In Another One, the next exciting book in the Behind The Veil Supernatural Thriller Series, Detective Evan Parker focuses on the last unsolved case his dead partner has left behind: the brutal murder of Hymie Villarosa.
But now, alone at his desk at L.A.P.D's Hollenbeck Station, Parker is being haunted by his past. After two tours in the Afghanistan War, he thought the horrors that he witnessed there were behind him. But the death of his partner has opened a dark hole of memories that are threatening to swallow Parker alive.
Meanwhile, a few blocks away at Saint Francis Church, Father Bernardino Soltera is being destroyed by the present. After ministering to the gang ridden streets of East L.A. for twenty years, he can no longer see past the suffering that drugs and violence have wreaked on his neighborhood. But when a young girl confesses that she's pregnant and her boyfriend is going to kill her if she doesn't get an abortion? Father Soltera decides to make one more stand.
Down the street, gang member Hector Villarosa is being mocked by the future. After being released from jail, he discovers the love of his life is with another man. As the leader of his gang, losing face could mean losing his life, and the fact that detectives are now asking questions about the death of Hector's cousin, Hymie, isn't helping. But Hector has an even bigger problem: the demon that has followed him out of prison and all the way home.
Now, a priest will sin in the name of love, a gangster will plunge into a battle to the death with pure evil, and Detective Even Parker will discover that death is not all that it seems to be.
Tony Faggioli was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and raised in Los Angeles. He graduated from the University of Southern California and is a happily married father of two kids, two dogs and a pretty awesome goldfish.
Amazing, the help you get when you least expect it....
I loved this book because it flows and made me think a lot about God. My favourite character is Father Soltera - the journey that is forced upon him isn't an easy one and at times he wavers. Until help arrives in a very unlikely form...
Detective Evan Parker is battling his own demons after the shooting death of his partner, Napoleon Villa. Parker has what seems like survivor's guilt and is therefore teamed up with Campos, a handsome ladies man with an infectious laugh - and nothing at all like Napoleon.
Then there's Hector, gang leader fresh out of jail, whose girlfriend moved on, whose cousin got himself tangled up in another gang's territory and whose death Hector must be seen to revenge. But Hector doesn't really want to. Hector wants to kill the new boyfriend. His heart is broken and his mind will be too, again with some help.
These circumstances create an explosive collision for all when their lives come together in a fight for life. The thing is, where does the help come from? And will it be in time?
If I say more I will give away too much so I'm just leaving it there....you decide for yourself if the provisions are on a collision course too. It surely made me think about coincidence!
I received this book from the author, I write reviews for every fiction book I read. Enjoy!
I really enjoyed Another One. This is the first volume in The Parker Trilogy. I am so excited to proceed with the series which is rare for me, if you read my blog you know I don't typically read series but I can't let this one pass me by! This was my First book by Tony Faggioli and I can't wait to read more by this awesome author. The author really created a thrilling and quite haunting story. I found that very few authors can surprise me but Tony's book is surely the exception to that.
Another One is a super fast-paced story with riveting detail. There are complex and compelling characters that are dynamic and interesting. There is also a well done supernatural element to this story. All this creates twists and turns that will keep you entranced and on the edge of your seat.
The main character, Detective Evan Parker is battling some demons after a shooting, which resulted in the death of his partner Napoleon Villa. He has some resulting Post Traumatic Stress Disorder afterward and his battling serious survivors guilt. He is determined to solve the last case his partner left behind. Unfortunately, the case seems to be a can of worms. He gets a new partner who is a charming ladies man named Campos, and he couldn't be any more different than his partner Napoleon.
Of course, no story is complete without a bad boy. The bad boy of this story is named Hector, who is a gang leader who is fresh out of jail. While in jail his girlfriend moved on to a new man. He wants to kill this new boyfriend and his mind is set on revenge.
This will lead up to an explosive situation when all their lives end up intertwining. I don't want to give away too much of the plot but it was such a great plot. The author really succeeded at creating a roller coaster ride for your emotions and will leave you guessing what will happen.
