Trish Doller's idyllic romance Off the Map proves sometimes a wrong turn can lead to the exact right destination.

On the road to love, you don't need a GPS...

Carla Black’s life motto is “here for a good time, not for a long time.” She’s been traveling the world on her own in her vintage Jeep Wrangler for nearly a decade, stopping only long enough to replenish her adventure fund. She doesn’t do love and she doesn’t ever go home.

Eamon Sullivan is a modern-day cartographer who creates digital maps. His work helps people find their way, but he’s the one who’s lost his sense of direction. He’s unhappy at work, recently dumped, and his one big dream is stalled out—literally.

Fate throws them together when Carla arrives in Dublin for her best friend’s wedding and Eamon is tasked with picking her up from the airport. But what should be a simple drive across Ireland quickly becomes complicated with chemistry-filled detours, unexpected feelings, and a chance at love - if only they choose it.

I think this beautiful cover earns its own brightest five stars!

Off Map is dreamy and inspirational novella encouraging you dream big, stop procrastinating and finding the life path that makes you happy, going for it to chase your happiness by taking more risks because having secured life doesn’t mean living the life fulfilled.

Carla Black, in mid thirties, living her life forward, never looking back. After her mother’s abandonment at young age, her father takes him to the journeys to visit national parks, exploring the sacred sightseeings, having special adventures.

Those adventures turn into main purpose of Carla’s life. She keeps traveling around the world, working as bartender to collect enough money for her expanses and as soon as she has enough saving, she rides to her Jeep Wrangler to start another journey.

But her hero, her only parent, her idol father starts suffering from early stages of dementia. His memories keep fading away and he made her promise to keep traveling. He is proud man and he doesn’t let his daughter see him suffer.

Carla makes video calls, talking with her dad’s girlfriend Stella every day, but the guilt feelings still gnawing her inside.

Now she flies to Ireland to meet with her best friend Anna’s future brother in law Eamon Sullivan ( Keenan’s elder brother) The plan is simple. They will drive to Tralee to attend wedding ceremony. But as soon as they meet, sparks start flying in the air. Their first detour occurs at Eamon’s apartment for passionate sex. And the next day they find themselves into dreamy journey including full of pinewoods, moonlight dancing, sheep
roadblocks, and sangria-drinking bulls!

This is absolutely insta love story with Instagramable amazing sightseeings, passionate moments.

Normally I don’t enjoy insta love stories so much and I wish this book could be a little longer than a novella. Things seem like a little rushed. But their chemistry and the saucy love making scenes were absolutely well written. They were so good together. But I loved both of the main characters. Especially Eamon is dreamy book boyfriend: sweet, patient, selfless, caring, charismatic.

I loved Carla and her father Biggie’s genuine relationship.

So I’m rounding up my 3.5 stars to 4 adventurist, wishing to travel around the world stars!

Overall: it’s easy to read and enjoy! Sweet-swoon-soft reading! I highly recommend to romance lovers like me!

I wanted to love this. I truly did. I enjoyed the first two books in this series immensely but this one just didn't work for me this time around.

Carla Black is heading to Ireland to attend her best friends wedding. She is being met in Dublin by the best man, Eamon, they choose a local pub to meet at, they'll spend the night at his place, and then he'll drive her across the country to Tralee where the wedding is being held.

At the pub the two instantly hit it off. I don't know if I'd call this insta-love but it is definitely insta-lust for sure. These two are already between the sheets after a couple of hours and a couple of drinks.

And that was my first problem.

There was absolutely no build up to this relationship. None. They meet and then their in bed together. One of the things I enjoyed about the previous two books was the slow burn build up even though in book two I complained that their relationship came together too easily well this one put my complaint to shame. There was no time at all to build any kind of chemistry between the two and I just wasn't feeling these two as a couple at all. These are grown adults but it felt more like two horny teenagers.

And that was my second problem.

This book is spicy with wide open door scenes. I know a lot of people do not have a problem with this but I am not that reader. I don't want all the dirty details. The previous two books were sweet and charming and the bedroom scenes were mostly left to the imagination. Not here. These two are constantly having sex and I just....no. Needless to say I cringed a lot.

And now for my third problem.

