ENTRUSTED

The feisty enemy princess, the cunning knight holding her captive, and the ultimate battle that will determine their fate.

Hoping to minimize the death and destruction of the coming war, Princess Birgitta of Swaine leads the Dark Warriors as part of her brother King Canute’s efforts to take the throne of Norvegia. As she engages in a skirmish with a band of elite Knights of Brethren, she’s kidnapped by Kristoffer Prestegard, a cunning warrior.

While searching for the holy lamp that can help defeat the Dark Warriors, Kristoffer realizes that Swaine has already seized the ancient relic. Since King Canute is fiercely protective of his sister, Kristoffer offers to return Princess Birgitta in exchange for the coveted holy lamp.

While trying to keep his feisty prisoner from escaping, Kristoffer learns that his father and uncle have set in motion a scheme that would give him the kingship of Norvegia. Where will Kristoffer’s loyalties lie, and how will he choose sides without losing everything, including the princess he’s grown to love?

The real story of the Holy Lamp continues . . .

What an amazing conclusion to this wonderful and entertaining series! I was completely captivated from the opening scene until the last page. I recently read Enflamed and loved it, but I think Entrusted is even better.

Birgitta and Kristoffer are great, likable characters. They are both strong and noble, dedicated and loyal to family and country. They also have a lot of integrity and a strong moral compass. Therein lies the struggle for both of them… Do they act in a way that pleases those whom they love, even when those loved ones are currently misguided, or do they make some painful sacrifices and chose to please Providence?

I loved the themes of choices we must each make in life, the power of light over darkness, the need to constantly keep that light within us, and that selfless sacrifice and service brings the blessings of God.
The writing is excellent, the story is action packed and fast paced, and the romance between the MCs was sweet and clean, but had a lot of sizzle to it.

This is a fun, clean, and engaging YA fantasy series that I would feel very comfortable recommending to readers of all ages.

Absolutely Amazing!!! This was an excellent conclusion to a series I have come to love so much! I don’t know how Jody Hedlund does it but each book in this series was extremely well written and had the aspects I’ve enjoyed throughout all 6 books of this medieval fairytale, Fast paced action, well developed characters, and breath taking clean romance!

In Entrusted we get Kristoffer’s story with Princess Brigitta. I loved the forced proximity, enemies to lovers, arranged marriage tropes that all weaved together for these two. They fell in love quickly but it completely worked and was so believable. These two gave me all the feels and I could picture the way Kristoffer looked at her so clearly. Jody is an amazing author and storyteller!

It was great getting to the visit the other Knights of Brethren again and have their stories wrap up as they move into the future with their wives from the previous books. The ending was so satisfying but also left things open for another possible series which I really hope comes to be because I am so sad to see this one end! The Knights of Brethren has made my summer and is on my reread list!
Definitely a favorite that I highly recommend to teens and adults. I will be passing this on to my daughters and the books will have a special place on my shelf.

There's just something about a medieval story that draws me in. Maybe it is the code of knights, or the clothing of the women, or all of the horses (I LOVE horses!!!!), or maybe it's the castle. Probably a combination of all of the above and then some. But I love reading medieval stories. Especially when the hero and heroine have great honor and a desire to better life for those around them. And let me tell you, Kristoffer and Princess Birgitta are pretty amazing characters exhibiting these two traits and so much more.

The enemies to more, the close proximity, the banter and quick wit and so much more had me connecting strongly to these two characters. I loved the back and forth of the point of views, being able to know what both of them are thinking and what is guiding them in their actions and course.

I've really enjoyed the books that I read in this series and need to remedy reading all of them. The ones I read had me turning the pages quickly and wanting more and more of the characters, setting and story. I was hooked!

This is the final book and I couldn't be happier with how the author tied everything together and finished the book and series. I was grinning and cheering and just all around happy! I'm hoping there might be some spin off stories/serie(s) from a couple characters mentioned at the end of the book. I would love to see what is in store for them. Namely a couple kings.

I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did if you decide to pick it up. It is part of a series but I enjoyed and was able to understand what was going on when I jumped in on the last couple of books.

Content: Clean. Nothing more than a few kisses. No language.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Jody Hedlund brings her wonderful Knights of Brethren series to a wonderful close with this story, featuring Kristoffer and Birgitta. This has been so great to read this outstanding series set in the medieval era. Hedlund does this genre so well. I was captivated during the entire reading of them all. I was sad to see it end. Truly.

