He’d been contracted to find Neeka, the missing daughter of one of the wealthiest men in the country.
It was supposed to be a search and rescue mission, but what Gage didn’t expect to find was an entire underground operation with chemically and genetically modified soldiers.
When Gage rescued Neeka, the attraction she felt was instant. But he’s dangerous and had no problem killing right in front of her.
As they fought to survive, and escaped the twisted prison she’d been trapped in, Neeka realized her kidnapper had other plans for her.
Can she escape the clutches of a madman wanting to use her as a reproduction vessel for his twisted plans?
Can she keep her emotions for Gage locked down during all the chaos?
Did she even want to fight?
This was previously published under the The Assassin, and Gage. It has been revised and re-edited, but the story itself is the same.
Plot: Gage has been hired by Neeka's father to find her after she was kidnapped from work one evening. Gage finds her, and there is an instant connection between the two of them. But Gage doesn't think that he's good enough for Neeka and he's worried that his job would be too dangerous anyways. What can she do to convince him otherwise? Also, there's a crazy doctor running around doing genetic experiments.
Commentary: This was a pretty standard Jenika Snow story - instant love, not too many obstacles. But I felt that there were too many loose threads - the doctor is out there somewhere, Adaym is loose (and shows up at the end of the story with no indication as to whether or not he will have a story of his own), is there another case for Gage and his firm? There was just a lot left unanswered.
3 stars This was very tropey, it had a lot of the classic tropes everyone loves with the most archetypal characters and cliché moments but it worked and i liked it!
It's hitman/savior romance, where the fmc gets kidnapped by a mad scientist, if you may call him that, while her father is in his death bed, he hired a hitman to find her and bring her back. One bad trope, insta love, smutty and all that!! There was a little suspense, there was a chase, yada yada yada!!!
The fmc was also your stereotypical damsel in distress, but it was fine, she did fight back at times, she was kidnapped, we get it!!
The crazy murderous possessive promised husband ending was okay too, there was some goodbye angst, overall the romance was balanced but the plot????
the plot was a little too over the top for a contemporary romance with the whole uncategorized blood type that the fmc is supposed to have, the fact that Rye the mad scientist kidnapped her to create super soldiers was an even funnier moment imo but okay.