What happened to the vulnerability of the characters? In the two previous books the characters had all suffered trauma in some way or another but here? Eamon's a mamma's boy and Carla was raised by a single dad, who was the most amazing dad a person could ask for, so it was hard to muster much sympathy for them. Yes, Carla's dad is currently suffering from dementia. Yet, when he was diagnosed 10 years before she hopped in her Jeep and traveled the world and has yet to return to see him. Yes, he did tell her to do it so she wouldn't be witness to his deteriorating mind but I couldn't imagine doing that to my own father. It seemed so selfish to me that I actually started to dislike Carla quite a bit.

And onto my fourth problem.

I didn't really like Carla or Eamon. In the previous books the cast of characters were all so lovable. Here, we basically have just Carla and Eamon traveling together which doesn't leave much room for other characters. I was hoping once we finally got to the wedding and some of the previous characters came back into play my heart would alight. Alas, the wedding was off page and there was maybe a chapter dedicated to them all reuniting. So disappointing.

Toward the end this book did take an emotional turn and it was my favorite part of the book but it was not enough to save everything that came before it.

I don't believe the Beck sisters series needed to add an honorary member in the form of Carla Black. It would be my recommendation to stick with the first two books and to leave this one off the TBR shelf. 2 stars!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my complimentary copy.

Off the Map by Trish Doller is Book #3 in the "Beck Sisters" Contemporary Romance Series!

Carla Black travels the world in her Jeep, avoids serious relationships, and never returns home - all out of choice.

Eamon Sullivan is a digital cartographer who seems to have lost his way after getting dumped - not out of choice.

When these two strangers meet up in Dublin for a wedding, sparks fly, and their chemistry is 'off-the-map'...

Off the Map has the 'Insta-Bed-Buddies' trope which isn't my view of romance, resulting in a tough start. The door is wide open here, folks, and remains that way for the entire book. This isn't how the first two books were written, so yeah, I'm surprised.

The characters of Carla and Eamon did grow on me though. I enjoyed listening to their playful banter, and I understood their serious, complicated sides once their backstories were explained. Their individual family dynamics give noticeable texture to the story and reveal the uniqueness and differences between the Black and Sullivan family structures.

The topic of Alzheimer's is handled realistically and with sensitivity in this story. It brought back memories of my mother's long battle with this dreadful, debilitating disease and how heavily it impacts the family and main caregivers. I cried a bucket of tears at the end.

I was fortunate to be gifted a DRC and an ALC of this book allowing me the pleasure of reading while listening. The audiobook was narrated by Sarah Naughton whose voicing range is enjoyable and her Irish accent is quite authentic. She narrates all three books in this series.

Although Off the Map isn't my favorite of this series, I did enjoy pieces, and parts, the connection between Carla and Eamon, and I do recommend it to all who love Rom-Com's with the door wide open. Although each book is a standalone story, I recommend reading this series in order for the best experience.

3.5 stars!

This is the third book in the Beck Sisters series but worked very well as a stand-alone book for me. So happy for that as I did not know this book was part of a series. Again, I think publishers should let readers know this when offering books, but I digress...…

Carla Black is a world traveler. She doesn't believe in relationships and lives for the moment. When she needs money, she works as a bartender. She seems carefree but her father, Biggie has dementia, and she is dealing with this internally. When she heads to Dublin for her best friend’s wedding, she meets the groom's brother, Eamon Sullivan, a cartographer who creates digital maps.

They instantly hit it off and soon are off on an adventure with them some exploring on the way to wedding venture. It's a journey that both are on, learning more about each other along the way.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narration. This added to my enjoyment of the book. I found this to be a nicely paced book. It was escapism reading/listening to me. I enjoyed the story and appreciated how the author dealt with Biggie's cognitive impairment. I shed a few tears along the way.

Overall, this was an enjoyable book that had me both smiling and shedding tears.

Publication date ~ March 7, 2023
Page Count ~ 266 (24 chapters)
Audio length ~ 6 hours 37 minutes
Narrator ~ Sarah Naughton
POV ~ single 1st

Carla & Eamon
Carla is living life to the fullest. She's always on the go traveling all around the world. Her latest trip is to Ireland for her best friends wedding. She meets, Eamon, the best man and they immediately hit it off and head back to his place for some whatnot.

Dementia really makes me sad. Luckily it has not affected my family, so I don't really know much about it, but I felt the author did a good job bringing realism to it. The flashbacks of the father/daughter relationship were heartwarming. I like that he taught her all the ins and outs of vehicle maintenance and repair.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. There was a bit more steamage in this one then in the previous books ~ I'm not sure what's up with that, but I didn't hate it. It was cute, fun and the epitome of YOLO.

