She left the first time, but she couldn’t get away.
JULES He looked as shocked as I felt. The grumpy, demanding one-night stand I thought I’d get away with not seeing again is my new boss, and I’m the center of his attention. He assigned me to his most important account, one that comes with tribulations of its own, and it’ll take all of the confidence I can muster to prove myself. That is, if he doesn’t break me first.
WILLIAM The new company we acquired was supposed to be an easy success. An increase in profit and new leadership would turn it around, and I’d be home in Chicago in a year. Then there she was. I never thought I’d see the woman again after she snuck away in the middle of the night, but now she demands the attention of my most important client. She’s a force to be reckoned with, and I don’t stand down from a challenge.
Meg Becker received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Creative Writing from the University of Kansas, but she has known she'd be a writer since she wrote her first story in the first grade. Today, she finds herself at home in a field of sunflowers, by a lake in the mountain, or anywhere with a good view, but she resides in Kansas City with her amazing husband that is nothing like the broody men she writes about in her books. She's a sucker for a happy ending, and she can often be found reading with an iced coffee or glass of red wine, quite possibly both.
When she's not reading or writing spicy romance, Meg is likely learning a new hobby, cuddling with her two dogs and cat, or performing the soundtrack to RENT from behind the steering wheel of her car. During football season, she puts down her pen every Sunday to cheer for the Kansas City Chiefs. Visit her online at www.authormegbecker.com.
I was recommended this book through a group and it did not disappoint. This books has enemies to lovers, a grumpy hot guy with tattoos, and the right amount of romance.
God. Me when? I love a good billionaire ceo so uptight but only soft for his girl. and when the man can grovel like a king I melt. I could literally feel their chemistry through the pages. This is the first book I’ve read by Meg and sincerely I’m so upset it took me this long. I will be reading the follow up book because yes it’s about his brother and yes we’ll get williamjules crumbs!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Did I enjoy this book? Overall, despite the heroine, yes.
Why?
Something about the "one night stand turns out to be new boss" trope is just chef's kiss. The heroine has a great pair of friends who provide some appreciated comic relief. I unashamedly fell for the MMC even though he really was a total jerk. Don't judge me! There's a situation with a former coworker that turns violent and I think the author did a really nice job of working through some of those nuances.
Why not 5 stars?
I am not saying there's anything wrong with the FMC BUT I just couldn't get behind her. I found her to be severely immature. I may be biased because as a professional woman I never understood any of Jule's decisions or reactions. She was all over the place, emotionally, in the office. I promise I would've fired her right quick.
Is it spicy? Yes, as well as an HR nightmare.
Is it smutty smut smut? Surprisingly yes - even though a majority of it happens in the office!
First and foremost, I loved the writing in this book. The description is so detailed in this book, the author is very talented.
I walked into this book thinking he was going to fall in love and couldn't get enough of her after she left. I was semi-wrong. Not at all disappointed though. I usually prefer books where the guy falls fast and hard, even though I believe that's what William did, it took him some time to realize. When he finally figured out his feelings, it was too late and Juels was already gone.
Going back to my point about the author's beautiful writing, I had that feeling deep in my gut that I only get when the authors hit the spot in the angsty section of the book. It's a physical feeling that I had to deal with 70% to 80% in. It was absolutely amazing.
But back to Will, his confession finally happened. The buildup was great and I was happy with everything. All was right in the world when he finally confessed to Andy that he loved Julianna.
The only reason this didn't get a full five stars from me was the very, very speedy engagement. If I understand correctly, they did not even meet four months prior to when he proposed. It's even worse if you pay attention to the fact that they didn't even have a talk about what they were. William just called Juels his girlfriend the same night for the first time.
It was still an amazing book all things considered. I can't wait to read the second book in the series. :)

This book follows Julianna (Jules) and William, who meet at a bar when he saves her from getting her drink spiked. They hook up, she leaves in the middle of the night, and surprise! He's the new CEO of the marketing company she works for.
Story/Plot Review: ♡ Jules was a very relatable FMC, and I LOVED that she wasn't the typical shy, soft-spoken, more of a pushover type. (I've read too much of that) I gobbled up every interaction between her and William since he was a man who wasn't used to being challenged/talked back to. I adore FMC's that hold their own against the grumpy, brooding, alphahole MMC. Her moments of anxiety and hurt helped Jules feel real to me - and how William responded to her anxiety was perfection (hand on her thigh, small of her back, etc). The little but big things for someone with anxiety (like myself) make the characters more relatable.
The spice in the book was 🥵🌶 I was loving the bend over my desk, while coworkers can probably hear outside the office and the toying around while on a call. Perfection. The spice/smut did not take away from the plot at all, and it flowed well with the story - This had me even more engaged.
Writing Style Review: ♡ Meg has an AMAZING writing style. I absolutely loved how she was able to convey a deeper sense of emotion and expression in her writing. This book had me entranced from the very beginning. The spicy scenes weren't overdone - they were HOT don't get me wrong, but everything gave me such vivid imagery in my head, which is everything I look for in good writing - The whole book read like I was watching a movie in my head
❤️❤️❤️❤️SPOILERS BELOW❤️❤️❤️❤️
The only reason I didn't give a full 5⭐️ was because of their VERY speedy engagement to marriage. I would have loved more time exploring that aspect of their relationship - When he took her to get an engagement ring, moving in together, wedding planning, Jules stsrting to work for William's dad in Chicago... I really missed these details! I'm hoping more will be revealed in the next books! Maybe a glimpse back to these moments? I'll definitely be continuing on in the series!

