Frost Falls at the Potting Shed is the start of a brand-new series, The Potting Shed, #1.
I really enjoy gardening and even though it's Fall here in the states and the only gardening I'm currently doing is watering house plants I really enjoyed it.
Maddie Willand and her bossy, older sister Sabi are devastated by the sudden and unexpected death of their father. The Potting Shed was their father's whole life, he put everything he had into it and his daughter Maddie still does as well. Looking at the books after his death she's devastated to learn the shop is badly in the red. Maddie and Sabi are co-owners of the shop but having totally different outlooks on life makes for an incompatible relationship. Maddie is desperate to keep the shop running and honor her father's memory and she plain just loves the shop with all the family memories it holds. Sabi doesn't put any stock into sentimental memories and is ready to sell it out from under Maddie. She even goes as far as making devious plans to try to get it sold. Try as she may to hold onto the shop Maddie knows it may all be futile in the end if something doesn't come up and quickly at that.
This is such a feel-good sentimental journey. It's not only charming but there is a sweet Christmassy vibe intertwined within the pages as well. I loved the descriptions in the potting shed, Christmas trees, mistletoe, poinsettia and hot chocolate. Throw in the distraction of a sweet new romance and what more could you need?
A definite must read!

I really enjoyed this story and hope this is the start of a new series at the Potting Shed. The characters were likeable and I enjoyed seeing how Maddie could possibly save her father’s legacy.

Straight from the beginning, it is clear how dedicated Maddie is to the Potting Shed. It is her life and through it, the memory of her late father continues. However, this garden nursery is crumbling around her, and her sister, Sabi, latches on to an opportunity that threatens the future of the Potting Shed forever. Sabi has dreams of freeing her sister from what she sees as a burden, whilst at the same time fulfilling her life-long dream of living in her perfect house, and this inevitably causes conflict between the two characters. Maddie understands Sabi’s dreams but feels herself being pulled between her sister and the Potting Shed.

I enjoyed seeing how Maddie would overcome this conflict, especially as I thought there were times she was too patient towards her sister, giving into her whims a bit too easily. However, Maddie does become a stronger character over the story, making it more enjoyable to see this transformation. When Petra starts working at the nursery, it sparks Maddie into some action, even if it is short-lived as Sabi squashes any hope for the future of the Potting Shed. Petra is the fresh pair of eyes that Maddie needs to the nursery, but the fear that it is too little, too late, remains forever omnipresent.

Enter Ed, Maddie’s solicitor. By far, he was my most favourite character and I loved the scene between him and Leo. Kane has created a character that is the antithesis to traditional lawyers and I enjoyed seeing how friendly and hands-on his character is. He becomes the support that Maddie needs when her relationship with Sabi sours, and it was gratifying to see how invested he becomes in saving the Potting Shed.

Although set in the lead-up to Christmas, this book wasn’t too festive – perfect to read even now! The way the grounds of the Potting Shed are described are very much what you would expect of the winter months. I think Kane has truly captured this essence of the Potting Shed and also what is means to be an independent business pitted against the corporate chains. The story finished on such a note of optimism, making it more ideal for Christmas and I hope readers are able to return to see what the future has in store for the Potting Shed.

This was an easy-going, likeable read that was delightful from start to finish. With family divisions, relationship troubles and the reality of running a small, independent business, this book is all about chasing and growing dreams to achieve happiness.

With thanks to Head of Zeus for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Favorite Quotes:

Grade-one snob syndrome.

Maddie glared at her houseplant. ‘Comments like that are not helpful.’

My Review:

This was a fun and engaging women’s fiction read featuring sisters at odds over their struggling family business in a small British village. The characters were well-etched and knowable, while not always likable – like most family members are in real life. Maddie was an endearing, driven, and lonely soul who not only talked to her plants but held intense conversations and arguments with them. The storylines were easy to follow, well-paced, and mild enough to recommend to my elderly mother’s church ladies’ book club.

I also gleaned a new addition to my Brit Words and Phrases list with berk, which is British slang for a stupid person. I have plants of my own to tell this one too.

