Junkyard Pirate #6

Junkyard Ghost Ship

Rate this book
A flying saucer's crash landing is just the beginning of a race against time to save innocent aliens from a devious plot.

Albert Jenkins and his friends have enjoyed several months of peace, which is why when a Rosengul spaceship crash lands into his new house, he's not exactly surprised.

From the wreckage, a pair of small, ordinarily reclusive Rosengul emerge and spin a tale of kidnapping and deceit. Of course, AJ, who is about as sensitive as a stampeding buffalo, asks the pertinent question. Why drop this problem in his lap? The simple answer is that AJ developed a galactic reputation for getting the job done, even when it requires skirting Galactic Empire law. Someone is kidnapping Rosengul aliens, and their government is either unable to chase down the problem or unwilling to try. It’s obvious that it’s time to take off the gloves and get their hands dirty.

But before AJ can even get a full description of the problem, a team of heavily armed, human commandos fast rope their way into the middle of Darnell’s backyard. Having brought barbeque sauce to a gunfight, AJ and his team are easily overcome, leaving Doctor Jayne seriously injured.

If AJ wasn’t invested before the commandos arrived, hurting his fiancé was a great way to drag him into the fight. The biggest question is will he have to fight Army Intelligence or will they finally join forces for the benefit of all.

Best have a few hours free before starting this series

I have to learn not to start reading one of Jamie McFarlane is books near bedtime. I usually end up finding a nice stopping place in my reading about 5 or 6 hours later.
I fully recommend anyone wanting a great sci-fi book to begin with the first of this series, and then set aside several days for reading, if you are like me you'll be reading for days. The only reason I've stopped now is because I don't believe book 7 is out yet. I am happy to know that there are other series I can get caught up in.
The characters are so realistic, its like they might be your neighbors or even best friends. And new characters are added to keep you from becoming bored.
My only regret is that I cannot physically go with them!

I've been up and down about this series almost from the start. On the upside, Jamie McFarlane is an excellent author who writes interesting stories. The bad includes trite and annoying characters who seem to be all loud noises and mystifyingly bad decisions in order to move the plot along. It's almost as though he has modeled characters on people whom he knows and really likes, but somehow their positive characteristics don't come across or at least not enough to overcome their negatives. Oh well, I'll have to see whether I really want to keep reading this series. Right now it's fifty fifty; okay, thirty seventy.

“Junkyard Ghost Ship” Is An Excellent Read!

I normally am not a big “Sci-Fi” reader, one of my few exceptions to that has been this, the “Junkyard Pirate Series”.

Not only is the plot line exciting, it is also, at times hilarious as well. The characters are believable, and work well in moving the story forward.

If you need a break from whatever “category” you normally read then I highly recommend this book. It reads quite well as a standalone, as do each of the previous 5 books in the series. Give it a chance. I believe you will enjoy it. I certainly did.

Thank you, Mr. McFarlane…Could we have “book 7”? Please?

This was a satisfying series of tales, but slightly too tame for my taste.

As a former Marine, with more than a little experience in bad situations, I found the characters to be unbelievable in their aversion to use of deadly force. While no sane human being looks for opportunities to go on a murdering spree, no veteran with an extensive combat history would exercise the degree of restraint these characters displayed in the situations presented. Additionally, I found AJ’s tolerance of Lisa’s “ strong, proud, and intimidating personality “ to be nothing more than an unrealistic nod to the demasculinization of the male gender currently popularized by the liberal media.

Back home again! The crew is back on Earth and AJ is finishing his house at the junkyard. Wouldn't you know it. A flying saucer careens through the atmosphere and lands directly on top of AJ's house! From the splinters remaining, AJ and Big D dig out two slightly damaged and oh-so-tiny passengers. The two Rosenguls, Snagolarg and Perantop needed immediate help finding kidnapped children taken from Rosengul. You'll never believe why the Rosengul children were taken!

The junkyard crew with their Beltigersk riders take to space again off on another wild adventure. Tons of action! Great storyline! Hard to put down, the tale keeps spinning you in as the protagonists fight the evil enemies, saving the galaxy from another terrible fate! Romping good fun as our heroes whoop the bad guys! Amazing great fun! This is a great read!

Ghost Live!

This was a very good read.

I can say it was well paced and well written.

The characters played their part but were life like and alive.

I hope the action is better paced moving forward. I think it is also time for Jane to stop being matronoly and a tease,
That is wrong in so many ways.
What is wrong with characters actually showing PDA and affection?

If the author doesn't he should introduce a character that wants AJ and won't lead him on (even if they are married).

