Who knew letting my walls down would change my life?
Titus Compton works for the Witches’ Council. He has nothing in his life but work with the occasional town witch meeting in Cadenbury thrown in.
However, Titus has a secret. He’s in love with Kean Stone, the sinfully handsome, fun-loving wolf shifter.
What would Kean want with a pompous, workaholic witch?
A phone call from his mother telling him his father is sick leads Titus back home, but no way are his new friends letting him go alone.
With secrets revealed and dark witches causing trouble, Kean is happy to lend his support to Titus and be his safe harbour. But it will take all his family and friends to stop disaster from striking, and along the way, they might just score perfect tens.
I grabbed this book because of the whole "Titus is secretly in love with Kean" because I love the whole pining one/oblivious one" thing.
Except they hook up in the very first chapter. All the pining and tension and conflict promised by the book summary is gone and over with two pages into the book. Massively disappointing. Feels like I was lied to, honestly.
Where There’s a Witch There’s a Way dives right into a instant mate situation, albeit between two people who’ve known each other for a while.
One is Titus Compton, of the town’s Witches Council. The other is one of the many werewolf Stone brothers, Kean Stone, brother to the Alpha/Mayor Adhan.
There’s little background, Broom assumes you’ve read the first book in the series, The Crazy Bookshop, where everyone and everything was established.
You really do require that history there because all the drama and mystery coming into play here stems from the events there. You’re going to be pretty much lost without it.
All the characters, the warm-hearted relationships are back! The mystery, the villain and yes, the sex are all on the soft, PG-13 side. The group works together to learn magic, become a found family, and confront what looks to be a deepening series arc piece of villainy.
It’s fun, mostly light hearted, and not really scary.
I did have several issues here. At the end , when the group goes off to discover what and where all the dark magic is coming from, they split up. The reader gets one group’s side of the action. The other more fabulous tale? With waaay more interesting things that occurred? It’s as told to.
I was absolutely dumbfounded. If I’d had the author there, this is how it would have gone.
Me: so there’s was zombies, an apocalypse, flames, ghouls, everything underground. Magical fighting galore?
Author: yup
Me: you gave us two , maybe 3 sentences.
Author: yup
Me: *blink blink*
Walks to door, door closes.
Author: you’re coming back, right?
Hmmmm.
So utterly disappointing. Really?
It also introduces a couple of new characters but we get nothing?
So either that going to be a whole new book to describe those happenings or we in the dark but either way, it’s a majorly flawed component here.
And it reduces the impact of that whole event. As does the way the author leaves many of the new and secondary characters.
So for me, Where There’s a Witch There’s a Way keeps adding new characters and new bits to the overall arc but I’m not sure it’s made the series any better. It’s lost some of the original charm, some of the whimsy and goofiness that I enjoyed so.
I’m sure I’ll be continuing on if only to see if it can recapture some of the joy that brought me into it.
If you’re a fan of this author, or of light fantasy, I’ll leave that decision up to you as well.
Cadenbury Town series: 🔹The Crazy Bookshop 1 🔹Where There’s a Witch There’s a Way 2
This is a modern paranormal one POV romance, the second book in a series that should be read in order. There wasn’t a lot of lead up to Titus and Kean getting together with them being faded mates but I have a feeling that with as busy as Titus kept himself, Kean was a little desperate to get his attention! I appreciate that the author relaxed a little bit on showing the MCs snogging and connecting while still doing the fade to black of their dirty, dirty deeds. There was a lot of story going on in this book and I was absolutely enthralled and could not look away from this book! The mystery, magic and mayhem was fantastic! I’m hooked even without the naughty details!
This book was utterly amazing I just want to scream something unintelligible at the walls in excitement. Top to bottom I just can't get over how much I enjoy every freaking moment with these characters. Titus... Oh dear, sweet Titus has had a huge turn around from when we met him in the first book. Seeing him blossom into a fun loving, funny guy full of love was just beautiful and hearing his back story was heartbreaking. Getting to know kean was a blast too, and I just love the whole stone family.
Aside from insanely loveable characters, the plot was interesting and keeps you on edge from page one. I CANNOT wait til the next book in this series. I just know it'll be a doozy! Amazing book from an amazing author . Can't reccomend enough! 43 stars!
is it just me or the relationship between the main characters started out real~~~ fast? i mean one hero just showed up at the other hero's house with pizza and tight jeans, and they started making out after that? like..... huh??? did i miss something in between or something? i totally can't remember these two characters from the first book and the author just went straight to the point at the start of the second book. shouldn't there be some kind of development or backstory on how the characters met or how they know each other, things like that?
i would have liked the book better if this part of their relationship is executed better and showed more connection, because it does feels a little superficial to me somehow.
The action in Cadenbury Town is heating up as a second Stone wolf finds his mate. Titus works for the Witch's Council and has no life. That all changes when Kean Stone scents him as his mate. Called home to help his dying dad, Titus finds a curse that leads the Cadenbury witches and wolves back to Little Welling. Very exciting stuff. Quick paced. Filled with humor. E. Broom is a very enjoyable author. And I find the differences in British English as compared to North American English, quite fascinating.
I received an ARC of this book and it is just as good if not better then The Crazy Bookshop. This book focuses on Titus and Kean, but all the characters from the first book play a part. If book 2 is this good, I can't wait to see how book 3 turns out.
My reviews are my own. If you liked this book, I’m glad you enjoyed it. If not, I respect your opinion. This is merely my opinion, so let's keep it courteous.
Insta-Love Same issue as the first book, insta-love with no relationship development. Instead of letting us fall in love with the characters together, the author just tells us they love each other overnight. Especially if you take into account that they didn't even flirt with each other in the first book.
