No relationships, no commitments, and no strings. Just pure, unadulterated pleasure. When he finds a gorgeous, red-haired young man roaming the corridors of Perdition, clearly the worse for wear, he is delighted to discover a kindred spirit. His name is Alexander White, so it’s clear they were made for each other. Both want no-strings, no-commitment pleasure, so it’s all clear. Black and White, in fact! Then Jasper discovers what White is wearing beneath his well-fitted gentlemen’s garments and he is drawn into a world of hedonism he never knew he needed.
Alexander White’s life is … complicated. He needs money. The quickest way to improve his finances is at the gaming tables and The Perdition Club is the perfect place to play. He has no time for commitments or relationships, but he most definitely has needs. Finding the right man to meet those needs can be difficult, but in Jasper Black he finds exactly the man to appreciate his desires and someone who doesn’t want commitment either. It's the perfect arrangement. What could possibly go wrong?

An opposites-attract, found family, MM Regency romance filled with love, laughter, lace, and Gooseberry Jam that will plunge you into the passion and hedonism that is the Perdition Club, and headlong into the glorious chaos that is a Black and White family!
Biography My name is Ruby Moone and I love books. All kinds of books. My weakness is for romance, and that can be any kind, but I am particularly fond of historical and paranormal. I decided to write gay romance after reading some fantastic books and falling in love with the genre, so am really thrilled to have my work published here. The day job takes up a lot of my time, but every other spare moment finds me writing or reading. I live in the north west of England with my husband who thinks that I live in two worlds. The real world and in the world in my head...he probably has a point!
What a difference an author makes! While I found the first book in this multi-author series to be trite and lacking in every way, at the hands of the talented Ruby Moone, the second book shines (and can be read as a standalone!).
Sexy and poignant, Black & White is about Jasper Black and Alex White who meet at Perdition when a drunk-off-his-ass Alex attempts to seduce the Goliath he finds in the hallway.
The Goliath ... errr ... Jasper won't take advantage of an inebriated man. Which isn't to say he's not interested (the lacy undergarments help seal the deal!).
What begins as the 19th century equivalent of friends-with-benefits (no phones, so the men "call" on each other in person) turns into something much more, especially once Jasper finds out about Alex's living situation and meets Alex's three younger bothers (10-year-old Eddie and 6-year-old twins, Charlie and David).
I'm usually irritated by kids in romance novels, but I adored the boys! Their conversations with Jasper were hilarious and charming, and Eddie was not at all sneaky about Jasper doing his Latin homework.
The touch of hurt/comfort broke my heart. Alex was worried about dragging Jasper into the middle of his struggles, but Jasper was having none of that. He became Alex's rock in every way.
While I would have loved an epilogue, I was left with no doubts that Jasper and Alex were in it for the long haul.
I hope the author can do a solo spinoff of this series because I'd like to know more about the secondary characters who were introduced.
What a beautifully written book. This is exactly what this series should've been, books written like this author wrote it. 4 - 4.25⭐
This is for all the romantic souls out there. Let's pretend that this indeed could've happened. Maybe you'll cry a little too.
🟢 Owner of Perdition/a member of the club 🟡 Age gap 26/32 🟠 A wonderful cover, although I'll say the top guy is Jasper and he's very buff, much more than Alex 🟣 Palpable chemistry, romantic 🔵 Found family 🌶️ Good sex scenes, plentiful; good intimacy as well; kissing, hugging, cuddling, sleeping together; oral, penetrative; t/b hinting at vers
The main characters Jasper and Alex have fantastic chemistry, they are both drawn to each other, it's natural, the whole relationship development gradual, believable and everything about them appetizing.
When Jasper, the very well put-together gentleman of the Perdition owners finds out what his new lover Alex also deals with in his personal life (takes care of his brothers, has financial worries and terrible migraines), he decides to cross the line in their arrangement and goes from just sex to being there, being available and actively participating in everything in Alex's life without being perceived as a saviour.
