Time to get ready for the Next Generation of the Wild. It's the kids' turn to find their mates.

Jayden

Coming to Minneapolis to play for the Wild's mini camp was a dream come true to jump start my hockey career. It was only natural to crash with my dad's friend and ex-teammate, Philippe Delaney. Everything was going great. The Wild is loving what they're seeing and I might have found my mate. The only issue, my mate isn't a werewolf and Mr. D has forbidden me from dating his youngest daughter. So do I listen to the powerful alpha or my heart?

Kennedi

Hanging out with Jayden again has been a dream come true. He's sweet, caring and a bit of a comic. But best of all, he isn't afraid to date me. Now the biggest obstacle is the fact that I'm a sea otter shifter and he's a werewolf. Could he really be my mate?

Settle in for a story that shows the ups and downs of a forbidden relationship with a hint of friends to lovers. Find out what happens when fate decides that a werewolf and a sea otter shifter are the perfect match.

If you love werewolves, shifters and hockey romances, this is the book for you.

What started out as a contemporary romance series centered on the game of hockey has evolved into so much more. The highly anticipated first book in the new romance series by Kat Obie is here and boy does it go in a new direction. Built on the solid foundation of her Loving The Sound world, Loving the Pack is the follow up to the supernatural spin off, Loving The Wild.

Jayden is a wolf shifter. It is a secret he shares with his father, former Wild player Dez Smith (His story leads off the Wild series). Jayden has spent the last few years learning to control his speed and strength enough to play professional hockey. The extra power that comes with being a shifter is all well and good, but a five mile slap shot might raise a few eyebrows on the all human NHL teams. He has been given the chance to come to Wild rookie training camp and to maybe try for a spot on the team.

Kennedi, an otter shifter, is grumpy coach Phillipe Delaney’s youngest daughter, independent and sassy, with an overprotective dad. A world class athlete on her own, she has a firm sense of where her life is going.

Dez and Delaney were close as players and while their kids grew up playing together, things are a bit different now that they are adults. Warned to keep things non romantic, the couple pushes the boundaries as they become certain they are true mates, the ultimate in relationship goals in the shifter world. Still, no one has any idea what will happen if two different types of shifters mate. That is a twist that makes this well loved story take on a whole new life.

I dearly love the dynamic between the two main characters as they are drawn to one another and look forward to seeing how they evolve into the greater story as the series progresses. There are no huge surprises in their romance which is sweet with just the right amount of heat, but the big question marks about the future are never far from the story.

I also enjoyed seeing more of the inner workings of Wolf pack. There are obvious undercurrents that open up so much potential going forward. Though I get the feeling that the author is just kind of making up the rules to her supernatural universe as she goes (Yes, I do recognize the irony in that statement), I do believe that she is on to something wholly original in what is sometimes an over saturated romance niche. Yeah, I am looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

Jayden is a Wolf shifter. He has spent years learning to control his strength and speed to be able to play the sport he loves professionally. The benefits of his Wolf may come in handy in most situations but he has to be careful not to expose himself. He gets the chance of a lifetime when he is invited to the Wild Rookie training camp and could even have the opportunity to try out for the team.

Kennedi is an Otter shifter. Sheltered by her father, who also happens to be the couch Phillipe Delaney, she longs to be able to stand on her own two feet. To show him she can look after herself. She is sassy, witty, and independent. An athlete in her own right.

As players, and while their kids were young, their parents were close. Things have changed as the years have passed. The grumpy coach and overprotective father in him, has Delaney warning Jayden and Kennedi to keep things platonic. Not only are they from different shifter species but dating the coach's daughter is something that off limits.

Jayden would normally have no problem respecting Delaney's wishes. The problem? Kennedi just may be his mate. Throughout the book, they constantly push the boundaries and soon become certain that they are true mates. But so many questions still remain. Mainly, just how can a Wolf Shifter and an Otter Shifter be mates?