Fun and fast

AJ and crew are always good for a fast read. The Cheel, sleazy species during jour, using American Mercenaries create trouble. Who better to ask for help than a cute and cuddly alien race. Of course, the master of junkyard work is the only one, with the help of Doctor Amanda Jayne, Darnell and Lisa Jackson, and a couple Army Intelligence agents, that can figure out what is going on and who is responsible.

Disappointing!

I think this is the end of the line for Junkyard and me. The series started out fresh but has steadily gone down hill with each follow-on release. This last book got downright tedious to read and the ending was little more than a rushed bare boned outline that the author couldn't closeout. I don't know if the author was just tired of the series, out of ideas, distracted with other work, or something else but I'm done.

Another sci-fi cracker from Jamie McFarlane

I always enjoy these books and this one continued the trend of quality writing and storyline. Without giving anything away, some significant changes in the team help keep everything fresh too.
Major Baird keeps you guessing as to her allegiance and her two cronies joining up doesn't mean I trust them.
If you haven't got into this series yet, do it now. You're missing out.

Another great addition to the series. I like the lighthearted adventures these characters go on, and they are growing and changing slowly, too. I find there is a bit of sexism, but it seems accurate considering the main characters are essentially old boomers who have been re-energized. I found myself wanting this book to be a bit longer: the ending was a bit abrupt. Fun listen (audiobook version.)

Better than Expected

After the two previous books I reset my expectations for this series. I was pleasantly surprised then when book 6 came out ahead of those expectations! The storyline is still multithreaded but is better supported. Character behavior is consistent with past history and this book ends with the primary threads resolved.

Just getting better and better...

I started with Mr McFarlane on a recommendation from a friend about the Privateer series. I now read everything he writes and so far he has just gotten better. Though I really am going to miss the Privateer universe, the Junkyard series has really started to fill that itch.

I really enjoyed read this book and the rest of the series

I'm amazed that this author can write so many fantastic novels, I hope that he never stops writing. His books are some of the Entertainment I have read and worth the time to read them. Thank you for a very fun entertaining read.

A Humouress fun High Tail

This is not a book needing a science degree to understand and appreciate. It's a good old fashioned, rollicking story. It even has a person who looses his temper in a flash. He has a girlfriend who tries to keep him under control. Ladies, this book is for you too. Enjoy some fun, British style!! A light is lit, it is not lighted!!

This was back to the first and second book standards. Really liked the crew going out, helping out, coming home and not too long stuck in one spot. Lots of politics both at home and on a new planet. We get two new military officers along for the ride which gives new characters and relationships. This one was a really good addition to the series.

A great read!

This continues the Galactic travels of AJ and his motley crew of Fist Jam war buddies. They put their combined training and experience together with Dr Amanda Jane, who finally gets together with AJ, and together they are the extra ordinary heros the galaxy needs to set things to right. Another great adventure!

Great Series

This is a great series that manages to maintain a good pace. My only complaint was that book 6 ended rather abruptly. I was left wth a lot of questions regarding how the team made repairs, got home, staged a rescue... The ending suggests there is another story beginning, but first I'd like to know how this one actually ended.

Junkyard Ghost Ship Rocks!

I just finished Junkyard Ghost Ship, Book 6 of the Junkyard Pirate series. And, like the other 5 books in the series, Junkyard Ghost Ship is a winner! Great plot, a few surprises, and enjoyable throughout. I'm going to the next book, happy to continue the saga!

Edge of my seat

As always, good action, adventure, mystery, drama, comedy and intrigue. Excellent series. Only thing bothering me is Amanda Jayne’s condo. Pretty sure that in a previous book she said she sold it and her car, and invested the proceeds so she was free to travel into space. Hmmmm. Likable and believable characters. A good read.

I think the name Jamie McFarlane says it all!

I might have said this before but if the author has ever written a bad story, I have apparently missed it. Now comes the wait for the next book!

Amazing followup

Just another fun read in the series. Solid, not a stretched plotline and yet one ridiculously crazy adventure after another which is exactly why I wanted to read it. Love the series and looking forward to the next escapade.

Book 6 in the series

AJ, Darnell, and the rest of the crew are asked to solve the kidnapping of aliens. Two representatives from the aliens come to Earth and the crew agrees to help. The bad guys don’t give up easily so the adventure starts. A great read.

An enjoyable read.

The plot is fast paced with non-stop action, but it is the characters in the story that make or break a novel. I loved the banter and humor between the main characters. I could barely put the book down.

Another great read

This is the first review I've written although I have now read through six books. I'm really enjoying these books and look forward to what trouble these old vets get into next!
