My husband insists on keeping this one painting of a woman.
I listened to a true crime podcast… about myself.
I found an old childhood photo. There's something terribly wrong with it.

These tales are longer than those in the bestselling Don't Scream collection by Blair Daniels.

This is a wonderful set of horror reads. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
This was a great collection for reading one story at night before bed. There weren't any stand out five star reads here for me...but a lot of 4 and 3 star reads. I liked the premise of all of them and they were nice and short...but still well written. Perfect for when you want a bite sized story. Definitely looking forward to reading more from this author.
I've followed Blair Daniels' writing since the very early /r/nosleep days, and I was very excited at the opportunity to read this book. Now that I have, my biggest takeaway is that it contains some of her scariest stuff, but also one or two stories that don't quite hit the mark for me.
My favorite stories are: -Hide and Seek -Hotel California -A True Crime Podcast... About Myself -My Girlfriend's Texts Don't Sound Like Her
Each of these stories takes a very simple premise and asks "what could go wrong?" The effect is frequently chilling. "Hide and Seek", which I think is the scariest in the collection, changes from the mundane to the uncomfortable with one small occurrence. The presence of "out of place" details takes these tales firmly to the realm of the uncanny.
In addition, a lot of the stories in this collection have really interesting thematic turns. "The Painting My Husband Keeps" explores the idea of contradictory obsessions really well; I do think that particular story should have been a little bit longer to better explore these ideas, but it's still a fantastic example of themes and motifs being explored in the story's action.
My least favorite stories in the collection were: -The Virtual Interview -There's Something Wrong With my Childhood Photos
Don't get me wrong, both of these stories are well-written and interesting. They're worth reading and the author should be very proud of them.
"The Virtual Interview" just didn't work for me as a matter of personal preference, so I won't do a deep-dive. "Childhood Photos" suffers from being too interesting of an idea. The premise and characters are fascinating and just couldn't be fully captured in a short story; I think this tale would work much more effectively as a novella or novel. The pace of the story was hard to stay immersed with, which was a shame because I do believe this was the single scariest and most interesting premise in the entire book.
All in all, every story in this book is well-written, and almost all are scary in the way that gets under your skin and comes back to you whenever a situation feels wrong. The mundane is twisted into the macabre by the smallest of details. The imagery sticks with the reader, and the prose is straightforward.
I strongly recommend this book to fans of short horror, fans of Blair Daniels, fans of shows like the Twilight Zone or Masters of Horror, or people looking for a unique collection of stories. Before realizing it, you'll fall under the sinister spell of the tales within.

I view this collection of Horror Stories as more of a "starts you thinking for a choose-your-own-adventure" thrill. Each of these Terrifying Tales makes you think AND spins your mind off in different directions. I found myself thinking THESE ARE GOOD CLIFFHANGERS! because I'd inevitably ask myself BUT WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?! lol. I thinks these stories spook your interest just enough to get you to BUY-IN, and then ... just as quickly as your curiosity was peaked, the story ends, leaving you with all sorts of questions AND wondering. 🤔 I found this to be a delightful departure from my string of novel reading AND can't wait to read more from this SERIES of Short Horror Stories! Kudos, BLAIR DANIELS! 👏
I read this in today because The Sun Down Motel is dragging and all these stories were dumb as hell. Only one was a tad bit creepy. The other ones started off with one plot point and ended with something completely different that didn’t even have anything to do with how it started. It wasn’t a twist or anything it just like the author forgot how they started and just slapped together an ominous ending. Also, most of these just ended super abruptly and I think I muttered “that was stupid” every single time. Glad this only took about 90 minutes to read.
Only giving this an extra star because the space story was genuinely unsettling)
Overall, the stories were not as terrifying as I expected. They were good short stories with lot of potential to dive deeper and expand into horror if the author wanted to. For instance, "A True Crime Podcast... About Myself" is a fantastic idea and the author could have kept going with the story to build suspense and fear and give it a conclusion. Instead, it's easy to understand the point but it just kind of ends. "Someone is Living in my Fairy Garden" is a little too close to real-life creepy for my taste. But my favorite story was "Hotel California" - it was creepy, suspenseful, imaginative, had a cool twist and felt fully resolved.

I have some special relationship with horror stories. I used to hate those when I was younger, but somehow over time I have started loving a good (yet imaginary) scare. This book has all the scare wow factor in it! LOVED IT does not even begin to describe the way I feel about it! I rarely stalk friends and family with my book suggestions, but this is going to be an exception. Everyone around me is going to hear my YOU HAVE TO READ THIS ONE, YOU HAVE TO! Loved, loved, loved it. Now I’m hooked and I want to read everything the author has written before.
While I wouldn’t necessarily call these stories scary, they are thrilling, and much like the old are you afraid of the dark books, this one is aimed at adults, and many of the stories are genuinely creepy. If you were ever a fan of R. L. Stein or the fore mentioned series, you’ll probably like this adult version just as much!.

Some where more creepy than others but they were all entertaining. They deal with things that could be real, at least I thought so. I loved My Girlfriend's Texts Don't Sound Like Her. There is some real life experience and what could be wrong. I thought this was a good collection of stories, some creepy some not as but they all kept me reading. Great set of short stories.

The whole collectiong was great, but My favorites were the one about "there's something wrong with my childhood pictures" and "thou shalt not steal"
I listened to it on audible & it had a virtual voice narrator, which made it sound a big like those YouTube videos that read reddit stories. It was so fun!
It's included in audible plus if you use that, and definitely worth a listen/read. :)
I love Blair Daniels’s work and this piece is no exception! The stories were full of amazing twists and heart pounding suspense. I binged it quickly and will have some trouble sleeping tonight. Fantastic short horror collection!.

Talk about my favorite thing to do in my teenage years....read scary stories.
I love this collection. Each brings the goosebumps, cautiously looking over your shoulder and them jump scares at noises or shadows. Turn the lights low and let the scares begin. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.
This is Blair Daniels' best one yet. It brought me back to the Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark books that I grew up reading with my dad. It gave me that nostalgic feeling, but the stories were completely original and terrifying. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a copy!.

This book was a fun, quick read. I enjoyed all of the stories-of course some more than others-but overall they all kept a good pace and were interesting. There were some good twists and creepy moments, but it was like a PG version of a horror movie. This isn’t a bad thing, but much tamer than I am used to reading.
out of the 13 shorts , i really only enjoyed 3 . hotel california was gripping and i wish it was longer .
this book was still indeed , in parts , chilling , and had me hiding under my blanket like my 5 y/o , but it lacked the luster of the previous Blair works unfortunately .
Some interesting short stories here but nothing very scary. Maybe it's because it's difficult to build much terror in short stories or they're just not all that frightening.
I really liked a lot of this stories but a majority of them ended up being 3 stars for me. I think the author could have pushed them a little to make them a little better, but they were not bad by any means. I just wanted a little moreeeee.
While a couple of the stories were fairly good, for the most part I was disappointed with these stories. I love good horror writing, but this book just didn’t do it for me.
Loved this one...love anthologies for a quick read...I don't want to give spoilers but if are on the run and want to read a story here or there this one is a good one...I give this story 5 anthologies out of 5
