Lyla knows she needs something—she just doesn’t know what.
Lyla Smythe is restless with that same uncomfortable edginess that always hits before a major life shakeup. She just needs to stay busy and ignore the feeling. Maybe it’s because her annoying sister moved in. Opposites in every way, at least they share a love of the stars.
Armed with homemade wine, they watch a meteor shower. But the wine must be tainted. One minute, they’re retching in the night, the next, it’s morning. And Edinburgh has somehow become a tiny hamlet. Before Lyla can sort it out, riders approach. The leader, a fiercely handsome man, sets her sixth sense buzzing.
Grant knows what he needs—but he’s afraid to repeat the past.
After his uncle’s execution, Chieftain Grant Reddoch trusts very few. When he comes upon two strangely dressed women acting addled, he’s certain they are spies. Best take them prisoner. Keep allies close. Keep those you don’t trust closer. The one called Lyla unnerves him. She clouds his judgement with the endearing friendliness of an irresistible puppy.
With growing political unrest, the last thing he needs are distractions. But the more he’s around Lyla, the more he needs her. And so, they wed. Then she tells him of her past and forces him to realize his error. He needs a wife and mother to his bairns. Not a woman suffering from lunacy. He locks her away for her own safety. Like he should have done with his first wife before she hanged herself.
Lyla knows she can make Grant happy and be a good mother to his children—if only he will let her. One way or another, she will capture her Highland keeper and love him until he has no choice but to accept time travel and love her as fiercely as she loves him.

Her mantra is this: No one has the power to shatter your dreams unless you give it to them.
She and her husband of over forty-five years traveled around the world while in the U.S. Air Force. Now they're settled in rural Kentucky where Maeve writes about her courageous heroes and the fearless women who tame them. Sometimes her stories are historical romances, time travel romances, or escapist romantasies, but the one thing they always have in common is a satisfying happily ever after. When she’s not plotting the perfect snare, she can be found herding cats, grandchildren, and her husband—not necessarily in that order.
Twin sisters end up in the past as they watch a meteor shower at Arthur's Seat looking at Edinburgh in 2019. Blacking out, they wake up, but Edinburgh looks nothing like the Edinburgh they know. Two Scottish warriors appear. Grant Raddoch is Chieftain, and the other is Malcolm Cransie, Warchief to Clan Reddoch. The year is 1650. Once Grant starts asking questions, Lyla, the more aggressive twin, starts making up a story. Her twin Abby can't stop crying. Both are taken to Eader and treated as guest prisoners. Unfortunately, Grant can tell when Lyla is not telling the truth to explain a comment she makes from the future. If she tells him the truth, can she trust him to believe her? As their love for each other grows, their bond could break with the truth just as easily as with lies. When Grant makes a decision in anger from what he believes are lies, it puts many lives in danger. A surprising source will bring truth to the future. Heat level 2 I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
As usual a wonderful book that’s great at keeping your full attention. Maeve has such a gift for this genre, one that was never a favourite of mine, but her books are a must for me now.
This has a beautiful story that has lots of emotion and is a wonderfully entertaining read. Recommend!

Capturing Her Highland Keeper by Maeve Greyson is the fourth book of the Time to Love a Highlander series. Lyla Smythe and her sister Abby are opposites in all but their love of the stars. When they watch a meteor shower, something mysterious happens and the Edinburgh that they are used to is no longer before them. They appear to have gone back in time. When Chieftain Grant Reddoch comes across two oddly dressed and confused women, he takes them prisoner under the assumption that they are spies. Lyla has a certain ability to unnerve him, and after a while he decides to marry her. Lyla tries to tell Grant about her past, and he realizes she must be mad. Grant locks her up to protect her. He doesn’t want anything to happen to her like his first wife. This doesn’t deter Lyla from trying to prove herself to Grant. She wants to be a good wife and mother to his children.
This is an interesting read. Lyla was surprisingly level-headed given the situation. I found some of Grant’s actions a bit severe, but I could also understand where he was coming from based on his past.
4.5 Stars Lyla Smythe is restless with that same uncomfortable edginess that always hits before a major life shakeup. She just needs to stay busy and ignore the feeling. A well written engrossing read, the characters have depth & are well portrayed, I loved both Grant & Lyla, whilst I liked Abby I wanted to shake her at times. The twins were a delight & Grant’s mother could have saved much heartache if she'd spoken sooner. I was surprised at Grant’s actions when Lyla revealed the truth & I certainly would have made him suffer before I forgave him! An easy to read page turner, which I loved My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
I always look forward to reading Maeve Greyson time travel books and this one was no exception. I often wonder what it would be like to be able to go back in time so I live voraciously through these stories! I do think knowing your history would be very helpful as Lyla and her sister find out!
