When Kora Williams wakes up inside the dark alien warship called Silence, fate has spun completely out of her control.

She doesn't understand why she was abducted by a vicious, depraved Kordolian, and she can't believe she was rescued by an even more dangerous one. A big, armor-clad brute of a warrior, who lifted her into his arms far too easily, as if she weighed next to nothing.

She should be dead, or at the very least, doomed to a terrible life as a slave.

But she's been saved, and now she's on a ship full of dangerous silver-skinned aliens and their surprisingly human mates. She wants nothing to do with this strange new reality. She doesn't want to dwell on her horrific ordeal. All she wants to do is return to a normal life on Earth; to her cozy little house, her job, her son...

But these Kordolians have other ideas. To her dismay, it turns out there's a reason she was taken.

And the big, lethal warrior who rescued her?

He's been assigned to protect her.

So much missing

I wanted to love this. We finally have a FMC who is older and not model thin. She has a teenaged son. But the book was missing so much. The book was paced so slowly and because of her trauma a lot of what the MMC did made sense, but the book itself didn't need to drag. She told him it was important to her to spend time together which is a mature relationship thing, and then we didn't get to see them spend any time together. We just were told they had coffee and then he left on another mission. What did they talk about? We didn't get to see the time they spent together.

There was also the big subplot of the bad PR making humans act up, and that was not really addressed. We also didn't get to see the contents of the MMC life history data cube that was teased all through the story.

Most of these books have a FMC who contributes something or has a purpose once they are mated. They become a mom, or do logistics stuff, psychic training, etc. This FMC was a highly skilled trauma nurse who they repeatedly say is too old to have babies. Her purpose wasn't really found. Her kid is fifteen so he doesn't need a full time mom, so what will she do with her days? It's one of the other big ways this book was missing something.

With the author, each release is more often a surprise than not, but this book was scheduled, a rarity in itself, for next week, I had it marked on my to-read calendar.
Then while checking my mailbox, I saw an email notifying me of an ebook delivery, but it is only much later after work upon receiving the author’s newsletter that I realized which book it was.
No need to say I immediately jumped into the fray and happily ensconced me in my reading, not easy when one is working and with a cold clouding my brain.
Still, even with a foggy mind and running from one place to another, this book is another hit.

I would just recommend for the full experience to read at least the first books in the Dark Planet Warriors series before digging into this one.

Kora is one of the women rescued in the previous book, abused, broken but with a will of steel to live. But she is not the average usual prey of the Old Empire, older, already married.
Jeral is the sniper of the First Division, like the other members of the team, he is the top of the top of this elite of ex-soldiers who now have taken The Earth planet and it’s inhabitants under their wings, even if the humans fight it. He is also the one who saved Kora from the hands of her abuser.
A special bond has now been weaved between them, why despite everything they went through and must face in the future, they are drawn to one another, Jeral not seing a victim but a resilient strong woman, and Kora’s sensing behind the black armor, there is not a full monster but a considerate scary being who makes her feel safe.

An other great addition to this series, now up to Arkan’s tale and who is this escaped warrior.

I started this when it came out and tried to finish it over the last few months. It was tedious

It feels like the last few books were filler tbh. Bad filler episodes about people that we didn’t get to care about because they are so dull and repetitive.

I’m only continuing or have continued for the last 3/4 books because I was a fan of this series when Anna started it years ago beginning with Tarak. Now it’s become so bad and devoid of any substance. No chemistry, no heart, no plot either.

Kinda sad that I’m almost to the end of this series I so love! This one was heavier on the overall action plot and less so on the romance. Still really good, but it didn’t grab me as much as some of the others. I did really like seeing how a 15 year old teenage boy reacted to the First Division warriors. I think I will be going through withdrawals if these silver guys once the series is finished. Deep breaths.

In the world of the Dark Star stories I liked this one the least. It was a little boring. There was so much that could have been developed like the anti alien faction that was spreading misinformation and causing riots.
Much of the story was inner dialogue in the heads of the main characters. The FMC was a trauma nurse but she didn't get to do anything but do triage for a woman who was hit by a bus. She never finds her purpose in the Kordolian world in this book.
A lot of time was spent looking for her stupid son and fretting over not being a good enough mom. The FMC said that she wanted to spend time with the MMC getting to know him but we don't get to see her doing that. There is only one scene where they get to make love. By the end of the story there is much she doesn't know about the Kordolians and their self healing abilities or the politics of their world. Nor does the MMC access his data cube that we know of.