I loved how their relationship progressed, it was experienced in everyday things like taking care of someone when they're sick, when they need comfort, when they need to just cry and Alex found all that with Jasper. He found that and amazing sex, to be sure. Sex was good, passionate with lace panties on top.
But Jasper really was a rock, he's a fantastic character and him and Alex couldn't be more compatible.
There really isn't much to say other than this book is worth reading. It has substance and gives you the whole story, while I felt the other ones quite lacking.
Simon's story was the first on my list, but if I compare it to this one, it doesn't really come close. It's good, but not this good.
Ruby Moone is one of my favourite historical romance authors and here she delivers an absolute treat of a book.
There's very little I love more than a grumpy one finding himself falling for a sunshiny man who brings along his own existing family to love.
Here it's club owner Jasper and Alex, a young men doing his best to keep things going for his three younger brothers while they await news of their eldest one, a soldier in Wellington's army.
Their mutual attraction turns into a mutual 'benefits only' relationship but Jasper soon finds himself embroiled in Alex's homelife - something the younger man had never dreamt of, given his situation with his siblings.
It's an utter gem of a book, with three cute boys who act their ages and, when the most terrible of news arrives, Jasper is there to provide a rock solid foundation of support.
Alex fears things will end, leaving them all heartbroken, but Jasper proves he's here to stay - for more than just the sexy silk underwear he's enthralled by!
I do like family and kids in my romance - though parents, especially in historical romance, tend to be very annoying. It has been a while since I read M/M romance with that trope so I'm delighted that Black & White from Ruby Moone delivers that. This is part of multi-author series. I haven't read the other books and I have no issue. Safe to say that every title here can be read as stand alone.
At first, Jasper Black and Alex White rendezvous will only be about sex - no strings attached. However, after Alex fails to come on one of their appointments, Jasper decides to track him to Alex's house and finds himself in the midst of family in chaos.
As much as I enjoy Jasper and Alex progress to relationship, I cannot help to melt because of the three boys here. I LOVE reading how Jasper interact with them, and that they play a hand on his decision to want to stay forever.
This one was ok. I wasn't a fan of the first one at all and only read this one because I needed to read a historical book for a challenge. I'm not sure that this is my genre anymore. I just find it to be so unbelievable because it doesn't really fit the time period we are supposed to believe it's taking place in.
Black and White is the second installment of the multi-author Perdition club series, with this work authored by Ruby Moone. The whole series is a collection of stories that each feature someone connected to the London gambling establishment Perdition. There were a few references to MCs from the other installments. Moone did a lovely job incorporating these characters without making me feel like Alex and Jasper’s story was missing something. The story is told in third person perspective and, unlike many omniscient narrations, I felt like Jasper’s reactions felt pretty inscrutable. Maybe it was part of his countenance–the man is often described as having serious expressions, drawn brows, and such. That worked for me, though. Jasper was easy to see as a Very Serious Man who has given up on love. So the very idea he would seek out Alex when Alex fails to attend one of their pre-arranged meetings, then the way he doesn’t run from Alex’s chaotic home life all felt like tacit indicators Alex meant something to Jasper, even if the man didn’t say it.
Very enjoyable read. Jasper Black is the co-owner of the Perdition Club, a gaming establishment known for its discretion. Alexander White, a patron of the Club, gets a little too deep into the bottle and needs some help to stagger home. This chance meeting was one of the best, and definitely fortuitous for them both. Despite being a novella, this story dives deep into the emotions and fully explains the circumstances. Highly recommend. (This series is written by multiple authors, explained well, and can be read as a standalone.)
Alex and Jasper meet after a drunken night. Jasper is a good guy. He doesn't take advantage of Alex that night. They do become friends with benefits. Alex has things going on in his life that he doesn't want to pull Jasper in. Overall an entertaining read.