Are you a fan of Spicy romance stories? Or feels a sudden urge to be glued to the plot of 'enemies to lover' kind of storyline? Then the first installment of the Butterflies Series book which The Butterfly Effect by the Author Meg Becker has penned down an interesting and steaming romance book for us readers who enjoys and luxuirate to read hot and erotic romantic story, with protagonist like Jule and William, who accidentally stand on the same pedestal after a one night stand, as Willam who has recently acquired a new company and fell in shock where he finds Jules, who is handling his most important client. Both seeking attention and validation, trying to focus, but never imagined how it would end
I personally loved both the protagonist who are portrayed in an unfiltered way with their character which gave it a realistic perspective and Jules's character was written more effortlessly, which was nothing like just an ordinary fictional character but a real human like us which I absolutely appreciate along with the cover and title of the book. It was after a really long time that I read this genre, which was light, easy going and engrossing.
I’m surprised my eyes aren’t permanently lodged at the back of my head after all the eye rolls the MMC induced because wow is he an asshole, boderline misogynistic and has anger issues. Also fails to understand the meaning of a one night stand.
“When a woman was lucky enough to make it into my bed, she usually stayed there as long as she could. It had become a joy of mine to kick them out the next morning.”
Litreally one sentence later…”Anger rose in my chest again at the empty living room and the rest of the house. I wanted to yell at her, except I had no way to do so.”
“Goddamn it!” I slammed my fist down against the dark granite of my kitchen countertop. She’d better hope she never saw me again.”
Ever ate a hot entree and the spice made your lips and tongue burn for hours afterward? This is the level of spice in Meg Becker's The Butterfly Effect. It immediately begins to burn as Jules meets William in a bar. William is a reluctant knight, but can't ignore Julianna's charms. He thought it would just be a one-night stand until he walked in as the CEO and discovered Julianna was working for him. Let the dance begin because the chemical heat of Jules and William is too strong to ignore. The tension in the workplace is intense and makes the gravity of their two hearts only stronger. Highly recommended and with a very satisfying HEA.
Wow! This book popped up on my feed, and looked interesting, so I thought I’d give it a read. I’m so glad I did. This book was a fantastic easy read that I couldn’t put down. It had a great plot with great characters and just the right amount of spice! I was trying to find another good book to read, but this turned out to a great emotional roller coaster. I laughed. I cried! I can’t wait for the next book!
I am always a sucker for a grumpy sunshine romance so I decided to give this one a read and at first I was in love we had a strong female lead Jules that didn’t just do whatever William wanted even when it was her literal job to do so. That is until the end where I feel like her strong personality changed into a pick me girl so fast it gave me whip lash. I wish we could have gotten the HEA without sacrificing her character traits that made me love her.
I just want to say wow. If you haven't read,I'd totally read it if I were you. The roller coaster of emotions was one I was not expecting. When I say I laughed out loud, I really did. Did I tear up a few times? Absolutely. Am I gonna read this again in the future? You bet ya' You can tell Meg put her heart into every word and I look forward to reading the next one, right now!:)
I don't understand how this is my first time reading Meg Becker, but this did not disappoint.
William is such a grumpy, demanding, billionaire boss man. Jules is a badass woman in a male dominant career with the ability to demand a room, and have fun along the way.
I love the power dynamic between these two, and that they get a HEA.
I'm off to go onto the next one is this series and I'm sure I'll love it just as much.
Perfect story — Jules and William are a new favorite!
This is so beautifully written! The story of Jules alone was enough to hook me: Strong, witty and independent woman who takes no sh*t. Definitely my type of character. William comes in and challenges her, pushes her, frustrates her. Worth the read and I want to see more of their story! Can’t wait to read book 2!!
My only gripe was there felt like there was a lot of repetitiveness to me personally that kind of turned me off, but other than that, I enjoyed it and thought it was a good read!
(Also Ana and Christian from Fifty Shades vibes!!)
This was my first office romance. It was fun! Cute, spicy, and well-written. William was sassy and smexy. Julianna was great. This author did a good job.
Jules is just looking for fun when she runs into William at a bar. After he’s extremely rude on their one-night-stand, she leaves in the middle of the night, just for him to show up as her new boss the next day. Things are about to get messy!
Spicy romance at its finest! We’ve got immediate attraction. We’ve got drama. We’ve got conflict. But most importantly we’ve got a badass female main character in Jules.
I thought the spice was really well written, it didn’t take away from the plot. The plot was really well paced. I enjoyed the premise, I liked the heat. The drama was well cooked and executed and kept me reading!
The Butterfly Effect follows Jules and William as the navigate through their relationship full of intense attraction and confusion. Jules is a leading women in the corporate world and holds her own and is respected for the most part. William is a successful business man who many are afraid of, which he enjoys.
After Jules and William have a one-night stand, they find themselves in a predicament when William becomes the new CEO of the company where Jules works. William is extremely domineering and bossy and I didn't like him from the start. His behavior was gross to me. He put Jules in situations that weren't right as a professional, in my opinion, but Jules also didn't say no.
William rubbed me the wrong way the entire book. He claimed that he was an asshole, which proved true. That wouldn't have been a bad thing if he left it as being a douche to everyone else, but he chose to be one to Jules as well and didn't see anything wrong with it. But again, Jules liked that about him to a certain extent. She did put him in his place, which was something I enjoyed.
I don't think this book was horrible, but I couldn't get passed William's behavior and how he handled his attraction towards Jules. Even his apology was half-assed and conveniently, Jules forgave him and happily ever after.
This dual POV was a fun, sexy, spicy, one night stand is my new boss novel. Jules is a wear my heart on my sleeve type of Adult aged FMC who just loved life but had a rough *love life*. William rough around the edges tattooed man was intriguing from the start, and the more the story went on the more I just loved this character.
