Game #4

Seeking Bliss

Rate this book
From USA Today bestselling author BJ Harvey comes the fourth book in the Game series and this time it's the reformed playboy and the single mom.

***
"You have chlamydia."

Three words no man wants to hear.

I've always been liberal with my appreciation of the female form, a firm believer in the 'try before you buy' principle, but living life to the fullest obviously didn't end well for me considering the unexpected—and very unwelcome—consequence of my free and easy past.

After living through the horrendous experience that was informing my recent sexual partners of my acquired 'condition,’ I made a vow to myself – and a bet with my best friend—that the next woman I sleep with will be the ‘one.’

What I will learn is that even when something happens and the games come to an end, there's always the chance of something—or someone—crashing in and changing everything.

So this is my story. It may start with a venereal disease, but I promise you, I’m determined to get my happy ending.

"YOU HAVE CHLAMYDIA."
I am sorry, but this blurb is so ridiculous "nasty". I don't want to read this book. I'll keep picturing a leaking penis. NOOOOO.... lol

"White, cloudy or watery discharge from the tip of the penis;
Pain, discomfort or a 'burning sensation' when urinating;
Inflammation, tenderness and pain in and around the testicles"

And go ahead and google the pictures.

Good side: it made me laugh so hard I choked. And here I thought again nothing would surprise me in bookland. Wrrrooong. LMAO

FOUR FOREVER MINE STARS.

"Be my last just as I am yours."

description

BJ Harvey, is the queen of innuendo and flirty banter. Her books are full to the brim with dirty one liners, coupled with sweet romance. 'Game ender' is no different - here we have a romance plot that has this authors style stamped all over it and once again I can happily say that I was lost in this authors writing.

description

What did I love?
I love that BJ Harvey has the perfect way of showing how much work she puts into her books whilst not taking herself too seriously. Some of the story telling is over the top and wonderfully cheeky and this all comes together to provide a rom com that really works. In this particular book I really enjoyed both hero and heroine. The heroine had lots of backbone with the right amount of 'soft' and the hero was easy to fall in love with. Their connection was sweet - a sort of friends to lovers type story where they were thrown together by an experience. This man whore turned good boy was definitely ticking book boyfriend boxes and there was also plenty of emotion and sweet romance to go along side the humour and BJ Harvey trademark naughtiness. All in all a very likeable romance that I loved to read.

Why not five?
There was plenty to like about this book; the sexy hero, the sassy heroine, the banter, the flirting, even the tongue in cheek innuendo had me in knots. However, and it's a small niggle - I needed something more before this couple decided they were 'it' for each other. I live for the slow burn so it simply came down to personal tastes ... I just needed to have a few more chapters of anticipation and tension to make me tip over into that five star rating.

description

Final thoughts ...
If you like your romance to be comical, smutty and sweet then you will not go wrong picking up a BJ Harvey book. I've liked all that this author has to offer and I really enjoyed my time with this particular novel. It had the right balance of themes for my tastes and with just a little more convincing I would have gladly given a five star. Here's to those authors that really now how to make us smile - BJ Harvs is definitely one of them. Enjoy ... kisses.

I was so excited that we’d get Thomas’s story – toss in that his love interest is Amy, soon to be single mom – and I was hooked!

We got to know Thomas a little bit over the last few books, as Cade’s friend and roommate – we knew that he was a man-whore that after coming down with an STD, he took a step back from bedding all the ladies of Chicago until he found the one –
But nothing prepared me for the swoony-sweetness that came from this man when you tossed a baby into his arms!

Book four in the series, Game Ender absolutely takes the cake as my favorite in the series. There was just this perfect storm created for these two characters to find one another. Amy was this strong woman who is forced to be a single mom after giving into temptation for a night, but takes it all in stride. She has a group of loving friends to offer her support and finds her biggest cheerleaders in the strangest of places. In Thomas.

The bond between Thomas and baby is instant. I love a story with a reformed man-whore that just needs to find the right person to make him change his way, or in this case – the right people.

Low on the drama and high on the laughs, Game Ender is a fantastic read. It was rom-com at its best. Harvey balances the serious theme of a single mom falling in love while still ensuring the witty banter she’s known for stays intact. This story had all of the feels and the best moments were the little moments these made with their little makeshift family.

Over the years, I feel like these characters have become real friends and it’s a little bittersweet saying goodbye to the second generation of characters, with a little hope that the third generation might one day resurface with their own crazy antics (hint hint). But this journey was a fantastic one. I’ve been lucky enough to have read all of BJ’s books and I love seeing the growth as an author from that first book to this last one.

I’m still holding out for Cam’s book and still staking my claim. #CamIsMine #DogTagsAreHot #GiveMeHisBook

I enjoy B.J. Harvey’s books, but this one was my less favorite.
I had NO problem with STD plot, I even liked that the author finally spoke about this issue.
There are so many manwhores in the romance world, who slept with half of earth population, and always stayed clean. It’s impossible!!! I respect this author for real approach of “active” sexual life with many partners.