Series notes:
This is part of the series because Anna and Keane from Float Plan are getting married. Carla is the best friend/maid of honor and Eamon is the brother/best man. Fine as a standalone, unless you'd like to meet Anna and Keane first.

Narration notes:
Well done again. She's narrated the whole series.

Float Plan is easily one of my favorite rom coms, ever, and the follow-up Beck Sisters books have not disappointed me. At all. In fact, Off the Map is now my favorite. Sometimes it’s those personal connections that make for an over-the-top reading experience, and that is what I had here.

Off the Map is Carla’s story. She is the best friend of Anna from Float Plan, and she finds love with Eamon, Anna’s fiancé’s brother, when they meet in Dublin for Anna’s wedding. Maybe it was a quick attraction, but I’m sure Carla felt like she knew Eamon through Anna and Keane’s relationship, even before she met him in person. Also, it was Carla’s relationship with her dad, as well as his illness and how she handled it, that further connected me to her story. I may write more about that later. As someone who solely cared for my dad while he declined over several years, often isolating myself, I had all the feels when it came to Carla and her dad. There were so many little details I could relate to, which enriched the story and made everything even more authentic.

Carla’s dad sometimes called her by her mother’s name, and my dad did this, too, especially when we were on the phone. In that moment, it wasn’t as if he wasn’t lucid, but his memory would take over. One of his nurses asked me if I sounded like my mom, and I do. There were many other commonalities. While my dad was not primarily affected by dementia, he had some memory loss and other cognitive challenges from Parkinson’s Disease. Another thing I loved in their relationship was how her dad could do just about anything because mine could, too. Just yesterday, while listening to Dad’s favorite Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass on vinyl, I asked my mom if there was anything Dad couldn’t do. Last, I loved the travels the two took together and how close they were.

Trish Doller so easily writes the kind of rom coms I most want to read. They are smart, immediately immersive, with no fluff or filler, and have strong characters who are complex and innately human. Just as with the other books, upon finishing, I frantically checked to make sure a new book is on the way. I don’t know how I’ll wait until 2024! 😱

I received a gifted copy from the publisher, but I also preordered another copy.

This was so beautiful. As I was reading this, I had so many laughs, so many spicy moments and even a few tears near the end. I absolutely LOVED this book. Carla and Eamon are so easy to love. Them together are even more easy to love. I loved the character development for both of them throughout the story. So many funny, cute moments. Even a tear jerking sad moment. It was just so beautifully written I had to keep reading in one sitting to see the story unfold. This should be a movie!!! I don't easily give 5 stars for books but this one earned every single bit!

I won this book from a Goodreads giveaway. All of the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading this book.

2.5 rounded down - I truly loved the other Beck sisters books, but this one just fell really flat for me. None of the charm of “Float Plan” even if we did have some of it’s characters. The female lead was so very dislikable; I just wanted to slap some sense in her! Actually ended up skimming parts of it to get to the parts I wanted to read about (and I was pretty sad that Anna & Keane’s wedding was given such a small space here - WTH!!). Also way, way too spicy for my personal taste - 🌶️🌶️🌶️ So disappointing!

Off the Map by Trish Doller
Contemporary romance. Beck Sisters, book 3. Can be read as a stand-alone but part of the travel is to get to a wedding of one of the sisters. I had not read the previous books and had no trouble following the story.
Carla Black is on a perpetual adventure. If it sounds interesting, she’s all in. No deep commitments, but a life of exploring and living to the max. She meets Eamon Sullivan in Ireland and they have instant chemistry and go exploring, both in bed and around the country. Eamon is the responsible family member. Taking a side trip on the way to a wedding shouldn’t be thrilling but he’s learning from Carla that fun is allowed.
Carla is also running from emotions and she needs to unlearn her habits for a richer future.

It’s a fun romance with a second story of learning to love. Dementia is a big piece so if that’s a trigger for you, be warned.
“What happens in the pasture, stays in the pasture.”

🎧 I alternated between an ebook copy and an audiobook. The audiobook is narrated by Sarah Naughton. The performance is well done and includes a slight Irish accent for Eamon and his friends that you don’t necessarily hear in reading the book. Both the ebook and audiobook had me crying as she does video calls with her father and his dementia is a factor.
I think the ebook had a slightly lighter, carefree feel for me as an adventure of her falling in love. The audiobook felt a bit more serious from Eamon’s tone and perspective of life.
I listened to this audiobook at 1.5 which is my standard and is what I feel makes the best conversational speed.