This is only the second Moone book I've read and I think they do a pretty good job with historical MM romance. However, not my favourite, and I think this book is too short to really showcase what Moone can do with their writing. Note that I haven't read any other books from this series besides this one so far so it can definitely be read as a stand-alone - I didn't feel the details of the first book's couple really mattered enough to warrant reading that one first. This is one of those series' where every book is by a different author and I'm not into that so I probably won't bother with any of the others. I just picked this up because I enjoyed the other Moone book I'd read and the premise of Black & White was enticing, though it didn't quite live up to what was promised. There's a big joke throughout the book of Alex White and Jasper Black getting together because of their last names - and that got pretty old fast - but the characters themselves were charming. One enticing part of the premise is that Jasper is part-owner of a gay club in Recency London that caters to more illicit acts (besides homosexuality in general) as well as a gambling hall (or gambling hell in the parlance of the time). Alex is there with some friends but then drunkenly stumbles into the back room/living quarters and right into Jasper's arms. Due to mutual attraction, they opt for a one-night-stand and that's when Jasper and the reader discover that Alex likes to wear frilly undergarments. Now besides the few times we're told he's wearing different sets during their then and future couplings, we're not really given any reasoning or details concerning this. Nothing about if he's always been into this, if he was trying it out just for this club, who makes or where are these supposedly custom garments made and acquired, etc. It's a throwaway detail about Alex's character that wouldn't be detectable if removed, which was disappointing as it's the main draw I had to this book. It even made the cover! There's also a lot of children in this book as Alex is the 2nd of 5 boys who are orphans. Their father left most of everything to their stepmother and oldest brother; the former abandoned them immediately and the latter is fighting on the continent as this is during the Napoleonic Wars. Alex has been gambling with his Very Smart brain (he can count cards, basically) to keep them afloat but this gets complicated about 3/4 way through the book when they learn why they haven't been hearing from their oldest brother in months. Jasper's fatherly instincts appear out of nowhere and he decides it's his new life mission to help these poor souls. The premise kind of devolves from what could have been a fun, sexy historical romance and into Full House territory which I didn't care for. What kept the stars in my rating were the good characterization and historic details and also that I am kind of a sap for hurt/comfort tropes. If you could remove the children and death and also keep the story in Club Perdition (actual name here), it would have been so much better.
The perdition club seems like a fun place to go, too bad it’s fictional. Aside from that I am loving this series. This book is wonderful from the title right through to the end. Jasper and Alexander start out as perfect for each other as men who want only a no strings relationship and end up perfect for each other even as what that means to the two of them changes significantly. Ruby Moone has written a delightful journey to send these two men on and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a historical romance so you can tell that the ending is going to be a happy one and I don’t want to give anything away but I did find that Ms. Moone has given these guys some interesting challenges to work through that make this such an interesting story. Looking forward to the next book.
This story is just very sweet. The beginning of the relationship was very sudden and unexpected but soon the arrangement turned a little more intense. These m/c’s, plus all the little ones, make this book so fun to read. Some sadness that is touching but mostly a good love story with a great HeA. I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book.
I actually picked this up because of the cover, which is gorgeous and gives very contemporary vibes (and doesn't seem like a historical Regency cover lol).
I liked the play on their names Alex "White" and Jasper "Black" and them having a no-strings "black and white" fling. It may have started that way but it grew into more (of course) and I loved their chemistry and interactions. Especially when Jasper got to meet Alex's siblings.
Oh I really liked the bonding family feels in this story. Alex has 3 younger brothers that he has to take care of and when Jasper meets them, it's chaos inside the house but he was able to reign them in. THIS. THIS IS MY KRYPTONITE. I love when an MC bonds with the other MC's young siblings/children and they get attached to each other. It's so endearing to read about and just awwwwww.
Highly recommend this book for those that like sweet, fluffy, family-feels, historical romance.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest review. All opinions are my own and not influenced by the author.
Love, laughter, and forever made this a great read. Loved the boys and they had me laughing so much. Never wanted it to end, but then again can't wait for more.📚😍📚😍📚😍📚
This was SO GOOD. This author is such a great storyteller. You just read her books in one shot today and immediately look up her back list to find more treasures.
This was lovely and felt fresh with exceptional writing, unexpected details, and clearly a warm relationship from the beginning. Excited to explore this author now!
