This edition is no longer in print, but Return to Essence is available in a more recent edition.
Being in the flow and not being in the flow are two very different states. One is dominated by the ego-driven mind, which is the cause of suffering, while the other is the domain of Essence, the Divine within each of us. We are meant to live in the flow. The flow is the experience of Essence-our true self-as it lives life through us and fulfills its purpose for this life. Return to Essence describes how to get into the flow and stay there and how to live life from there. It also explains what the flow is, how it feels, and what you find there; how the ego/mind and conditioning keep us out of the flow; how to get back into the flow; how action, talking, knowing, and choosing come out of the flow; how to discover where the flow is going; and how to find and fulfill our life purpose. Exercises throughout provide an opportunity for practicing and integrating the understanding.
From Return to Essence : "You cannot be fulfilled by someone else's life purpose; you can only be fulfilled by yours. You won't find out what that is by listening to the mind because it doesn't know. Only by paying attention to what is coming out of the flow and letting that lead you through your life will you fulfill your life's purpose."
From Return to "You were meant for this life you are having, not some other life, not someone else's life. Experiencing is the reason you are here. However, you are not here for just any experience but for the ones you are having because you are the only one in this entire universe destined for these experiences. They are designed just for you. You are co-creating them with the Source, which is loving it all."
"For fans of Eckhart Tolle and the few other great spiritual teachers of this time, this book shows us how to concretely apply those teachings in our everyday lives." -Jeff Bronson

I couldn't wait to recommend this book! I am not quite at the half way point and yet the message of Return to Essence is so hopeful for those who want to know and live as Truth that I feel compelled to let people know about it right away.
So often we hear that there is nothing to do and no one there to do anything. And yet if we want to wake up, this teaching can be very frustrating. Return to Essence approaches the idea of choice and effort in a completely new and refreshing way. Here is an excerpt:
"You must make this choice to be give your attention to the moment over and over again until being present in the moment becomes automatic and your natural way of being. Making this choice takes an ongoing commitment to waking up and allowing essence to live through you."
The message is clear, simple, and full of promise. Waking up is no longer for the fortunate few. It is the most natural thing, and Return to Essence is a wonderful guide for those who are tired of seeking and don't want to postpone freedom any longer.
This was the first time I’ve read one of Gina Lake’s books. When I started reading this book, I had a hard time with the terminology Lake used—egoic mind and essence. I wanted to read this book because of my interest in living a meaningful life. To obtain a meaningful or purposeful life, we need to the present and focus on getting into the flow of enjoying the present moment for just what it is and casting aside the mechanics of living, such as to do lists, goals and checklists. The flow is what Lake terms the Essence. This is the state of living that we are meant to be in. Lake adds exercises throughout this text to help the reader understand the process of finding the flow. I did not truly understand this process until I was near the end of the book. I will definitely have to go back and re-read this one now that I understand that the egoic mind relates to the human trait of being in control and essence relates to free will and the ability to choose to live in the moment.
This is the first book I have found which describes the mysterious "flow" of life. I had experienced being in it a few times, but didn't know how it happened, or how to get there again. Gina describes my usual condition of resisting what is, ie they shouldn't be making that noise, I can't relax until it stops etc. I can now notice this happening, and choose instead to just let all things be as they are, or do something to alter them. Actually, when I let go, I don't even have to choose. I let my higher self, or this mysterious intelligence in me, be in charge, and action is taken, or not, without the unnecessary thinking. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Gina. ❤️
This has been an eye opener book and I can relate on what she connoted that it can awaken one's true nature from stress to stillness. It provides life clarity and at the same time give calmness and peace while you are pondering on what is your true purpose in life. We often question ourself wioth it but after this read you would be able to view life in a different perspective. Great book very calming and gave me peace.
