ONE-BY-ONE THE SPIRIT-FILLED APARTMENTS AT BROUSSARD COURT CALL THOSE IN NEED OF SHELTERING COMFORT.
Madame Badeaux, the old woman they called The Witch was dead, but was she gone? Someone, or something, lingered on, guiding and protecting those who came to live at Broussard Court. An old man escaping his family’s plan for a retirement home. A young woman fleeing her family’s disapproval. A teen boy with no place to go. Solace and safety await them at Broussard Court, where secrets are revealed and lives mended. And when the circle finally closes, it brings home the person snatched away when she was small. Was her life a tragedy? Or did it serve a greater good?
Early Praise for True Memories
In Nancy Smith Gibson's long-awaited sequel to The New Witch, the spirit of Madame Badeaux lives on at Broussard Court as new tenants come to the Big Easy in search of change. While True Memories -- a warm family story -- stands on its own, those who enjoyed reading about Madame's heirs (Addie and Simon) in Gibson's 2017 book will not be disappointed. In New Orleans, every person has a story and Gibson's characters hold the reader's attention from start to finish.—Diane Dove—social worker and avid reader.
A heartwarming and enchanting tale of the new characters unexpectedly drawn to a quiet street in New Orleans. Broussard Court and its neighborhood is a place where friends, family, spirits and magic abound. In this latest novel, Nancy Smith Gibson has crafted a spellbinding sequel to The New Witch.—Ellen Carpenter, author of The Problem with LUST.
As Abner stood looking into the empty shop, he felt the tingling spread throughout his body. This was the third time he had come to stare into the big front windows, and the energy became stronger each time. It was as if electricity was running up and down his spine. Today it ran through his arms and reached his fingers where they grasped the door facing. The spirits were here, no doubt about it. He sensed them telling him there was something special about this place—something he should pay attention to.
Read in one day, and want more. This book is very different from the first book in the series. Still an anthology of sort, telling the unique stories of people that find their way to a magical neighborhood in New Orleans where they find what Fate has planned for them. This book does not rely on hoodoo and occult as a plot device, as the first book did. Very well done, a great read.
The cynic in me, says that Hallmark will be making these books into a "HALLMARK" miniseries any day, complete with the happily-ever-after endings tied in a neat red ribbon. I much be getting soft in my old age, I think that we all need more happily ever afters and pretty bows.
Great story; very different from the first book in the series, although some characters appear in this one. It was difficult to put down. My only criticism—and this was true in the first book as well—is that new characters are introduced so abruptly. I was on Chapter 10 when suddenly a while new person came in with no transition or introduction. Many books I read indicate such an abrupt shift in the story by adding a name at the chapter beginning or something to indicate a shift. It sometimes leaves me thinking, “Did i miss something?” Other than that, excellent read.
I read the New Witch and then saw this book came out. Both were a totally different read as the way the author writes is very unique! I love the characters , the family that is grown from the characters in the New Witch and now this story with new addiction Al characters whom I loved! You wonder as you read the beginning of each book how everyone / everything connects and it is like you want to jump in and be a part of it all! I read both in 2 days !
The author has created interesting characters that you care about. The main characters from The New Witch play more minor roles in this book. Would like to read more about all the characters in future books.
call it fate. Call it magic however this story is just incredible. As I read this book and I did not want it to end, I thought about the meaning of family and how the universe has a fine hand in bringing people together and you choose to make this group your family. This is what this book meant to me. I rarely read a book twice because I save her that first time, that initial falling in love with words and a story and characters. But this book deserves to be reread many times.
Such a great cozy mystery! Found family and New Orleans
This second book is as great as the first one, The New Witch. Great stories of people finding family and New lives and inner strength. Great flowing mystery and twists. Read it in one day. Couldn't put it down! Warm cozy and wonderful characters. Love this story and the great ending. Definitely recommend! Found a new favorite author.
The Arthur does another great job of bringing people together . Happy coincidence or indeed the spirits working overtime. I shall not give away the plots or the characters. See for yourself the positive feelings of love and warmth you receive from reading this endearing sequel.
The story was so good. All the people had different lives and problems. The spirit world saw to it that all was fixed as it should have been. It is so nice to read a story like this. It makes you believe in God and spirits. All the good things. Thank you for a great story.
This was every bit as good as the first book. New Orleans is one of the few cities I really like, in spite of the darkness that can sometimes be found there. I love that this writer produces fascinating stories, in a beautiful setting. I hope there are more to come.
While the editing and proofreading leaves something to be desired, the story and flow are lovely. Hoodoo and trust and fate all merge to show the way. Read on!
I thought it would be a let down from the first book and boy was I wrong. I just finished True Memories and the happy tears are flowing and I'm so glad I found this,,, I hope the third installment is quicker coming,,,, I really like this lady's storytelling
Such good writing as the story takes us along with more tales from Nancy Gibsons skillful hand set in my favorite New Orleans neighborhood. Don’t miss the mysteries and excitement!!
I stayed up until 3AM to finish this book. Please continue the story of these wonderful characters and this fantastic city. There is just enough magic to make this book and the prequel well worth reading.
I love the setting and the characters. I only wish it could have been longer. I would also have liked to know more about the current lives of the characters from Book 1. I hope there will be another book!
Another 5! I very rarely give 5 stars to a book, but I must say the 2 I have read by Nancy Smith Gibson deserve the accolades. I sincerely hope there are more of this series to come!
These stories all wove together with magic and soul. There was less use of Southern slang which was nice as it isn’t always heard when visiting there. The bright descriptions of New Orleans makes we want to go back even more.
Enjoyed reading this sequel. This has the potential to be a series of wonderful stories. Good character development and background. Would love to read more.
I loved this magical story of people brought together. Is it Magic or Fate? Spirits lead us where we need to go if we are willing to except there guidance.