However you read this book, it’s heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time and of course, as a romance you get a hea.

I received both copies from NetGalley. The audiobook courtesy of Macmillan audio.

3.75 Irish wedding stars
*now available

I went into this book not realizing it was #3 in a series, I liked it so much that I’m going back to read the previous two now! I was intrigued by this one as a romance with an Irish setting.

Carla Black has a lot on her plate with a cherished father suffering from Alzheimer’s. Her dad has sent her out to find adventure through travel, not sit at home watching him deteriorate. She works as a bartender just long enough to bank some money to travel.

Now she’s off to Ireland for her best friend’s wedding and Eamon is picking her up to drive to the wedding. The two have never met and they hit it off in spectacular fashion! Soon they are headed off on an adventure and may not make it to the wedding!

This was a quick enjoyable read with some substance. I liked Trish Doller’s writing style and character development.

My thanks to St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and honestly review this one.

"Feel all the feelings, Carla. Let them hurt, then let them heal."

°•*⁀➷

I loved Float Plan so much because it was a perfect absolute recollection of how grief reorders a life. I liked The Suite Plan because we got to watch a girl recognize what real love looks like. I love Off the Map because we got to watch Carla stop running away from the life she finds out she CAN choose.

Carla grew up knowing that life was meant to be experienced. With her Mom taking off and her father having no idea how to take care of a young girl, he decided to make their life one full of memories. They traveled to every park they could, camping and living off the land, there were no limits or expectations... just fun. Just love.

So what happens when those memories are lost? When her father is diagnosed with dementia, she has to find a way to keep all of those memories close enough for the two of them. Especially when he makes her promise to keep living, and keep experiencing, even when he can't be there next to her.

That brings her to Ireland for her best friends wedding. My Anna, from Float Plan. And Ireland brings her Eamon. There's a beautiful moment when she makes her way home for the first time in years where she tells her father, "Ireland was beautiful. And while I was there, I fell in love." For someone who's been traveling, and running away her entire life, I feel like my heart stopped with hers in that realization.

When someone you've known only a few days helps you to understand the importance of going home, there's something there, something so much more than Carla or Eamon seemed to be ready for.

I've spent so much of my life reading that sometimes I can't believe that books can still sneak up on me like this one did. This felt like a big hug. I mean, where else can you find a drunk bull and the perfect guy in the same place?

So, make sure you: Feel all the feelings. Let them hurt. Then let them heal. Carla needed to hear that and maybe you do, too. And if you can't do it on your own, do it with Carla. Grab this book in March like I will be, and fall in love with the Beck sisters and all their friends!

This is a fast, fun read.

Carla Black works as a bartender from November through April and then travels wherever her heart desires. She doesn’t do relationships. She’s in Ireland for her best friend’s wedding, and the brother of the groom meets her to take her from Dublin to Tralee. Carla and Eamon have immediate attraction to each other, but it’s not just the physical lust she’s used to.

Eamon has always been the dutiful son, getting a good job as a cartographer to help other people find where they’re going without ever hitting the road himself. With Carla’s love for exploring, they decide to take a few detours, taking a few days instead of a few hours to get where they’re going.
This is mostly cute and at one point sad. I enjoyed it enough that I’m going to read the first two books in the series. This one read fine as a standalone.

NetGalley provided an advance reader copy of this novel, which RELEASES MARCH 7, 2023.

The audiobook and read was okay. A smooth ride from the start. They met and kiss and fell for each other. Super fast relationship. They got to know each other after they hit the sheets. Lucky Carla for meeting a good guy right off the bat! Some road trips. Somebody getting married. They showed up late which wasn't so nice. One story I liked was Ames. He didn't do what he wanted because he worried to disappoint his mom. Finally he revealed to his mom what his heart desires. So it's good to just be open and communicate more.

Thank you St. Martin's Press for the opportunity to read and review.

I don’t think I could’ve been less emotionally invested than I was in those two people. I think the issue is that if I knew them in real life, I would absolutely avoid being in the same room as either of them. Like truly we are 100% incompatible. She wielded her “machete of truth” in hypocritical ways and he just couldn’t be bothered that he was carrying wedding rings as the best man but was like eh feck it let’s have sex and arrive late TO THE WEDDING??? They both had not like other girls personalities and were selfish.

