This is a Romance, and this is the fourth book in the Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws series. I have read and reviewed the first three books in this series before picking this book up. I liked parts of this book, but there was parts that was not my favorite. I feel that the characters could have been more developed, and I felt the romance was rush and went way to fast. I love a good fast pace romance, but I really feel this book more way to fast. I did love the ending. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Desire) or author (Brenda Jackson) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Thrilled to be back with the Outlaw/Westmoreland Clans. This is the fourth book in The Outlaw series. Senator Jessup Outlaw noticed Paige Novak years ago, but he was in pursuit of a Senator seat and didn't want or need any distractions. Paige is an actress who has linked up with an arrogant narcissistic snake named Kemp Pierson. Kemp cheats on Paige and because they are both actors it is leaked to the media.
Jess and Paige are both invited to Russell Vineyards for Chardonnay's grandparents 75th wedding anniversary allowing them the perfect opportunity to discover what is between them. Will those previous sparks finally ignite?
I love catching up with the other members of the clan. It was nice of Ms. Jackson to mention Delaney, Cole, Quade, Bane and Dare.
I've been reading about The Westmoreland for over 10 years and will continue. Obviously, I do highly recommend.
The audiobook narrator Leon Nixon performance was great. I listened to the audio on Hoopla and read along on my kindle.
Thank you to Harlequin/Harlequin desire for the opportunity to read and review this book.
What Happens on Vacation is a hot and enjoyable read! But what else would one expect from Brenda Jackson? I'm still as in love with her stories as I was back when she first blew on the scene as the first Woman of Color romance author. Thank you, Ms. Jackson for clearing the path so others like me can follow.
I have owned this book for years and hadn’t read it until now, and I’m so sorry I didn’t. This one was true to form and great just like the other Outlaw books have been. I love the fact that the love interest was Paige, I love all the tie-ins and family history involved. Great book. Can’t wait to read the next one in the series.

It was a decent book. The constant talk of how much money the family had, for example all of them had planes and villas. They also didn't talk like normal people in my opinion. They talked more like Shakespeare's time. It was weird, too. A few phrases were repetitive. It's a good read if you want to just burn some time otherwise no.
Not the best from Ms. Jackson. The story was rushed. More backstory was needed on both characters. The ending was so predictable, boring, and rushed. This is one of my favorite authors but this book just did not do it for me.
Another Westmoreland/Outlaw bites the dust though he doesn't fight it. Senator Jess Outlaw is ready for a break from his Senate duties, so he heads to California to stay at his cousin's winery. There he reconnects with Paige Novak, another cousin's sister-in-law. Paige, a Hollywood actress, is between films and also avoiding the fallout from her breakup with a fellow actor.
Paige and Jess have known each other for six years. When they met, Paige developed quite a crush on Jess and hoped to draw his attention. Jess was equally interested in Paige but was deep in his campaign for senator. He decided to bury his feelings and concentrate on his career plans. He soon regretted his decision. Whenever they met after that, one or the other was tied up in a project, or most recently, Paige was in a relationship. When Jess finds out she's free; he figures it's finally his time.
Paige is more than a little frustrated. She broke things off with her boyfriend, Kemp, when she found out he was sleeping with another actress. Kemp acts like this is just a blip in their relationship, and they'll be back together shortly. Besides the utter disrespect he'd shown her, she had already planned to end things with him. His actions had simply sped up the process. Paige plans to ignore the fuss for as long as possible, but then her sister brings up her place as a role model.
When Jess and Paige meet again, the sparks are undeniable. Jess wants nothing more than to make his move on Paige but believes her to be hurting from her breakup. Meanwhile, Paige remembers Jess's apparent disinterest at previous meetings and thinks she is alone in her attraction. When Jess learns of her predicament, he offers himself as proof she's moved on. Though a little wary, Paige can't deny herself a chance to spend time with Jess.
I loved watching the development of their relationship. Foremost is Jess's desire to show Paige how he feels. I loved the protectiveness that led him to make the offer in the first place. He makes his opinion of Kemp quite clear, and his respect and admiration for Paige are evident. Jess's statement to the reporters is nothing but the truth though Paige doesn't realize it and thinks he's playing a part. I enjoyed Jess's plans for their time together - have fun, experience new things, and be together. It doesn't take long for the sparks between them to burst into flame. The chemistry between them is explosive, and they enjoy every minute.