This book was such a good audible production. I fell in love with the narrators voice. She really had me drawn in.
I found myself heavily invested in Madi who is such a lovely and relatable character. As we're the side characters.
and the budding romance with the lawyer was adorable.

I read the Kindle version, not a choice in Goodreads at this time.

This was the first book that I read by Jenny Kane. I adore this story! It is filled with many misunderstanding since the characters do not speak to each other as they should, but that is how life is sometimes. The two sisters at the heart of the story are dealing with the death of their father, two years prior, and the fate of the family business, a garden nursey. Also, as in life, the sisters who were so close as children, have grown into very different people. I appreciated the honesty in the story to explore their relationship and why it has become fractured.

I am a gardener, so reading a story about a gardening business was a true delight! I have been known to talk to plants, just as Maddie does.

The plot was well thought out. The characters were developed perfectly and I have definite likes and dislikes with them. The descriptions of scenery and surroundings made me feel as if I were there with the characters.

I totally enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more of Ms. Kane's books.

A huge thank you to Aria & Aries and NetGalley for giving me the pleasure of reading the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

Thank you to Netgalley and to the publisher, Aria and Aries for providing me with an Arc!

This book gave me the warm fuzzies, of course it's a bit early for christmas (the book only comes out in October) but it still put me in just the right mood for the season to come. This story gave me the warm fuzzies.
It's not my typical read, a bit simplistic for my liking.. but if you're looking for a sweet read and a few hours of escapism this might do it for you! The characters are endearing and the setting is so lovely but I did hope for something more christmas-y..

Decent book, 2.5 stars!

I have thoroughly enjoyed this book, it’s filled with cosiness, gardening knowledge/work and has good character building.

I love that the author gave details about the characters hobbies, interests and what they were like before, during and after the incident with Sabi and Maddi’s dad and what the future had held for The Potting Shed.

I love how much passion was displayed in this book, the love for plants and how they bring life, happiness and beautiful scents to the air that bring cheer, even in a frosty season, plants like Christmas trees and poisonettas were great mentions and added cheer to the local community.

There were family feuds and falling outs between friends and other characters of which I won’t mention which had me hooked throughout. I NEEDED to know what happened in every chapter as soon as I could physically pick the book up.

I also loved that Maddie, one of the main characters found an interest in a lovely man called Ed, despite her past relationships, she embraced the change of her relationships and of the season.

This is book 1 of 3, I definitely think and get the vibes that this book can be standalone too if you wish not to embark on a series.

A great start to a new series. Most of the characters were well written but Sabi remained evil to me, even in the end. She never fully learned what she did wrong, and was only quickly soothed by her husband every time she did something absolutely insane. Who does these things?

Maddie was a delight to read about as were the other characters (outside of Miriam). I think the story could have benefitted more from Sabi not being an evil witch to her sister. I personally would have never forgiven her actions.

This was a book about family, loss and coming to terms with the ways we mourn those losses. I had gone into this expecting a serious and sad tale, but was pleasantly surprised by the warmth this book encapsulates.

Ultimately it was an enjoyable read, definitely worth picking up if you're looking for those comforting holiday vibes.

i was hooked from page 1! a real page turner with great character development (especially Maddie, Sabi and Jack).
i did not like Maddie’s insecurities when it came to Ed, but i see where they came from. although i think that her flipping out when she thought that Ed only dated her as a distraction was a bit too much and could have been left out. i loved it when they finally got together in the end.

A solid read, although Sabi's behaviour was increasingly annoying I found the legal dynamics of a take over intriguing. Being from the area it's set I did question if it would be a token mention of popular areas but it wasn't it genuinely mentioned local areas.

Ed was my favourite character althouh he seemed too good to be true character wise.

I'm intrigued by the fact that there are a further two books in this series and whether there will be any more.

I received an ARC of, Frost Falls at The Potting Shed, by Jenny Kane. Maddie always loved working in her dads, Potting Shed, when he dies suddenly, everything changes for Maddie, her sister want to sell, and they already have an offer, what will Maddie do?

