The Contact by Saul Herzog is the stunning next instalment in the series that has taken the publishing industry, and Hollywood rights departments, by storm. This dazzling tour de force is a full standalone novel. From the mind of one of the most creative and versatile writers working in America today, this book will surely go down as a classic of the spy thriller genre.
If you read only one book this year, this is it. Action, adventure, rebellion, provocative foreign agents, characters you can sink your teeth into. If you're looking for a new spy thriller series that will stay with you long after you turn the last page, look no further.
Recommended for fans of Lee Child's Jack Reacher, Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp, Robert Ludlum's Jason Bourne, and Brad Thor's Scot Harvath.
I mean, it wasnt bad. But it wasn't much of anything. A lot of treachery and violence and sweet revenge but not much else. Could've used more meat to the story.
The series started off strong, but not so much anymore.
This book and the last book should have been one book. Nothing was achieved by separating the two, because this book was not written as a stand alone and trying to read it without reading the others would have left the reader lost.
I’m going to give this series one more chance, and if it doesn’t markedly improve, I will move on.
Excellent book in the series. I couldn't put it down. The plot however is pretty much taken from real life life and based on the war in Ukraine, with a few modifications. My only downside is that these books are supposed to be about Lance and he was barely in the book at all! Regardless of that it was still a great book. This one needs to be read in sequence with book 6 the fixer as they are intrinsically linked in the plot sequence. Overall great but please make it more about Lance, he didn't even kill many/anyone!
Too much sadism in this one. Though the plot is torn from the headlines and Herzog makes his sausage claiming political and military verisimilitude, this series has lost its appeal for me. I read previous books via Kindle Unlimited in a rush because that's all the time they deserve but with this one I'm saying my goodbyes. I came to it after reading Reacher, but the assassinations and bloodshed triumph over anything resembling character development.
This Lance Spectre book was great. I love all the action in this story. There is a lot of heart too; the political integre leaves you with questions. Is war worth it? Does sacrificing people to the war machine make a difference? There are people who risk their lives to do the right thing and either die or are not acknowledged. Saul Herzog manages to put a lot of drama and emotion into his books; they are definitely worth reading.
Not very much Lance Spector. A lot of politik. I've enjoyed the series, and this one has a healthy dose of action and intrigue. The parallels with current world affairs have become distracting. Although I don't necessarily disagree with the commentary on the balance of world nuclear powers, I'd rather struggle with such complicated issues through primary sources.
Another hell raising book in this saga created by my Mr. Herzog. lance Spector is a secret agent willing to do anything to accomplish his mission. James Bond films, move over once these stories are put into a movie, the next generation of secret agent movies will begin.
I’m not saying it’s bad, just similar. Of course there is a consistent theme and each book is over about a 3 to 7 day period. Fast, thrilling and the wrong people die except the 7 or 8 main players. Some true modern history lessons on the relationship between politicians in the USA, Russia and the EU.
Was this supposed to be a Lance Spector book? He is hardly in the book at all. Not to mention the lack of action. I don't know how this book can be called a thriller. And if that isn't enough, the storyline and characters are absurd. I loved books one through five but I am very disappointed in this one
The story continues. From the Kremlin to Kyiv and all over Russia, double cross triple cross and revenge all around. Agents hunting agents and leaders as hunters and the hunted. Don't miss this next chapter of espionage and power changes. Lance ANF company are in the mix and that makes it ALL, unpredictable!
Saul Hertzog is at the top of his game, without doubt. His writing is neat, wastes not time, and comes to the point 'fast and neat'. This book is for those that truly love a soy intrigue, with up-to-date, current information about Russian attitudes; with which I happen to wholly agree. I have an interest partly as I am half Russian; but that does not get in the way of my beliefs, it merely peaks my interests. Brought up English as was my whole family, my father was naturalized in 1928.
Latest book in the series and up to the usual high standard. Story line builds up from the beginning eventually ending after many twists and turns that keep you guessing to the end. Well worth the read and highly recommended by myself
This was an amazing read, if only it could really happen and shake up Russia. Has Putin really been the President for 20 years? It ended the way it should have. Orsip is the same word as evil, too bad he didn’t burn. I’m waiting patiently for book 8.. and more of Lance since he took a back seat this time..
Takes a couple of chapters to pick up the threads from the last book. Lance doesn't feature too much in this one, follows the Russians more. Plenty of action, mixes in events from today
While this series doesn't have the details of, say, a Tom Clancy or Gray Man story, it has the almost undefined factor that keeps you locked on until the last page.
I am an avid fan of the Lance Spector series and really appreciate how the author stays true to his characters ( or at least the way I envision them). If you like a great story, I would recommend this series without reservation.
That’s all 7 read in the last couple of weeks. Pre ordered the 8th. Following world event stories with the authors characters intwined within the story. How does it all end - Armageddon or the world is saved?
Too many holes in the continuity and people seemed to disappear from the story after being introduced. Disjointed plot line. Frankly not the author’s best effort. I liked the previous books but this one was a real letdown.
I have now read all the available books in this series. I like the characters, its fast paced and well written and I like a story that continues through a long series with recurring characters.
I look forward to book 8. All 7 books have kept me totally captivated with thrills, mystery, and action. Great job with keeping the books with new challenges and interest
The expanding story just continues to get better. Brought in this book to a point in history that is totally relatable As good if not better as any and a very enjoyable read
Great story by Herzog and I am ready to read number 8. Very educational as to how the Russians want to be all joined and become USSR but this cannot happen in today’s world as they will take over Western Europe.
When committed good people give up the cause, I know the world has turned for the worst. When people let power and self-perceived wisdom rule their decisions, the world suffers. What a mess. I await the next installment in this series.
After the first few books in this series the characters and plots became a bit recycled. But worse, was the manipulation of the reader by the lack of a discernible ending. They are like episodes, each one leads into the next without subtlety or any sense of satisfaction.
He writes good action - I guess. Inconsistencies in the story are glaring though. Kiara’s character in this installment made even less sense than Levi’s and that says something. Dumb story but ok if you don’t want to think about it.