I loved seeing them get to know each other, sharing conversations about things large and small. I especially liked seeing them talk about the things most important to them. I liked the fun they had together, from hot-air ballooning to bike riding. It was easy to see their feelings for each other grow deeper though neither took that first step to express them. Then trouble arrived in the form of Paige's ex. I wanted to shake Jess for being an idiot and allowing his past to influence what he should have known. Thank goodness for younger brothers who keep their wits about them. Meanwhile, Paige sets Kemp straight in a scene that had me laughing out loud as I read it. Jess had his work cut out for him to make things right with Paige, but he succeeded beautifully in an emotional scene.
The epilogue was well done, addressing questions about what comes next for Jess and Paige. I also enjoyed seeing a few other family members and catching up on their lives. Seeing the children of the older members grown-up gives me hope for Westmorelands: The Next Generation.
I am happy to report that the fourth book in the Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws series is just as addictive as the books that came before it. It's fun, sweet, sexy, and the perfect weekend read. For the record, I know this because I curled up with a cup of tea, my reading blanket, and my Kindle to devour it in one sitting. Ah, to spend every moment just like that . . .
After missing his chance with Paige Novak years earlier, Jessup Outlaw plans to make the most of his second chance when he encounters her while on vacation in Napa Valley. Jess's need for Paige is matched by his determination to give her the best of himself while also giving her space to recover from a broken heart. His thoughtfulness in planning their time together made my heart fall fast for the Senator from Alaska. And his attentiveness to her wants and needs? Oh my. Swoony and sexy.
Like all Brenda Jackson heroines, Paige holds her own against the forceful alpha personality of Jess, and in no time at all, I was girl-crushing on her hard. Do I want to be friends with her? Yes, please. We stan a woman who doesn't sit back and let life happen but rather sits up and takes back the narrative.
WHAT HAPPENS ON VACATION is an easy, enjoyable read with plenty of steam, an abundance of Westmoreland goodness, a glimpse at the next Outlaw male up for grabs (Maverick—I want it), and a couple who earn and deserve their HEA. What I wouldn't give to go on vacation with them.
Jess and Paige have known each other in passing for six years. When both are on vacation at the same place they reconnect. I love this authors books but for some reason I struggled to get through this one. You could feel the chemistry jumping off the page when they were close. That made the book!
Senator Jessup Outlaw could use a vacation and he is delighted when he runs into Hollywood star, Paige Novak. She needs to get out of the spotlight after a very public breakup. She has always been attracted to Jess and jumps at the chance for a vacation fling and a pretend relationship. What she doesn't know is that Jess isn't acting at all and is glad to finally have the chance to explore a relationship with Paige.
Brenda Jackson always delivers on the heat and the chemistry! This one has been brewing and it was fun to see these two get together. It wasn't my absolute fave but Brenda Jackson is a master at writing series romance. I want more and more of these stories!
A Westmoreland book is a “must read”. Ms Jackson has added some more cousins, The Outlaws. What Happens on Vacation is Senator Jess Outlaws story. The opportunity of a “re-do” with Paige Novak has presented itself and the handsome Alaskan did not risk the chance of repeating the mistake of letting it get away.
A vacation fling is just want Paige wants and needs to transition out of a dead relationship.
This story was a smooth easy read. Jess and Paige making up for lost time and causing a media frenzy while doing it. You will not be disappointed to spend some time with this book.
Thanks to Netgalley, Harlequin, and Brenda Jackson for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
In Brenda Jackson’s What Happens on Vacation..., Westmoreland Legacy: The Outlaws 4, Alaskan senator Jessup Outlaw finally explores the explosive chemistry between him and Hollywood star Paige Novak. Both are in Napa Valley for vacation at the same time. Their attraction/chemistry has been intense since their first meeting six years ago. Paige flirted with him, making her interest known. But Jess didn’t act on his feelings because the timing hadn’t been right with him needing to stay focused on his senatorial campaign. He's satisfied with his career, and after years of regrets, he’s finally ready to act on his attraction to Paige. So, Jess takes advantage of a ruse as Paige’s fake boyfriend and seduces her. Hopefully, he won’t miss his chance with her if he gets one this time.
