本座真的没有弃养灵宠 [This Venerable One Really Didn’t Abandon My Familiar]

Rate this book

This Venerable One Really Didn’t Abandon My Familiar
Length: 70 chapters + 9 extras (completed)
3rd person POV

DNF ch 48/ 70

I honestly don't have the motivation to carry on which is a shame. I'm going to try and keep this review as spoiler free and brief as possible.

Feng Ci (MC) is a god- like character who has been venturing through worlds preventing chaos for the last 3000 years. He then returns to his original world in a different body only to find out that the little pet snake he cared for has now cultivated a human form, is the leader of a powerful sect and is going by the name of Pei QianYue (ML).

To make matters worse, there is a mysterious powerful being who has publicised a list of sects they are going to kill and is eliminating them one by one in order.

The beginning started off really strong and I really liked the murder mystery aspect. Then in the middle the 'romance' then took over and that is when my interest disappeared.

I just didn't buy the romance between the main characters at all and they had no chemistry. Feng Ci just didn't seem interested in Pei QianYue, in fact he seemed more interested in having regular nap time. And he does like to nap a lot lol.

Would I recommend this to others? Probably not. You're not missing much by not reading this tbh.

3.5 stars. Read a few untranslated danmei recently, still waiting for the Goodreads librarians to add them. In the meantime, I am reviewing this short novel that is translated at Chrysanthemum Garden.

I find this kind of similar to The Sword Named No Way Out. There is a Heavenly Will causing chaos and disorder, although the two leads here are less angsty than in that novel (it's Huai Shang after all). The protagonist travelled worlds for 3000 years and returns to his 'original' world, only to realize that his pet black snake that had no power seems to somehow have been able to cultivate into the current leader of the wuxia alliance (and he's also blind), his body is missing, and someone is killing people en masse. The mystery is intriguing in the beginning, but easy to figure out if you pay attention.

Like others have commented on Novelupdates, this was a rather lighthearted and short read, with cute interactions between the two leads, though not very complex or nuanced. Overall, I enjoyed this lighthearted romance with a bit of mystery.

3.5 stars, almost 4.
I really liked the characters and the story, but halfway through I slowly lost interest. I think it is because I *assumed* we were waiting for something to happen and kept waiting for it. Obviously, it makes sense it didn't happen, but I self-sabotaged myself. I did like the ending though! The original, not revised-- I have thoughts on that haha.
Not too ansty, most is pretty sweet and the MC is OP which I do like reading on occasion, so the moments he was able to unleash his actual power were awesome.

I'm glad I read it!

Quite a satisfying read. And the tester is somewhat different from typical novels, so it was even more satisfying.

For me, this story was quite down to earth in way of emotions, relationships and characters. And, strange to say, I’ve enjoyed it. Main characters and they conflicts and relationships were not plastic, but complicated and layered.

I like the main couple. I can clearly feel they pain and happiness, the same as how they develop and grow though the story. There is no dog blood, and I can’t say it’s a fluff, but there is good enough amount of nice and sad. They relationship are quite down to earth, not overly fantastic with flowers in the air. I feel like this is a one more kind of love, but more realistic and cozy. Not even sure how to explain it normally.

There is a comedy undertone here. I’ve really enjoyed those funny moment and jokes to my fullest.

Recommend to not leave out the extras, as they are making the story ending a bit more complete and sweet. Also, there are two versions of the main text ending, I’ve decided to choose an original one. Not sure why people are unhappy with it. It’s not a BE. But yes, like the whole novel, it’s not a pink colored one. Still, like it.

About plot. It’s not bad. I, personally, guessed most of the things early on but that didn’t change my evaluation of the story. It was still very nice read.

Recommend you to give it a go. It’s not long, but the plot, characters and comedy are all here to make you feel good. And it’s vibe is really quite unique. So, I recommend.

English title: This Venerable One Really Didn't Abandon My Familiar

I picked this story up on a whim and didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. It's got a satisfying story with bits of humor thrown in here and there, good romance between a MC and ML who are well matched, and excellent pacing.