I loved Lyla's character, she sure was a force to be reckoned with and you never knew what was going to come out of her mouth! lol When she and her sister find themselves back in time, not only do they fear being thought of as witches, they each find a love that was meant to be. I wasn't too sure about Grant and the way he handled things but then with the past issues he'd gone through and the era, I can understand his reactions.
A story that had my interest from start to finish and a true pleasure to read. I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Twins go back in time to 1650 Scotland and had no idea how it happened. I liked this story since there was a lot of it centered around getting others to believe the truth of time travel. Of course that didn't go over too well.
I liked Lyla and Grant's romance since they fit well together albeit in a interesting pairing. Lyla was definitely feisty and Grant struggled so much trying to get through the horror of his first marriage. Even though the main focus was on Lyla and Grant, Abby and Malcolm added a nice accompaniment too.
The interesting part in this book compared to others in this series was the lack of the constant push to return to current times. That was definitely appreciated since it became more about the romance and the trying to prove not to be crazy.
I am liking the variety in this series even with the similar time travel elements.
Thank you to Dragonblade and Netgalley for providing a copy of this ARC for my honest review.
The Heroine Lyla Smythe is divorced from her ex-husband. While married she suffered the loss of a baby her husband had never wanted. Now she lives alone in a small apartment, struggling to pay the bills and unsure of what to do next. Her sister, Abby, is her polar opposite and successful therapist, but when she comes to visit, she only criticizes and questions all of Lyla's life choices. When they stumble back into the past together, they have to rely on each other and get past their differences. Lyla has a strong sixth sense that she relies on to help direct her steps, but when Grant makes her senses soar and she finds being with him feels right, she wants to stay in the past and be with Grant.
The Hero Grant Reddoch is chieftain of the Reddoch clan. He lost his wife a few years ago when she killed herself after what sounds like depression or post-partum depression. He is raising his twins as a single dad while also taking care of his people in the clan. When he stumbles upon Lyla and her sister, he is suspicious as they seem confused and making up lies. He wants to trust his feelings for Lyla, but he is weary of her lying and the attachment his children are forming for her.
The Plot This book in the series was more enjoyable than the first one; there were parts that I was a little annoyed with but it might lead to spoilers so I'll refrain from elaborating. Lyla and her sister take time to adjust to the past and their new lives, but Grant is patient and understanding. Grant, for the most part was the sweetest, but he super annoyed me at the end with his reaction to Lyla's time travel confession. He pushed her and pushed her to tell him the truth and when she finally did, he did the unthinkable. It definitely added to the drama of the story, but it was disappointing for him to react in such a way.
Tropes Time Travel Romance, Historical Romance, Scotland Stuart Era - takes place in 1650 Gamma Hero - Grant is aggressive towards Lyla and what he wants, but he is also very caring of her and her feelings Highland Warrior Hero - Chieftain of Clan Reddoch Single Dad - he has twins from his first wife Protective Hero - he makes sure that Lyla and Abby are protected Titled Hero - he is the chief of a Scottish clan Widowed Hero - his wife killed herself years ago Damaged Heroine - she suffered a miscarriage and her husband was not supportive Experienced Heroine - she has been married Steam Stats...Outdoor Steam, Slow Burn Angst Romance - she is from the future and she is very worried to tell him Secrets & Lies - Lyla's lies to cover up her time travel strain the relationship
A sweet time travel highland happily ever after that quickly grabs your attention and keeps you entertained from beginning to end. In true Maeve Greyson fashion love over comes all and miracles occur throughout the story. Yes, there is an insta-love aspect. Yes, some of the characters were a little OTT. 😉 Yes, both of these things usually annoy me. Except when you mix a medieval Highland warrior who is a pure Alpha male with a brave feisty lass from the future - it’s pure magic. These stories always make me wish for my own time traveling adventure back to medieval Scotland…then I realize I wouldn’t have my kindle.