BUT!!! I had a problem how this male protagonist/MP got “infected” and what he did afterwards.
He didn’t get Chlamydia form his permanent f*ck-buddy, not from a woman he knew and exchanged health information, no, he slept with a random woman (who he met 2 times) WITHOUT condom! He neither forgot to wear condom nor the condom failed – he didn’t put it on purpose.
HOW? How an adult man could sleep with a stranger without protection? I just can’t get it. Chlamydia was a very “easy” STD, he could have gotten an incurable disease and infect others. Because he slept with 10 OWs after the unprotected sex with “Clam”-giver- woman (he assumed he got it from this ONS, but wasn’t 100% sure, but this one was his “joker”).
10 OWs!!! Even if he used condoms with these 10 OWs the STD “transmission” was still possible – e.g. oral sex. It was UNRESPECTFUL and IRRESPONSIBLE! Shame on him! Such MP didn’t deserve any cure or/and HEA. Me too cruel? Maybe… But when I think about one of these 10 OWs I don’t have much heart and understanding.
He put their health and lives in danger! IRRESPONSIBLE!

Was it his 1st rodeo without protection?
I just can’t understand the level of his stupidity!!! Disgusting!!!

The above point was my major trigger.

The second one is more about my personal preference.
The MCs knew each other for a long time (they had mutual friends) and the H had NO feelings, nothing toward the h. He continued to sleep with countless OWs after meeting the h. The worst part – the h liked him, she was “lightly” in lust with him, but had to witness his countless ONSs.
It’s beyond my understanding how a woman can want a man whom she saw whoring himself around.
Yes, I’m that naïve that I believe when a soul-mates meet each other there is some spark, at least romantic/emotional acknowledge of each other.
She asked him why after all these years, when he didn’t give her a second glance, he suddenly fell in lust with her now. Unfortunately, he didn’t give her/me a sufficient answer.

Apart from me no one in this book had a problem with H’s past, not even h’s father… Really?!

There was little chemistry and not much feeling between MCs. At least for me. Even after he “woke up” and saw her as a woman.
It didn’t happen over night, it didn’t happen after their “talk” at the bar when the h gave him some comfort. It didn’t happen when the H got pregnant, he didn’t like her then, or I couldn’t see his feelings.
His “wake up” call was her giving birth to her son; the H even saw her lady-parts and helped by the birth (since it happened in a grocery store). He helped her afterwards with the baby and household, and one time she made a joke that he liked/wanted her only because of her baby. Well, this joke was actually how I understood the whole “sudden” love.
He was in lust love with the idea of a single woman with a baby who desperately needed him. Sorry, but I didn’t believe in his romantic feelings. I felt zero chemistry till approx. 80%. IMO.

It’s also my personal preference, but I don’t like when a heroine is put in a situation I, as a reader, pity her. Damsel in distress is not my cup of tea. And this heroine was one of those. I mean, it’s ok to speak to your baby and tell him about your insecure and how plain you are and how hot the man is, but NOT in front of the baby monitor and not when the man you speak about is on the other end. Ugh!!!
I don’t like when a heroine looks pathetic and a hero plays cool.
But it’s me, my opinion and my preference.

The whole drama, secret etc. with baby’s daddy (and his identity) was unnecessary. IMO.

And, again my preference: there are 2 things that must be done by men and never by women: to take out the garbage and to propose the marriage. She went on one knee and asked him to marry her… In this situation and with this couple I wish he would have proposed.

The writing was good. Cute epilogue. Liked how the H loved h’s son.

So,… apparently it’s-me-case…
And/or I just couldn’t put the grudge down and held it till the end.
Nothing would justify his irresponsible and selfish behavior with lack of protection and OWs!
Nothing!

top pick

It's hard to describe the amount of joy that I feel when I read a romance from BJ Harvey. When it comes to alluring, smart, hilarious, super sexy and sweet romantic comedies, this author is a TOP go-to author for me! GAME ENDER had me in tears, not only from the hilarity of pretty much EVERYTHING in this book, but with the heartfelt emotion that poured out of each page. BJ Harvey definitely DELIVERS some of her BEST WORK in this amazing series with Thomas and Amy's story. GAME ENDER is the COMPLETE PACKAGE in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY!

"So was there a goal in deciding to not have sex?"

"Yeah, to give myself time and clarity to find exactly what I've been looking for."

"And what was that?"

"You."

GAME ENDER is book four of the Game Series and in my opinion it's the BEST of the series! I think I say that with each new release in the series, but it's so freaking true! I don't know how she does it, but BJ Harvey TOPS herself every single time. This book can be read as a standalone, and if you are a newbie to this series or this author, be prepared to become absolutely ADDICTED! But if you've been keeping up with this series, you know a little bit about these characters and you are about to learn a WHOLE BUNCH MORE!

