Sure, she was a jerk for calling me that, but isn’t that what friends were for? Only a real friend insulted you to your face, but would stick a horn up your enemy’s butt for even looking at you funny.


"Isn’t that how all men want to go?" Suli questioned.
I ignored her.
Jack pressed a kiss to my forehead. “I’ll do whatever needs to be done if it will ease your pain.”
"How very noble of him." Suli snorted so hard she started choking.
I continued to ignore her.
The soft brush of his lips was enough to send another pulse of magic through me, damaging the walls I had erected to confine it. It’s not the only thing about to get erected. I was going to learn how to block my mind as soon as we got back home. That’s assuming I didn’t buy a farm tonight and become a root inspector.
"You aren’t going to die," Suli assured me. "Unless you keep talking about it instead of doing it."