Capturing Her Highland Keeper by Maeve Greyson is a time travel romance. The different thing is that two sisters are transported. One makes trouble in her life, the other seems to settle in. It is the opposite of what one would have predicted. Chieftain Grant and Reddoch and his War Chief, Malcolm Cransie came upon two strangely dressed women as they were in the hills above Edinburgh. It was Lyla and her sister, Abby. These women were fraternal twins and not all that close. They were as different as different could be in personality. Lyla had recently divorced and miscarried a baby her husband had never wanted. Abby had chased her to Edinburgh. She was a psychologist and didn’t believe Lyla was dealing with her situation. It was causing some strife between the two of them. The four returned to Grant’s keep where they met his children and his mother. It turns out he was a widower. His wife had killed herself, making him very wary of women in general. They weren’t thrown into a dungeon but they were locked in. He needed to know who they were and why they were here. He through they were spies. It turns out the keep was full of tunnels and it wasn’t long before Grant’s five-year-old twins found there way into Lyla’s room. They led her out so they could pick berries, but were , of course, discovered by Grant.
The ending is predictable. The characters are fairly good. Grant can tell she is lying, even after falling in love with her. She is lying: about where they came from. He would never believe her and on her wedding night, believing him to be asleep, she spills her secrets. She was right, he doesn’t believe her. Interestingly enough, his mother does. There are adventures for Grant and Lyla and their love story is pretty enticing. It was a good break in the day: not too heavy, not too serious. I enjoyed it.
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Capturing Her Highland Keeper by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #netgalley. #dragonblade #maevegreyson #capturingherhighlandkeeper
I wanted to know what caused them to time travel and is wasn't revealed. Was it from the winemaker who was someone who was killed in the past and knew this family? There was a mention of a friend of the H's mother and something happened to her. I wanted to know more what caused it.
Near the end of the story the H does something that I wanted the h to make him pay more. My heart ached for her when she thought she was doing the right thing. If the H's mother would've spoken up sooner. Oh well, caused some drama!
This is a wonderful and magical escape to the Highlands. What ALWAYS bothers me in these stories, it's never mentioned about the lack of hygiene, medicine, clothes etc. Well, this author covered some of it and it warmed my big Polish Heart - so thank you. Wouldn't that be a major thing you would notice walking into a hall and smelling unwashed bodies - lol.
There is great dialogue and banter between the characters. The h's sister was so opposite of her and they were not close. But, for someone reason the h's sister blossomed going back to the 17th Century. The h was very kind hearted and cared for those she came in contact with.
The H's twins added the perfect amount of mischief. There is almost insta connection but it worked. Sad what the H and his friend were suppose to do and it was touching.
Lovemaking outside of marriage - heat level barely 5 out of 5. Foreplay described very briefly.
No cheating, no cliffhanger, stand alone story, HEA, some romance and steam. (ljb)
This is a captivating time travel story that caught my attention from the beginning and kept my interest all the way through. It is the fourth book of the Time to Love a Highlander series. Lyla and her twin sister Abby are transported back in time while they are watching a meteor shower in Edinburgh, 2019. They travel back to 1650, and are found by Chieftain Grant Reddoch. Thinking they are spies, he takes them prisoner. But it doesn't take long for his attraction to Lyla come to light, and he decides to marry her. But when she starts talking about her past, Grant thinks she has gone mad and decides to keep her locked up for her protection. Lyla is determined to prove herself to him and show him she wants to be a good wife to him and good mother to his children. She is quite an interesting character, and I loved her determination and feistiness. Though the main focus of the story was on Lyla and Grant, Abby also finds her own romance with Malcolm. The story was interesting and well-written and I enjoyed the romance, excitement, and adventure. An entertaining read from start to finish and a magical escape to the past! I'm looking forward to reading more of this series! I received a complimentary copy from Dragonblade Publishing via Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
One moment Lyla and her sister Abby are drinking homemade wine under the stars during a meteor shower, the next moment they're sick and retching and Edinburgh as they know it is gone. Somehow they traveled back to the seventeenth century and are captured by Grant Reddoch, chieftain of Eadar castle, and suspected as spies. With their strange clothes and mannerisms, Grant knows they're lying, but the truth he demands is more dangerous in this time period than she's willing to risk. As time goes by, Grant knows he can't live without this enigmatic woman, but he still can't entirely trust her. After they marry, she agrees to tell him the truth. Can their love survive the unbelievable truth or will she be labeled a witch? I loved Grant's character throughout most of this book so I couldn't believe how he treated Lyla after their marriage. This book was a little like three of my favorite stories mashed up into one: Outlander, Beauty and the Beast, and Gone with the Wind. I read the previous book in this series and enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I received an advance reader copy of this book. The views and opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
Lyla Smythe and her sister might be twins, but the only thing they agree on is their love of the stars. A trip up to Arthur's Seat above Edinburgh with a few bottles of homemade wine seems like a good idea. Our heroine is terrified when they wake up back in 1650. Her normally sensible sister is too panicked to respond to the two warriors who approach.
