Don't you just hate losing something you really need? And isn't it just always at the worst possible time? Maybe you placed your trust in the wrong person? Perhaps you lost the trail you were just on? A pulse? Your grip on reality? Hope?
DOWN by the RIVERWALK is the third collection by Matt Scott and features fourteen tales to entertain and delight. The stories collected within are of Loss, Hopelessness, Fear, Shame, Violence, Greed, Malice...
...We are the monsters with whom we wish to bargain.
Down by the Riverwalk is a fun collection of 14 short stories covering multiple subjects. I was pleasantly surprised by several of the endings as they took a devious twist when I wasn’t suspecting. Here are my favorites from the collection.
Aberration is a tale of an old war veteran who has a run in with an oversized spider with the innate sense to fulfill a need.
Coyote seriously pulled at my heartstrings! This is a story that can easily be a description of what happens to a migrant fleeing their country for a chance at a better life. This story follows a family who has paid a coyote to get them to safety.
Snow Blind is a story of a man who gets trapped in a blizzard, trying to find his way home.
The Lake Girl brings to light the horror of child abduction. This story picks up on the after effect of the abduction and how one resident recalls everything done over the years to find the missing girl.
Lost in the Woods is a harrowing tale of a couple that gets lost on a hiking trail. All seems to be ok until they hear something sinister coming from the ravine.
Down by the Riverwalk is a tale of a man trying to deal with his internal demons.
All of the stories were great, but those mentioned above stuck out for me. Go check out this novella by Matt Scott! I hope you like it as much as I did!
I just finished this great compilation of short stories by Matt Scott. Down by the Riverwalk shows off his ability to quickly draw you into an everyday situation and turn it into a nightmare before you realize what happened! I loved it!!