"I may not be perfect, but I know I'm going to be the best man for her."

GAME ENDER is about a reformed playboy who falls for a single mother. What more do you need? I would be a goner for this book after reading that single line! Thomas and Amy are familiar with the term friend zoned. But circumstances bring them closer than ever and creates a connection that will change their entire world. Thomas has this intense NEED to be there for Amy and her child for whatever they need. Amy thinks nothing of it and figures he is just being a good guy, even though she has always hoped for so much more. What Amy doesn't know, is that Thomas wants out of the friend zone for good.

Their connection grows into something so profound and beautiful it will make your heart hurt and your stomach clench. BJ Harvey gives her readers a sexy and sweet, slow-burning romance full of so much heart, passion, and laughter. It will make your heart soar and your smile grow with every turn of the page.

All of these characters from this series have quickly become a family to me and it brings a smile to my face every time I think of a certain line in the book or of all of the sexy shenanigans that have transpired between them. It was sad to let these characters go after reading the very last page, but I know we will meet again soon, because this entire series is a definite re-read for me. If you are looking for tons of laughs, loads of sexy times, and plenty of irresistible characters, GAME ENDER and the entire GAME SERIES, is definitely FOR YOU! Not only is GAME ENDER a favorite of the series for me, it's a FAVORITE of the year as well! Nobody puts a smile on your face faster than a BJ Harvey romantic comedy!

4 sweet and swoony stars!

The final book in the Game series, and a gorgeously sweet love story that had me laughing, grinning and swooning all the way through. A reformed playboy and a single mother with a newborn – cue the quivering ovaries!

Thomas is the best friend of Cade, and from the last book in the series, we know that he is voluntarily celibate. And here, we get all of the details…

“So…what’s the emergency?” He says as soon as the consultation room door closes behind us.

“First, you’ve gotta swear on your life that you will not breathe a word of this to anyone.”
His lips twitch and he lifts an eyebrow at me. “So it involves your dick then?”

Yes, Thomas has received one of those diagnoses that nobody wants to hear. And while the ‘issue’ is cleared up quickly, it jolts him into looking at his life and realizing that he can’t be a playboy forever, so he makes a deal that there will be no more sleeping around, and that the next woman he is with will be the elusive ‘one’.

Amy has always had a crush on Thomas, but her romantic life comes slamming to a halt when she finds herself pregnant after a one night stand. With the ‘father’ not interested in being a part of her and her baby’s life, she’s on her own – but doing it with the support of a wonderful family and a fantastic network of friends.

An unexpected moment between them brings Thomas all up into Amy’s life, and he instantly becomes her biggest supporter – he is there for her and her baby boy, and while she assumes that he’s just being ‘friendly’, Thomas very quickly realises that there is so much more to Amy than he ever imagined.

Tonight we had a moment and she may not realize the significance of that yet, but I’m damn well going to make sure that she does.

I loved these two together! From friends, their relationship develops slowly with lots of sweet, fun moments, and the chemistry builds as they admit their feelings and begin to tentatively explore them. It’s gorgeously romantic and the pacing builds the love story beautifully so that we get to feel everything right alongside them.

I want the first time to be the best first kiss in the history of first kisses. One that brands her, burns into her soul and ruins her for all future kisses from anyone but me.

Oh Thomas… *dreamy sigh*. There is just something awesome about a guy who can look at a new mother, tired, rumpled and covered in baby sick, and still find her beautiful as he falls madly in love with her. And don’t even go there with Thomas and the baby. His instant love for little Brody is just gorgeous, and seeing him step in with the little guy is heart-meltingly gorgeous.

The emotion build naturally between them and it’s a delicious slow burn and, of course, the sexy time is hot!

But the sex is just a side bonus, because this love story is all about the feels, and I loved it! There’s no unnecessary drama or game playing, it’s just two people slowly and realistically falling for each other, figuring it all out and finding a way to make it work. It’s sweet and happy and heart-meltingly romantic, and I loved it!

“So there was a goal in deciding not to have sex?” …
“Yeah, to give myself time and clarity to find exactly what I’ve been looking for.”
She slants her head, her eyes studying me. “And what was that?”
“You.”

*dreamy sigh*

Of course the characters from the Game and Bliss series are all a part of the story, and I loved catching up with them and seeing where they are all at. The girls’ time was fun, Amy’s relationship with Sean melted my heart, and Thomas and his best friend, Cade, were fantastic.

“You have a goofy grin on your face,” Cade says, breaking my concentration. “And your phone is vibrating more than my wife’s bedside drawer.”

It’s a gorgeous ride from start to finish, it ends beautifully, and there’s a really sweet epilogue which gives us a glimpse into their future and finishes everything off really nicely.

I loved it – 4 stars.