'I had to choose the honorable path, choosing sacrifice over personal gain.'

I certainly hope Hedlund decides to revisit this series. There are a few characters I'd love to see have their own story. Fingers crossed! I highly recommend this series.

My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book. The opinion here is entirely my own.

A captivating read and satisfying conclusion to the Knights of Brethren Series.

A fast paced read, with an engaging plot, strong themes of loyalty and admirable characters.

I loved Brigitta from the beginning and I enjoyed the twist of seeing the building conflict from the other side for the first time. I liked that Brigitta and Kristoffer are both fiercely loyal people, yet they don't let it cloud their knowledge of what is right. And I loved seeing Espen and Kristoffer's friendship again in this book.

I thought that this book did a great job of expanding the world of the series with a glimpse into Swaine, Canute, and the dark warriors. Though the final installment in what has been a fantastic series, it did leave the door open for future books connected to the series, which I definitely hope is picked up on. You won't want to miss the thrilling and romantic conclusion to the Knights of Brethren.

Every time Jody Hedlund writes a new story, I think I have a new favorite book of hers. Entrusted is a wonderfully thrilling conclusion to her Knights of Brethren series, one that will captivate and inspire readers. I absolutely loved Kristoffer and Birgitta, and it was lovely to see all the Knights together again. There have been a few hints about a companion series, which I am praying comes to fruition. I highly recommend all of Jody’s books, and her young adult novels are just as impressive and enthralling as her others. Don’t miss out! 5/5 stars

“As much as I might begin to appreciate and respect Princess Birgitta, I couldn’t forget she was still my enemy and would never be more than that to me.”

What an amazing conclusion to a favorite series! I’m honestly sad to see it end and hope that Jody Hedlund continues with a possible spin off series. I loved Kristoffer and Birgitta! Enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and this book really brings out that sizzling underlying attraction that lurks underneath a fun battle of wills. It neatly wraps up the Knights of Brethren series in a believable, powerful, romantic way. There’s also inspirational messages of brotherhood, compassion, and doing what’s right even when seemingly impossible.

I loved both Birgitta and Kristoffer. They are both noble people with noble goals and aspirations. They want to do what’s best for their people, but are on opposite sides of a war neither wants. When Kristoffer takes Birgitta prisoner as a way to bargain for the holy lamp and hopefully end the war, the sparks fly. Each is determined to outwit the other and that’s where the excitement begins. Kristoffer decides to chain himself to Birgitta to prevent her escape, and this provides some swoon worthy, tension filled moments. Sharing a horse, Kristoffer reciting Latin verbs to keep his thoughts clean while in Birgitta’s presence, one bed scenario, a forced wedding, and plenty of intrigue and adventure made this one of my favorite reads of the series!

I don’t want to give away too much detail, so take my word for it, this book and the entire series is amazing for both YA and adults alike. They are all clean reads, with heroes and heroines who inspire and live up to the highest ideals. I loved this book in particular because of the messages woven throughout that while doing the right thing is often hard, it truly pays off in the end. Can’t wait for Jody Hedlund’s next medieval series. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

Such a satisfying conclusion to the series!

I have always been a sucker for an enemies to lovers combined with forced proximity, and I loved the chemistry and banter between Kristoffer and Birgitta. Loved seeing all the characters from the previous books and the conclusion was just perfect!

If you love medieval YA romance with lots of swoon but no spice, this series is for you!

I am sad to see this series end but I am happy with how it ended. I loved how Kristoffer and Birgitta complimented each other so well. They challenged each other to be the best version of themselves that they could be. I loved how they teased each other and drove each other crazy at times but were a perfect match for each other. I enjoyed this book and this series and wish that there were more to read.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors.  A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

A satisfying conclusion to an all-around fun series! This is probably my third favorite of the series (Gunnar's story is my favorite followed by Torvald's).

Now I'll start this off by saying that enemies to lovers is perhaps one of my favorite romantic tropes. I just love the angst it delivers. With that said, while this story was definitely angsty, it was not quite as edgy as I had hoped. Our two intrepid heroes decided pretty quickly they didn't really see each other as enemies despite being on opposing sides and the fact that one was literally imprisoning the other. They behaved more like handcuffed allies than anything. Plus, during Brigitta's time as Kristoffer's prisoner they both shared personal information you probably wouldn't want an enemy to know, like about their family (i.e. their weaknesses that can be used against them later). Also, I'm not entirely sure about how I feel with the way that Brigitta's real status was revealed because it made her look a little stupid for just blurting that out and getting herself captured.