Another amazing story !!!

This was a truly incredible story of the on going saga of the Kordolians !!! In this book Jeral gets his story......
Jeral is one of the infamous 1st division warriors turned mercenaries under the command of former General Tarak of the Kordolian forces. Unbeknownst to most Earthlings, the Dark Star mercenaries are the ONLY things keeping the bad, noble men Kordolians away.

Kora is a trama nurse , and after a brutal kidnapping and horrible abuse by a kordolian nobleman Rexu, she finds herself on the Warship Silence , in a very earth looking room complete with fresh baked goods. She has been healed and now she is feeling a little weird...... Just the other day , she was writhing in pain , and now she is not . Exactly what have these aliens Done to her ??!!??
Kora is desperate to get home to her son, and so the warrior that saved her , Jeral, is going to accompany her back . How they are going to find her son, she has no idea, but as long as she gets him back, she doesn't really care.
As Jeral and Kora find themselves thrust into the war between our Darkstar warriors and the Kordolian noble men who only want to enslave all of earth, they nurture a tiny spark of attraction and desire that is the beginning of Jeral's mating fever. And its a slow , deep burn that neither one of them is quite prepared for !!!
I love how each chapter brings us closer to who the real enemies are , and how Tarak, Jeral, and the rest of the 1st division are biding their time , taking care of their precious women and even their planet , Earth. Love these Kordolians , and I re read these books quite a bit. Lots of incredible action and an ongoing , thrilling story that will catch you up in its magnificence !!! Already excited for the next story , Jeral's twin brother Arkan !!!!

Absolutely the best !

If you have ever read the Dark Planet and Darkstar Mercenaries series then you will understand my gushing and exuberance when I describe the joy I felt reading the first page. I am deeply involved with all things Kordolian. Poor Anna, she can't write fast enough for her to meet the demands of her undying fans. But, despite our impatience, we love and appreciate her and her talented tales. Steely severe warriors, who might not want to be compared to humans but are drawn to them all the same. This story, and her many others, brims with romance, adventure (and some kick ass fighting) brings you along for the ride. So I recommend this book to anyone who loves the same. Don't deprive yourself, read both series. Thank you Anna. Read it it one damn day and now I want more.

My least favorite of this series

So much that is found in Anna Carven's " Dark Mercenaries " is missing in this book. I haven't, until this book, felt the need to skip pages in any previous offering in this series. But this book dragged along in such a manner I became bored and jumped ahead and skipped a couple of chapters. A first for me because the whole " Dark Planet Warriors " and spin-off series are keepers. These books are the ones one re-visits and re-reads over and over.
So what happened here ? Was the writer rushed to get something in print ?
The book will go into my library along with the rest but I sincerely hope Ms. Carven next book is a story we have come to expect from her. This one fell completely short .

I finally finished this one. As much as I love this world, I wasn't feeling this book or this couple. (It read like the author wasn't feeling it, either.) There was a lot missing that made the other books so enjoyable. Neither main character seemed to have a necessary role in their world (and I'm not even going to get into the pointless and irritating teenage son). I wanted to love the older heroine because I'm a sucker for the over-40 mature romance theme. It was a nice idea. Unfortunately, the execution missed the mark by a wide margin compared to the other books.

Meh. 2.5 stars. Tons of exposition and not a lot happened. I skimmed a lot of it. I still like these characters, but the main overarching plot of the series seems to be taking FOREVER to progress and each individual book plot is getting weaker and weaker.

I'm a little conflicted with this book. I really enjoyed everything....that didn't have to do with the new couple. Their relationship absolutely bored me, to the point that after a while I started skimming paragraphs just to get thru the repetitive mush that was Kora's thoughts about how she felt safe with Jeral and how he had a godlike body and blah blah blah. Over and over. Then there was how Kora already had a kid. Now, I dislike children in my books in general. But this was worse because he was an arrogant, spoiled, undisciplined little shit of a teenager. And I was so glad that Jeral treated him like one because obviously Kora had absolutely no control over him.

Like I said, the good parts of this book had nothing to do with them being together or coming together. The nobles have found a new Zor toy and they are using it to decimate the Earth's balance, plunging the planet into practically an ice age within hours. Then they intend to use it as an actual weapon. Of course, that'll never happen on Tarak's watch so he comes up with a plan that would be dangerous to impossible for anyone other than him and his First Division.

