NFL prospect, Jyles O’Brien, is ready to forge his own path and make a name for himself. He’s used to people giving in to his every demand and giving a middle finger to anybody who doesn’t. Then he meets Devyn Kincaid; an aspiring sports broadcaster, who has an untimely run-in with Jyles that jeopardizes her future. The solution rests solely on Jyles but kind gestures aren’t in his repertoire. Insanely opposite yet similar in the ways that matter most, Jyles makes the ultimate sacrifice to protect Devyn but will her heart see it that way.
What a journey. A super long journey. This book was so packed. It was thorough and sooo well developed. We met Jyles. He comes from money and is the son of a former NFL MVP, a college football star and eventually NFL star. Jyles was an ašşhõle. There's no other way to sugar coat it. But you couldn't help but love him. Devyn was sweet, she was smart, a little broken, but a badass. Hers and Jyles first encounter was a disaster cause…you guessed it. Cause Jyles was dīck with reckless mouth disease. He just be saying some foul stuff, but in the next sentence be saying some funny or do some sweet. Either for Devyn or his sister Ramsey, whom I LOVED. I am a sucker for friends to lovers and this story gave me something better: Enemies to friends, to lovers. Jyles and Devyn's friendship was soo deep and rooted. They truly were each other's best friends. Sometimes I wanted to thump Jyles on his forehead for taking this long to get his girl, but I understand why he waited so long and how important it was for him to do so for the sake of his and Devyn's relationship. Their friendship was soo beautiful, I almost didn't want them together, BUT she was his person. No one would have been able to deal with Jyles the way Devyn did. She understood him, she knew him. Perfect for each other. I don't want to waste my energy on Enya, she exhausted the heck out of me. She was like a dog with a bone, like ma'am, where is your shame?! And no one's gonna change my mind. She trapped my friend. And Mr. Rahsul, what exactly did he think was gonna happen. I was utterly annoyed with Janessa throughout the entire book. But hey 🤷🏾♀️, it worked out. I loved and loved that I got to meet Ramsey and got a bit of her story and how beautiful it worked out for her. I wanted way more of her Ziggy. Rams and Rue were the real MVP if you ask me 😏 This was my first book by this author and it was excellent and I loved it. I definitely recommend this book. (Just know it's long AF 😩) Thank you to the book friend who recommended this book. You know who you are and please, keep those recs coming 🙃
This was a beautifully written slow burning enemies to best friends then best friends turned lovers story. Devyn and Jyles both met and the start of their individual careers and hated each other. After a battle of the egos one event change the course of their lives forever. I love me a good sports story and this book was filled with everything you’d expect. I loved how solid their friendship was throughout the story! The true foundation of any lasting relationship. The growth of the characters in the story minus Enya was refreshing. This was 525 pages of smiles, laughs and OMG moments! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Let me first say Devyn and Jyles worked my nerves!! Because WHY were they doing all this when it was clear that they were meant to be together. Devyn was such a boss babe. She had grown a tough exterior to deal with her MIA mother. In reality she just matched energies, so if you were turnt so was she lol. The epitome of I ain't no killa but don't push me. Which explains the hot mess of Devyn's and Jyles' first interaction. He was on some fboy ish and she made sure he knew it. Definitely a thin line between love and hate between them. After Jyles comes to her rescue he decides he is going to "friend zone" her because she is different and he doesn't want to hurt her, but for whatever reason he needs her in his life. This fool was low key head over heels and had no idea what to do with it. He knew he wasn't ready and he refused to be like his wandering as$ father, so he took heed to his sister's warnings and kept things platonic. Until they weren't. Devyn realizes she is in love with her best friend and like the boss babe she is, she desires to act on it. Jyles tries to avoid it, but the magic happens. I just knew that after that they were going to be together or fold. Instead they became stronger friends and supported each other through years of life. They were in each other's corner as Devyn's journalism career flourishes, as Jyles' NFL career has its ups and downs, through a few moves, and as Jyles' works through fatherhood. I always say I want to experience everything and this book does that. It spans over at least a decade of growth between Devyn and Jyles and we experience it all. It was almost too much, because by half of the book they were still playing and I was ready to get the show on the road lol. I liked Jyles' and he had so much BDE until it was time to man up and take things to the next level with Devyn. I didn't like how she always had to initiate it, she was fragile. I wanted more from him in those moments. Listen this is an excellent read if you are a greedy reader like me and want to go on a journey to love. They gone take you through it.