This was my first book by this author and I am looking forward to reading more of their books.

The title of this book drew me in as I have a love of gardening and I found this to be a very poignant read as gardening is something that my dad introduced me to as a young girl and a passion that we continue to share.

This was so much more than a romantic read as was a story of grief and rebuilding family bridges and making new friendships and trying new things.

Once I had picked it up I couldn’t put it down and read it in almost one sitting. I am already looking forward to the next book in this series to see where maddie and sabi life at the garden centre takes them next and to catch up with and delve more into the lives of the other characters.

#7 10 before the END!
Jenny Kane’s Frost Falls at the Potting Shed is a delightful start to the Potting Shed series, blending heartwarming relationships, personal growth, and a picturesque village setting into a cozy and charming read.

The story follows Maddie Willand, who returns to the small town of Wendlebury Barrow after losing her high-powered job in the city. Back in her childhood home and working at a local garden center, Maddie is forced to re-evaluate her priorities and rediscover what truly makes her happy. The blossoming romance with the endearing landscaper Ed adds a lovely spark to the story, but it’s Maddie’s journey of self-discovery and reconnection with her roots that truly shines.

Kane’s talent for creating a vivid and comforting atmosphere is evident throughout the book. From the frosty mornings at the potting shed to the lively interactions with the quirky yet lovable townsfolk, Wendlebury Barrow feels like a place you’d want to visit—or never leave.

While the pacing is gentle, sometimes the narrative lingers a bit too long on certain details, and the romantic arc feels slightly predictable. However, these minor points don’t detract from the overall enjoyment of the story. Kane’s humor, relatable characters, and ability to tug at the heartstrings more than make up for it.

Frost Falls at the Potting Shed is a feel-good read, perfect for anyone who loves small-town settings, uplifting stories about starting over, and just a touch of romance. It’s an engaging introduction to the series, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for Maddie and her adventures at the potting shed.

Having enjoyed the Mill Grange series, I was anticipating this new series. The Potting Shed proved to be a warm, welcoming place, with a strong, family vibe. Of course, some members of the family are not in agreement and an offer from an outside concern causes a rift to emerge between the two sisters, Maddie and Sabi. They have different priorities. Maddie is easy to like. She is hardworking and wears her heart on her sleeve. Sabi, on the other hand, is less sympathetic and appears entitled and a little snobbish. As the story develops, you begin to see a different side to Sabi and to understand why she is behaving as she does.

There is plenty of potential for future stories set in the Potting Shed. You are introduced to a range of characters who all come over as individuals. Full of the outdoors, Maddie relishes the outdoors, no matter the weather and the stary walks sound amazing. With a love of nature, the Potting Shed seems to bring the best out in people and you sense a community who you may meet in future books, willing Maddie to succeed. This is a warm and entertaining story, set in Winter, with a nod to the festive season.

In short: Take a risk and follow your dreams

I was really disappointed with this book. The premise sounded cute, but the story was so boring! I considered DNFing even when I was 70% through, but has already invested enough time- I mostly skimmed the rest. I also didn’t love how “Sabi” (what an annoying nickname for Sabrina) was demanding her sister give up her dream so she could buy a second house. No decent person would think of doing that! I didn’t like that the characters most portrayed as smart, logical and came to the rescue with the sketchy lawyer were both men. That just rubbed me the wrong way a bit. Lastly, and maybe most importantly, this was classified as a romance, which seems completely inaccurate. It should have been classified as women’s fiction if anything. There was not much romance in it, and that part was definitely not the main focus of the story.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me access to this eARC for my honest opinion!

3.5 stars actually
I was really expecting a fluffy Christmas romance but the romance was just a subplot. The book focused very much on the theme of family, sisterhood, misunderstandings between family members, reconnection and holding on to good things.

It was way more dramatic and deep than I was expecting and I loved that it focused on the exploration of the aforementioned themes in depth.

