*3.5* I was meandering around recommended reads on my kindle, ignoring my toppling tbr. I was in the mood for something short and sweet, but I found ten grumpy inches instead.
“Hold very still, or I will cut you.” I grin. Her eyes widen in a way that tells me she’s looking at my fangs. “On second thoughts, struggle all you like.”
That's what came to mind while reading this novella. Except this book is filthy, kinky (check the TW), and kind of stupidly fabulous.
“I don’t fit in a lot of places,” he says, eyes turning hooded. “But that hasn’t stopped me yet.”
A kinky, MF, alien warrior/human woman novella, ends just as the story starts to take off. I have so many questions.

Ugh... just as I got a taste, it ended...
This is not only a new-to-me author, but a unique book that I enjoyed, but, of course, wished it was longer.
Avery is a writer, a good writer, and then, all of a sudden, the H MC from her book comes to life. Haden is a hot alien warrior, and although they’ve seen each other before, he’s not been able to touch her... and then he suddenly can... and the tension was sizzling 🥵. He’s angry at her for the direction the book he was written in has taken and what he’s endured as a warrior, and he punishes her for it... in the most delicious way 🔥. It starts off noncon, but he redeems himself by the end of this short novella.
I throughly enjoyed this book. I wish it was longer- there’s so much potential with this world, and although short, the author did a good job world building. There were many details I wish were ironed out, but in the amount of pages it was delivered, it was decent.
Overall, I liked the uniqueness.

This was unusual and I liked it! Avery Sinclair is a writer and the character in her books is a hot Alien with a build of a warrior, which he is with the mind that she wrote for him, until the day he found he could actually touch her and she could feel him! The author wrote Haden, the Alien as a hardened warrior and the tortured life she wrote for him has come back to exact revenge. A bit of difference in this book, well novella really, is that she's not spanked, her punishments are all sexual and totally noncon at the start. That's the trigger mentioned in her blurb, but I didn't mind it for long, he does redeem himself eventually. I hope to see stories like this one where the author is involved with the H of the stories she's written, it was hot and in her mind not everything she wrote turned out exactly as she thought it would. I say give me more!

Haden and Avery…o my! This was short and SMUTTY. The world and the plot was fresh. The characters were developed well. I really wish it had been a full length novel because it had so much potential to be even more awesome.

Speculative fiction at its steamy best!
I love speculative fiction for exactly what this story delivers: a mind-bending, a twisting of reality until the reader glimpses something else, something beyond the ordinary. This story gives the reader that twist in spades.
The creator comes face to face with her creation, who is not all that happy about what she has created. If Frankenstein’s monster confronted Mary Shelley, what would he say to her? This story answers that question in a delightfully raunchy and unexpected way.
Highly recommended.

This was such an interesting read. Diving into reality vs imagination, time travel and the concept of who is actually responsible for the decisions we all make.
It’s short, dirty and I loved it. It’s a great read that manages to be both filthy and thought provoking.

The storyline is an unusual concept and I really didn’t enjoy it that much. That said, it was steamy and hot but following the storyline was confusing. It was very short, a novella. And it ended abruptly. Will I read the next two in this series? Probaly not 🤷🏻♀️

This is the first in Ms. Lane's erotic/meta/sci-fi series about the collision between fact and fiction; reality and unreality; human and non-human; woman and man. The fact/reality/human/woman is writer Avery; the fiction/unreality/non-human/man is the character she's created. One day, the two actually meet and, well... Trigger Warnings for Dub-Con and Knife Play, but Haden never actually harms her.
I read the second book first (if this features the "author," then that one concentrates on the "reader") and liked it better; thus, I have mixed feelings about this. The two entries have very different tones: this one is darker, with less humor and action (though it is better edited). I think that if you like well-described sex scenes and enjoy self-reflexivity (which I do), you'll probably like this. Certainly, it's imaginative.
That said, it starts in medias res and never catches up. Avery and Haden have an entire history that we don't see (she's on her third book about him); thus, it was difficult for this reader to feel their connection. In addition, unlike the H in the second book, Haden never does anything to elicit Avery's emotions that isn't sexual. Even in a novella, I need a little more depth in my relationships.
Finally, I was disappointed that Avery and it's at best ironic and at worst odd that an author, of all people, would present this as a positive.
3 1/2 stars. I might have rated this more highly, but the ending is very abrupt. I will say that this is the only book I've ever read in this genre that uses psychological metaphors for the unconscious, which I admire. I do recommend this one and the next; I will read the third, which isn't out yet.

This is such a clever story. I loved it. Alien romance where the FMC is an author who writes the MMC into existence, only the existence she’s been writing for him has been bleak at best. She visits him in her dreams and he is finally able to break through and punish her for the reality she gave him; and maybe write a new one in the process.

