take 2 steps forward and three steps back. At one point I didn't feel like the story was progressing and was ready to just bag it. then the climax hit @ 80% into the story. No steam in this book - which is fine. There was little to NO chemistry between Caide and Delle. It was a lot of talking and no action.

I really enjoyed this book. It's my first from this author. Great world building. The storyline was interesting and the way the world was set was very believable. I really liked Caide. Though an Overlord, he wasn't arrogant or self-centered. He was lonely of his quiet life, and when his employee (jokingly?) invites him over to his chaotic house with his pregnant wife and kids, Caide accepts. Delle is frustrated with the way humans are treated by Overlords. She is worried about her pregnant sister, who's been sick all day while she cares for the children, and her brother-in-law doesn't even remember to bring the medication his wife needs. She isn't happy that he brought an Overlord to their home, and has more of a problem with them than they do. I found her outspoken, and at times rash. I understand the indignation at the inequality between humans and the aliens, but I expected her to have better control- especially if an Overlord's wrath could have serious consequences for their family (and she doesn't know Caide is more easy-going than the other Overlords). I didn't really care for her character. I thought Caide very patient and kind.

I listened to this on audiobook narrated by Lily Kerry. I liked her voice- especially for Delle. I thought it suited the character. Her voice for Caide wasn't much different however.

I enjoyed it.

Overall: 4 stars
Performance: 4 stars
Story: 4 stars

The Marriage Bargain by Moriah Blackwood is book on in the Bound to an Overlord series, a series.

Book one begins the series after Earth has been colonized by several different by of "space aliens" who are supposedly trying to help the humans rebuild everything they have lost after a great global and cival war.

Only instead of letting the humans continue to govern themselves, the aliens say the humans can't be trusted to govern themselves and become the new dominant species on Earth. What the humans don't realize is they now tend to reproduce females more than males, and the aliens are in desperate need of females as their females seem to be either sick and dying, or dead.

So, to help make sure all the male aliens get a female, they come up with a list that has all of the females who they believe are more than capable of bearing several female children so more of the colonizers can get a female bearing mate as time goes on.

The Marriage Bargain is full of topics such as prejudice, chauvinism, family, determination, strength, and the ability protect (both oneself and one's loved ones).

Ms. Blackwood is quick at drawing the readers into the story, immediately grabbing their attention and completely holding it until the end of the book. The style of writing is easy going and highly entertaining, making the story very enjoyable and something the readers wilI want to go back to time and again.

Okay so where do I even start??

I began reading this book a while ago and only just decided to pick it up again, and I honestly have to say that I'm disappointed.

Delle was a very annoying person in general let alone as a FMC since she was constantly confrontational and gearing up for an argument at literally every turn. It got old really quickly, and never once came across as a "strong lead" characteristic.

I felt like Caine and Delle didn't even build up a solid connection with each other before spewing their love for each other, and that just made it all seem that much more impersonal. Like they met briefly couple time, made the marriage bargain -that's literally half the book right there- before they hang out for a few days off page while babysitting... then somewhere the "I love you's" come out.

I truly don't understand where the Fated mates concept comes from in this. It is said that if you actually love your husband/wife that means you're mates, and Caine even made a comment about how if his father spent more time with his wife to gain that love then he might've had a mate too. So that all clearly insinuate that it's not a Fated mate situation if the only requirement if to just love someone.

Also the author claims that the story is "more than a birthday cake but less than a ghost pepper" on a spicy scale... and I think the more appropriate description is "about as spicy as cracked black pepper" because why mention ghost pepper as the highest level that you're under, even though you're not even measuring a scoville??

My final issue is a bit of an aside about Caine's father. The guy was a solid jerk with no redeemable personality traits, and I am shocked that the second book is based on him.

This is a great post apocalyptic romance read. If you prefer no spice its all closed door other than some kissing. This is a fated mates trope. I loved how the main female is very strong and independent. She knows what she wants from her life even if it will be difficult. Her love interest is not a skilled warrior but he's incredibly smart and a hard worker. She absolutely wants nothing to do with him other than she has an attraction to him. His alien race has taken over earth after the human on earth have completely destroyed it with war. His race is compatible with mating of humans. She has no desire to be a mother or married to an alien overlord as they are called. Her aspiration is to be an architect. She's saving up and helping her sister with her kids. He works as and architect whom is the boss of her brother in law. He by chance gets to meet her and is immediately attracted to this feisty human. They both get into a situation neither one wants to be in so they end up stroking a bargain to help each other out. This was a very fun read and i very much enjoyed it!!!