Food Fixation and Other Useless Info Dump Same as the first book, I believe this author has some food fixation issues; the topic brings nothing to the table since neither of them is a chef or baker, or cook, but we keep reading about food. Several other topics have no value to the main story, but we get info dumps about them.
Characters I like the characters as separate people, but not the chemistry of the couples so far.
Scorecards Squrting This author is definitely a one-trick pony. Again with the same?
Family I really don't get why people will stay in contact with family if they are total assholes with them. Maybe is a me thing, but if someone is going to put me down and constantly diminish me, I don't choose to spend time with them, ever again, family or not.
I finished the book not knowing what its true plot was. Major editing issues, if there was any editing at all. The timeline is also ridiculous, just like the first book. The story moves at a lightning pace, so it makes you feel like you are on a drop from a rollercoaster. And don't even get me started on the resolution to the "plot"? Copy-paste from the first book, nothing new.
Titus & Kean were a bit cheesy ("honey" and "handsome" every time they saw each other).
This is a very "ckean" romance, where our lead characters have sex that is only alluded to, stopping after a few deep kisses. No more details beyond being too the clothes were off!
The mystery over the intentions and harmful effects of dark magic from Titus' family, in particular his middle younger brother Septamus, kept the spells and magic sizzling and the good witches of Cadenbury determined to root out the evil and banish it all. Of course, we are left with a bit of a cliffhanger and some lingering mystery and intrigue from Sal Edenwood, who turns out to be a descendent of one of the dark witches line. That his magic seems a lot like Ernest and Tempest's, who are true witches, keeps the interest high. Four stars. Great story, with cheesy details.
But from a different perspective. This was an unexpected twist. But once I got settled into the story it was a nice change. Lucky for me that I always page back in my e-readers since there was a bit of storyline before the first chapter. Nothing that the content in the first chapter did not reiterate but it helped me recognize the POV change from the first book. There are quite a few typos in this book, normally I would have marked and submitted them. However, I was having device issues and ended up using multiple devices while reading this.
But I was expecting Temp and Ben's story to come first. This is Titus and Kean's story. While they are good characters and I like them they were a bit boring to me. Maybe just a lack of interest but also just waiting for something to actually happen. I myself love research but it really wasn't leading anywhere and got tedious and repetitive. Again there are great characters in this series and would love to see some of these pairings.
I will say this is much better than the first book, but there is something about it that still reads weird to me. The story moves at a lightening pace. This is little if any description of people or places. The interactions of the characters seems more like how a young person would think adult interact. The climax is hardly a beat and so manything just fall into place for no reason and without any work.
2.5 stars - I didn't like that the book started with them getting together but already being deeply in love. I felt cheated out of getting to know them and experiencing them falling in love. The writing was very basic and rather telling than showing. The plot itself was interesting but executed rather lackluster. All in all not a bad read, but also rather simple and boring. I honestly can't decide between two and three stars.
I loved getting to know the new Titus, after seeing his (albeit abrupt) personality shift in the first book. I had all the same issues with this book as The Crazy Bookshop (i.e., grammar and typo issues, the repetitive style becoming grating at times, the insta-love between the MCs, and the author skipping over or cutting away from the spicy times), but once again I enjoyed the plot and learning more about Cadenbury and it's crazy residents.
I don’t think this was a YA series book but the way it reads makes me feel like it is definitely geared more towards the below 14 crowd. The story is really good - it just goes at a very, very slow pace and there are lots of things that I wish were fleshed out more and some stuff just needed to be skipped entirely.
This installment is every bit as sweet and enjoyable as book 1. Decent character development, some new cast and a truly nefarious plot which is quickly and handily subverted. Like the first book, there are lots of unfortunate grammatical errors, incorrect punctuation and missing words which serve only to negatively impact the rating.
3.5 stars rounded up to 4 I really enjoyed this book. The growth that Titus shows along with the love between him and Kean is lovely. Kean is protective and is super adorable. The side characters are a huge part of this book as well and they are written to be very interesting. The overarching continuing story is also able to keep me entertained.
cute little story in the Cadenbury Town series. these books are simple but fun. This one follows hardworking Titus and his mate Kean. The whole family dynamic with Titus is totally screwed up and i enjoyed seeing Titus overcome his past and come into his own. Loved the found family aspect as well.
This again is a really an excellent book and was a great addition to this series.the characters are all strong and excellent fighters and witches and wolves. I wonder when the next one will be out?
Like my last review, I think the story telling is excellent, and whilst I struggled with the writing style in the first book, I must have got used to it now. I cannot wait for the next book.
Insta love with Titus and Kean. This book like the previous book focuses on family and friends and what makes a family. It also touches on child abuse do if that's your trigger beware before reading .
This was a wonderful book! Great read and loved the characters! So happy with this second book. Really can't wait for the next books. I feel there is lots of stories that could be in this series. Great!
I enjoyed the second book in the series almost as much as the first one. I liked that the quirky characters are still in the limelight of the book, and that new ones are being added. Fun story, fast moving with thing heating up for the witches. Recommend reading.
I enjoy the author's writing style as well as the storyline, twists and turns. I liked seeing the MCs deepen their connection. I only wish there were steamy scenes included instead of the fade to black; however, the lack of hot moments didn't take away from me enjoying this story.
You could never have too much of a good thing and this book series is totally good. It has everything a good read should have , wit, thrills, romance, suspense, danger it got bit all and I highly recommend.
Some thing keeps hitting this town with hate and darkness, since these two have finally opened their eyes to smoldering looks at each other, the pack tried to find one causing the dark curses