GAME ENDER by B.J. Harvey is the fourth book in her Game series and features Cade's roommate, Thomas Calhoun totally falling head over heels for Amy, a bartender in Sean's club, Throb and good friends with Mia and Abi. Yes, everyone in this series is deeply connected.

Thomas is the perfect dreamy, swoon-worthy boyfriend most women dream about finding. He's gorgeous, built, financially successful and claims he has 9 inches to offer up. He says all the right things. Does all the right things. And is completely on board with a full-on commitment for forever. And in Amy's case he not only pampers her (the man does her dishes for goodness sake!!), he pampers and dotes on her newborn son. Add to that, he was there for her in a sudden time of need in a way that totally bonds them and little Brody. How can Amy resist falling for him?

Amy doesn't know quite what to think of Thomas's sudden devotion and selflessness and is so busy taking care of her newborn she doesn’t worry about it. She's just grateful he's stepped up and willing to be such a great friend. But Thomas isn't willing to stay friend-zoned for long because he isn't about to let an amazing angel like Amy slip through his fingers. Since Amy has had a bit of a crush on Thomas forever, she isn't about to resist his attention even if she doesn't quite understand his sudden interest. Especially since everyone knows he's been celibate for about a year.

This was a funny, romantic and very steamy love story, but watch out for the end of chapter 4... I had some sentimental happy tears running down my cheeks after that one. Good story. Interesting characters. Sweet baby boy. Dirty, coming off 15 months of abstinence, sex. Don't miss this one! 4 stars

Some people have their life planned out and have things they want to achieve. Some people are more 'go with the flow' and like a bit more spontaneity in their lives. However, as much as we think we can have control over what happens to us, sometimes life throws you curve balls. This is how the story of Thomas and Amy begins.

Thomas has been on a self imposed celibacy for the last 12 months. He has always been a bit of a player, he has the looks to attract many interested females. He likes having sex so if it's on offer and he is attracted to the lady offering then it would be rude not to right? Well, on one occasion he was wrong. And this is how he was diagnosed with chlamydia.

Having your man bits under threat is a sure fire way to make a guy reconsider his lifestyle choices and this is why he chose to remain 'sexless' until he finds 'the one.' She will be the last person he ever sleeps with so he needs to take his time and be sure. The circle of friends that Thomas moves in have all settled down, some are married and have children. They all seem so happy an content, Thomas came to realise that he wants that too. Amy's life changing moment was when she discovered she was pregnant. This was exacerbated when the guy who impregnated her wiped his hands of her and the unborn child. Amy is a tough girl though and she decided to do it with or without him. She moves in the same circle of friends as Thomas so she has a lot of support from them all and knows that they will be there when she needs them.

When the moment of birth happens it goes nothing like she thought it would, any birthing plan she had is forgotten and her beautiful baby makes a roaring entrance into the world. As Amy adjusts to her new life as a single mum, there is one person who completely surprises her. Thomas. He is showing her a new side to him, a caring and thoughtful side. Okay, she has always thought he was very hot and fuckable but that is the last thing on her mind as she copes with trying to sleep and cracked nipples.

Thomas is in complete awe of Amy. She is taking to motherhood like a duck to water but everyone needs a helping hand once in a while and he finds himself spending a lot time at her place helping out where he can. A beautiful friendship / connection is growing between them and there are many moments of cuteness between Thomas and the bubba.

Thomas is feeling things he hasn't experienced before, dating isn't usually something he does - let alone getting to know a woman before he sleeps with her. He has all these feelings swirling around in his head and heart. He feels this strong desire to protect and care for Amy. Has he finally found the one? Could Amy be the girl he has been waiting for? Who knew that he would find it at the cereal aisle of a supermarket? As these two navigate their way from friendship to something real I was delighted to have a front row seat as it all beautifully unfolded.

As always, BJ Harvey drew me in with her witty banter between the characters, the way she weaves all the people from previous books effortlessly into the story and also gave me ovary exploding moments too. Oh and just in case you are wondering there is plenty of sexing too!

There's nothing that attracts me more to a romantic comedy than a playboy and a baby. I mean seriously, you know that's gonna blow your heart out AND you're gonna laugh your butt off! I've read enough books by B.J. Harvey to know that she would get it right and she did! She balanced the comedy and the romance perfectly.

I'm not one to give away plot but this is in the blurb so I can mention my take on its hilarity! Our story begins with our hero having and STD and our heroine becoming pregnant from a one-night stand ... Bwaahahahahaha, C'MON, who isn't down to reading THAT?!

Turns out that this story is way more than just a romantic comedy. So much heart you guys. Thomas was ridic swoony and Amy was just so so strong and baby was just **happy sigh** And let me tell you, there is NOTHING better than a story with a playboy being brought down to his knees by a little bundle of joy :) #TRUST

If you're looking for a really well done, feel good romance that is low on the drama and high on heart, then look no further!