Then there was the relationship between Jeral and Kora. Considering what she had suffered thru (which was worse than any of the others), she sure formed a connection and trust with Jeral super fast. When Jeral is ordered to help her find her wayward son, these two get closer within the matter of those few hours. Admittedly, it was a decent change to have the mating fever hit Jeral a little slower than the others though. But hit him it does and right before he's needed for the most important shot to save the planet. Good thing Kora is already head over heals for the guy and wastes no time showing him she wants him. Can you tell I'm rolling my eyes here?

Earth saved, Jeral has one more mission with his brother, Arkan, before he can spend time with his new mate. It's an easy one though, bloody, but easy. As for Arkan, he's found what he was looking for and then some. I'm so looking forward to his book because in this one he seemed like he was one of the most fun of the bunch.

One of the best sci-fi action romance series ever🔥💖🔥💖

The only thing I hate about Ana Carven Kordolian romances is that they come to an end😍😍😍😍😘😘😘😘 this series is one of my all time favorite The world building is fantastic and the make and female !safe never disappoint the makes are as alpha as they come and only melt for the ones that capture their hearts. And the females leads are always strong, feisty and intelligent . Together they make a formidable team. This boom was fantastic Jeral is one of the last of the first division to find a human mate. He doesn't see it coming but when he rescues Kora and brings her back to the Silence to heal he being to defend into the mating fever. His mental and physical strength is enormous. He is amazed by her strength and ability to adapt when she needs to. As he falls in love with her he wants to protect her and eliminate anything that could cause her pain or harm. Kora is in her late 40's married once and has a teenAge son. She is a trauma nurse and is used to dealing with pain and suffering. But nothing prepared her for her abduction by and evil Kordolian. She's left for dead but is rescued by Jeral. So.show she knows instinctively that he would never hurt her. As they navigate her trauma, rescue her son from stupidity and save the earth. They both begin to establish feeling for one another that turns into a passion neither has ever known. The love and trust that grows between them is what gives both of them incredible strength. It's heals wounds on both sides and provides strength and a sense of pure belonging. Loved every second and wished the story did not come to an end. I hope there are more Kordolians that need mates because I'm not ready rotisserie to ever end💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥💖💖🔥🔥

**MINOR SPOILERS**
This book is part of a plethora of books, novellas, and at least two spin off series related to Dark Planet Warriors. I do not recommend it as a standalone. It is the sixth book of the second series, DarkStar Mercenaries, though there is a novella, Interlude, that fits between the two series that is considered a prequel to the second series.
Kora had been abducted by the evil Kordolians. The plan had been for her to be impregnated in order for them to have children. On their planet, females are few and far between and the women of earth are compatible.
Jeral, a Korodolian alien, but one of the good guys, was part of the rescue. He has two different colored eyes. One is normal and one gives him special sight. He is very competent with guns and spoiler…there is a Star Wars moment in the book related to that.
Both Kora and Jeral bond with each other. It was very touching how Jeral was able to help Kora through her adjustment to freedom and working through her pain and anger. He was terrific and I enjoyed this story a lot.
The pace of the book is fast. The point of view alternates between Kora and Jeral.
I liked the introduction of Jeral’s brother, Arkan, and I look forward to his book.
Tarak, the leader of the Kordolians and hero of 3 of the books in the prior series as well as a couple short stories/novellas, appears in this book. He continues to be awesome.
I think it would be nice for the author to include a reference list in the books. Included could be the names of the different male and female main characters, planets mentioned, aliens mentioned, and maybe a few word translations (siv, etc) that the Kordolians use.
I plan to read the next book.

One of the last of the unmated First Division warriors is about to fall and I am here for it. I mean, I've been here for all of them (MAN, do those warriors fall hard and fast!) and Jerel needs to find his happy place.

As it turns out, his happy place is with a rescued human woman who handles everything thrown at her surprisingly well. She was abducted and abused, rescued by the very imposing First Division, and then had to figure out how to keep her teenage son safe form his own stupidity. She's quick thinking and she doesn't crumble under pressure. Which works nicely because not only has she been through a lot, the First Division isn't known for shying away from dangerous missions and if she's going to be in a relationship with Jerel...well, you can see where that's going.

While Kora is showing us what human women are made of, Jerel is succumbing to the call of the mating fever. Which sounds ominous, but his biggest drive is to protect Kora and keep her and those she cares for safe. Given that Kora's son is involved in something dangerous to him and the aliens (you now, if they weren't the most terrifying warriors in all the worlds), keeping everyone safe means big changes for the humans.

