An upbeat and entirely positive guide to building a culture of reading within a school community. The author encourages each of us to see ourselves as literacy leaders and leverage our talents, positions, and relationships to advance literacy in our communities. I read this text with a group, and I was grateful for the opportunities it invited for us to put those ideas into practice.

I’m not convinced there was enough content to drive the writing of an entire book; some of the metaphors felt pretty strained, and there was quite a lot of overlap from chapter to chapter. However, if you’re looking for a book that will energize you or your staff to spread reading joy, this is the book.

This book was very eye-opening, truly highlighting the importance of building a community of readers. It illustrates why simply teaching a student how to read without teaching them to enjoy reading is truly teaching them nothing at all. It certainly made me rethink so many practices in my classroom and how I could make them better!