SN: Was I the only one that didn't care for Ramsey's point of view 🤷🏾♀️ I like the voice to be the main characters please and thanks.
I had such a good time reading about Jyles & Dev, their banter, chemistry, support for each other was everything. I love how creative this author is!! Dev is an absolute Queen & she was ten toes down for Jy since they started being “Best Friends”. Jyles really took me through it but I love how he wasn’t letting Dev go. These didn’t even feel like 500+ pages. I fell in love with who they were as friends, the way they cut up together, laugh, and be fake annoyed 🤣.
Related note:
Please know I’m always on Team: Make that 🥷🏾 grovel and beg so I would have loveeee to see more of that 🤣.
Amazon back on that BS, so let's see if this review gets posted👀👀👀. BAY-BE KAYLYN, YOU DID YOUR MOTHERFUDGESICKLESTIX THANG HONEY!!! There's nothing I loved more than a great friends to lovers love story💕. This story gave me all the feels, laughter, anger, ready to fight but, most importantly, love💕. I swear I didn't want Jy & Dev's crazy story to end. Poor Ahmad insecure a** didn't stand a chance after he showed his insecurities to Jy😔. He really thought he was doing something when Dev gave him the "I'm just screwing you until the man I really want get his ish together booty"😂😂😂. Auntie Vi was my girl! The while Kincaid family had no filter but, her and Dev took the cake🤦🏾. I must agree, I loved Ramsey but, I could've done without her storyline. Like I get it but, you would've thought she was the kidnapped and raped by Curtis the way she was acting🙄. Her momma and daddy wasn't sugar honey ice tea, poor baby was in desperate need of therapy. If ain't ish a** phuck ninja was a person it'd be Rahsul O'Brien. That motherfudgesicklestix was a prime example of a man who should've stayed single at all cost cause his man whore a** couldn't stay faithful to save his life😡. Now if c that's my man and ima struck by him was a person, it's most definitely be Mrs. Janessa😔. She wasn't innocent cause she stayed making excuses for his sorry a** and stayed by his side until a possible scandal threatened to blood up that shame of a marriage🙄. If delusional bm was a person, that dang Enya took the cake honey😔. That Dang girl gave baby momma from hell a whole new meaning. It's the audacity to go from keeping her pregnancy a secret, to keeping Rue a secret for over a year, then popping back up once Jy make it thinking she was getting the wifey spot🙄😂. Talking about somebody breaking up their family🤦🏾😂. That girl let her effed up delusional attitude, that mother, her momma and her sister talk her out of a bag😔. That a** whooping Dev gave her was long overdue and sis still didn't learn her lesson. Rue was everything! She was her daddy's twin from the looks to the mouth. She stayed blowing up her mommas spot😂😂😂. I freakin loved me some Jy & Dev🖤! Those two may have started off on the wrong foot but, those two built one hell of a friendship. Their back and fourth banter and shenanigans kept me laughing the entire book. Their love for each other was evident after the first chapter. That proposal had me crying and that ending was perfect💕 IT'S DEFINITELY A MUST READ FOR ME🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I didn’t like Jyles at first! He was arrogant & way too cocky for me! But I quickly saw he had a softer side to him especially when it came to Devyn! Their first time meeting wasn’t the best but character development between these two was insane!! They went from hating each other to best friends & more… I loved every minute of it, 525 pages & I honestly could’ve read more of these two!! The family drama, Enya and all her foolishness & Ramsey learning to heal from her past & navigate new relationships added so much to ur story!! Such a good read!
Can I just say how amazing this author is and how proud I am of her! This book was so good and it was worth every page read. I loved Jyles from the very beginning and he never let me down. He was human but it just goes to show that when a man truly loves you’ll they’ll do what they have to in order to keep you. Every book in my opinion gets better and better and this is definitely a top favorite.