Disclaimer: I received this book from RABT Tours and Tony in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
Tony takes you on a thrilling and haunting ride, as no one else can! This story was fast-paced and riveting with complex, compelling characters and a fantastically-done supernatural element. The twists and turns keep you enthralled and on the edge of your seat wondering what to expect next.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this story in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
There are three main characters involved in this story. You have Hector, just released from a short stretch in jail, who is the leader of a small gang, part of a bigger criminal organisation. He is being followed about by a small demon, who first appeared whilst he was in jail, and followed him back home. His best friend and cousin, Hymie, was murdered just before he went into jail and now the police are asking questions again. His girl has gone off with someone else while he was inside and because he can’t be seen to lose face, he has to take a hard line on those around him.
You have an elderly priest, Father Soltera, who has almost given up on his faith after dealing with drugs and gangs in East L.A. for over twenty years. The constant drugs and violence on the streets and the ills that happen with old age are wearing him down. The only reason that gives him a second wind is the latest young girl having to come to the church for help. She is pregnant, but won’t name the father. He is a member of a local gang and well entrenched in that life and very controlling over her life. He wants her to have an abortion, which goes against her faith, but she is beginning to waver. If she doesn’t have an abortion, he has now threatened her with violence. Father Soltera is stuck in the middle of the situation.
Then there is Detective Parker, who lost his partner Napoleon Villa recently when he was gunned done right in front of him. This has made him struggle again with the PTSD that followed him from two tours of Afghanistan and the horrors and deaths he witnessed there. He is now struggling with Napoleons death and trying to continue without him by his side. Still on the mean streets of L.A. and determined to pick up on his old partners last unsolved case, the shooting of Hymie, some four months previously. Leads may be old and memories fading, but Parker is determined and just has to overcome the dark memories surrounding him.
The fight between good and evil, fought on the streets, the local church and in the homes of the people of the area continues and gives a very different touch on this. The demon following Hector, the voice the priest occasionally hears and the help Parker gets at one crucial point. The priest is even more confused about his faith and has to learn to accept what he sees and hears and realise that some prayers are indeed answered. A slow start and sometimes confusing change of characters between chapters, until you get far enough in. It does end quite suddenly - which leads to the obvious conclusion that another book is to follow!
I received an ARC copy of this book from Hidden Gems and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
East L.A., CA. Twin Towers Jail Chico (Fresno Street Vatos Mexican gang member), & Bennie (speech impediment, Fresno Street Vatos Mexican gang) were there to pick up Hector Villarosa (Fresno Street Vatos Mexican gang leader) upon his release. Jimmy (Central Flats gang member) had beaten the H out of Bennie with a baseball bat. Marisol (Hector’s ex-GF) had found someone else David Fonseca (bouncer). He was going to go see her regardless.
Sunny’s Liquor Store. Uncle Hymie “the Stump” Villarosa (Fresno Street Vatos Mexican gang leader) had been gunned down by a bunch of Korean gang members. Yoon Sun Kim did not make it either. St. Francis Church. Father Bernardino Soltera (55, neuroendocrine pancreatic cancer) was listening to her confession. Luisa a teen girl lost her virginity & now was P/G. What did Detective Evan Parker (LAPD East LA specialized Gang Unit, PTSD, military vet, Iraq, Afghanistan), & Detective Klink Campos (Evan’s partner, LAPD East LA specialized Gang Unit) find out from Eric Yi (27, Asian)? What later happened to Jimmy? Carlos, Eddie, Francisco, Reuben, Renee, Alberto, & Tito welcomed Hector “Churro” back home.
What was Guero “El Puño” Martinez (Luisa’s Uncle, La Merea gang boss, drugs) up to? Hector Villarosa, & Burro were having a conversation about Marisol. Chico was in Pico Rivera trying to unload some stolen car parts to Ingraham. Hector called Bennie to come pick him up. Detective Parker was closing in on Danny Noh (aka Tic Toc). Officer Rebecca Fordham, Officer Edelson, & Detective Campos had arrived on the scene.
What were Father Bernardino Soltera & Luisa discussing? Hymie had been killed.
I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review. Only an honest one.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written crime thriller book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great crime thriller movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

I was given an ARC of this, but the opinions stated below are 100 percent mine. Thank you Tony for this opportunity!