More answers, a very dastardly plan by desperate aliens, a daring mission, a coolly competent woman, and the warrior who makes her feel ALL THE THINGS. *thumbs up*

5-UNDYING STARS
Kora was more my speed. I loved that it was time for an older woman with a child to become a part of the Kordolian-verse. I loved that she brought something more to the group of big bad scaries. She also had a way of seeing things that was not with the other women. Her strength was seen for the fight she was willing to undergo for her child. She was a nurturer and a healer. Kora was more accepting of what was happening to her and open to listening. She was no pushover but she displayed a bit of knowing. She did understand that she was not understanding why she would be taken and abused. That was a hard pill for her to swallow. Jeral was one of the last two of the 1st division Kordolian warriors without a mate. There was something about the one he rescued from the slavers ship. He was not able to see it right away but of course the big bad knew what was happening to him.

Along with another big armor clad silver skinned Kordolian getting a mate. They also must save the world from a deep freeze. The bad of the bad were looking to freeze the Earth just to harense a weapon for a fight they have little chance of winning. There is to be a fight, but who will emerge on the winning side. This was one time that earth should be grateful for the biggest of the bad being on their side. But of course that is not how it works. What humans don't understand they seem to want to destroy or enslave themselves.

I've been binging Anna Carvin's books over the last few weeks and have enjoyed all of them to vary8ng degrees. This book, though, just wasn't doing it for me. I don't know what changed...a deadline, maybe? Life? Who knows, but the book suffered.

1. The overall read when looked at as a whole felt like a very narrow view of the story. It felt like seeing the outline thru a wall of gel. Some of the framework was there, but so much was lacking.

2. Parts of it seemed to drag, while other parts raced right over what might have been really interesting plot points.

3. The traumatic abuse that the mfc suffered was treated as something she could get past within days. Not only did I find this unbelievable, but I found it insulting to actual survivors of S.A.

4. The romance just didn't exist. It felt like basic steps that were never fleshed out. The sex scenes felt the same.

5. There seemed to be inconsistencies. At one point she referred to her is as 16 yrs old, but I could've sworn she said 15 earlier in the book. Then she talked about how he would be away from home for days, but then I thought she had said she was paying for his boarding school? I couldn't swear by any of that though and couldn't be bothered to look back and check.

I dunno...I just read it to get thru it. But my disappointment in this particular book isn't enough to prevent me from reading the next in the series.

This author is a binge worthy writer. First the Dark Planet Warriors and now this spin off series of Dark Planet Mercenaries. I have to admit the previous books had more fast paced action, smoking hot romance and well developed and well rounded characters, than this book. I am starting to realize that while I have enjoyed reading all the books and learning about all the First Division and their different abilities that compliment eachother, I become more engaged when the original Warrior, Tarak is on the page. It is his mission to break the cruelty, corruption and superior attitudes of the Noble Houses towards other species and worlds that is so compelling. He could have easily taken himself and his dedicated warriors out of the equation and disappeared, but he knew it wouldn't end. And while he and his men may not have to carry out the Empires nefarious ideals, others would and suffer.
I am a bit worried that after a couple of weeks of living within this world that the next book won't necessarily be the end, and I will have to wait for another book to be written for it to be completed.
I prefer to binge a large series such as this to stay connected to the characters and the story arc until the end. I can feel we are close and will miss it when it does.
I am reading this via Kindle Unlimited, and as always consider it well worth your time and $$.

3 stars.

The heroine was kidnapped by a bad Kordolian and then rescued by our hero. Out of all the rescued heroines, she had it the worst, being sexually as well as physically abused by the time she's rescued. She is also the oldest heroine we've had, as a widow with a 15 yo son. I know that they fixed her up physically, but I thought her mental scars would take a lot longer to overcome. I guess we are expected to understand that because she had more life experience and is a trauma nurse, she's got better coping mechanisms? I'm not really convinced.

Our hero is a twin! He is also the sharpshooter of their unit. The idea of an enemy ship sucking all the energy from our Sun and putting Earth into another Ice Age is very interesting. I'm glad he was able to shoot that ship into the Sun. :)

Love the Kordolians!

I love Anna Carven's books and buy them as soon as they come out. That being said, I believe she missed opportunities for relationship building in this book. A couple of the more obvious things - The heroine never meets her mate's twin or discuss the hero' s past at all and they never discuss her former marriage or the resulting damage of her time in with the villian. Maybe these type of interactions are not critical to the main storyline, but seem like gaping holes in building a meaningful relationship between the characters. As a reader, I enjoy "watching" the characters learning about and learning to deal with the other characters in the book, both primary and secondary. I would have liked to have seen more depth to these characters.