Don't get me wrong, though, I loved their relationship! And their banter was fantastic, they had perhaps the best banter of the whole series. I just think that the beginning part of the whole opposing sides thing could have been better smoothed out.

As a whole, I thoroughly enjoyed this whole series. I do have some unanswered questions which I'm wondering at, especially since it's the last book. Like does Rasmus get brought to justice? Does Gunnar still carry the bleeding curse that he will pass on to his firstborn son? What about the deal Lisbet and Ansgar made about having to give their firstborn to that witchy lady? Is there going to be another series about their children??? I certainly hope so.

The author did hint that there might be a story for Canute as well, and I'm 100% here for that. I didn't think I would like him after reading all the other books, but this one really won him over for me. I'd like to see him get a happy ending.

I received a copy of this book from the author, all opinions, however, are my own.

A fantastic finish to a fabulous series! Each book has been even better than the last as the action grows and the plot deepens. Of course the romance in this novel is just as wonderful as the first five; I loved reading about the growing relationship between the feisty Birgitta and stalwart Kristoffer. I really like how the characters are flawed to make them realistic, but they satisfactorily grow and mature as well. This book grabbed my attention and kept me captured from beginning to end, causing me to read late into the night as I immersed myself into the fascinating, creative world. I really liked how everything from the first five books came together; therefore, although this novel can stand on its own, I highly recommend reading the entire series in order. This book may be marketed to young adults but I promise readers of all ages will greatly enjoy it. Highly recommended!

Yes! This book was just a wonderful conclusion to an amazing series. I have so loved this series and I am so sad to see it end. I am crossing my fingers for a companion series. Entrusted is the sixth and final book in Jody Hedlund’s Knights of Brethren Series. And boy was it worth the wait.
I loved Birgitta. She was an amazing character. She was so strong and stubborn. Birgitta was a princess and raised by her brother. She was fearless and loved her people. Birgitta was unafraid to fight for what she believed in. It was sweet to see this strong woman fall for Kristoffer and learn that she doesn’t always have to be strong. Kristoffer helped Birgitta be herself and didn’t fault her for being different. But Birgitta would have to figure out what she was willing to risk to get the fighting to stop.
Kristoffer was also a great character. It was fun to get to know Kristoffer more. He seemed like such a focused series character, it was cool to get to see a different side of him. Kristoffer was loyal to a fault and he was doing his best to serve his king. He strived to prove himself worthy not only to his king, but also to his father. Kristoffer had to figure out if he was willing to defy his father in order to fight for the greater good.
Kristoffer and Birgitta were a cute couple. They connected with each other right away. It was fun to see them interacting, they had such good banter. They were more of enemies to lovers but they fell quickly. I don’t usually like insta love but I feel as if it fits the book and pace. Kristoffer and Birgitta helped each other be better people and they understood each other.
Entrusted is a wonderful book and I would definitely recommend it! I would recommend this whole series. It does need to be read in order though because the books follow each other. Entrusted was engaging and the characters were wonderful. It was so exciting to see the series come to an end! Entrusted is a clean historical romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

This is the last book in the Knights of Brethren series and, OH. MY. GOODNESS, it is a story that will captivate you and hold you spellbound until the very end!
I have loved all the books in this series and the wonderful way Jody Hedlund writes. She has a magnificent way with words, which help to convey colorful images, sweet dialogues, and fierce battle scenes. This author is one I will choose to read anytime and anywhere. Her stories come to life, and I get lost in them, not wanting to come back to the “real” world.
In this last book, we get to meet Princess Birgitta who is full of spunk and sass! She can hold her own on any battlefield. Then we get to finally see Kristoffer. (The last Knight of Brethren who hasn’t found a match.) He’s a true man of honor and quite a hunk.
The two battle it out not only with swords but also with wit. I loved all their dialogue, banter, fierce emotions, and sweet romance.
This is a spellbinding story about love, honor, friendship, loyalty, and justice. It's also a story about righting wrongs and conquering evil.
In the end, the author did a stunning job of bringing all the past Knights together in one battle to fight together again.
An author who can create a wonderful world that captures your mind and takes you on a journey into the unknown is an author I will read more from. Jody Headline is such an author.
This book had drama, suspense, action, medieval elegance, overwhelming hardship, and sweet romance that will knock your socks off.
I highly recommend picking this book up! It really will keep you captured!
I was given this book by the author which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