Unfortunately, I had a hard time connecting with the writing style, but this is a very personal thing so I don't think it should mean much to whoever is reading this review. Also it didn't involve much Christmas magic, it was more set before/ around Christmas. And I could have done with a bit more on the romance subplot, but overall, I think it's a wothwhile read if you love family dynamics and a lot of exploring of complex emotions, small business talk and concerns, plants, farmers' markets, welly walking/puddle splashing and star gazing.

Amazing. This was my first book by this author and I wasn’t sure what I was going to get. To begin with I was really undecided if I was going to enjoy it, initially I found Maddie hard to connect with but as soon as Ed came on the scene I was hooked. Bizarrely all the male characters, Ed, Henry and Jake really resonated with me and I enjoyed reading each of them, each supporting a strong woman and being supported in different ways. I loved the blossoming relationship of Jake and Petra and Maddie and Jake. Seeing a strong and supportive marriage between Henry and Sabi was lovely too.
This was a wonderful Christmas read and beautiful community spirit.

Firstly, I am a massive fan of this author and have been looking forward to reading this.

The Potting Shed is a special place to Maddie and when her sister starts making noises about selling up Maddie is more than determined to prove herself to Sabi.

We have an amazing cast of characters and each one grows as the story unfolds.

A brilliant start to a new series and I am looking forward to reading more about The Willands and their friends.

Jenny Kane is a new author for me and it was by accident I stumbled across this book on Amazon. It was the cover and title that first caught my eye. Frost Falls at the Potting Shed is a lovely, light and enjoyable read that tells the story of Maddie and what happens when talked about plans were not put in place in time and therefore both Maddie and her family are left to deal with the consequences. As the title suggests the story takes place in winter and the run up to Christmas. But this isn’t strictly a Christmas book so doesn’t necessarily have to be read during December. It was a quick read that provided a few hours of escape from the rigours of everyday life.

Maddie had run the Potting Shed plant nursery with her father Tony, right up until his death. Plans had been made to change the nursery into a garden centre and in Tony’s will Maddie was to get the house and nursery but before these changes could be officially written down Tony had heart trouble and passed away. Maddie is devastated by the loss of her father and finds it challenging to keep going with the nursery but she knows what her fathers long term ambitions had been and hopes she can bring them come to fruition. The nursery isn’t doing that great even though Maddie is fully devoted to it and she has Jake working by her side. The problem now is that the nursery has been left between Maddie and her sister Sabi and so forms the crux of the entire story. Sabi wants to sell the nursery and use the money to buy her dream home but Maddie feels the complete opposite.

When a big company who run many national garden centres want to buy the land Sabi is eager to do a deal but Maddie feels this is the wrong thing to do and so a stalemate ensues between the two sisters. The main point of the story is going back and forth between the two sisters as to what the final outcome should be and to be honest, I was firmly on Maddie’s side the entire time. The issue causes divisions between the pair and some personal and family truths come spilling out the further the book develops. I’ll admit I did find some parts of the book to be repetitive in going over the same ground as to why or why not the land should be sold or else remain the way it was. Yes, there was a bit of mystery and suspicion surrounding the solicitor representing the big garden centre wishing to buy The Potting Shed and that did keep my attention. But at times, I felt the book needed something different to happen and for the pace to quicken up a bit as I felt the same things were being said and I found myself getting a bit irritated. But saying that once I went passed, I’d say, the 60% mark things did pick up and I wanted the best for all the characters and especially a positive outcome for Maddie. Although the way things were going happiness for her seemed very far out of reach.

I loved Maddie as a character because she stood firm to her roots and her beliefs throughout the entire story. Plenty was sent to test her but she knew The Potting Shed was part of her DNA and her heritage and that she couldn’t let it go without a fight and that’s what she did throughout. I loved that about her. She may have felt down and overwhelmed at times but she picked herself back up and kept going. Having Petra (the daughter of a friend of Sabi’s) coming to work there turned out to be a blessing in disguise as she had so many creative and resourceful ideas to try and boost the profile and profits of the nursery. Petra also allowed for a storyline to develop regarding Jake and I loved how this was handled with such sensitivity and tact. She was able to open up a side to him that he had kept concealed but perhaps for all the wrong reasons.