He kept going on about his ex girlfriend but then he gave her an ultimatum to pick up her stuff when she’d been asking the whole time to pick it up!! Like yay dude congrats for finally moving on but check yourself at that point it was your fault the stuff was still there! And I don’t think she was even a shitty person (I could be wrong idk) she just wanted him to be less of a mess and honestly I relate.

But also Carla and Eamon had sex so early on and none of it had any meaning. It was just a thing to do to eat up plot space and fill time. Like literally he entered the pub and they kissed for no reason and then boom everything and nothing. There was zero depth to their relationship because the entire third act happened with her father, leaving just 11 minutes for them to figure out all of their differences and life goals and actually have a real conversation? No thanks. The plot was so random and nothing had any point. The first half felt like a lazy romance and the second was general fiction.

As this was an ALC, I do want to note that the audiobook narrator was fantastic. It’s a single POV story with one narrator. The Irish accents were 🔥 and I liked her voice. If you happen to already care about these characters from past books, I do think you could enjoy this, especially the audiobook.

⭐️⭐️/5 🌶️🌶️.75*/5

Audiobook narration: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

*There were many scenes but I felt nothing. They were open door but pretty vague

Carla spends most of her time traveling the world--something her dad taught her at a young age. Eamon works in IT and can only dream of a life like Carla leads; he feels obligated to be the dutiful son for his mother since his younger brother already struck off for a life of wanderlust. Eamon is tasked to pick up Carla when she arrives in Dublin to attend the marriage of her best friend to his brother and the two feel an instant spark. Can the pair reconcile their different lives?

This was a really quick read that started off with a major insta-attraction: Eamon and Carla fall for each other basically the moment they see each other in a Dublin bar. Because of this, I sometimes felt as if there wasn't a ton of character development or buildup in their relationship. Still, we learned that Carla is wary of getting attached to anyone or anything due to her mom leaving when she was a child. Her father taught her to avoid emotion by traveling and only enforced that fear by encouraging her to take off and travel when he was diagnosed with dementia. Eamon, meanwhile, feels forced to be the stable son thanks to his brother, despite his desire for more. He lives and even dates safely. Sadly, we did not learn much more in-depth about Eamon, and I really liked his character. We only hear things from Carla's perspective.

Like the first two books in this series (don't worry, though, this one can be read on its own without any issue), it can be sad at times, especially when focusing on Carla's dad's illness. Her father was a dynamic character, along with his second wife. The book focuses a ton on traveling, of course, and off-roading--you will learn a lot about these topics! There's an appearance by a very cute cat to break things up!

Overall, I liked this one about as much as THE FLOAT PLAN but not as much as THE SUITE SPOT, which I really loved. I think I like the books with the stable characters staying in one spot more versus the traveling ones, which probably says a lot about my own personality! Still, this is a sweet, cute book and it's a fast read, even if I wished there was a little more to it at times. 3.5 stars.

I received a copy of this book from St. Martin's Griffin and Netgalley in return for an unbiased review.

Another Awwwworthy installment in the adventures of the family and friends of Anna and Keane!

Carla Black is a National Park junkie. Starting form her early childhood, she and her father would pile into her Dad's Jeep Wrangler and rough it in the wilds every summer vacation.

Eamon Sullivan has all the camping equipment and the itchy feet to follow in Carla's footsteps, but his fast paced, demanding job in finance leaves him little room for adventure... that is, until Carla Black kisses the living daylights out of Sullivan at a pub and makes him realize that he has been playing it safe all of his life when it comes to relationships. Carla Black simply mesmerizes him: she is his Wonder Woman with a back pack instead of a golden lasso!

Those were some sizzling hot scenes in the wilds of the Irish Wicklow Mountains:

I was entranced by Carla's description of her adventures with her father at California's Joshua Tree National Park.

But I digress! Anna and Keane are getting married - and Carla is the Maid of Honour, and Eamon is Keane's Best Man. Shouldn't these two be busy hosting bridal showers and stags, you might wonder? Not in this book! Everyone, including the bride and groom, seems to have the travel bug!

Carla does not kid herself that what she has with Eamon is anything more than a "fling." Eamon just got out of a terrible relationship. He definitely couldn't be ready to jump into anything long term, thinks Carla, and she has to return to the U.S. and keep tabs on her father, whose dementia is worsening each day..