I have loved this series so far and this last book just nailed it. Thomas was a cocky playboy who had a life-changing situation that had him re-evaluating what he wanted in life...... which was one woman! Amy was a sassy woman who didn't mind casual sex until one night left her with a little surprise.....she was pregnant! Take one reformed cocky playboy add one sassy, sexy woman with a baby that equals one sweet, romantic swoon-worthy read you won't want to put down until you see the words "The End"!

Game Ender by B.J. Harvey is the fourth and final installment in the Game Series, a spin-off series from the Bliss Series.
Game Ender can be read as stand-alone, but for better understanding I recommend to read in order.
The other books in thgis series are: Game Player; Game Maker and Game Saver.

This is Thaomas and Amy´s book.
Meet Thomas Caldwell, does only ONS, he never in his life wanted a relationship . And that brings him a STD.
Now he´s had enough and swears no more sex till his One comes.
And Amy, she´s a bartender and a soon to be single mom.

They know each other for years. But now is there a connection and chemistry. It´s not crazy insta, it´s more a slow burn. A beautiful sory about two people who discover they are each others The One.

I loved the characters and I loved the writing.
Game Ender is my favorite read in this series. 5 Stars and Thank you BJ Harvey!

~ 5 Big Whoosh Stars ~

Who would ever think an STD could change your life for the better?? Well read Game Ender and see how it transformed a playboy bachelor into a loving man and father.

Game Ender was a sweet, sexy and romantic read about unconditional love and that blood relations isn't what makes a family.

This was another GREAT addition to this fabulous series!!! BJ Harvey can do no wrong when it comes to these characters. Every book she gives us I just devour!! I am truly sad to see this series end and knowing I have to say good bye to these characters. I truly have felt a part of their lives over the years.

Game Ender is the fourth and final book in her spin-off Game Series. This book/series can be read as a standalone, you don’t need to read the Bliss Series first or the previous books in the Game series to fully enjoy this book. I would highly recommend reading all the Bliss Series and the Game series before reading this book, but that is because you will then get the full experience of these AMAZING characters.

In Game Ender the couple that we follow are Thomas and Amy. Thomas is the best friend of Cade and a well known playboy. Amy is the best friend of Abi and Mia (both you read about in the other books of this series). I love how Ms. Harvey has weaved such a web with this cast of characters. That is why I highly recommend reading these books in order because their lives are so entangled with each other. I will say though that even if you only read this book...you won't be lost or confused at all. Ms. Harvey fills in the blanks when need be. Amy has become pregnant and is forced to raise the baby by herself....that is until Thomas steps into the picture and helps her out. Thomas and Amy form a friendship while Thomas also forms a bond with Brody. I loved watching these characters open up to each other and show everyone that blood isn't always what makes a family.

One thing I have loved about this spin off series, is that we get to reconnect with the characters from the Bliss Series and the previous Game Series books. We get to see what their lives have become since their books have ended.

Each of these books are fun, flirty, enjoyable and extremely sexy ;) I think Thomas was the swooniest of all the Heroes in the Game Series. Amy talks about the whooshes she gets throughout the story and I know I felt them right along with her. Thomas has stolen a top spot on my book boyfriend list (Right next to Daniel from Temporary Bliss)

As with all of these books in this series, Game Ender, didn’t have a lot of drama, but what drama she did add, was handled well and quick. These books just really make me happy to read and I end with a HUGE smile on my face.

I think what I love the most about this series and BJ Harvey’s books is that she gives us amazing heroines. Her girls are strong, independent and not ashamed of the sexual prowess. No she doesn’t give us sluts or anything but women who like men and aren’t embarrassed to admit it. I also love that she gives us couples who act like adults. Yes they have mountains to climb and obstacles to overcome, but they do it the way you would expect an adult to handle it. Her couples are functional…if that makes sense.

I would again 100% recommend any book of BJ Harvey to any reader. If you are a fan of the fun, sexy and just all around enjoyable read then this is the series to read. If you are a fan of BJ Harvey’s, then you don’t want to miss out on this series or the chance to reconnect with some old friends. If she is a new author to you, dive in and I hope you thoroughly enjoy her books like I have!!!

BJ Harvey has done it again with Game Ender. It is always a bittersweet feeling when a series comes to an end, but when it goes out with a bang like Game Ender, you can't help but smile.

I didn't think anyone would come close to my Mini Walking Dildo, Matt Taylor, but I am here to say that Thomas Caldwell has come to give him a run for his money.

Whilst Thomas and Amy have been in each others orbit for a while, it is a rather unusual event that finally brings them together. And when they do finally get together, it is like the planets have aligned.

'Life is a series of decisions and consequences. They can be good, they can be bad, they can be dangerous, and occasionally surprising."

I adore Amy and Thomas separately, but together, my heart soared.

I loved getting more of the guys and gals from the Bliss and Game series. They characters are quite an incestuous mob, so it would not be one of their stories without the rest of them popping in and out of each book.