How original!
I found this book to be highly entertaining! How thought provoking! Do we as authors fall in love with our characters? Sometimes. I think this is where series come from. We, like our readers, don't want to let them go. But would I want to write myself into their story and world? For me, I think not. That is for my readers to fantasize about. You see I love both my male and female characters. Their pairing to me is what makes them perfect. For me to have one of my male leads I would have to get rid of one of my girls. No, I love my girls! Can't do it.
But, this is an interesting concept. Authoring the perfect man for myself; hitting all of my fantasies? Hmmmm. This was well-written, short, detailed, smexy, and original. Highly recommend.

An interesting concept, kinda unique kinda intriguing..
The novella is about a writer who has been writing some cruel things about the main character in her book until all of a sudden said main character is standing at her doorsteps demanding to write the next part of his life by himself. And he also added her into the story and while he was at it he added some payback to the plot.
It was good writing but the funniest part is how when she was the writer she wrote about wars and politics about soldiers and loss about emotions and smart moves in the story.
But when he got in the writing chair the book was all blow-jobs ass-fucking and whatnots lmao oh yeah and the real torture for her was actually saying out the lines written by a male author🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wish it were a longer book though with a bit more detail to how the wormholes and intergalactic travel stuff worked. But yeah I liked in nonetheless.

Punished is a sci fi fantasy short story that is different from the authors typical books. She has done a great job with a novel idea that still includes many of her usual elements like a hot alpha with an interesting heroine and lots of sexual tension. But this is a completely different world from her omegaverse books, and I enjoyed how she spun this tale to pull us in to it. I love a sexy alien with his own ideas of how to master his woman, especially when she is from a world completely different than his. Ms Lane keeps growing as an author and her books keep getting better and better. I wish that this had been a longer story and we could have enjoyed more of these characters. This is a fun hot read that I would recommend to anyone who likes sci fi or fantasy.

L.V. Lane certainly jumped out of her typical Omegaverse stories to write a sci-fi and I gotta be honest, I love it! Stop what you’re doing right now and read this story if you love alpha aliens and naughty behavior.
Can’t wait to see what comes next and I hope this isn’t the end of her space jump into sci-fi! Cause I am here for all of it. 🙌🏻 100% recommend!

Be still my heart...
Whoa, another great novella by L.V. Lane. This book is about something so many of us wish for, an escape from reality with our book boyfriends 😉 It was so sweet and tender yet there was a savagery that wove it’s way through the story. Highly recommend!!

I loved the unique concept behind this story – an author meets one of her characters in her dreams, and he wants revenge for how she’s been messing around in his life all these years. But then dreams somehow join with reality, and she is no longer in control.
L.V. Lane teased us hard with this book. It is altogether too short, and I would have preferred a longer story with more interaction between Avery and Haden. And more alien s3x. These two had some great chemistry.
Bottom line: This is a very quick and hot alien romance read, and it perfectly sets up the following books.

This is a quick read but it pulled me in from the start. I wouldn't mind seeing more in this world. I usually love this authors omegaverse the best, but this one leans toward that side of the spectrum for being a favorite. This author is so great at putting her characters thru things but making it worth the struggle in the end. She totally managed to do that in even this short of a story.

Punished is a sci-fi romance short story by L.V. Lane. I really loved the unique premise of the story. This isn't what we're used to from this author and I really enjoyed the idea. Of course it also had my favorite signature elements that Ms. Lane is sure to bring to her books. I loved that hot alpha hero and the complex heroine. The steam was quite plentiful for such a short read and very well executed. I'm probably being greedy, but I felt like this needed to be longer and not just because I really enjoyed it and wanted to read more. L.V. Lane created such an interesting world with a unique plot that I believe deserves a lot more world building and character development. Definitely pick this up if you're looking for a quick and enjoyable steamy sci-fi romance with a unique twist.

This is book one in the Mate for the Alien Master series by Lv Lane. There are currently four published books in this series.
Please read the triggers before picking up this book. It’s not a super dark story but it does have a darker theme. There is 🔪 play, anal play, dubcon, noncon, breath play, power exchange, punishments, etc. There is also a mention of cheating (not between the main characters) and divorce.
This story follows Avery and Haden. Avery is a recently divorced writer from New England. She has been trying to write a new book but always seems to come back to one character in particular. Haden is angry. He believes Avery to be a creator, a god. He blames her for his life and everything that’s went wrong, after all…she did create his character.
This book sucked me in from the beginning. The writing was beautiful and the story was unique and fun. This is a slightly darker book so that’s something to keep in mind. It was a short quick read that took me a little under an hour to finish. I honestly think it would make a wonderful full length novel. If you are looking for a well written, short, spicy alien novella then definitely give this book a try.

What an amazing read! This isn't your typical sci-fi steamy romance, and the trigger warnings should be observed because this one is wild, but if you don't have an issue with non-con or knife play then this is a must read. Avery is an author and Haden is one of her characters. She didn't write him an easy life, and he's got some anger issues to work out. He's going to make her pay for all the pain he has suffered. That's where the heat starts and only gets steamier. Seriously, this is a novella that is packed full of a lot of delicious steam. I love that I was able to read it in an afternoon, and while it didn't take long to read it it didn't really feel like a short to me. It was intense and exciting, and I wouldn't have been able to put it down.