This story is not your regular cop-drugs-gang kind of a story, this is way out of that league. I loved how fast the events were going and I could feel the emotions within me from the characters in the story and I felt like I was in the story myself, watching the story unfold. I loved how specifically everything happening was told, and how the writer told the story. I think this story was one of those stories that you can get into very quickly and with the style the writer has written it, you can imagine things happening, like you were in it yourself looking at the story unfolding. I think that this book could not have been written any better, and that it should be a best seller when it's released, because these kind of stories are what we need to our world of literary works. It had some plot twists that I did not except to happen, and the characters were built up so well that I even thought they'd be real (but, unfortunately they're not). I could even say that I can see this book becoming a successful movie.
I normally don't go into a lot of detail regarding the books I review as I feel the author's have usually given enough on the book jackets. I think however Tony's books may just be the exception to the rule.
Detective Evan Parker saw things in One Plus One (Book 3 of the One In A Million Trilogy) that no mortal man should ever really see. Already suffering from PTSD, the death of his partner almost tipped him over the edge. To try and keep focused, he is determined to solve a case his partner left behind, not knowing the can of worms he is about to open...................and so begins The Parker Trilogy.
Father Bernadino Soltera is dying and has his own demons to battle. He needs to find the strength to make one last stand.
Hector Villarosa is the leader of a gang chapter who is not what he seems. He would much rather be reading a good book than talking the talk and walking the walk. He has his own little demon baggage.
As a member of Tony's Advanced Reader Team, I received a copy of this book free in exchange for an honest review. If you haven't read any of Tony's books yet, I highly recommend that you do.
A cop, a priest and the leader of a street gang become engaged in a supernatural battle between good and evil. The cop is dealing with service-related PTSD and the violent death of his partner. The elderly priest must come to terms with a forbidden passion and guilt over the consequences of maintaining the confidentiality of the confessional if he is to help a pregnant teen. Recently released from prison the gang leader must balance his fury over his girlfriend's betrayal and the insubordination of a member covetous of his position with the reality of missed opportunities. There is both menace and manipulation as well as guidance and redemption from the supernatural realm.
I enjoyed this book. The quandaries of the protagonists are believable and the supernatural elements add intrigue.b It was an engrossing and entertaining read. I wasn't crazy about the "stay tuned for the next edition" ending, but overall a satisfying and rewarding read.
This was my First book by Tony Faggioli and I don't normally jump into a middle of a series but "Another One" was definitely worth it! It's one of those books that make you think about what people around you might be going through. It a suspenseful tale of a Priest who is losing his faith,a gangster who wants to be more and a veteran police detective who recently lost his partner and is afraid he's losing his grip. While so different these characters are very human and are struggling against supernatural odds. You'll cheer, you'll cry and you'll definitely look behind you to make sure there isn't anything following you around, just out of slight! I'd highly recommend this book and I'm now going back to the beginning while I wait for the next book!
I gave this 4 stars because it ended in mid scene. I now have to buy the next book and probably the next to get to the finale. Otherwise this was a slow but effective buildup for three characters headed for an inevitable clash. I like the supernatural blended in a believable way in an environment so violent it must evoke prayers to the heavens, sincere or not, many times daily. I like that the most wicked character was a book lover it figured he was a Hemingway fan. I liked the surprising twist Father Soltera reveals at the end. I still want to get deeper into Parker’s character. I will now have to invest more time and money to do that. Oh, well, it will be worth it. 🤞🏻
Tony Faggioli has done it again! Having devoured and loved The Fasano Trilogy and The Snowglobe, I was looking forward to this one immensely. I love the style of this author, and the characters he has created. He has such a captivating imagination that holds me completely. Dark and frightening at times, yet also able to instill a sense of calm at certain times. I love the appearances of characters I've already met in other stories, and how they fit here into this story. I am now a massive fan of Tony Faggioli, and will look forward to reading the rest of Parker's story and every other story that he writes.