I don't want to give anything away about this book, as it is one you need to savour for yourself, Just know that I absolutely adored Game Ender and feel the Ms Harvey definitely left the best till last in this series.

There are several sayings when it comes to things coming to a close....you should always go out with a bang, or save the best for last, after rereading the last book in the Game series I'm even more sure that Harvey heeded these old adages. As I sit here and reflect on the feelings Game Ender evoked, the sense of quiet contemplation, of heady excitement, that rush of love blossoming organically, slowly, the giddy feeling of seeing someone you already know for the very first time, of seeing the parts of them you previously missed and discovering them with wonder and excitement.

Thomas has always had a pretty liberal view when it comes to sex, as long as both parties are consenting adults who are enjoying themselves why not indulge, he'd thought his interactions were not only consensual, but safe, until obviously he wasn't, when Thomas discovers he had contracted an STI, he realises he needs to stop indulging in the one nights and start looking for the forever.

“I want the first time to be the best first kiss in the history of first kisses. One that brands her, burns into her soul and ruins her for all future kisses from anyone but me.”

Amy has always been self sufficient, when life throws obstacles in her path she finds a way to jump over it, or get around it, she refuses to cry poor me syndrome or wallow in self pity. When Amy finds herself with some unexpected news, like always, she charges onward.

As Thomas and Amy development an unlikely friendship, forged through shared experience, they begin to truly see each other for the first time, more than just passing physical attraction, these two start to truly understand what it means to experience that once in a lifetime bonds they see their friends living and begin to realise it could be possible for them to.

“Us girls have our moments of crazy, the measure of a man is how well he copes with them.”

With the quintessential wit and sass that I've come to expect from Harvey, with sexy hijinks and hilariously funny moments, everything about Game Ender was a joy to read. What I truly enjoyed most about the final instalment in this series was how real this story felt, how despite it being a work of fiction there were moments that were raw and genuine and so darn real. This story felt more adult, having that sense of angst I crave from contemporary romance, without feeling too young or too much, their issues were age appropriate, their dilemma's expected and ultimately what resulted was a story that just felt good to immerse myself in and forget about my own troubles for a little while.

What an amazing ride this has been. I have read and adored every Bliss and Game series book. Each book and couple had its own story to tell, each one impossible to put down. These series have given me some of my most favorite characters and have stuck with me. Harvey is one of my go to authors and Game Ender is the perfect example of why.
This time around, the story focuses on Thomas and Amy, and I am completely in love with these two. You all know how it all starts out, Thomas with an STD and Amy with a bun in the oven. The story that follows is both hilarious and incredibly sweet. Thomas really shined in this one. We've seen Thomas as a bit of a clown in the past. He's just out for a good time and never takes anything too seriously. Here we got to see how deep, compassionate, and responsible he could be, and man, I was smitten. Amy pulled me in too. Her snark and wit, along with her strength, resilience, and growing confidence made her such an endearing character.
I was wrapped up in these two. The gradual build of their relationship felt natural and the way they fit together made me swoon.
Harvey completely blew me away with this final installment. It was everything I hoped for and more. I couldn't get enough of the writing, the characters, the storyline, all of it. I'm going to miss this crew, luckily I get to go back and reread. I'm excited to see what new adventure she takes us on next!!

You know you're in for some....interesting....times when a book begins with chlamydia for the hero and an unexpected pregnancy for the heroine. Neither of which they got from the other. Awkward, party of two, your table is ready...

Thomas Caldwell loves him some ladies. Handsome, driven, and good in the sack (of course), Thomas is an equal opportunist. Or at least he was, before an unfortunate run-in with chlamydia had him running for the doctor, and his self-imposed abstinence.

Amy - who may not have a last name because I searched for it and came up empty-handed (which is absolutely irrelevant, but funny to my weird mind) - had a drunken tryst with a former co-worker and now finds herself with an unexpected gift of her own. A pregnancy with which her horizontal mambo partner wants no part of. And her self-imposed abstinence.

These two casual friends are about to be brought together by a late night grocery store run that started in a search for Lucky Charms, but ended with Thomas delivering Amy's baby in the cereal aisle. Awkward, party of THREE, your table is ready...

Game Ender is a hilarious account of what happens when your casual friendship is fast-tracked as a result of baring all in a grocery store birth, because can anything really stay casual after that? Filled with one-liners, loin cloth filled text exchanges, and more blue balls than a Smurf's ball pit, this friends-to-birthing partners-to-lovers story is the perfect way to spend your day.