I really enjoy these Kordolians - and each one is a little different. Great book, if a little skimpy in parts. Honestly, I wanted more. Kora, mid-40s (Yeah!), with a teenaged kid, a stubborn streak, and an indomitable will, was a very interesting heroine. Thanks, Anna Carven, for writing a mature female lead with some miles and problems in her life, and not making her incapacitated by them. She was a breath of fresh air.

Jeral was more of my problem. He had a bit of insta-love, which isn't all that typical of the Kordolians.

Loving this series and I don't even mind being teased to the bitter end with the thread of the hidden enemy in the background. It was nice to see Tarak and Abbey as well.

kordolian kiwi

As always could not wait to read the latest in the kordolian warrior series. Then to my surprise the female character ‘Kora is a kiwi’ from Aotearoa ..Which made me even more eager and excited to read on as I am also from the land of the ‘long white cloud’. The storyline was ok, however I felt it kinda tamed, compared to its predecessors. I like the twist of the main characters ‘Kora and Jeral’ however I felt there should’ve been more to their story. I wasn’t disappointed, the kordolian universe is the bestest series and is number one on my best series list, it actually knocked Kresley Cole series IMD to 2nd, I just wanted more ..Hurry up with next one please ..👍😉

I've read all of Anna Carvens books, I loved almost all of them. But this one annoyed/bored me. For someone so traumatized to basically forget everything that's happened (within days?) and just go: oh, he's the right one - going to bed with him without any kind of hiccup in the process just felt ..wrong to me, a little too convenient and easy.
The whole book lacked oomph in my opinion. There was no real sense of danger (and the action scenes therefore boring), no real tension during the story and the romance sadly was no exception. Everything just fell perfectly into place.
At least that's how it felt to me.

Wow!

Oh wow, did I love this one! Sounds silly but I was a goner at Kora’s shower scene first time back home - not what you think! The patient revelation of her thoughts and feelings were the genuine reactions of someone who could only have gone through what she’s gone through and her trauma was so expertly laid out for the reader to understand and empathize... wicked impressed here. Although at other times there was just TOO much internal dialogue and I started to lose patience. But because she made these characters alive, I can’t be too annoyed, lol. Really loved this book.

Yes Anna you did it again!

I loved Jeral and kora there story was perfect it was a blend of tragic yet beautifully uplifting. I love a strong woman who can say yes it happened but I will not be defeated by the terrible things that happen in life and they do happen. This story is fantasy but Anna doesn't shy away from the harsh realities of life. Loved it wish it had been more but that's because it was good. I also liked her son reminded me of mine always so cocky and headstrong beautifully written.

New beginnings

Missed you Anna and my much beloved kordolian. Love Jarel, he is so much like Tarak. It is interesting that Lots is a trauma nurse and will fit in with the other women and their special abilities to help the First Decision carries adapt to being mercenaries and families. I still think there a story to be told about kharek that may need 2books. He is more than anyone sees. The new being with the barbed tail adds a new twist! Enjoyed this book and the loves of the kordolians. I highly recommend.

There is a lot I like about this book and series. I like that the main character is a little older and has a teen ager. I like that she's a nurse. I also like that the plot thickens as the decide who is stealing humans from Earth.

I didn't like that a lot of the history of Jeral seemed left out. There were holes in the plot about the riot on new years eve. Maybe it will be explained in another book? What about that woman who was injured?

Maybe the next book will explain more?

I have not been enjoying this spin-off series as much as the original. I realize there are a lot of moving parts in the world, but the lack of forward progression with the overall story-arc is frustrating. We're building up to a big confrontation, but taking 6(+) books to do it isn't really working for me. I enjoyed both MCs and I like the secondary characters, but I kept getting bored while reading. This felt like a long, drawn-out chapter, rather than a full novel. I hope we see more forward progression in the next book.

I own this on Kindle and Audible. I generally love the series but just do not like this narrator. I am wondering if it isn't AI generated because it's robotic and there is nearly no character differentiation. it took me a few days to decide to tough it out just bc I want to finish the series. Additionally, the further the series extends, the less original the books become. The overall plot wasn't moved much at all and there are so many repeated phrases that I am glad there is just 1 book left after this one.