Another beautiful friends to lovers story..I loved Jy & Bossy story…idc I low key feel like Enya trapped Jy…Rue was too cute..Jy was a loving asshole 🤣. The best part of this story was Ramsey finding love too after what she been through 🥰🥰
What an amazing love story! This was my first read by this author and it will not be my last. I loved everything about Jyles and Devyn. It was like enemies to friends to lovers to forever! The chemistry was explosive and their love was so authentic. One of my favorite scenes was when Jyles took his shirt off and put it back on backwards to become her best friend to talk about her fiancé. Genius move! I also enjoyed the social media postings making the story contemporary connecting to our current reality. I wished that Enya would have grown up for the sake of the child...she was pathetic. So many nuggets pulled from this story. This author owes me nothing...great story indeed.
The story was worth all 500+ pages. Technically the story was an enemy to friends to lovers story. And a sports-themed love story. I loved this couple.
Jy came into Devyn’s life like a wrecking ball and turned her world upside down! The journey from enemies to best friends to lovers was really nice to see. I will say so many parts I wanted to cuss both Devyn and Jy out! Like their communication is lacking until 80% 😭. Either way, they got it together! I don’t like Ahmed or Enya. Big trash! Ramsey and Zion were sweet but honestly could’ve been a novella short. This overall was a good sports romance and one I would definitely recommend!
Kaylyn did it again!! She does not miss when it comes to graphics and creating characters that have you so invested like you’re a part of the family. Jyles and Devyn were everything! I loved how they started as enemies and gradually became friends. It was pretty evident early on that they would become more than friends. Jyles was literally in love from the beginning. I appreciated the growth of the characters as they transitioned from young adults in college to reaching their career goals. Enya has to be the worst, she thought she could make Jyles fall for her but she definitely found her match in Jyles AND Devyn! I also liked that we learned a lot about Ramsey; I loved her story. She was the dark horse and I did not expect to get sucked into her story like I did. Zion was such a sweetheart and Ramsey deserved happiness. This story pulled me in from the very beginning, I did not want it to end!
I LOVED this story the friendship between Jyles and Devyn was everything. The pace was just so realistic they were just a good match for each other. They really balance each other out and what each other needed. I love sports romance and this was just real. I love that we got to see Jyles fight temptation as a athlete, usually in sports romance book the MC is just perfect when it comes to being monogamy so seeing that just build to his character. My favorite scene is when he turn his shirt inside out to be her bestfriend because of regardless of their relationship that never changed. Chile Evil ass got on my nerves I can’t stand bitter bms. They do dumb things and act out for social media then wonder why they weren’t picked chile. Devyn was just such a boss and feisty and I love that she never turned it down for no one. I would to read more from this author.
I seriously enjoyed this story. I'm so glad I didn't give up on Jyles because homebody got on my nerves at the beginning. Whew he was mean and surely. However, he met his perfect match with Bossy. This story was told in a perfect way that allowed readers to see the growth of the two main characters and witness a true friendship develop into something more. I loved this story. I would have like having more of Zion and Ramset's story but I'm glad things worked out for them.
This was such a great storyline i hated for it to end. All the characters was good and I’m glad Enya got ripped of everything bc her and her sister got on my nerves. I loved loved Jyles and Bossy. And glad even Ram got her her love at the end. Good from beginning to the end.
Let Me Love You Better was the Sports Romance, I didn’t know I needed. Jyles is EVERYTHING!!
Definitely a different spin on enemies to lovers but in the best way. Emotions ran high but the devotion ran ever higher. We saw how everything that glitters in the spotlight isn’t golden. In the end, everyone is human and deserving of a relentless filled type of love.
Omgggg I want more! From the beginning until the very end this book had me hooked. I love me some Jyles.. he's definitely bae. Him and Devyn were truly everything together and I wouldn't change one thing about them. Love wins!
This is one of the best books that I've read this year. I loved the way the friendship and relationship evolved between Jyles and Devyn. I also enjoyed a glimpse into Ramsay's life. She was her brother's keeper and he was the same for her. I would highly recommend this book.