Ed was the solicitor who started to handle Maddie’s fathers affairs and I could tell that there was a connection between himself and Maddie. One perhaps they couldn’t act upon given the situation she found herself in but as a reader you are desperate for the pair to get together but it seemed so far from becoming a reality. I loved how Ed became much more involved in the whole process of trying to save the nursery and he really did go above and beyond the call of duty. Wthout him, I think the entire story would have turned out very differently.

Sabi for me was the most divisive character. Even now having long finished the book I’m not sure I really like her even though she did towards the end show some redeeming features and the reasons for her actions are very clearly explained still there was just something about her that made me more enamoured to Maddie as a character. To me it seemed like Sabi exasperated the situation regarding the sale of the nursery. Ok, she wanted to use the money from the proposed sale to have an even bigger house as that had always been a dream of hers but you could tell her husband Henry thought she was mad. That they were fine the way they were and why did they need something bigger especially as their daughter was away at school?

To me it was a bit like keeping up with the Joneses and that she wanted to be as good as her friend Miriam and maintain a nice lifestyle. She was totally forgetting about Maddie and how much the nursery meant to her. It was her whole life and it held such special memories that Sabi seemed intent on throwing out the window and all for some money. Sabi came across as selfish and steadfast in her ways for most of the book and I couldn’t warm to her at all. Can you tell I was firmly on Maddie’s side throughout? She was stubborn and high handed and I didn’t like the way she went behind Maddie’s back. Yet, deep down there had to have been a reason for her to be so hellbent on everything and for her refusing to be more sympathetic towards Maddie and her own personal situation.

All in all, Frost Falls at the Potting Shed was a good read. It didn’t blow me away but still I was glad I gave it a go. I enjoyed it enough that I know I will read the second in the series Bluebell Season at the Potting Shed when its published in March when the story of Maddie and Sabi will be continued.

I have a little confession to make. Yes yet another one. Although I have several of Jenny's books in my ever increasing 'to be read' mountain, I haven't actually read one...........until now that is. When I was invited to take part in the blog tour for 'Frost Falls At The Potting Shed'. I thought that it would give me the kick up the bottom that I needed to become acquainted with Jenny's work. Having enjoyed reading 'Frost Falls At The Potting Shed' as much as I did, I am now rather cross at myself that I have left it this late to discover how good her books are. I absolutely loved 'Frost Falls At The Potting Shed' but more about that in a bit.

I have to say that I loved the character of Maddie. I warmed to her from the very start and it didn't take long for me to feel as though she had become a friend of mine and I felt all protective of her. She is a lovely young lass, who shared her father's passion for all thing plants and helped him to run the 'Potting Shed', which is along the lines of a garden centre type business. Their shared dream was to expand the 'Potting Shed' so that it could offer a lot more than just plants. Sadly her father died but she hopes to make their dream come true. I shared her hope and dream and kept everything crossed that she would make a huge success of the venture. There are a lot of obstacles in her way though. What happens? Well for the answer to that question and so much more you are just going to have to read the book for yourselves to find out as I am not going to tell you.

It took me next to no time to get into 'Frost Falls At The Potting Shed'. In fact by the time I got to the end of the first page, I knew that I was going to become addicted to the story and that I would find it rather difficult to put the book to one side for any length of time. I was correct on both counts. Part of the attraction of the book was the fact that I had taken so well to the characters that I genuinely cared for them. I simply had to know how the story panned out and what that meant for the characters who seemed more like friends than characters in a book. This was one of those books that you could completely lose yourself in- I know I certainly did. I became so wrapped up int he story and in the lives of the characters that I lost all track of time and just how quickly I was getting through the book. All too quickly I reached the end of 'Frost Falls At The Potting Shed' and I had to say goodbye to Maddie, Ed and the rest of the characters. I found 'Frost Falls At The Potting Shed' to be a delight to read from start to finish. I have to say that the ending of the story left me feeling as though I had had a hug from a mug of hot chocolate - in other words, I was left feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.