I glommed this all in one day. Did not want to put it down. Sweet story of a one night stand that becomes more. Determined to keep things strictly sexual it's amusing watching Jasper break his own rules, time and time again as he gets more deeply embroiled in Alex's family life. A nice nod to kink in Alex's lacy undergarments, but this story is focused more Alex's home life than Jasper's club. And the children are adorable. Highly recommended
Best Laid Plans…! An inebriated Gentleman Alex White stumbles upon stoic Club Co-Owner Jasper and the un-relationship begins. This is an enjoyable, lighthearted, quick, historical read. It has likable, amusing MCs, especially Alex, and a predictable but sweet premise. Perfectly charming!
The cover got me to read this, straight up. It's a gorgeous cover, and I don't apologize for using that as the reason I decided to read it.
Lucky for me, this was more than just a pretty illustration! It's a quick, satisfying novella that gives enough of everything where it doesn't feel too rushed!
Jacob Black is part owner of a gambling hell and Alexander White is a skilled gambler. When they run into each other one night, Alex drunkenly throws himself into Jacob's capable arms. The morning after, they agree to a discreet affair. As Alex says, their last names are too perfect a match to pass up such a connection. After a scorching night together, neither is quite ready to let the other go. But Jacob ends up tangled with Alex's chaotic home life and eventually, in his heart as well.
Alex is witty and unapologetic while Jacob is reserved and more stoic. Alex also wears confections of lace and silk and underwear, which Jacob likes quite a lot. That aspect of the sex scenes is pretty good. The sex itself is spicy, but brief. There's not a lot of pages here, but the story does balance its more erotic storylines well with the romance and family storylines. Alex's younger brothers were a delight on the page, and it was heartwarming to see Jacob gently become part of the household. There is some silly "I can't tell him how I truly feel or it will ruin what we have" type nonsense, but it's not annoying. Also, the resolution is realistic to the time period while allowing for a true HEA.
I wasn't blown away by this book, but I was satisfied with it. I don't have much to say, but that's not a bad thing at all. This book, the second in a series, did get me interested in what came before and what will come next. Since they are all roughly the same length, completely the series should be quick work! The main characters from the first book make appearances in this one, but it's not necessary to have read it.

This book has a lot of unexpected depth and storyline. It's much more than just club activities. Jasper Black is an owner of The Perdition Club. He had a rather cold, impersonal childhood and, although he seems happy, something is missing from his life. One evening, he runs into a club visitor, Alexander White. The two men do not act on their attraction immediately, but eventually they hook up. They laugh at their last names - Black and White - and decide to enter into an impartial, non-committed relationship as spelled out in black and white. Despite wanting to keep things in the bedroom, Jasper learns that Alex has a complicated family life. What happens when these two men begin to develop feelings for each other? This is a feel-book romance full of passion, kinky undergarments, family, and committed love.
This story had me from Alex and Jasper’s first meeting– I loved both characters, from first impressions (however inauspicious) onward. It’s nice watching them go from their initial meeting to something like friends with benefits to something more, and as an added bonus the supporting characters in the story really pull their weight: I challenge anyone not to be charmed by Alex’s brothers. The story reads fairly quickly but feels fully developed: the characters are well rounded and deeply likable, the plot weaves together some familiar tropes and some excellent period-appropriate atmosphere into a cohesive and enjoyable narrative. Well worth a read.
*I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, and I loved it! The characters are so right for one another, and the story made me feel so warm inside. Alex White has the weight of the world on his shoulders and meets Jasper Black who makes him feel. Set during the Napoleonic war this is a story of striking a bargain and reaping so much more. I loved the characters and how two lonely men found each other and made each other whole together. A wonderful love story and I highly recommend you travel back in time and experience the love blossoming.
Jasper Black, part owner of The Perdition Club finds a drunk, cute redhead staggering around and clueless around the halls of the club. The drunk - Alex White - wakes up naked in Jasper's bed and is surprised to find the grumpy Goliath looking after him. What starts is a black and white no strings attached arrangement, until things get complicated; Alex has a health issue, home responsibilities and a brother at war. This is absolutely wonderful. I live Alex's entire nutty family, his clothing and his spirit. It's sexy, funny romantic and sweet. Adorable.