4.5⭐️ This book follows Jyles O'Brien and Devyn Kincaid at the beginning of their careers: Jyles in the NFL and Devyn sports journalist. When I tell you this story is going to take you on a journey, chile that it does. Jyles and Devyn meet when they were around 21, and their first meeting was not good at all. Jyles was a straight up A**hole to Devyn for no reason at all. I didn't know if I was going to like him at first, but he eventually won me over. Jyles ends up fixing a situation that he caused and these two become best friends. They eventually have a moment and end up kissing. However, Jyles puts a pen in it, because he knew he couldn't be the man Devyn needed in a relationship. I respected the fact that Jyles knew he wouldn't be faithful and wasn't going to play with Devyn's heart like that and didn't want to be like his father. Their friendship though was so dope. They had each other for real, and always showed up when the other needed them. Five years later and these two are still playing games with each other. It was clear as day that they were in love with each other, but neither one of them was budging. They frustrated me so bad, especially Jyles because he knew he wanted to be with Devyn. I will say that their friendship and banter with each other was my favorite parts of the story. I loved the way they were with each other. Jyles was a different type of men and I truly believe Devyn is the only one who can match his energy and vice versa. When Devyn made the move and Jyles finally accepted his feelings for her it was over. Everything with them after that was full speed, engagement, marriage, babies I loved it all. I also loved the side characters. I am happy that we got to see Jyles sister Ramsey's story play out in this book as well. Rue stole the show every time she was on the page, loved that little girl. Now her Mama Enya, needs another a** kicking, I could not stand her, and she worked my nerves the entire story. Jyles and Devyn are on my favorite couple list now. I truly enjoyed this book!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was my first book by this author. She certainly did not miss. The book pulled me in from the very beginning and I did not want it to end. I love how Jyles spotted Devyn from the beginning and yes he was reckless with her how he talked to her at their first meet. However, I like how Ramsey made him fix his attitude towards Devyn and made him go and get her internship back. He was truly a blessing to her. He not only helped her get her internship back but she got to work with someone very popular in the field that helped her further with her career. I loved how Jyles pulled out all the stops to make Devyn his friend calling her his bestfriend from the very beginning. Yes Devyn was his bestfriend and vice versa. They helped each other through their challenges. I hated how long it took Jyles to figure out that she was truly his person considering how she was there for him for everything, from the pep talks, attending the games and helping him with Rue and navigating Enya. And let us not forget Enya. She was absolutely horrible and yes I agree she definitely set out to trap Jyles and I am so glad that he did not fall in her trap ever. I am also glad that she got the whipping that was coming to her.
I loved the side stories with Ramsey and Zion. I am so glad that she found happiness as she had been carrying so much baggage for so long and was afraid to let anyone in.
I am also glad that Janessa moved on from Rashul’s cheating ass.
I am looking forward to reading another book by this author!!
I really enjoyed this story! I love a story of love, family and growth. The O'Brien's were a rich famous bowl of hot mess lol. Their father used his fame and money to buy his family, he didn't love on, protect or nurture them, not even his wife because she stayed with him way to long enduring his bs and disrespect. Jyles was not a likeable character at first, I mean I couldn't stand him, he was spoiled, arrogant, disrespectful, and just unlikeable. Ramsey kind of got on my nerves, I understand what she lacked and didn't get from her parents, plus Jyles being the golden boy that could do no wrong, her mother blaming her for Jyles messing up irked my nerves. I wanted Ramsey to go get therapy and stop being so woe is me, she kind of came out of it towards the end. Their family was truly the epitome of all that glitters ain't gold. Devyn was my girl, mature, determined, focused, she stood on business and didn't take any mess from nobody, especially Jyles. I loved her family dynamic, her Dad, aunt and cousins were pure funny love. I loved how she and Jyles went from not really liking each other to building a genuine friendship that lasted years. That gave them time to grow as individuals and together, when they did FINALLY get together, they were more than ready because they really knew each other, and yeah Devyn was still cautious as she should have been but they let their love for each other guide them. There were a few grammatical, misspelled, missing or misplaced words that got irritating, but still, Great story.