The MC is Feng Qi, a powerful cultivator who inherited Heaven's power and subdued the demon clans. After all the fighting and war, he wanted to take a break from this world, so he "ascended" and spent 3000 years roaming around other worlds, until the Heavenly Principles sent him a dream message that he needed to return to his original world to prevent a new disaster.

Upon coming back, he realizes the current leader of the cultivation world is none other than Pei Qianyue, aka the pet snake he used to raise. After Feng Qi left this world, the snake gained human form and had been cultivating for the past 3000 years to try and find his master again.

I really enjoyed watching the relationship develop between the two of them. First PQY doesn't know who Feng Qi is, though he has his suspicions, and uses a series of tests to slowly suss out his true identity. After the truth comes out, PQY is great at slowly winning over his master through small affectionate actions here and there and also acting pitiful to soften FQ's heart, who can never stay angry at PQY for very long. We quickly learn that FQ says a lot of things but he doesn't really mean them when it comes to his little pet snake, like when he actually wants to do more intimate things with PQY but can't bring himself to say it out loud XP

It was hilarious watching the ML, one of the strongest cultivators in the world who's known for being a dispassionate and aloof Immortal Alliance leader, pretend to be weak in front of his master to get benefits from him. A great example of this is when PQY made a big fuss about losing 1000 years of cultivation so that he could cue his assistant to suggest dual cultivation with Feng Qi as a means to quickly make up for it :D

The story itself is engaging as well. There's a murderer going around killing off random cultivation sects, and somehow Feng Qi's original body is involved in all this. As PQY and FQ investigate together to get to the bottom of this, it's becomes clearer to FQ that PQY is still hiding something from him. I won't go into all the details, but I thought the story was interesting enough while still being straightforward and easy to follow. I wasn't expecting the "bad guy" to be who it was, but that in itself was an interesting twist that I haven't read before.

When the truth about the past and how PQY lost his eyes finally was revealed, it was a painful moment. I don't blame FQ for spoiling his Xiao Hei so much after reading that; PCY deserves it all!

I really enjoyed the extra chapters at the end of their lives in a different world. Even though they have no memories and prior attachments to each other, they still got together and enjoyed a couple of happy, blissful years. I only wish we had more extra chapters in this world; it ended too soon for me!

"I can see, you're so beautiful" AHHHHHHHH
This was like so feel good, yes there was sadness and evil people but it was such a chill read. The plot was rather simple, but it wasn't really a bad thing in this case. It felt like a very relaxing read. I loved it

I loved the entire book. It was about 900 pages on the whole and I enjoyed each and every part of the book. It was a bit more angsty than I expected and I enjoyed this ride to the max.

The book starts 3000 years ago when Feng Ci, the grandmaster of cultivation had retired and lived in the mountains telling tales to little children about the Saint Sovereign aka him, one day he decides to leave, this world where he fought horrific battles. He has no one to wait for him so it must be easy right? mmm...

3000 years later well, his little pet snake that must have died many years ago cultivated into his human form and he was the leader of the Immortal Alliance, a cold figure for Feng Ci has a soft soft spot for after all, it's his family's Xaoi Hei

My favourite dialogues/Moments without major spoilers

“Actually yes.” Pei QianYue grabbed Feng Ci’s hand with all his strength
and revealed a slightly weak, but extremely beautiful smile: “Yesterday, I
said something wrong.”
“You are my God, have always been.”

“Because to me right now, there is something more important than freedom
in this world.

“Because you’re my fate.”
“I will never leave you. There’s nothing to worry about..”

“I can see.” Pei QianYue started smiling, his eyes shining faintly with light:
“You’re so beautiful.”

“There is.” Pei QianYue said quietly: “I’m sorry.”
Sorry for acting on my own.
Sorry for letting you worry.
“……But I don’t regret it.” Pei QianYue’s voice was very soft as if he
needed to consume a huge amount of strength to say each sentence: “I’ll
never regret dying for you.”

This book seems short by face value but has less filler and the plot develops quickly. It feels longer in the best way as the plot was interesting even though I could figure it out. This is my favourite book of the year. I loved it thoroughly, do give it a try

More like 3.6

Smooth read, had a lot more potential, pretty similar but decently written compared to others of the same genre