DNF on page 177

I was so bored. I did not like Birgitta at all. There was nothing going on. It was just a bunch of crap that didn’t amount to a hill of beans. The will they/won’t they was super annoying. I just wanted something high stakes with a major major battle and with 80ish pages left….there was still no battle. There wasn’t a lot of high stakes. It was all just very…boring.

I hate finishing the series like this because I ADORED books one through five… this one just wasn’t for me unfortunately. 😭😭😭😭😭

The quest for the holy lamp continues as King Canute of Swaine draws ever closer to Norvegia and his intended goal of taking the throne from King Ansgar. Meanwhile, his sister Birgitta falls into the hands of Kristoffer Prestegard, one of the Knights of Brethren. King Ansgar of Norvegia is unaware that Kristoffer’s father and uncle are also plotting against him with the intention of overthrowing him and elevating Kristoffer to the throne. Kristoffer knows nothing of this plot until he arrives at his father’s hunting lodge with the captured princess of Swaine. The holy lamp is believed to have the power to stop the Dark Warriors, who are vicious fighters that have joined King Canute in his effort to take over Norvegia. But who has the lamp? Can Kristoffer find it in time to drive back the Dark Warriors and to keep them from wreaking havoc on Vordinberg? It seems Ansgar is destined to lose the kingdom, while Kristoffer and Birgitta appear trapped no matter which way they turn. With lots of intrigue, great action, and brewing romance, I believe you will enjoy this story. I received an advance copy of this book from the author. This is my honest review. All opinions are strictly my own.

The finale of this series, and clearly it did not disappoint in execution of being adventure packed and spell-binding beginning to end. I think Kristoffer definitely was one of the hardest of the knights to get a sneak preview of in the past 5 books, so enjoyed getting a good glimpse at his true character in Entrusted. The ending was well done in that it left us with enough closure to be satisfied and if any holes were opened they could easily be solved upon reliving the adventures over and over again in the re-reading the series. At the same time the author has left holes open for a reason, possibly a new series of continuation in the future? Only time will tell! The only thing I didn't like about this book was the chaining of Kristoffer to Birgitta. Their love did come quite fast and how could it not them being so close and in intimate situations. Also Stockholm syndrome comes to mind and that isn't a healthy thing to instill in the YA this book was intended for, for anyone for that matter. Besides, Birgitta was written as such a fierce warrior character for what, all of thee 2 chapters? Then she becomes a captive that never fights again. Quite the change in personality, which was a hard change to adjust to, especially when glimpsing the cover everytime I opened the book. This is my honest view of Entrusted. I thank the author for allowing me a free copy, this opinion is my own.

Entrusted
Knights of Brethren #6
By Jody Hedlund

The race to save their country from their neighbor is coming to a close as time has run out. The enemy has crossed their border and has advanced deeper into Norvegia. Kristoffer Prestegard is the last Knight of Brethren with any hope of capturing the holy lamp from Swaine's troops. But what he doesn't realize is that there are other forces at work, forces that are bent on toppling King Ansgar and putting Kristoffer on the throne in his stead.

But Kristoffer's loyalty is to Norvegia and King Ansgar. And he is determined to stop the Dark Warriors, who are aiding King Canute's efforts in taking Norvegia. When he and his squires come face to face with these formidable warriors in the dark of night, Kristoffer never imagined he might come away from the battle with something that could aid him in his quest. Princess Birgitta of Swaine was leading the warriors, holding their blood thirst in check. At least, she was before she became a prisoner.
What follows is a battle of wits and intellect as Kristoffer seeks to prevent his prisoner's escape and Brigitta attempts to lull him into complacency. What neither expected was the spark of attraction to grow between them. Falling in love with the enemy can't happen.