I love romances where the characters like each other but don’t realize their feelings are mutual for reasons. Despite finding Jess irresistible, Paige believes he’s not interested in her because he’s ignored her flirting and never responded in kind. Jackson also includes a touch of my favorite tropes—fake dating and friends to lovers! Paige is a thoroughly likable character. Sweet, beautiful, intelligent, straightforward, and kind, but not a pushover, she knows what she wants and doesn't play games. It’s fantastic how together and mature Paige is and that Jess is the one here who’s a hot mess! Jess is a stubborn, honorable, handsome man still haunted by a past betrayal who cannot/won’t get out of his own way. It took Jackson a while to get his head straight and pursue Paige, but when he finally decides to go for it, he’s all in.
I love Jackson’s writing style, featuring vibrant narrative flow, natural-sounding lively dialogue, steady pacing, and deft characterizations. Jackson wonderfully develops Paige, Jess, and their relationship with sweet, emotional, steamy, flirty, and heat-filled interactions. While the novel's primarily a steamy romance with a bit of angst, Jackson does include bits of humor and incredibly hilarious scenes that kept me laughing long after I finished reading.
The novel is free of unnecessary drama, except for moments that made me want to hurt Jess for being ridiculous. Fans of Jackson’s Westmorelands and Outlaws series will enjoy catching up with how their favorite characters are doing. Reading this one and hearing about all the other characters made me interested in starting at the beginning of the series and diving in because I'm not sure whether I have read any yet? But they are on my TBR.
What Happens on Vacation... is a steamy, sweet, and sexy read about taking risks to find love and happiness and choosing your own path.

:| I just ... I like Jess Outlaw and vaguely remember Paige Novak [although I think the last time I saw her in a book she was just a kid?] ... I think I've only read/listened to the first Outlaw book?
I get there's that whole theme thing but the whole "what happens on vacation" as a stand in for Vegas was a bit forced. And ... Paige - I liked that she wouldn't let people push her around; although she is ... I don't want to say PASSIVE but she doesn't want to deal with press. What did bother me was how shitty her agent was to her. Like - obviously I don't know Hollywood, but ... it just seems if you've got work - and clearly she's being cast in things; and/but your agent is berating you, making you continue to stay in a relationship - "relationship" where you're being disrespected - like ... that's not an agent so much as an [abusive] handler. I kinda wish she'd have told her agent to fuck all the way off.
There were of course some eyeroll parts - the "hot romantic entanglement" like 🙄 who talks like that.
But - otherwise - Brenda Jackson is seriously magical at writing category romances. You know what you're going to get, but also not, and each one is the same but different and seriously. I just can't. She's amazing at the genre and OBVIOUSLY people keep coming back for more and I think she recently said she's written over 130 books?
And I DO like Jess and Paige - even the "dark moment" and man I was SO PISSED at Jess. Like AYFKM - at least it wasn't as bad as I feared/stuff got sorted out - and it wasn't forced conflict/misunderstanding. Which I really appreciated.
I guess... C - - - ?
I do love me a smitten hero. AND I think it was fun that Paige had actually had a crush on Jess and she'd actually kinda tried to approach HIM first [six years ago?] when they first met.
So many Westmorelands and Outlaws. Heh. And it was fun to revisit with the other characters too/their cameos.
**thank you the publisher for the opportunity to read/review.
I have to say I'm on the fence with this addition to the Outlaws story.
A missed opporunity by Jess years ago opens up again when Paige needs him to play as her new boyfriend. After a nasty break up and a ex who refuses to catch a clue, Hollywood actress Paige Novak takes her long time crush up on his offer to be the new love in her life. When old feelings start to emerge, both Jess and Paige fall easily and hard.
It was nice to visit the Outlaws again as they are a easy bunch to latch onto. But with WHOV, I felt like we got too much over explaining of previous characters from previous series and their spots in the Westmoreland/Outlaw world. And don't get me wrong, I am a huge advocate of authors giving us background especially if we're starting off in the middle of a series but here, it was to much..
Also, with all this over explaining kind of took away from Jess and Paige's connection on page. Some of that time could have been used to give us a deeper look into them as characters and as a emerging couple in the series. All and all, I would have liked more of their story on page and the ending just felt a bit rushed and not fully fleshed ou
I am still looking forward to the other stories in this series especially their daddy's (Barts ol mean ass). If you are a fan of the Westomoreland/Outlaw series, then I say check this one out.