OMG! I can’t even put it to words how amazing this book was from beginning to end. The the first chapter it was hard to put down and savor because I could not get enough of Mr. Jyles O’Brien. Hunny he was the breath I didn’t know I needed. I love a good friends to lover and this read met all my requirements and more. Someone need a to hand deliver Kaylyn her flowers because she Aced the assignment and graduated with the degree. Jyles was amazing, smart mouth and all, he could do no wrong in my book. I loved him for Devyn. Devyn put the capital B in Bossy and I loved every minute of it. The banter between her and Jyles was swoon worthy and the chemistry had been through the roof since their first introduction. I loved that Ramsey found her voice and love all at once. Rue was my fav kid of all time. Enya definitely deserved them hands she was served. The O’Brien parents were hell. Overall I loved this book through and through. I definitely have a book hangover from this one and it’s added to my top 5 of the year so far. I can’t wait from more from this author this is my first read from her and it was beyond anything I expected. Excuse me while I run to her catalog!!!
Jyles knew nothing about Devyn but he knew wanted to get to know her because she challenged him. Ramsey told Jyles to fix what ever he did to Devyn because it was a possibility that she might not graduate all because of a misunderstanding. Enya is the baby mama from h@££. She had kept Rue from Jyles after a year. She is miserable, bitter, jealous and money hungry. She played the victim real well but steadily running to social media. Ahmad knew he didn't stand a chance because Jyles was in picture all the time. Rahsul knew he was a dog. Ramsey let her past effect her present, I'm surprised that Zion still wanted to talk with her after that. Rue told the police her mama started with Devyn. That little girl had her back always. How can Devyn be mad at Jyles because he called and to what happened at the strip club. They were about to married that means no secrets, right? Enya asked Jyles what made Devyn different from her, because he chose marry Devyn. Jyles told her she was just something to do, she has a career. They got married had twins
At first I wasn’t sure how this book was going to go because I really did not like Jyles. I was definitely reading while side-eyeing him for a minute, but I kept pushing through and eventually he started to grow on me. Now his parents… they were messy and I was not feeling them at all. Though i’m glad they matured in the end.
What I did love was Devyn and her relationship with her father. I also really enjoyed seeing Jyles with his sister Ramsey. Those relationships added a lot of heart to the story.
The romance between Jyles and Devyn was a slow burn, but their friendship and banter made it worth it. Even though this is a sports romance, the story also highlights how an absent parent, lack of love, and growing up around a toxic marriage can shape how people move through life and relationships. Watching them try to be better than what they grew up seeing, even without the right tools, made their growth really stand out.
Despite everything they went through, they eventually got it together and that made the journey worth it. Overall this was a great read for me. Definitely a 10 out of 10.
Jy and Devyn were the cutest. I loved how they developed a friendship. Dev was everything Jy didn’t know he needed until he realized it but he knew it wasn’t the right time because he was still being a male thot. I loved how he respected her and leaned on her she definitely brought out the best in him and he was the same for her. I’m just glad it didn’t take to the end of the book before they finally got it together and quit playing.
Enya was a bird 🙄 and got on my last nerve. The way she kept throwing herself at Jyles and crying because he wouldn’t give them a chance was annoying.
I honestly could’ve done without Ramsey’s story she just seemed a bit dramatic. Yes Curtis was an adult and he knew better but she said herself he didn’t take advantage of her and for her to freak out after dreaming about him and upon seeing him was just dramatic. The way they was acting one would think the man kidnapped her and held her against her will as his sex slave or something geeezzz 🤦🏾♀️
I really enjoyed this book but Lord is was too long for no reason all that back and forth between Jyles and Devyn went on to long. I won’t lie I had to skip some paragraphs to get to the next chapter sometimes.
Jyles and Devyn were meant for each other and they both fought the truth. Ahmad was talking big but got put in his place at Auntie Vi party. There journey was something and to see their ending was amazing!
Auntie Vi is that woman 🤣. I really enjoyed the relationship between Devyn and he father. I really thought something bad happen to Ramsey and when i read what really went down I was like and how she reacted at the movies 🙄🙄🙄. I am so happy that she got her HEA.
Rue was spoiled but she was so adorably written, her love for Chipotle was so funny..now her mother that’s another story. Enya was something special and I don’t understand why she kept coming around getting her feelings hurt 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ like that man does not want you focus on your child.