Entrusted is the sixth and final book in the Knights of Brethren series, and it is the definite climax as everything comes together. Will Norvegia withstand the threats, or will she fall as forces within and without conspire against her? As the final book, I can only say, "WOW!" This book was excellent and draws the series to a conclusion that can't be missed. Treachery, betrayal, a kingdom teetering on the brink, and a thoroughly impossible attraction. Yes, Jody Hedlund knows how to weave words so that one enters a world and becomes thoroughly engaged so that when the end comes, one is disappointed that the end has come.

I do recommend reading all the books in the series as they build upon one another. But the immediate predecessor, Enflamed, is an absolute must, as it too deals with the third quest - the search for the holy lamp and focuses on Kristoffer's family, providing needed background for Entrusted. Now I know this series is over, but I would love a companion series that would touch on some of the other characters and what happens to them. That, in my opinion, is the best endorsement of any book or series when you want more from this world.

I was provided a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion, all thoughts expressed are my own.

I did have a few initial concerns about this book. I admit I kind of rolled my eyes when I saw the cover. Not another "warrior woman!"
Warrior women in historical settings are not easy to write convingly these days, because they have become an overused cliche.

There's a tendency for writers to make such characters into a grotesque imitation of the worst excesses of male violence. Agressive, abrasive, arrogant and sometimes downright cruel, or else to give them modern opinions and beliefs: basically making them modern feminists as a justification for thier role.
The other tendency is to write all the other characters as incompetent and useless in combat so the woman looks better and more capable (side eyes Rings of Power...).

Mrs Hedlund actually managed to avoid both of those when she wrote Birgatta. Her involvement in war was actually credible, it wasn't overused in the story to the extent that it overshadowed the rest of the plot. My only minor gripe is that I don't feel Birgatta had much of a motivation or basis for her opinions.
Her parents died when she was young: I get that. I suppose she became a tomboy because her brother effectively raised her, but would they not have had servants or female relatives that they knew or mingled with?

Other than that, though, I think the author did a good job of writing a young woman torn between her loyalty to her family and doing what she left was right. Kristoffer has a similar struggle: his father wants to put him on the throne and depose the King, but he is loyal.
The relationship between the two followed the enemies to lovers trope, but not too closely. Actually, there were as many enemies on Kristoffer's side, and treacherous elements on Birgatta's side forcing them to put aside differences.

Entrusted gave us the story of the final Knight of Brethren and ended the series in satisfying style.
I was part of Jody Hedlund's Review Crew for this title and received an ARC. This did not influence my review and all opinions expressed are my own.

What a book! Author Jody Hedlund knows what her readers want, and she certainly delivers, in this tale of a beautiful but strong princess and a loyal and brave knight who find themselves caught up in a 'take-your-breath-away' romance. Birgitta and Kristoffer have an instant attraction but oh, the perils and danger that they encounter! Will they succeed in finding the Holy Lamp?

Entrusted has amazing characters and an engaging plot, but I was equally impressed with the many nuggets of inspiration woven into its story. I also loved that Hedlund offers glimpses of the five couples from the previous Knights of Brethren books. Entrusted is a thrilling medieval romance and the perfect way to end this series!

I received a complimentary copy from the author but there was no obligation for a positive review.

An absolutely perfect ending to an epic and romantic series, this book was SO good! Oh my gosh, I was completely enraptured reading this book. I didn't even notice the passing of time because the story just pulled me in and I didn't come up until I had finished it in one sitting. I LOVED this story! Honestly, the moment I finished reading, I immediately went and preordered the paperback version.
Kristoffer and Birgitta had the best romantic tension. I love the mix of forbidden romance, enemies to lovers, and even forced marriage/marriage of convenience that were all found in the story. Each character was well-developed and I just could not get enough of their flirtatious banter and actions. There were so many moments that just gave me all the feels and made me smile so big, my cheeks hurt. I don't want to spoil anything, but I will say I will never think of shackles the same. :)
Not only was the romance in this novel on par with the swoony romances I have come to obsess about by Jody Hedlund, but it brought such a great conclusion to the entire series and I really liked how things all wrapped up. The epilogue was flawless and I couldn't have asked for more. Though, I am crossing all my digits in hope that Canute gets a story as well as something futuristic where we see what happens to Ansgar and Lis's daughter.
I can't recommend this book enough. I do encourage reading the other five books in the Knights of Brethren series first (in order) to get the full effect of awesomeness, but this is a complete story in and of itself and maybe my new favorite of a five-star series. I'd give it ten stars if I could.
I received an advance reader copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I did purchase a paperback copy.

