Defending America #2

Roswell's Secret

Rate this book
National Security Comes At a Price

Dean Dreiser learned that lesson long ago. Now, domestic terrorists are testing a biological weapon in southern New Mexico, and Dean is assigned a new partner—Dr. Lucinda Brown. Lucy is the leading expert in molecular biology, but she has no field experience.

The terrorists are willing to kill thousands in order to trigger the fall of the two-party system and usher in a new political dawn. Lucy tracks the genetic print of the weapon while Dean hunts the insurgents. Separately, they don’t stand a chance against the terrible secret that dominates the night skies of Roswell, New Mexico. Together, they can do more than survive. They can combat and conquer this frightening threat.

This fast-paced romantic thriller combines a twisting plot, believable characters, and fascinating details about military ops, bio-agents, terrorists, and forensics—all set against the backdrop of the dusty desert land of the Southwest. Be prepared for a read that will keep you up well into the night and an ending that will leave you questioning the true nature of Roswell’s Secret.

An interesting viewpoint on what could happen with bio-warfare

This was another novel that had a host of viewpoints from a cast of characters that made me think. Roswell, NM becomes the focus of bioterrorism , gov. agents, and the people who frantically rush to stop evil from killing millions of innocent people. You will have to follow the story closely and use your imagination to picture the actions of "good vs evil."

This book is all too real, my heart was in my throat as I read, and then you have to figure out who you can trust, almost no one, and those who you should be able to don’t.
The Author brings us a story that is so real you will think you are listening to the daily news, and we again wonder why people do the things that they do. We do get a reprieve, a small one in the form of a sweet romance between Dean, we met in the first book, and Dr. Lucy, but we soon realize probably no one is going to survive.
I found myself wanting to cheat and look at the end of the book, it is that full of reality, but I resisted the urge and keep on page-turning, but oh so tempting.
Let’s hope that what is written here never happens, and the people we depend on will stay committed to our freedoms and our way of life.
Thank you, Vannetta Chapman, for a reality read, and let’s hope it is not based on any fact.

I received this book from the Author, and was not required to give a positive review.

This is the second book in the series. Coyote's Revenge introduces you to some of the characters. Undercover agents, biochemical warfare on American soil, terrorists or American grown? The plot could be in the headlines of today's news. Twists and turns, action, some wonderful & quirky characters. Romance and death. Not your typical Vannetta Chapman book but well worth the read.

No one asked me to read nor review either Coyote's Revenge nor Roswell's Secret. I bought these books and had a hard time putting them down. (No choice-had to get ready for Christmas at my house) Both books are a little edgy or gritty but they are still clean, wholesome Christian suspense. Highly recommend both of these books. They can be read as stand alones but I recommend both of them. I love Vannetta's Amish books but her Christian Romantic Suspense is tops.

Vannetta did another amazing job with her characters. I found myself cringing at some of the imagery and laughing at things the main characters said and did. This book makes you think about all the things civilians are unaware of. Yikes! Great story!!

After I liked the first one so much, this was a pretty big disappointment. The ending was rushed and unbelievable and I wouldn't consider this a clean read with the graphic descriptions of bio chemical warfare.

This is a mesmerizing read! It is a chilling scenario of a possible biochemical attack on our country. The only hope is the success of a few and knowing who is on which side.

This second book is more intense than the first book. I loved the suspense and the author really kept me guessing who the “bad guys” were and what was going to happen. There’s plenty of romance for fans of romance. I prefer little to none, but the suspense was intense and I like that!

If you are a fan of lots of romance with your suspense novels, then this is for you!

This is a clean novel, lots of romance (hugs, kisses) but no sex. No bad language.

This story was really good. To much lusty romance for parts of it. They meet and 24 hours later they are making out and people are dying and the world ending and they keep making out.

The story of bio terrorist on American soil was really good.

Saving Lives and Love

Dean and Lucy are given an assignment that morphs into an unimaginable scenario. Dean resents getting a new partner, but later understand exactly why Lucy was chosen. This story has so much mystery and suspense. Not knowing who the good guys are and who the bad guys are keeps their mission dangerous. This was a great plot, an interesting array of characters, and a situation that is unbelievably horrific. It will appeal to all who love a good story with danger and mystery. It's fast paced and surprising. I highly recommend it.

Roswell’s Secret is the second book in Vannetta Chapman’s “Defending America” series. Just like the first book in this series, the storyline could have come from today’s news headlines. The characters are well defined and likeable; deeply patriotic and heroic. The plot is detailed, suspenseful; grabs your attention and never lets go. I found myself so drawn unto the story that I felt as if it could actually be happening as I was reading. There is even a sweet love story that winds its way through the plot.

This is a clean book with no bad language or embarrassing bedroom scenes. The main characters have good morals. Although I would not classify this as “Christian fiction”, it is an appropriate book for those who like to read that genre. Vannetta Chapman is master at writing mystery and suspense, and her readers will not be disappointed in any way by this book.

Just when you think there is no way an author can possibly write a better book, along comes Roswell's Secret. Vannetta Chapman has done it again. This book grips you from the start and never lets go.

Book 2 in the Defending America series is amazing. You will want to put all things aside and get right into this book.

Who do you trust! Whose the bad guy or your friend? Making those determinations in this book is hard and you will just be compelled to keep reading till you find out.

The plot is something so possibly realistic and is totally plausible. Suffice it to say, you will not want to pass up this book.

A good looking government agent falls for his partner who is doctor and the love he always wanted.

Loved being back with this author again. Been waiting for this one to go on sale. I read Aiden story first and loved it. Dean and Lucy story was exciting from the start to the finish. Both were not looking for love at the start. But as the worked together the love bug hit along with something deadly. Which was out to kill them and those they wanted to protect. Loved that Aiden and Madison were in the story too. I hope another book comes in this series. Because I want to see how Aiden, Madison, Dean and Lucy are all doing. I loved the series.

I simply don't understand how the mind of someone who writes Amish cozy stories can come up with the likes of her Defending America series as well! It's a mystery...
The only reason for the 4 star rating rather than a 5 star is simply that I felt the romance began too quickly between the two central characters. Other than that, this was a striking and scary story, and I pray that it is only fiction.

This book had me on the edge of my seat. National security is on high alert while Dean and Lucy try to get the guilty gathered up before more tragedy happens. UFO s are seen in the area of Roswell. People unknowingly are out for thrill seeking not realizing the dangers they face. This would make an exciting but scary movie.

Having lived in New Mexico, the sun, and vast unoccupied land, and the mention of being known for UPO’s. This seemed like the perfect setting for a biotech murder. Close knit plot, clues are tucked in for us to find. It could well have happened in today’s time, a little touch of romance, very well written. Both in this series have been very good and highly recommend them

Suspense, a good clean romance, and an intriguing subject all make for a great read. The story includes terrorists, bio-agents, forensics, and two main characters that seem to have nothing in common. It all works together to make fast paced read with a few twists. I read them out of order, but don’t think it will matter much. I can’t wait to read the first one!