But Eamon has a few surprises up his sleeve, and we somehow find ourselves in the wilds of Patagonia, South America, toward the later half of this highly entertaining story. (Even I had caught the travel bug by then!)

Both Carla and Eamon encounter some pretty rough waters throughout this tale.

How can they create something lasting out of what should have been a light and casual affair between two foreigners? I highly encourage you to read this one and find out for yourself. (And sure enough, there will be yet another installment to this highly readable, riveting series!)

Highly recommended! My thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

This was one of my most anticipated romcom audiobooks of 2023. So THANK YOU, Macmillan Audio for my gifted audio copy 💚

In true Trish Doller fashion, Off the Map is a fun, heartfelt romance, and as this one is also narrated by the fabulous Sarah Naughton, the audiobook is superb!! 👏🏻

Carla (Anna from Float Plan's bestie) lives life on her own terms. She was raised by a single dad she calls "Biggie", who instilled a passion for travel from a young age. Carla spends as much time as possible seeing the world (and maybe also escaping the fact that biggie has dementia 🥺)! She's confident, smart, and savvy... And her motto is "Here for a good time, not for a long time." She is your quintessential "good time girl." And though she speaks to Biggie on the phone / FaceTime regularly, she's not spending much time with him. Perhaps she's running away from hard things?

Eamon (the brother of Keane from Float Plan) is an Irishman who's in a bit of a rut. He's still coping with a recent break-up, and life isn't panning out how he'd intended. He's in need of a change. Good thing, too, as he's about to meet Carla, who will definitely shake things up!

Carla goes to Ireland for Anna and Keane's wedding, and Eamon meets her at a pub as the two will drive to the wedding together. The chemistry is instant, and their physical attraction leads to lots of sexy time. 🥵 After all, Carla's just there for a good time, and the sexy, charming Irishman is more than willing to give it to her. But as their drive to the wedding turns into adventure after adventure, these two realize that their connection is more than just physical.

Unfortunately these two have established lives on seperate continents. A relationship would never work! Or would it? 🤔🧐

Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this one!! At first I thought it may be a little too insta lovey for me, but it wasn't. Yes, they have immediate.... attraction. But the feelings come later. I enjoyed their journey, both individually and together. There's a good amount of character growth. Again, Sarah Naughton's narration is top notch, and really adds to the whole experience! Though this is book 3 in an interconnected standalone series, it could technically be read as a single standalone, though I do suggest reading the first two as it helps explain some backstory.

Trish Doller has this knack for creating messy, loveable characters, who are all dealing with some sort of trauma. She handles these sticky situations with so much care, and still manages to create a light, fun rom com. This was a short one, coming in at 272 pages / approx 4 hours on audio for me at my current listening speed. Overall this was really good. 4 stars!

🥵 Note: this book is spicier than the previous two Beck Sisters books. It's doors WIDE open! 🚪

This might be my least favorite out of the 3 books in the Beck Sisters companion series but I still immensely enjoyed reading this book.

I love the adventure and travel aspect of it, I love Carla and Biggie's relationship as father and daughter, and of course, I love Carla and Eamon's love story.

Also, I can't help but gush over Anna and Keane because why not? I love those two so much! FLOAT PLAN will always have a special place in my heart. 💖

What is it with books absolutely pulverizing my emotional state of being lately?!? I was completely unprepared for the last 30% of this book to be so hard to read. This is one of the few books I’ve read that I think would benefit from a trigger warning/heads up mentioned in the beginning of the book. While I have not been personally affected by anyone with dementia, I was still very heartbroken, reading some of what happens in the book. Credit to the author for her amazing writing and the care she put into such a sensitive topic.

That being said, I enjoyed this book enough to read it in one go, forsaking my body’s need for sleep. It was soooo good! My only beef with any of the characters was Carla. She comes across as a little self-centered. She does own it, and definitely grows by the end of the book… it was a little off, putting all the same. Now, Eamon on the other hand, I really do want to know why he is still single! He is completely dreamy!

100% recommend this book!!

Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s for the ARC. All opinions expressed above are completely my own.

Another great story in the Beck sister saga! Although I'm partial to book 2, I appreciated Carla's story.

Carla is a professional drifter going to Ireland for her best friend's wedding. She immediately hits it off with the groom's brother who was sent to escort her there. It was a bit unbelievable but stranger things have happened!

Eamon knows Carla could be the one but Carla has a father with dementia back home so after their whirlwind romance, she gets cold feet and plans to go back home. It was only ever supposed to be a fling!