Jody Heldund’s Entrusted brings the Knights of the Brethren series to a wonderfully satisfying conclusion. As in other books in this series, Hedlund plunges the reader into the middle of the tales of knights and ladies, kings and evil plotters. I loved the characters of Kristoffer and Birgitta. She is such a strong, feisty heroine and Kristoffer is her match in every way. This story is filled with adventure and passion, The theme of overcoming darkness with light is well developed.
Having read each of the books in this series I can highly recommend the entire series from beginning to end!

If you like political intrigue and grand adventure, then you will enjoy the sixth and final book in the Knights of Brethren series. The main characters, Kristoffer and Birgitta, are trying everything within their spheres of influence to prevent war between their countries. Even to the point of marriage!

Seeing Kristoffer and Birgitta find the good and noble in each other when it would have been much easier to be regarded the other as an enemy showed the depth of their character. Is the conflict resolved peacefully or will they have to go to war? You will have to read the book to find out for yourself.

As always, another fantastic story!
And an amazing finish to a beloved series!

I thoroughly enjoyed Kristoffer and Birgitta's journey! Not only do we get a swoony romance with some amazing forced proximity, (the tension and pining and captor/prisoner trope was excellent!) but we also get adventure and suspense and beautiful lessons of faith and trusting in Providence.
I loved what Kristoffer and Birgitta learned through-out the story and the sacrifices they made; it was hard in the moment, but they trusted and everything worked for their good in the end! 😭❤️

I highly recommend this story!
And while it could be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading the series in order for a better understanding and enjoyment overall! Love these books!!

What a book, y'all. What. A. Book.

I have been eagerly awaiting this book since reading Enflamed, and it did not disappoint. Jody Hedlund knocked it out of the park (again) with Entrusted. It was the perfect ending to the Knights of Brethren series.

Kristoffer and Brigitta had the most perfect enemies to lovers story ever. Even though they were fighting on opposite sides of the war, they were perfect for each other - both of them were loyal, compassionate, and brave while just trying to do what was best for their people. Throw in being chained together and sharing a horse? Yes please.

I loved that the characters from the previous stories also made appearances in this one. It really was the best finale.

These Knights of Brethren are my absolute favorite and I'm sure I'll be rereading all their books again soon. And if you haven't read them yet, go! Quick! Read them all and love them.

Thank you to the author for the early copy; all thoughts are my own.

I liked this one so much more than book 5!

I once again liked both characters, their relationship, and felt the storyline moved well. For a while I thought some strings would be left loose for series themes, but they got wrapped up as well.

I would have liked this series even better as an epic, with more: more details, more time with characters, more intertwining of the plot.

But overall, it was a good series of 6 not-very-long books. It was easy to bite off and chew with a newborn around!

I always enjoy reading any book that Jody Hedlund writes. With this one, I enjoyed the spiritual lesson of needing to surrender your own plans and dreams before God will move in to work out His way and will. The powers of darkness vs light as shared in the story are so true to our life in the world in which we live. I highly recommend this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