I’ve been a fan of the Westmoreland series, this is first of the Outlaw cousins series I’ve read and it was eh. Doubt I’ll read another after reading this one. Paige and Jess were not well fleshed out. Throwing in that they met 6 years prior doesn’t help with their lightening speed to in love with each other that felt way too fast and absolutely forced. It’s a short book so having to get there faster I guess could been seen, but the insta-love was not believable. That Paige didn’t bring up their prior meeting and what she thought then was not believable. The dense act assigned to what should have been a smarter woman had me thinking less of Paige. The unnecessary added in drama with Jess finding Paige’s ex in her cottage was BORING and absolutely shameful to have been written. Paige just leaves her ex in her cottage when he shows up uninvited? Just because he looked exhausted? And? He had a hotel room he could shower and catch a nap in. NOT believable. At. All. Definitely should have left the deplorable cliche scenario OUT. The ex showing up, okay. Sent on his way and Jess catching that would have been a million times better.
This story moved really quickly. It seemed like the fact that Jess and Paige were attracted to one another SIX years ago was the explanation for how fast they became a real couple now.
Maybe it felt rushed to me because I was told what they did, but got to experience very little of it unless they were having xes. All that yelling out each others name was a bit much. I would have rather had more details on the hot air balloon experience or the dog sledding.
I wanted to see them get to know one another, see them interact with other people, etc. There was a lot of talk about family in this book which I liked. I thought that if this happened to be the first book a person picked up, they might be overwhelmed with all of the family members and family ties mentioned.
This book presumes that the reader is knowledgeable about this author's work as opposed to being a possible new reader of her work.
I missed a couple of books before in this series. I would recommend before reading about the Outlaws that a reader start with some of the earlier Westmoreland books .
What Happens on Vacation.....I enjoyed this book. It was exciting and romantic. Jess Outlaw finally decided to go on vacation. He decided to take his cousin, Spencer, up on his offer to come to Napa Valley. Little did he know that Paige, sister to his other cousin, Dillon was going to be there. He had a crush on her the first time he met her six years ago. Now he felt like he might get another chance with her now that she dumped her Hollywood actor boyfriend. She dumped Kemp when she found out he was screwing another woman. To show the world she moved on, Paige and Jess decided to act like they were lovers and be seen together. It worked until Kemp came around trying to get Paige back. Only it backfired on Kemp and Paige and Jess realized they were in love with each other. This is a great read!
After finding out her boyfriend cheated on her in the most public way possible Paige needs to get away from the media frenzy and his attempts to say they are still a couple by visiting family at the vineyard they own. She didn’t expect that Jess would be there or that we would offer to pretend they were together to show everyone that she isn’t about to return to her ex.
Jess is a politician who met Paige six years ago and they were attracted to each other however he never pursued it as between their careers and her relationship there was always something in the way. When they find themselves spending their vacation together their pretend relationship starts to feel real but is it a fling or the beginning of forever?
The chemistry and connection between them was never in question but it was only when they trusted each other with their hearts and their emotions that they realized what they truly meant to each other.
Listened to audiobook. Book was okay but I was not feeling how the boyfriend acted and used Paige for his personal gain and Paige’s agent encouraged it. In swoops Jess Outlaw who has had a crush on Paige for awhile but never acted on it due to being busy with his campaign and being a senator. Paige also had a crush on Jess unbeknownst to him. Their paths crossed at several family functions but that was about it until the scandal with actress Paige and her movie star boyfriend. Jess agrees to help her out and fake a relationship in order to get the cocky movie star man off Paige’s back. But pretending doesn’t sit well with the heart. Great story about love for one of the remaining single Outlaw brothers and a Novak sister.
Brenda Jackson gives us another hot, sizzling story about the Westmorelands/Outlaws.
Alaskan senator Jessup Outlaw goes to Napa Valley for some rest and relaxation where he once again sees Hollywood star Paige Novak. They are both looking for some quiet time with family. Paige really needs some quiet time away from the media. Jess gives her an escape by letting the media see them as a couple on vacation. The hot chemistry between the two is explosive. Once this vacation comes to end will the romance continue?