'Frost Falls At The Potting Shed' is extremely well written. Jenny has one of those easy going writing styles that is easy to get used to and easy to get along with. In fact reading this book felt more like a chat between friends rather than reading a book. I hope that makes sense. Jenny certainly knows how to grab the reader's attention and draw them into what proves to be one heck of a story. Jenny clearly cares about her characters and this shines through in the very vivid and realistic way in which she describes them. She makes her characters seem just as real as you and I. I think that I identified with Maddie to a degree in that I know how it feels to suddenly lose a parent and the heartache that follows. I love the way in which Jenny makes the reader feel as though they are part of the story and at the heart of the action.

In short, I thoroughly enjoyed reading 'Frost Falls At The Potting Shed' and I would definitely recommend this book to other readers. I will certainly be reading more of Jenny's work in the future. The score on the Ginger Book Geek board is a very well deserved 5* out of 5*.

Goodness, how much do I adore this book?!

I will admit that it was the title and the cover that turned my head and made me want to pick this book up, it's so charming and eye-catching and the story within didn't disappoint either. I do have a love of gardening, so this appealed to me straight away.

This tells the emotional story of Maddie whose beloved father passes away leaving the family a little adrift, he left his plant nursery; The Potting Shed to Maddie and her older sister Sabi. Maddie wants to carry on but her sister wants to be rid of the business. Things become a lot harder for Maddie as a large garden centre chain wants to buy the nursey, she can't lose everything her father built up she has dreamed of having this nursey her whole life and now it's at risk of being snatched away.

You can really feel her heartbreak at the prospect of losing the nursey, having lost her father she doesn't want to lose The Potting Shed too, so she does the only thing she can and seeks legal advice...in walk lawyer; Ed!

Can Ed use all his legal knowledge to help Maddie save her Potting Shed or will her sister get what she wants and sell it to the garden centre chain?

I won't say too much about what happens, just know that this book pulls at all your heartstrings, it's full of romance and friendship, and there is so much warmth threaded through the story. Despite the sadness and seeing the characters cope with grief in their own way, this is such a charming and feel-good story of love.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Frost Falls at the Potting Shed, it ended up being completely different to what I originally thought, I was thinking it would be light-hearted and full of love and fun. Well, I was right about the bit of romance, but this had so much more depth to it which kept me engaged throughout.

A definite must-read!

There is so much going on in this book, but it never fells like too much. You've got the big corporation coming in to destroy the small family business, friction between sisters, and two romances in their early stages. I liked Maddie from the beginning and felt bad for her that the universe seemed to be against her so often. It took until about 3/4 through the book for me to like Sabi. Her focus on getting her dream house no matter the consequences was so frustrating. I did like that Maddie and Henry confronted her about what she was doing but never really gave up on her. Of course so much of the conflict between Sabi and Maddie could have been averted had they had an open conversation. I'm hoping at some point in the series Maddie will tell Ed about the relationship that made her no longer trust men so that he has a little more understanding of why she sometimes pushes him away. Good thing for Maddie that he likes her so much and is willing to keep trying with her. The relationship between Jake and Petra was really sweet and I loved that they both pushed and inspired one another to go after what they want. I hope we get more from these two in future books. I'm sure there will be more confrontations between the Potting Shed and BIG and I'm hoping the Potting Shed always comes up on the winning side.

This is a cover that I haven't seen much of on bookstagram. This was such a bittersweet heartwarming book. Though I could see my sister and myself in Sabi and Maddie's relationship. They could not see eye to eye on how to continue their fathers legacy and business after he passed. Luckily my sister and I do not work together but she did work with my Dad. And although they worked together everyday I was somehow closer to him on a personal level.
There was definitely a yucky feeling coming from the corporate lawyer who was offering to buy the business and property. But through that Maddie got closer to her solicitor who she had a lot in common with and I seriously would love to go on a welly walk or join a Dark skies group. hmm hey google... There's so much light pollution from the nearby cities that it's hard to get pitch black enough to view the stars in all their glory. I would have to drive out to the country.
I will admit though Sabi's ambition to be with the posh wives group started to get to me. She wouldn't budge an inch and she just seemed really selfish forcing her sister into something she didn't want. I am glad when they finally saw eye to eye and realized that inside their grief was a lot of hurt feelings.
Jake and Petra's workplace romance was so sweet! A very unlikely pair per societies standards but not theirs.