This is the sixth and final installment of the “Knights of Brethren” Series and it was another amazing read! I truly didn’t want this series to end! But I was happy because it had a great ending! I’m still hoping that more novels with come out with this fantastic medieval background, and maybe revisit some of the characters in the series in further stories!
I’ve been falling in love with one Knight of Brethren after the other, and Kristoffer was no exception! I swooned at his noble and kind heart, his loyalty to the King, and his love and protectiveness of Princess Birgitta!
Princess Birgitta of Swaine is leading the Dark Warriors into Norvegia in order to distract the enemy and help her brother Canute in his efforts to gain the throne he assures belongs to their bloodline. Opposing her brother’s methods, Birgitta wants to avoid ending human lives. But when they engage in a skirmish with a band of the Knights of Brehtren, she’s taken captive Kristoffer Prestegard, who is searching for the Holy Lamp in order to fight the Dark Warriors, and sees this opportunity to ask Prince Canute for the Holy Lamp -he just learned is in his hands- for ransom in exchange for the Princess. So, he chains the Princess to him so she’s never out of his sight. But when he arrives to his father’s hunting estate with the Princess captive, he learns of his uncle and father’s betrayal of the King. Not only that, but they want him as the rightful heir to the throne and are ready to fight for it, having gathered many allies for their campaign. When they see the Princess, they find she might be the key to gaining the power they desire. But Kristoffer is not willing to let them use Brigitta. Not only he is honorable, but having spent the last few days in her company has only fueled his attraction and admiration of the sassy Princess. She’s his biggest enemy, but somehow, getting to know her only proves to him how innocent and caring she is. But their closeness might be their undoing while Kristopher’s father and uncle conspire against the King for their own gain. How can he keep the Princess safe? And is his father right in affirming he is the better and rightful option to reign Norvegia? Can he truly betray his closest friends for pleasing his father?
This beautiful tale kept me captivated from page one until the very end. I fell in love with Kristoffer and Birgitta, and their romantic relationship had a lot of chemistry and sparks, while remaining sweet and clean. A swooning romance! There is a lot of romantic tension in this story. The forced proximity was a great element, I loved the part when they were chained to each other and forced to spend time together. The enemies-to-lovers trope was also fantastic. They couldn’t be more opposed, their love more forbidden, yet everything -let’s say Providence- threw them together at every turn. I love that there are so many inspiring values in this story: Kristoffer and Birgitta will have to follow the deepest crevices of their hearts to discern what is right and honorable before God, and be willing to sacrifice what they love most for the greater good. My heart ached for both of them as they battled against their family while trying to do the right thing. They were both courageous and bold. Kristoffer was so loyal and steadfast; the way he suffers after learning of his sister’s death was heart-tugging. I especially loved the way they communicated by holding hands, and how they showed each other support this way and with their gazes. Birgitta was strong and determined. She maintained an air of innocence in spite of having being trained to fight like a great warrior. There were some new side characters that made the story so interesting, like King Canute, and Gregers. I loved Gregers loyalty toward Birgitta. Rasmus, the main villain throughout the story is so evil that he gave me the chills.
The story has unexpected twists and turns that kept me engaged wanting to know how everything was going to end! And oh my! The ending was amazing! And it still leaves the door open for more stories, maybe other series! I deeply wish the author will keep writing medieval romances in the near future! She’s so good in any genre, but this one is particularly fantastic! I highly recommend this novel and especially the whole series! I do recommend to read it in order as you get to know the characters better in each one.
All in all, a fantastic Conclusion to the Series!
I received a complimentary copy from the Publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive review. This is my honest and unbiased opinion.

"Perhaps the first step in defeating darkness was fighting against it in my own life."

Kristoffer and Birgitta are on a quest to defeat the darkness in their own lives and thereby save two kingdoms from ruin. Kristoffer is on a quest for the holy lamp and is currently chasing packs of Dark Warriors along the way. Everything is coming to a head with King Canute of Swaine as he makes his final moves to take over Norvegia. Kristoffer is out of time to get the lamp to the King before Canute attacks. A pack of Dark Warriors attack and Kristoffer defeats a knight who turns out to be none other than King Canute's little sister, Birgitta. Feisty and independent, Birgitta challenges Kristoffer, and he responds in kind. They have great interplay as they match wits trying to outsmart and outspeak each other. Their conversation is lively and entertaining. They do seem to fall for each other rather quickly, but when you really look at how much time they spend together, I think anyone who spent that much time with a new person would develop an attachment to that person within a few days when you are spending every hour with them. Once again Hedlund is a queen of romantic tension, drawing you in with her sizzling scenes and heart throbbing moments. The themes of light and dark shone throughout the book. The challenges of Kristoffer and Birgitta mirrored each other. They both had to rise above the darkness in their personal lives to strive toward the light of truth and honor. They each kept their wits about them, and it was great to see that though the darkness pressured them, they didn't give in. Instead, they did what was right despite personal cost and sacrifice, especially when this came from family that they loved. Between the lamp, the sword, and the Dark Warriors, the story had fun fantasy elements that elevated the tale and transported you to a new world. I really appreciated how Kristoffer reacted to Espen's story and how he was already prepped and able to receive that tale in a way that had a more grounded perspective. Gregers' storyline was unique and added a way to have an excellent surprise at the end. I do wish Birgitta had been given the opportunity to fight more after how she was set up in the beginning. I also wanted more with Rasmus but appreciate how crafty he can be. I also agree that Canute was a bold and enthralling character who deserves his tale told. The final pages were sweet and charming, ending the series on a hopeful and happy note while leaving room for adventure in the future. I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