I absolutely loved the banter between Jayden and Kennedi and how they stayed true to themselves. You got to see how an Wolf pack works from the inside and how it could evolve moving forward. The dynamic between the two is refreshing to see and I look forward to how they evolve throughout the series. This is a sweet romance, with a hint of spice to keep you wanting more. I look forward to reading the next book in the series!

Shifters and ice hockey! This should have been the perfect novel for me, and I was really excited to read it. But it fell flat.
This is one of those telling novels. It doesn’t show you anything, so it’s a very directional narrative. The passage of time is hard to follow, and the chapters aren’t really developed enough and are quite choppy. At some point blood sickness became a thing the characters were worried about, without ever explaining what it was or how it occurred, as if it was assumed knowledge. So many concepts and things got added in part way through (like suddenly Kennedi was training for the Olympics) that just never got explained or had any sort of lead in. So bizarre. I forced myself to finish it, but the telling really got to me. There’s no thoughts or reflections, just a constant commentary on everything physically happening and it just jumps everywhere at whim, leaving it feel like a half-developed plot outline rather than an actual story.

Jayden dreams of playing for the Wild, like his father did, he travels to Minneapolis to play for their mini-camp in hopes to jump start my hockey career. He was arranged for him to stay with his dad’s friend, Delaney. He forbids him from dating his daughter, Kennedi. It is not long before he realizes that she is his mate, even though she is a different kind of shifter.

Kennedi finds Jayden, sweet and carrying but is he her mate, she is sea otter and he is a werewolf, how would that work?

I loved Jayden, he was just a sweetie that his first goal in life was to make Kennedi happy.

Jayden and Kennedi have known one another for a long time. He is staying with her family while at hockey mini-camp. Jayden is a shifter who has worked to control his instincts so he can play professionally. But he cannot control all of his instincts because he realizes while he is there that he is attracted to Kennedi, the coach's daughter that he was warned not to pursue. What are young folks attracted to one another to do? They date on the downlow while trying to determine if they are indeed meant to be together and to avoid her father's potential ire. Good story with a good ending. No spoilers. You will want to read this one.

This is such a fun book. On Thin Ice by Kat Obie is only the second shifter book I’ve read by Kat Obie but I’ve enjoyed them both so much. I know all types of shifters are included but Otters have been in the two I’ve read. They are the cutest little things. And are not in any way inferior to the Werewolves or Vampires. Jayden, a werewolf, is hoping to be picked up by an all-shifter hockey team, the Wild, and is participating in some hockey camps. Kennedi, an otter shifter, is a college student and swimmer and hoping to compete in the Olympics. Their families are involved in hockey and have known each other for years. Jayden and Kennedi are attracted to each other from the very beginning. They go through a little bit of drama with family and friends but this is such an upbeat book, the drama isn’t too intense. I wholeheartedly recommend this book. Such a fun plot and lots of LOL moments. Oh, and On Thin Ice is all about Hockey so Bonus!

Jayden (H) comes to stay with family friends while he plays with the hockey mini-camp where he homes to start to make his hockey dreams come true. A werewolf shifter, Jayden finds himself drawn to Kennedi, a sea otter shifter and the coach's daughter - the daughter that the coach has warned him off of. Kennedi and Jayden begin being one another secretly and as the get to know one another better, they start thinking they might be mates, though neither is sure that cross-shifter matings are possible much less what her father will say about their relationship. Some minor drama in this sweet shifter sports romance.

Kennedi and Jayden . . .

Jayden Smith is excited to be coming back to his hometown as a player for the Wild hockey team mini-camp. He is staying with his dad’s friend and ex-teammate, Philippe Delaney, with one simple rule to obey: no messing with Mr. Delaney’s daughter.

Kennedi Delaney was so happy to see her childhood buddy again. She was not even thinking about finding a mate. But Jayden seemed to have recognized the signs fairly quickly. Would he and Kennedi talk to her dad about the possibility? Would Fate actually bring a sea otter shifter together with a werewolf? Could they be a perfect match for each other?

