Katama Bay #9

Sailing Home

Rate this book
A sailing adventuress embarks on a gorgeous journey through the Caribbean. When tragedy strikes, she finds an unlikely home at the Katama Lodge on Martha's Vineyard.

Elsa's eldest, Cole Steel, is on the brink of the rest of his life. Like his father before him, he's a remarkable sailor— but unlike his father, he has no wife, no children, and just the open ocean at his feet.

Elsa's not entirely pleased with his reckless nature. But she knows he has the same adventurous spirit his father always had. Aiden lives through Cole, every day.

Recently, Cole signed a contract to sail professionally. It's the opportunity of a lifetime— with a caveat. His boss is widely known as the toughest in the business. Other sailors who've worked beneath her have fled home, saying they can't take the heat.

That boss? Her name is Whitney Silverton. She's known nothing but sailing since she was a smart-aleck little kid, growing up on her father's docks in the Florida Keys. She’s the best of the best, and everyone knows it.

That is until this September, when a storm threatens to swallow her, her boat, and her brand-new mentee, Cole Steel, whole.

She was always a fearless woman— a woman who'd stared death in the face numerous times and laughed.

But for whatever reason, this particular storm breaks her. She's frightened of the water, of herself, and of the only thing she's ever really loved— sailing.

Sensitive, like his mother Elsa, Cole suggests that Whitney take refuge in one of the most beautiful places in the world: the Katama Lodge and Wellness Spa, where his mother, aunts, and step-grandmother work to strengthen the bodies and minds of struggling women from around the globe.

Whitney is hesitant.

But if she agrees to a brief stint at the Katama Lodge— her life very well might change forever.

Dive into book nine of The Katama Bay Series, a heartwarming journey of motherly and sisterly love, healing, and promise for better days, all on the island of Martha's Vineyard, with its gorgeous ocean views, its endless summer days, and its bubbly cast of islanders.

Be prepared…you’re going to need LOTS of tissues when you read this absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful story by Katie Winters. I cried all the way through the book. The storyline is awesome; the characters so beautifully built; the plot twists and turns are really interesting; and while there isn’t a conventional HEA, what we have is so wondrously hopeful…you have to smile through your tears! Don’t miss this book— it’s so amazing. Grab you copy today! (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and absolutely loved it!) ❤️❤️❤️

I was confused when I started reading about Whitney - who was this wonderfully independent woman sailor? Once I realized Cole was going to be part of her story - it made more sense. I truly loved the introduction of this character and seeing how she is struggling with a breakup, tremendous loss, and trying to figure out how and what she wants to do was very moving. When Whitney is standing on Katama Bay and feeling the cold water on her toes - I knew Katie Winters would have more for us on her metamorphosis. I also was kind of shocked with the ending - Cole and a girl? And that specific girl - have to read to find out. Can't wait for the next one.

Female sailing expert Whitney Silverton sails the Caribbean. Raised by a single father she enjoys her time on the sea. Her relationship with her father has been different after his marriage to Liz. Whitney meets up with Cole Remington on a big race. She convinces Cole to take a private sailing job with her

A private 28 day trip comes to a crashing end after Whitney learns devastating news about her father.

Whitney has trouble dealing with her feelings and depression. Cole offers her time at the Katama Bay Resort. The Remington family embraces her trying to help the healing.

Thank you to the author for the ARC. This review is my honest opinion.

Katie Winter’s books are like the Calgon, take me away commercial! I am totally entrenched in the story with no worries and a feeling of euphoria, and Sailing Home does not disappoint! Don’t mistake this to mean her characters do not struggle with heartache, tragedy, and loss. However with family, friends, kindness, and love, they survive! Great story in a different environment but always returning to Martha’s Vineyard!

Adventure on the Caribbean

Enjoyed this book! Whitney was a strong, independent and experienced sailor who won a big Regatta in the Caribbean. Cole was in awe of her and they became friends. But she had emotional problems too. A terrible breakup and losing her Dad took a toll on her. Cole helped her through a harrowing experience and invited her to Martha's Vineyard to heal.

Sailing Home is book 9 in the Katama Bay series by Katie Winters and while the book starts in the Caribbean we end up back in Katama Bay.

Meeting Whitney and learning how she survives sailing competitively, meeting Cole, losing her father and all the repercussions that happen makes for an interesting read.

Feelings of loss, depression, trying to find her way in life, family, friendship and more…

It took me a little while to get into this book. The overall story was sad and at time heartbreaking. Whitney suffered a terrible loss and lost her way. With the good folks of Katama Bay, her future has hope.