Kudos to the Empress of Black Love for this engaging story of another Outlaw sibling and the woman who wins his heart! Senator Jessup Outlaw and Paige Novak are the couple highlighted in this series, Westmoreland Legacy:The Outlaws. There are a couple of genius connections that are weaved into the tight storyline. The first one is Paige Novak is the sister of Pamela Novak Westmoreland. Pam married Dillion Westmoreland (WESTMORELAND’S WAY) when Paige was a teen. In this story some time has passed , and Paige is an up and coming Hollywood actress. Ironically, she and Jess met six years ago, but they were. both concentrating on their careers. Timing wasn’t right. When the story opens, in need of some rest and relaxation from their busy careers, they accidentally meet at Russell Vineyards, the second connection that the prolific Ms Jackson makes. Russell Vineyards is owned by Spencer Westmoreland and Chardonnay Russell Westmoreland (SPENCER’S FORBIDDEN PASSION). I loved this story. It is my favorite so far of the Outlaw series. The Westmorelands and the Outlaws are in full effect as Jess and Paige journey to their HFN. Watch out for Kemp Pierson., the proverbial “fly in the ointment”. WHAT HAPPENS ON VACATION…. is an engaging and entertaining story. I highly recommend it!
Fabulous fourth installment in the Outlaw series! Brenda Jackson did a great job writing this book of unrequited love between two people with Westmoreland connections by blood and by love.
Senator Jess Outlaw is the knight actress Paige Novak needs to brighten her vacation blues. The chemistry is off the charts with this hero/ herione couple. Looking for a quick sweet romance with humor, adventurous dates, and sexy love scenes What Happens on Vacation is your book. Five wine glasses worthy🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷 in honor of the Napa Valley setting.
Brenda Jackson has done it again, this is the 4th book in the series and it didn’t disappoint. This is Jess’s story. He knows Paige from family gatherings and was smitten at first sight. They ended up at the same place for vacation, her ex had an affair and Paige broke off the relationship. The ex told press they would get back together. Paige and Jess decided to fake a relationship to avoid the media scrutiny but ended up falling in love with each other. It’s a beautiful love story with great characters. Fantastic epilogue.
Paige and Jess' Vacation Love Tryst! 4.25***** Spoiler Alert!
Paige, famous actress out of love with cheating actor Kemp, reconnected with Senator Jess Outlaw after they met six years earlier, at the start of Their respective careers. Their vacation was one of learning about each other and confessing their love for each other. Kemp got egg on his conceited, presumptive face. Definitely HEA!
Amazing plot with sensual sex scenes and well-fleshed out characters. The theme of a time for everything flowed through this novel. A Must-Read!
I’m always excited to read a Brenda Jackson book and catch up with the amazing Westmoreland/Outlaw men. Add in a fake age-gap romance and it’s truly an enjoyable party. Jess Outlaw fumbled his chance of a relationship with Paige years ago, so when the opportunity presents itself to act as her love interest after a very public breakup, he makes the decision to go all in. I loved that Jess didn’t fight the feelings he had for Paige and wasn’t afraid to admit that he wanted her to be permanent in his life. However, I would’ve appreciated more developed characters and fleshed out scenes. While I did enjoy how the story ended, it would’ve been next level if we could’ve witnessed the trip Jess and Paige took to Alaska on page. I enjoyed catching up with Spencer, Chardonnay and all the other Westmorland family members. I can’t believe that everyone is grown and I look forward to the new generation of the Westmorland family and a continuation of the Outlaw Dynasty series.
Jess and Paige story was very enjoyable. Jess thought he missed an opportunity six years earlier to be with Paige when he was running for Senator of Alaska. Six years they meet at Spenser and his wife's winery. Sparks fly; however, Paige has a conceited, cheating ex who will not except no to their relationship. Drama, drama, drama begins. Liked the ending chapters. I enjoy author Jackson's books.
Loved this story. Paige Novak and Jess Outlaw had met six years ago. Each was doing other things so they never got to really talk or date each other. Paige went to stay in NAPA for a much needed vacation. She also wanted to get away from drama associated with a now ex boyfriend who was caught with another woman. Jess Outlaw went to visit the same friends for a long overdue vacation. He was very happy to see Paige. They finally got a chance to date and to get to know one another.