Dive into a world that I can guarantee is not a cookie cutter version of the genre. I enjoyed the multiple characters and following each one. I liked the fact that we had a variety of characters with different lives, yet they were intertwined and had similarities too. I personally liked the fact that this novel is not predictable. You get a lot of clues throughout the novel about where the story is going, what secrets are being hidden, etc. But it really does take you a good part of the novel to put everything together. Kudos to Tony Faggioli for managing to keep the mystery alive in his novel.
Tony Faggioli has done a great job with creating characters the reader will feel strongly about. Maybe not always a good kind of strong, but evoking emotion in the reader is good regardless.
We get a feel for the characters, the world, and the situations they are in and why. There are a lot of questions throughout the novel and I think Faggioli does a great job of making sure loose ends are tied up before the novel is done.
The Author's writing style is very direct. There is no skirting around things.
I really enjoyed this book! It's biting honesty when it came to understand ing the gang life..the reality of it...Was something I never thought a lot about....the father and his guilt rang true to my (Yup! Grew up Catholic) knowledge of and feelings of being raised with Catholicism. Not much of a fan of guilt..so reading about his (perceived) shortcomings angered me. From the cops point of view...well..I admire their grit! Read the book....you'll glad you did. Thanks Tony!
This is a book that so profoundly illustrates the never ending battle of good and evil, I'm almost without the words to explain it. If you are not moved by this book, you may want to check your pulse. Tony Faggioli has the ability to see beyond the daily mundane moments of this life to a plane where evil is conquered by a desire to make the world safe. I hope I can make the right choice when confronted by the evil in this world.
This is a very character driven novel and I love the fact that Faggioli gave us both characters to root for and dislike.
My favorite part of this novel was the fact that along the way you don't know what is going to come next. There were many surprises and the way that the author was able to keep the pacing just right really helps everything flow naturally.
There is a darker element to the novel that I loved. I also really enjoyed the authenticity of the crime element.
Superb writing from Tony Faggioli and a action packed story. There were a lot of moving a parts to this one and I really liked the originality that Faggioli brought. This novel was very vivid in the descriptions, the writing really jumped off the pages and into my head. Suspense and Mystery laced throughout. I felt like I got a solid understanding of the characters in the story. There was definitely a lot of action going on that will have readers flipping pages furiously.
Tony Faggioli writes a taut story about gang members , revenge and redemption. Does the devil really walk the earth? A Supernatural Crime Thriller weaves good and evil, the gang members, a Priest and the police through several love stories. Gripping to the end, you won’t want to put this book down. Like me, you will want to see what happens next in The Parker Trilogy Book 2. Recommended to those not feint of heart.
I was very excited to see this series continue beyond the trilogy, I love the author's creativity and story telling. I thoroughly enjoyed the first three books, and the same goes for Another One, and though it is part of the same series the plot line is fresh and quite different but building on the characters we know, and their stories. Keep it coming.
A nail-biter with characters like Parker and Hector and fathers ortelee. Very interesting read that keeps you on up until the late hours of the night with Breakneck speed it switches back and forth from gangsters to Cops to priest to drug dealers. It also features Supernatural characters that curl your hair.
A really good start to a trilogy of books. Kept me gripped moist of the time but sometimes felt like I was drifting off with a little bit of boredom. Once I got past that, I really started to enjoy it again.
I look forward to reading the next book and learning more about the characters.
Unlike the first trilogy, I went to the whole book without understanding where this is going. There are three stories happening at once and no idea how they intertwine excepto when tha characters for two of those stories are found in the same place all the way to the end. Too complicated and too detail. At some.points I felt.like I was reading a self help book instead of a story.
Poor Parker always getting himself into trouble. Great story, fast paced and really hard to put down. Well developed characters, vivid descriptions and a few demons thrown in for good measure
What started out as a atypical inner city gang novel soon throws other realms of good and evil and soulsearching into the story. Page turner . On to book two for me
This book kept you guessing from the beginning. Kind of sad the description of Hectors life and how kids get into these gangs. A little bizarre with the spirit world.but very entertaining.
The story is told from three people's point of view. Father Soltera, Detective Parker and Hector. The three views are at odds and what happens when they meet forms an explosive story which was enjoyable. Great read.
Awesome gripping story that doesn’t let go until the end. Detective Evan is troubled by the shooting Death of his partner. What a plot to this amazing story.