Can Carla learn to follow her heart and not her head on this one? Dad would want her to let him go and be happy but she has to find her own way.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to listen and review! The narration is A+!

This was…bad. Insta-lust alert.

If you are here for slow burn, choose a different book because there is none to be found here

I was almost instantly turned off from this book when the main characters Carla and Eamon had sex in the first 30 pages. Like — what?!? Where was the buildup? Or tension? They barely talked! I like a slow burn with maybe some witty banter or at least some kind of emotional connection, so I didn’t enjoy or root for their relationship at all. It also had a very “thrown into the story” feel with very little explanation.

The first two thirds of the book basically consisted of Carla and Eamon taking detour after detour on their way to his brother’s wedding and having sex during those detours. Their romance wasn’t developed in the slightest and it was quite boring to read about them. I didn’t like him, and I straight up hated her.

Then the last third, the book changed gears dramatically. Suddenly, Carla, who had been traveling the world, decided to come home for the first time in six years to help her stepmother take care of her father, who was suffering from early onset dementia. Her father didn’t want her to see his mind deteriorate so he told her to explore the world. Which she skipped off merrily to do, never realizing that her stepmother might be struggling to take care of her husband. She came off as incredibly selfish and unlikable. At one point she basically said that she was surprised to learn her stepmother was tired and stressed. Really? You let her do all the work for 6 years - no wonder the lady had caregiver burnout!

So Carla came to stay for all of a week, and helped out a little bit, only to have her father die (rather convenient, wasn’t it? She didn’t have to do hardly any of the work in taking care of him) and she went off with Eamon to scatter his ashes and have more adventures. The end.

Very disappointing.

This was a great romance! Carla goes to Dublin to serve as Maid of Honor at her best friend’s wedding and the groom’s brother, Eamon, who is the Best Man is tasked with picking her up. These two have instant chemistry and their trip across Ireland becomes an adventure that neither of them will forget.

Carla and Eamon were perfect together. Carla is an adventurer and Eamon is more of a planner but he really wants to experience life more like Carla does. Carla is dealing with some things in her personal life and I was happy that she finally took some much-needed steps before the book drew to a close. I really just felt like Carla and Eamon complimented each other perfectly and couldn’t wait to see them figure things out.

Sarah Naughton did an amazing job with the narration. I thought that she was able to add a lot of emotion into her reading which really helped to bring the story to life. I thought that both her male and female voices felt natural and I absolutely loved the accents she used for some of the characters. I think that her excellent narration helped to bring this story to the next level.

I will definitely be recommending this book to others. I thought that this book was very well done and I loved the adventurous spirit of the characters. I hope to read much more of this talented author’s work in the future.

I received a digital review copy of this book from St. Martin’s Press and Macmillan Audio.

As far as I'm concerned Trish Doller can do no wrong!! I fell in love with Float Plan and then later The suite spot but Off the map was just as good with bonus cameos from Anna and Keane.

This book follows Anna's friend Carla as she travels to Ireland for Anna's wedding only to get sidetracked along the way with Keane's brother, Eamon who has always dreamed of adventures but never had the guts to take the leap.

Carla on the other hand lives to travel and helps Eamon find the courage to go after what he really wants. The chemistry between these two was undeniable with both sizzling open door scenes and sweet tender moments of connection.

In addition Carla is dealing with her father's declining health as he battles dementia and I thought the author did such a great job with that storyline!!

Perfect for fans of Abby Jimenez or Sarah Grunder Ruiz. Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!!

Another amazing book by Trish Doller that covers loss, finding your way, and gives a perfect HEA.

OFF THE MAP was sweet, steamy, hilarious, and completely engaging. I couldn't put it down!

I am a reader who does not ever believe Insta-Love. My very practical brain simply cannot handle it. But did I ever buy into when it came to Carla and Eamon! I am OB.SESSED.

These two are flawed, but so damn lovable. And talk about H-O-T! Were the other books in the series this steamy? Because Carla and Eamon were scorching my kindle. 🔥

And, just like with Float Plan, I absolutely cried while reading OFF THE MAP (very unusual for me). This author perfectly describes the messiness and beauty of grief.

OFF THE MAP is one of those rare books that I know will stay with me. I'll be thinking about all of these characters well beyond writing this review.

Massive bonus points for a heroine with short hair.

Now, stop what you're doing and add this book to your TBR immediately!