Frost Falls at the Potting Shed by Jenny Kane

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Aria and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

It has always been Maddie Willand's dream to take over her father's plant nursery. But after his sudden death, she is devastated to discover that she might lose The Potting Shed forever.

Maddie's bossy older sister, Sabi, is joint owner of the nursery, and she's convinced that the best thing for both of them would be to sell up. Determined to keep the business going, Maddie can't afford any distractions, but staying focused might be harder than she thinks when – after a major garden centre chain puts in an offer – her search for legal advice throws her into the path of attractive lawyer Ed...

As frost begins to fall over The Potting Shed, will Maddie find the strength to save her father's legacy and open herself up to new beginnings?

My Opinion

This is the first book in a new series and what a nice start it was. From the start it was clear that Maddie would do what it takes to save The Potting Shed. Whilst set around December this book wasn't overly festive and can be read at any time of year. This was a delight to read from start to finish and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series already.

I would like to thank Aries and Aria publishing for asking me to review this book.
Maddie helps her father run the family plant nursery called The Potting Shed, they have big plans and have a family meeting to discuss things. All seems well until her father unexpectedly passes away before changing his will. Now it looks like Maddie may lose the potting shed.
Sabi, Maddie’s older sister, thinks the best thing would be to sell the potting shed to a big conglomerate garden centre, that have approached her. Sabi is a social climber, who doesn’t really care about what her sister wants.
When Maddie finds out about the conglomerate, she decides to fight for the potting shed and to try and make the changes she and her father wanted. She asks the family lawyer for advice and things brings Ed into her life. With his knowledge and friendship, she maybe able to fight, but she needs to get her sister on side. Can the sisters move past their differences and work together?
This was a great start to a new series, good characters and plot. I enjoyed seeing the growth of Maddie and Sabi, their sister dynamic was well written and thought out. I enjoyed the side characters who added so much to the story, a number of them with their own reasons for coming to the potting shed.
I will definitely be reading the next book when it comes out.

In short: Take a risk and follow your dream

After her father’s sudden death, Maddie wants to continue his dream of expanding their small nursery into a larger gardening center. Instead, her sister, a co-owner, wants to sell it so she can buy her dream house. Maddie is determined to move forward with her plans even as her sister is just as determined to sell. Maddie’s new solicitor seems to want to help her, and may even be interested in a relationship with her. But into this mix is the threat of a mega chain of gardening shops which may just put Maddie out of business before she really gets started. This well written novel captured my interest from the very beginning. The author deals with the relationship between the sisters, and with the husband trying to offer the best advice he can to resolve the issue. The sister is always trying to keep up appearances to mimic her longtime and successful, but not terribly nice, friend, and she must decide whether she ought to or not. Other serious issues are brought up in the book, which make it a novel of substance despite the romances that are blooming in the the flower shop. This novel is peopled with delightful and complex characters, and I look forward to reading about them in the next book in the series.

What an enjoyable romance story this was, with a lovely storyline and great characters I thoroughly enjoyed reading this first book in The Potting Shed series. Set in Devon at a small garden nursery I really felt I was there amongst the plants and bags of compost on those frosty December mornings. The storyline quickly acquainted me with the characters and their lives and I was really rooting for Maddie all the way through.

I loved the characters, they were really well written. The misunderstandings that led to overreactions and confusion seemed very real and believable. With a few exceptions I liked all the characters, and those few I wasn't supposed to like anyway.

This story had it all, family, love, good friends, gardening, coffee and winter days. Set where I live anyway, I could easily visualise the towns and roads described but even if I didn't I would have felt at home. This author can really immerse you in her stories, with her characters and settings. I look forward to more adventures in the Potting Shed and seeing how things develop and grow.