In a few sentences I have to explain that I do not understand some previous reviews of this book! I adored Delle! I loved her snarky personality and I understood her disdainful attitude towards Caide and his kind. I mean, this is taking place in a dystopian world where humans quite literally are considered less than those who hold their futures in their hands. Would you be happy at first that her own way to exist is to marry herself off to the exact species she resents! Then to only find out they are forcing human females into breeding contracts. Of course her resentment is consistent.

That being said, I love how she softens. Caide grows on her and he is wildly accepting of her, even as she continues to harbors disillusionment. She’s willing to try because she begins to see he will do what he must to make her life easier.

I thought the author did an amazing job with Delle’s skepticism but managed her desires for Caide that continued to tug on her heart! I’m looking forward to book 2

Bring on the Gentleman Overlords👽💖

In a world where Earth is ruled by alien overlords a single woman with a sister that has 4 children is a hot commodity. She's most likely extremely fertile. The only problem is Delle wants nothing to do with men and especially nothing to do with alien overlords who think of humans as second class citizens. But when a new breeding program threatens what little independence Delle has in this new world she goes to desperate lengths to retain what little is left.

Alien overlord, Caide is not like the others, he understands what it's like to start over, to escape the pressures of an unloving father with impossible demands. So when Delle approaches him with a marriage bargain to escape the grips of a military ruler, who only sees her as a breeder and not a person, he jumps at the opportunity. He's already half in love with her.

If you're a fan of alien romance with a go-getter FMC and a true gentleman alien MMC then you'llo love The Marriage Bargain

There's plenty of romance but the spice takes place behind closed doors.

Caide, an alien Overlord, was proud of having gained independence and a life for himself on Earth. Delle, the human female, was struggling to get ahead and help her family, but her family circumstances seemed to put her in check. And suddenly, the game's chips had changed. Both Caide and Delle found themselves in a serious predicament that could affect their futures. It was interesting how the Overlord found himself exposed to family environment and emotions that he has not experienced before. Della's character was clever, determined, with a strong sense of family, ready for action and with strong emotions. I liked how little by little the protagonists get to know each other, giving each other the opportunity to develop emotions that go beyond physical attraction. A bit of action, suspense, and violence, with some calculating villains, a big family, romance, and passion. I voluntarily reviewed this copy that I received for free from Hidden Gems.

She doesn't like the oppression from the Overlords, but she's drawn to one anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed this alien romance! He's on Earth to escape his father's shadow and disapproval. She wants to follow her dreams but has little hope to do so when Earth is run by the Coalition and humans only have so many rights left- and women working outside the home in anything that takes a degree is very rare. She has blamed the aliens for all of this since they came when she was a child. So she can't believe the draw she feels towards her brother-in-law's alien boss. But when they both are faced with being forced into something they don't want, he offers her marriage to protect her and keep him on Earth. While there are troubles that follow them, this story is a quick and easy read. A good book to escape into.

CAIDE AND DELLE (ASTERION AND EARTHLING)

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Caide is an Overlord from Asterion. The Asterions came to Earth to save it but in the process subjugated the humans and made women the bottom of the caste system. Women no longer had a voice and weren’t allowed to work. Because of certain problems throughout the universe, procreating was at a low. The human women were forced to become breeders to better their stations. Caide and Delle make a bargain to save each other from a fate neither desired. I love the way Caide knew Delle was his mate and did everything in his power to make her realize that he believed in her. This story shows how far someone will go to get what they want, whether they care about or not. This story is a lesson in making things work out.

♥️💚💜 Very nice discovery!

That evening, Delle grumbled in her sister Tarralynn's kitchen, while taking care of her three little nieces (7 years old, 4 years old and 2 years old), the two youngest chaining nonsense on nonsense...

Delle was eagerly awaiting her brother-in-law Zyn's return from work. He had to bring back the medicine that was to relieve his wife Terralynn, pregnant with their fourth child.

When Zyn returned, he brought with him his leader, the alien Overlord Caine...

----------------

Excellent science fiction romance, read in one go, enjoyable and entertaining to read.

I loved the two main characters of Delle and Caine, as well as the background plot of the novel.

I found the author's writing addictive and expressive.

A very nice discovery that I sincerely recommend.