Kennedi was a shifter and a coach’s daughter! What kind of luck was that. That automatically made her off-limits to all the hockey players. There was only one hockey player that she was interested in though - Jayden.
Jayden was a transplant to be with other shifters. Only his parents knew that he was a shifter back home - not even his brother knew. Jayden was a werewolf though. Kennedi was a sea otter.
Jayden had already been warned away from her by her father, but he felt a pull to her. Once the word “mate” was thrown around, it made him wonder if that’s why he felt so drawn to her.
Jayden an Kenndi had some serious choices to make. Will they give in or keep apart the way everyone tells them to be?

Hockey, swimming, and shifters, I loved it. This is the first book I read by this author. I enjoyed that hockey was a part of the story, not just a mention here or there like a lot of sports romances. The story itself was good, but I found it didn’t flow well for me. Some parts were not as engaging, but that doesn't make it not worth reading. I loved the overall story of mates finding each other, even if their love is forbidden. I enjoyed all of the characters and the support eventually given to Kennedi and Jayden. The ending was so romantic, you have to read it to find out their road to happiness. I recommend you give this sweet friends to lovers story a try. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Kennedi and Jayden were childhood friends. Both of their fathers were involved in hockey. Jayden is trying our for their team and he's staying at Kennedi's family house. They are young, but both feel like they should be mates. She's working on being in the Olympics as a swimmer and going to college. When Jayden makes the NHL team, they are in heaven, but they become separated when he gets transferred. They are both shape shifters, but different animals. They have learned to accommodate their differences.

This couple seems very young, and they are. However this book is not for young adults, there are some explicit sex scenes.

Jayden and Kennedi.. these two characters inside the book were headstrong just because one is a wolf and the other is a sea otter. At first, i was like how could a sea otter and wolf be mates..? just how.. but i remember this is the imagination mind of our author, so it was okay but i did like the story and how it fits with sports and how hot and romantic it can be so i liked reading it!.

This is a well written paranormal shifter/sports romance with strong characters in Jayden and Kennedi. He's a hockey player on the team her father coaches. All players were warned off his daughter. The author does a great job building their story and bringing out all the emotions along the way. She brings drama and steam and delivers a terrific story.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

This is quite an unexpected book. I'm all for the shape shifter books but I was really thrown with the sea otter. I love Kennedi and Jayden they are great match. Kennedi & Jayden have known each other for a while. They start hanging out more and more and fate has deemed them mates. But not everyone is happy about the relationship. This book has many ups & downs but so worth the read. It's such a cute sweet and a little spicy of a book.

Not your typical alpha male shifter book, and i am all for it! Jayden and Kennedi balance each other out while breaking the rules, her dad made her off limits, and adjusting to a new "normal" ( an interesting shifter twist). Kat's characters and their story are wonderfully written. Fall in love with Jayden and Kennedi then go and read Taking a Chance and Taking a Risk ( the Loving the Wild books) to read about their parents.

thin characters and little plot

I’ll be real honest, I didn’t read the synopsis of this ahead of time and for some reason thought it was a mystery. I kept waiting for a plot twist, but never got one. The characters were shallow, lacking emotional depth. There were a lot of background characters that didn’t necessarily need to be there. This says it’s boon one, but seemed to be written with the assumption that you knew something about the world of the book.

Jayden and Kennedi

This was the first book I’ve read by this author. I loved the main characters and the storyline. I felt pulled into this love story. Definitely different with a werewolf shifter and a sea otter shifter but loved how the author wrote their mating. I was captivated by this book.

Hockey and shape shifters

A sweet romantic book. I like that hockey is more than a footnote. I would have liked more description of the swimming competitions. A great book for the Wild family.

different paranormal read

Combination of hockey and shifters romance. Not the first I’ve read but this one seemed more geared to teenagers and lacked any real drama or pack disputes. Was okay but I prefer older characters and a stronger plot/story.

I love reading paranormal books and this one was a good hockey one. Jayden is a shifter who is learning how to control his wolf to become a nhl player for the Wild. Kennedi is a sea otter shifter and is the daughter of one of Jayden’s coaches who he is living with during his time in training. He is warned against dating her but they sneak doing it. They then realize that they are mates. This is a cute fast read.