I only got to read this fourth, and final book, but it works as a standalone. However you do get to know all the people who are the couples from the previous books, so I am eager to go back and read those as well. The characters themselves were probably my favorite part of the story. Before I was even halfway through I found myself thinking about how much I wished I had a group of friends like these. I loved the reference to being a "V-Card holder" even when things were the way they were and she actually was obviously not a virgin. This was a very sweet story, there were definitely obstacles to overcome, read the synopsis above with the whole STD line of the story. But to me, someone who has gone most of their life with drama and obstacles being easily solved, or at least solved in calm, well thought out ways, I enjoyed reading a book where the drama was more like my real life. I am fortunate enough to have a free copy of the first book that I got from a free download off of Amazon at one point, so I can't wait to go back and get to know all of these different characters more and how they became couples.

My first book by BJ Harvey and it definitely won't be the last, I'm heading back to check out the other books in the Game series as well as the Bliss series books!

I loved, loved, LOVED Thomas, Amy and Brody!

This story was sweet, funny and engaging. Thomas experience with the STD and his subsequent decision all lead towards Amy and I was smitten with how he reacted to her and her son. Their connection, growing friendship and developing relationship all made for a really great read.

I enjoyed meeting the characters from the previous books in the series and am looking forward to finding out more about them in their own stories.

Game Ender is a solid 4.5* read for me!

The feels you'll get from this book will make you regret ever picking someone other than Thomas and Amy as your favs in this and every series BJ Harvey has ever written. Bye Noah/Dani love..

I wanted to be Amy. Thomas is such an amazing man. The total package. I didn't think an STD could change a mans perspective. Wanting to grow up and be with just one woman. Turn into such a sweet, sexy, loving, clingy in a great way, mans man! Seriously swooning...

Thomas is one lucky man too. Amy is so loving, understanding, fun, sexy, strong, independent, the list can go on. She is just what Thomas needed. I'm so glad they found each other. They brought out the best versions of themselves becoming a family.

I just can't stop gushing. I loved this book so much!

Thomas, Thomas. I was so glad to get Thomas and Amy's story. We got to know Thomas a little in the other books in this great Game series, and we knew he was a single sexy man who enjoys the women and the fact that he ended up with an STD is probably more common than we think and proves how serious just casual sex is, but anyway Thomas learns his lesson and makes a vow to hold off on sex til it's with the right one but who knew it would be two people. Amy is a great girl who had a one night stand that left a forever memory, how can she raise a child on her own, yeahshe has the help of great friends but she never dreamed that she would have the help of Thomas and maybe, just maybe his heart too. I loved this story, it's real and true to what could happen and the characters are amazing

This book OMG!!! Where do I begin. This book was a special story in my opinion. And show that even when you least expect it, your future is right there and has been all the time. I loved that again, the author shows that again that blood doesn't always mean that it necessarily what is important, it's what's in the heart that is inportant.

Mistakes are a huge in this book but they are great mistakes in the end because the outcome is so worth it. A huge recommend from me

Game Ender- BJ Harvey

5 Million Whoosh Stars
Zach will always be my Game series book boyfriend. My book girls know how much I adore Zach and Danika's book and Zach's entire characterisation. However, I firmly believe that Game Ender is BJ Harvey's best work yet. This book is a piece of art. There are so many different dynamics and kinds of love within this book, I could never cover them all but I'll attempt to illustrate a few, my favourites.

The book focuses on Amy, a single mum and bartender at Throb (Sean's club), and Thomas, we met him originally in Game Saver as Cade's best friend. They first meet early on in Amy's pregnancy, after Thomas finds out he has chlamydia and meets up with a previous hook up at Throb in order to advice her to get tested. Amy is working at the bar that night and witnessed the woman throw her drink in Thomas' face. After seeing how defeated Thomas looks, Amy approaches him and offers an ear and friendly support. I can honestly say I never anticipated to love a book that starts with a chlamydia diagnosis. Obviously nothing happens between Amy and Thomas at this point, but Thomas becomes fascinated by her. And after finding out that the father of her child wants nothing to do with either of them, he makes a vow to himself that he will be there for Amy and her son, for anything either of them needs...

A vow that is sealed when he runs into her late at night in a grocery store...and her water break. I'm guessing every pregnant woman in her last few weeks of pregnancy fears that experience. Your water breaking in a grocery store, and having to give birth on the floor of the store because the ambulance doesn't arrive on time. But like her knight in shining armour, Thomas delivers her baby, eventually with the help of paramedics. And their bond becomes inseparable.

After Amy's son, Brody is born, Thomas is there for her multiple times every week. Cleaning her flat, spending time with her and Brody, just generally being a supportive presence in her life. And it's through these interactions that their bond goes from physical attraction, to an emotional connection. Feelings form, although Amy fights these all the way, believing her focus should be only on her son not dating. I love and respect her for the mum she is, Brody is always her priority, she's willing to sacrifice anything and everything if that's what her son needed. The way BJ Harvey portray motherly love is truly beautiful. But even more than that is how she portrays paternal love. Thomas is not biologically Brody's dad, and yet he demonstrates paternal love towards Brody during every interaction. Even before he has feelings for Amy, he loves her son. I love how Harvey shows that family is what you make it. That genetics does not make a family, love and loyalty does.

