Dean

Rate this book
Dean Fairchild wants more from life but he doesn’t see it happening in the sleepy town of Winston, New Mexico. When his desires get bigger than his town, and the teachings of his father the local preacher, he runs away from home to find his destiny.

Joining up with Nester Strong and his gang, Dean learns the subtle arts of robbery and racketeering. Till it gets too much. There are lines that Dean will not cross. When he witnesses a crime too heinous for his moral sensibilities, he loots as much as he can and runs back to a home he once knew.

But Winston has changed. Plagued with petty criminals and a blight, he arrives to find no law or authority, and the disappointment of his father. Wishing to turn a new leaf, Dean takes up the mantle of sheriff.

But joining a gang is easy and leaving it is not. The Nestor gang is not prepared to give Dean and his town the peace he wants.

The outlaws raid the town and Dean must step up and finally be the man his father wanted him to be.

Each novel in the Classic Western Justice series is a standalone story that can be read out of order.

There was nothing in Dean’s life that made him think he could be anything but an outlaw. His father was a preacher and came down on Dean hardest of all. When he fell in with the Strong gang, his partners were even more worthless than him. They had a rule that women and children were not to be harmed. When a jewel heist goes wrong and a woman was murdered, the Rangers got after them. Dean had been wanting to break from the gang for a long time and this gave him the opportunity. He grabs the loot and heads home after 12 years. He finds a town cowering under the thumb of the marshal the next town over. Sheriffs don’t last long. Not until Dean took the job, anyway. Trying to save a town while being pursued by rangers and an outlaw gang, who want their loot back looks like an impossible task

Excellent story

A excellent story of a boy who was mistreated and ran away. He became an outlaw and did all kinds of bad things. Finally he had enough and decided to go home and change his life by making amends.

Too much religion, not enough story

Way too much religion and sermonizing in this book. Would have been much better if it had stuck to the storyline and not tried so hard to preach.

Best story

Well written and carried ones interest to the end. I'm sure the people of that town forgave Dean and welcomed him home.

Bizarre

Story line is really unbelievable. Characters not well developed. Not much depth to this one. Some of his other books much better.