Chiefton Grant Reddoch and his war chief have a mission to perform. But that will have to be put off when they find the strangely dressed women. They must be English spies.
A very amusing and at times emotional time travel romance. Our heroine's sixth sense is not very helpful. Our hero has faced tragedy before and that affects his actions. The story will keep you engaged from the first to last page. Really great fun.
A remarkable story of Hope and Joy! This story captured me from the start. A true depiction of the bands of sisterhood. 2 sisters, Lyla & Abby, completely different in every way, get sent back in time. Lyla is strong, determined and level-headed, Abby is logical, smart and loyal. Though they loved each other, they often failed to see eye to eye. This picture of sisterhood rings true! The growing love between Lyla and Grant is the shining star of this book, of course. The drama of their past pulls such strong emotions though this story. I could feel their pain and heartbreak at every turn. The tensions created from Lyla’s truths kept me on the edge of my seat. I longed for their happy ever after and it did not fail to hit the emotions. The conclusion of this story had me in tears, happy tears. Another beautiful highland tale of love through the ages.
Wow, Maeve Greyson will take you from modern times back to Scotland in the blink of an eye. I absolutely adored this book and despised the fact that I had to set it down for any length of time. These characters were made for each other. You never knew what Grant was going to do. One minute, he was upset with Lyla, and the next happy. My favorite part was the way the book ended, and I won't give that away, but I will say that Ms. Greyson is absolutely brilliant, and if you are a lover of time travel like me, you have to read this book. These books can be read as stand-alone. However, I think reading the whole series is the way to go.
Don't we all dream of time travel? Well some of us more than others, but to go back in time and find a handsome Highlander, well, what more could you ask for!
Lyla and her sister end of back in the past and she finds herself with a handsome highlander. A little of insta love but who could resist?
Grant has not had the easiest time. With the uncles death, he does not trust many, especially with the political unrest. When he comes across Lyla, he does not know what to think but it greatly attracted to her.
Loved these two and the back and forth. Their journey to love is not exactly easy, but it is well worth everything!
I really appreciate the way mental illnesses were covered, especially the way Lyla explained it to the children. Grant's dilemma of whether he was harming or protecting her was also on point. It was nice to see a leading man who was flawed but likable. Stubborn and loving, what a great combo for all that angst. I also enjoyed the complicated relationship between the sisters. It was real and relatable. The historical details were just icing on the cake.
This is another great read in this series. Ma.Greyson has done herself proud. Lyla and Grant and Malcolm and Abby’s story was an absolute Joy to read. Strange characters in their own right. All the characters in this story were grand. You knew his mother knew something she wasn’t quite sure to give away. But the when she did all the parts fell into place. This is another page turner. Love it.
I loved this story! This is the fourth in the series and I have loved them all. Two sisters so different from each other fall back in time. One desperate to go home ant the other wants to stay. This book really took me away and that’s what makes it so good! Loved the story, loved the characters! I definitely recommend reading this book!
Grant found two women in Edinburg. Lyla and her sister were in the year 2019, sitting on a hill and woke up in the 1600,s. Grant took them with him, they were dressed strange and he thought them to be spies. It is best to read and find out how modern day women deal with 17th century ways of life and the men from that time.
In a new and exciting story. I read a lot of time travel and this has to be one of the best I've read in a while. It is original and the characters are dwell defined and completely enchanting.
I have read several of the other books in this series and I think this one maybe my favorite. I don’t like giving spoilers but Grant and Lyla’s slow burn romance with good historical fact and epilogue that has a wonderful HEA.
I have enjoyed this book. Lyla and her sister Abby found themselves in a hard situation with going back to the 1600’s. I was glad she was able to have children.
Loved it! I love this so much. This series is wonderful. I'm always on pins and needles for the next. These characters were great though I was glued once I started reading and didn't stop till the book ended.
The storyline was very intriguing. Kept you wondering what was going to happen next. I could picture the wedding decorations so vividly due to the great descriptions that were given.
The characters were great as was the plot. I did laugh and I shed a few tears. My favorite kind of books. I’m ready to read book 5 and hope I’m not disappointed as this series is going great.
The plot was fine but Grant's actions at the end are very off putting and violent. The fact Lyla forgives him for ALL OF IT with not even taking a moment to consider what was done to her left me with a very bad feeling and dampened the whole experience.