Next there's Sean and Amy's relationship. Sean is seen as tough, strong, unyielding. But there's a tenderness we've see in previous books when he interacts with his wife (Sam), their children and Mac. One magical thing we get from this book is to see that tenderness directed at Amy. They have a beautiful relationship, Sean sees her as his little sister and the unconditional love, respect and protectiveness he shows her is wonderful. Again, we see that family comes in many different forms.

The most complex form of love we see in this book though is probably the love that Ryan feels for Brody. We met Ryan originally in Sean and Sam's book, he's Sean's younger brother and a gambling addict. Later on in this book we discover something that we may have already predicted, Ryan is Brody's biological father. And months down the line, he decides to reenter Brody's life, wanting to get to know his son. I empathised so much with Thomas at this point, he'd bonded with Brody, helped to take care of him when he was sick, even helped to deliver him into the world. He had been there since Brody took his first breath and yet here was the proof that legally he had no claim to Brody. That he would always be considered, at most, Brody's 'stepdad'. It's a disgusting social perception, because he IS Brody's dad. He may not be his father but he is his dad. It's (generally) simple to be a father. A single event. But to be a dad is so much harder, so much more complex, but also so much more rewarding, it's a lifetime connection. The main difference between Ryan and Thomas is that Thomas sees that, whereas Ryan saw baggage. He saw that innocent, beautiful baby as an inconvenience. Ryan looks out for himself first, and everyone else never. Thomas does not mention to Amy any of his insecurities or his pain at Ryan being back in Brody's life, because his selflessness and the love he feels for Amy and Brody means he will always prioritise them. However, Ryan does have a beautiful, redeeming moment. When he decided to leave, to abandon Brody once more, I felt furious. How could he be running away from his son? After meeting him and seeing how wonderful that sweet baby is, how could he leave? Because once again, he's prioritising himself. And in a big way he is, but his redeeming moment, the moment that had me in tears, was him giving up his parental rights so that Thomas can adopt Brody if he chooses to. Ryan believes he isn't fit to be a parent at that time, and he was right, he was back in a support programme but it was still a slippery slope. He believes he never will be fit to be in Brody's life, but that if Brody one day decides he wants Ryan to have some kind of involvement, he would be accepting of that. And he allows Thomas to adopt his son, to truly be Brody's dad by making it legal. I say this is the most complicated form of love in the book, because Ryan is the most complicated and faulted character within the series.

To anyone that has had the patience and dedication to get to this point in my review: thank you. I'm honoured. And I hope this helps to illustrate to you the beauty and complexity of this book. I cannot recommend it enough. Thank you BJ Harvey for your beautiful words, they will stay with me.

Title: Game Ender
Author: BJ Harvey

4 unexpected stars

OMG! If there's one thing i can depend on BJ Harvey for, it's for the 'when you least expect it' gawfaw moments. Game Ender was that book. I don't think i've laughed as much with this book as i have in any other book i've read of her in the past. Alright, so the first few words of the blurb are enough to make you go 'what the hell?!?', but let's face it, sometimes we all need that punch in the gut to make you stand up and pay attention. and pay attention i really did. I may not have read the entire series from the beginning, but i did read a few of them, enjoying each and every one of them, and yet, there was something about Thomas' story that had me hooked from the very start, reading faster and faster as i kept going on the story.
a
4 breath taking dreams

It was funny, emotional and everything i could have asked from a romantic comedy, so i can't complain about that. Many parts had me cheering for the characters to make it, to surpass their difficulties and especially to find their special someone, no matter what obstacles they must face - and let's face it, there's one huge obstacle that they need to face right from the bat. The chemistry is undeniable and i simply couldn't get enough of it and can only hope that there's more from BJ Harvey that i get to experience because there's simply something about the way that she writes that pulls you right in, making you want and need to keep reading, no matter what.

This lacked depth for me. It felt like the majority of the book was just the MMC and FMC lusting after each other, and that the friendship part of their relationship developed and happened mostly off-page.

Thomas and Amy... Wow, just wow!
I thought Cade was my favourite, but I think Thomas may have just eclipsed him. That man is all kinds of amazing. And hot!
The way both Amy and Thomas started out to how they ended up, was a beautiful story about how friendship can develop into something beautiful.
The way BJ Harvey wrote Thomas's character, I could not help but fall in love with him. He never once wavered from his choices, which only served to solidify his place as one of my favourite characters from this author. The way their relationship developed naturally, made it feel real.

friends to lovers?

Thank god for TikTok! I was scrolling as I usually do and found this gem. I have had some really bad luck with TikTok books, but sometimes, I find a winner. And holy smokes, this is a ball of fireworks. It’s a little bit of a slow burn, as we go from friends to lovers. I’m not going to spoil anything, but I laughed til I cried way too many times. Those side characters? Ridiculously hilarious. I will be reading more from this author.