Had to drop a review to say it's my absolute favourite of this series, couldn't get it out of my brain for weeks afterwards. For a light and steamy romance, the plot did exist and those little moments between even non-main characters were superb (not to mention how cute the actual couple are).
This was my favorite of the series! We started right out with Jasper rescuing Alex. I adored how confused and funny Alex was when he woke up in Jasper's care! He called him Goliath! He also decided they were fated to meet because their names were White and Black! The story was a bit sappy and sweet which surprised me in a good way! Wonderful sense of family with Alex and his siblings! So sensual, sweet, steamy and descriptive! It was just the right length for character development in an easy quicker read!
I've never read a book by this Author. I really enjoyed this book. Jasper Black is fiercely proud of Perdition, the gaming hell he co-owns. An opposites-attract, found family, MM Regency romance filled with love, laughter, lace, and Gooseberry Jam that will plunge you into the passion and hedonism that is the Perdition Club, and headlong into the glorious chaos that is a Black and White family! I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
O, I just love how people in love can sometimes drive themselves crazy expecting the worts because off their past experience.
My husband and his best friend made a pact in high school that they would never marry. They were like brothers, even looking alike, and his friend's parents were actually considering legally adopting my husband.
As years drifted by, neither of them had met or even dated someone and kept too their shared hobbies whenever they managed too be able too visit.
Then, on the 1st of September 1999 (Spring Day in S.A) I started working at the same Department where my now husband had been for some years. Only one thing was different, I'm a Double Gemini and eccentric, thus he immediately noticed me.
It took him TWO years and the threat of death from our mutual friends to ask me on a date.
After we dated for only a week, we both knew it was forever for us. But O Dear, what about their pact.
Dewald kept our relationship a secret for an entire year, before he worked upnthe courage too (under false pretence) introducing me to his friend and his Second Mother.
Today, we are an unorthodox family, two brothers, their wives and a mother who loves us all. Our friend's nieces and nephew are as much ours as they possibly can be.
So, getting that first block out off the way, can be tricky, but it can be done.
Worst book I've ever read. Incredibly shallow and stiff, features wooden dolls characters acting in achetypal ways, a bunch of rehashed quips (the author aparently seems to find nevereding joy in the concept of the characters names being Black and White, as well as mentionning gooseberry jam), and an alarming lack of development. I don't think anyone proofread this one considering the amount of errors. Its so flawed from every angle, but the worst part is the indigest writing. Here's an example that's just so comically bad it reads like a joke : "White smiled. "Not as bad as it sounds. Mine and Thomas' mother died ten years ago, and quickly after that my father remarried. He had Eddie, but his wife died again, so he remarried and had the twins. His wife died yet again, so he remarried...(cont)""
There's virtually no care put in the writing of the characters emotions and background, nor for the Regency backdrop which might as well be completely inexistant. No details on the Perdition Club either, even with such an intriguing synopsis. It's all just very disapointing.
So I am sitting on a early morning bus on my way to work and I am giggling and crying as I finish this book. Oh this was sublime!!! Utterly beautiful writing, excellent characters in Alex and Jasper, sexy, funny and filled with such emotion. Loved the children, Mr. and Mrs Stanton and the sundry characters from Perdition. This is the second book in this series and is easily read as a standalone. Jasper is one of the co-owners of the club - standoffish, imposing and wary of entanglements. Alex literally falls into Jasper's lap after a night of gambling and drinking and trying to avoid the men he beat at various card games. Of course, they land in bed and find themselves unbelievably compatible aided by a bit of fancy underwear. Both are attracted to each other and develop a no strings, no commitments sort of relationship. Well all of fellow romance readers know how that goes. Well the path to love is filled with rambunctious children, a bit of grief and illness and lots of gooseberry jam. Ms. Moone's writing shines in this short book. Another story well told!!
